Chapter 10
"I am starving, today has been nothing but a roller coaster ride," Lura takes a big bit of her main dish, " because my dad was home today, like hello there, it's nice to know you are alive, moving on, my car broke down and guess who played superman?"
she takes a breath.
I raise an eyebrow, " like me guess your dad."
she coughs, " ummm...no he just takes more space than he helps, anyway, it was Luke. he drove me to school."
I fork my food, " you don't say," while chewing my food, Lura bumps my shoulder with her's and squeals.
"Do you like him?" I put my fork down and fold my hands in front of my face. She stops eating but doesn't put her fork down and looks at me, " Would it be a crime if I did?" Before I could say anything, Blake comes over attracting everyone else to come to sit at the table.
"Nice, going man, you deserve it," Blake congratulates Taylor as he takes a seat with the rest of us.
"Just heard the news, gotta say not surprised you got it," Luke side hugs him while taking his seat.
"Have you heard anything about the girl's captain?" Luke asks and looks at me.
"Heard nun" I look away and answer.
"probably Kyra got it," Lura answers Luke.
"Well, it obviously not the insecure turd" Taylor mumbles, and his group snores. I side glance Blake and he doesn't laugh, just looking down at his plate.
"Now that it's official, Cap. we are totally on for tonight then," Zack takes a bite of his apple.
"I never go back on my word, " Taylor smirks.

Everyone, on the basketball team, decided to have another party. But for me, I wasn't invited. My sister is hanging out at a friend's house. So, I decided I needed a break.
Downtown GRendale. It's a Friday evening and I want to relax. I make my way to the coffee house. While everyone else will spending their afternoon at Taylor's, I decided to enjoy myself.
"Wow, Wow. What do we have here?" I hear a voice call out from the crowd.
I keep walking and clutch my bag.
"Hey, I'm talking to you, baby girl."
I take a deep breath and avoid looking toward the group.
Someone grabs my wrist," Come on, we just want to play."
Shakily I respond, "Let me go."
"Don't be like that. We're nice guys."
I search around for someone to help me. But it's evening already and the sun is setting.
"Let go" I huff with all my strength.
They find my fear amuse; they continue to tease me.
Scream. I have to call for help. I take a deep breath and shut my eyes, ready to open my mouth.
"She said to let her go." I open my eyes. I find my wrist is no longer captive. With help from the post lamp, I see familiar blond highlights. "Let's go" My arm is yanked away from the group.

I love the smell of dark freshly made coffee. I look out the window and breath. I breathe the enchanting smell of the coffee house and close my eyes for a while. I try not to think of what happened earlier. I manage to make my hands stop shaking.
"Hey, are you waiting for someone?" I hear a voice say.
I open my eyes, "Um..."
"Yes, she is. You need something?" The familiar blond highlights respond.
The guy stumbles on his words and leaves. A cup of dark coffee is placed in front of me. And The blond highlights takes a seat. The smell is relaxing. "Thanks."
After a nice silent moment, Luke breaks the silence. "Next time, you don't just stand there. Next time, you have to run from people like that. You got that."
My throat feels dry. "It's not like I-. Never mind."
"Look, I never said it was your fault. Just. Next time, call for help." He takes a sip of his coffee. "And I'm sorry for slashing at the day. I am no one to tell you who you are. So, I'm sorry."
I think for a minute, "It doesn't matter, I'm not...er...I'm not the best...I'm not a very nice person either."
He sighs, " It doesn't matter. I'm no one to judge."
I fidget with my fingers a bit, "Yeah. Neither am I."
"Did Blake abandon you? Or did you ditch him? I take it you weren't invited to Taylor's."
"It's not like I wanted to go."
"Blake didn't ask you?"
"No"
"Oh really? I thought he liked you."
"What?"
"You didn't know?"
"No. Not until now. I thought he liked Lura, or I don't know Jackie?"
"Right" He crosses his arms. "Then let me ask you this, what is Blake to you?"
My words trail off, "He's a great guy."
I can feel Luke's gaze on me," I promise I will not tell anyone, anything we talk about now will stay here."
I hesitate, "Well, He's someone who has been there. Despite, not being a very good friend. I really really like him, but I don't want someone who one day.... will leave. You know he's a great guy, but he'll forget about me. One day. If not now, then later."
"Really?" He raises an eyebrow, "Well, can I at least say that Blake sees something in you that everyone else doesn't. It might not matter since he's leaving soon."
I look at him, "What?"
"You didn't know?"
