Riley's POV

I walked towards the school after a long break of the beach and the sun and wasn't feeling too confident coming back. Kicking a pebble on the sidewalk, I held the strap of my bookbag tighter. I didn't even wanna leave my parents. What was wrong with me? I had a lot of friends, great ones in fact, and there was Jamie Bennett. My mind stopped. That was it. Jamie and I haven't even talked for the whole summer. We were just fine before we left DisneyWorld. I guess it could be that we both didn't have a phone at the time to text, but we could've at least had our moms arrange something. Ugh, what was I thinking? That's so embarrassing! Now I'll have to face him. Why was I so nervous? It will just be like old times, will it?

I felt my arms get goosebumps as my body inched closer and closer till- "Hey Riley!" I yelped, "I wanted to call but I didn't have a phone!" There was a silence when I realized that probably wasn't Jamie. It would've helped if I had opened my eyes and taken my hands off my face. The girl, I was assuming since it was feminine sounding(another reason it couldn't have been Jamie) laughed, "Um, I don't think I was expecting a call from you. Now can you give a friend a hug." I looked up and saw it was Tip Tucci standing before me, one of my best friends. I brightened, "Tip!" I hugged her tightly, "Oh my gosh it's been so long." Tip giggled, "I know. Wow, you look awesome!"

Shocked, I looked down at myself and realized how I seemed a bit taller than before, and lankier. Then I turned to my friend and saw that her hair looked slightly longer and poofier, and she looked slim as well. I hadn't seen her since early July because she spent most of her summer across the galaxy with her alien friend Oh. I smiled, "You do too." Tip put her arm around me, "Now you have to tell me what that blow up was about a second ago." I rubbed my head sheepishly, "Oh I..I mistakened you for someone else." The darker girl smirked, "Who did you think I was? Jamie?" I started to blush, "Ummm..unintentionally."

Tip laughed and pointed at my head, "You have that boy in your mind. Why don't you just go and ask him out already?" I felt flustered, "Oh, I don't know.." Tip rolled her eyes tiredly, "What's the deal with everyone being so nervous to ask their crush out? I mean really..it's not so hard." I sighed rubbing my arm, "I know, I know. I just...haven't talked to him since Disney and I don't know if we will still be like we used to." Tip frowned and hugged me, "Don't worry, I bet nothing has changed a bit. It'll be like old times."

Suddenly, Tip cocks her head and grins like a creepy person. Ok? What was going on with her-? Oh.. I found my answer. Hiro Hamada and Wilbur Robinson were walking down the other side of the sidewalk towards us. Tadashi Hamada and Honey Lemon weren't there with their hands locked to one another behind them because they were off at college. Tip used to have a small crush on Hiro ever since she met him last year, being a new student. I put my hands on my hips, "Don't tell me you still like him." Tip waved her hand away and smiled, "No way. I told you I was over him." Being her friend, I wasn't convinced, "Ok, because he has a girlfriend you know." Tip groaned, "I know.. I'm the one who helped Penny and Hiro together remember?" That was true. Tip had went to Jamie and I to see if we'd help get Hiro and Penny Forester to date. It was a little strange at the time how quickly she had gotten over him. But hey, she's was caring enough to let go of him so Hiro and Penny could be happy and I looked up to her about that. Also the fact that she is so loyal and outgoing.

"Hey Tip!" It was Hiro giving one of his toothy smiles. He looked great and seemed like the usual gap-between-his-teeth Hiro we knew. Tip smiled brightly, "Hey Hiro!" He came up to us, while Wilbur walked towards the school, and gave the poofy haired one a high five. He then acknowledged my existence, "Hey Riley." I was used to being unnoticed and kept a straight face, "Hey Hiro." Hiro asked giving his attention to Tip, "Did you get my last text about that video with the two guys that made that video?" My friend nodded, "Yeah, didn't you see I liked it on your story?" He shrugged, "I don't know. My phones been acting weird lately," he turned to me, "Do you have a phone, Riley?" I bit my lip and looked down, "Uh, I haven't gotten one yet." Hiro felt bad, "Oh, it's fine. Aunt Cass didn't let me have a phone till last year so it's not unusual." Tip agreed, "Yeah, and Jamie doesn't have one either." He turned his head across the street and his eyes grew, "Uh, now he does."

We looked in the same direction and gasped. There he was, Jamie well at least it sort of looked like him. His hair was slightly shorter but mostly the same style, his clothes looked great, and was he working out? There was almost a Jack Frost sparkle in Jamie as he flashed his teeth at a few girls passing by holding what looked like the new DPhone 7. Tip nudged me in the side, "You're turning pink girl." I realized but just blushed even more. Hiro noticed and smiled, "Hey, it's ok. I always blushed around Penny, I still do." I moved some hair from my eyes, "He looks so..different." Tip smirked, "A good different?" I kept a concerned look, "I don't know.." This was getting too weird.

"Well that's the new Jamie, or should I say 'James'." Tip raised an eyebrow at Hiro, "'James'?" Hiro shrugged, "Yeah, Jamie is just a nickname for James." James? I wasn't sure if I liked that. I never did like change, like when I first moved here. I now like my new school and new friends, but one of my best friends is changing. What was I supposed to do about that? Tip rolled her eyes playfully and whispered to Hiro, "There goes Riley off to Riley Town again." Hiro smirked, "Riley Town?"

"Yeah, she just drifts off in her own world and gets stuck there." I shook away from my thoughts and groaned, "I heard that." Hiro laughed a little, "You should go talk to James." I felt nervous right then. No way was I going to talk to him. He looked so different and I don't know he'd be the same guy I met three years ago. I tried to create an excuse, "Um..I think we need to head inside before class starts." Tip laughed a little, "We still have a few minutes left. Why not a quick hello?" I freaked, "Uh..no sorry, can't. Tip we need to go, bye Hiro!" I quickly grabbed her curly buddy and ran towards the school.

No One's POV

Hiro raised an eyebrow, "Ok, that was weird." Suddenly, he heard footsteps stop with a thud behind him and a sigh, "Dang it, I missed her." Hiro didn't recognize the voice but it was obvious whoever it was wanted to talk to one of the girls that fled off. He turned around slowly, "I'm sorry, were you-" Soon he realized it was Jamie with a disappointed look on his face. Hiro was shocked, "Jamie? Wow, your voice sounds so different." Jamie looked up at Hiro and smiled, "Hey Hiro. Yeah, it got lower over the summer."

"That's cool," he looked down at 'James' new look, "I like your outfit and hair." Jamie felt a bit of his do, "Thanks, do you think others would too?" Hiro nodded, "Of course, the girls sure do." Jamie mumbled sadly, "Not the one girl I wanna impress." Hiro asked, "What was that?" Jamie's cheeks warmed up, "N-Nothing." It was obvious he was hiding something, but Hiro was unsure if he wanted to trespass in 'James''s private feelings. Jamie couldn't help it. He couldn't hide what he was feeling towards her.. Riley was just so amazing and beautiful, how would she ever notice a guy like him? Hiro could tell Jamie was in his own world and didn't seem as well rounded as he looked, "Hey, Jamie, are you doing ok?" Jamie fell back in alignment with reality and groaned, "Sorry, I'm just.."

"..In love?" Jamie's eyes widened and his face turned faint red, "What?" Hiro crossed his arms with a smug expression across his face, "You heard me. Everyone has a crush on someone. Besides, it's written all over your face. Don't worry, it was all over mine before I got together with Penny." The 'cool' Jamie was smiling like a dork, "Hehe, you caught me." Hiro asked although almost knowing the answer, "So who is it?"

"...Riley."

"Really?? That's awesome dude. She's an amazing girl." Jamie sighed, "I know, that's the problem. She's so sweet, funny, strong, pretty..how would she ever be interested in a guy like me?" Hiro tried to reassure him, "Oh, come on, I bet she would." 'James' continued to put himself down, "How would you know?"

"Because-" Hiro stopped himself. He shouldn't speak for Riley, "Because who wouldn't like a guy like you. Besides, you have a new look." 'James' shrugged, "Yeah, I guess you're right. Thanks Hiro."

"No problem."

Jamie's POV

I don't know if I can believe in myself as Hiro does in me right now: I can't even get my 'swagger' to feel comfortable. When I told Jack Frost about it, he had insisted in me getting a new look. Just because I have a new outfit and hair, doesn't mean I don't feel like I'm going to hurl. I left Hiro and continued to walk, when a girl fell in front of me. She groaned and shook her head. "Oh my gosh," I knelt down beside her and tried helping her up, "are you ok?" The person turned and all I could see was her short cut, black hair whip around to show her bold eyelashes, mascara, and dark red lipstick. Black covered her from head to toe yet her blue eyes struck out like a diamond in a pile of coal. I stuttered a little, "Uh, I..I don't think I've seen you around here before." The girl brushed off her arms and spoke, "To answer your first question, I'm fine just tripped on a rock. Second, the names Leila. I had just...transferred here." I nodded unable to speak, "Ah, my name's Jamie, Jamie Bennett."

Her facial expression shifted. Did she think my name was dorky? I've had criticism in the past of how Jamie was a girl's name. But my names gender neutral so it can apply to either or..like Riley. Leila held her hand out, "Pleasure to meet you, Jamie." There was a smirk in her crystal eyes that I couldn't quite get at, but I let her shake my hand. She let it sit there and stared into my eyes. When the bell rang, I let go and said, "It's time for school. Do you know where you're going?" She just crossed her arms, "I think I can find my way. I'll see you later, Bennett." She started to walk away leaving me to have my emotions in a jumble. Was she flirting with me? It can't be the new look, right? Ugh, I don't want to drag in unwanted attention. Leila wasn't a bad girl, but I wasn't into her that way, and I don't like hurting anyone. I've already had someone on my mind..and I can't get her out. I just shrug and start walking towards the building.
