Once the logistics of the persona you will be adapting are determined, you can move on to changing image. Physical appearance can be altered using various makeup tools. Spirit gum, liquid latex, and wax putty are very useful and can be used to create effects such as old age wrinkles or scars, or shape a nose. 

Useful items: Spirit gum, wax putty, liquid latex, creme that matches your skin tone and one that is a bit darker, stipple sponge. 

Scars: Spirit gum and liquid latex go together. If you are trying to make something like scar tissue, first apply a thin layer of spirit gum* and wait for it to dry. Do not put liquid latex directly onto skin, as it is painful to remove. The spirit gum will become very sticky, and from there you can lay a thin paper tissue on top. This will eventually become the raised skin of a scar. With your fingers, pinch the tissue so that it forms an uneven line, like paper maché. Scars are usually uneven. Apply the liquid latex on top and wait for it to dry. Once it is dry, brush the appliance with powder that matches your skin tone. If applicable, add highlight on top side. This method can also be used to create old age wrinkles that are more realistic from close-up. 

To remove: Use spirit gum remover, a cloth, and warm water. 

Old-age wrinkles: Make a thin line with dark creme along the natural facial creases, and add highlight to the top. Use a finger to draw from the centre of the two lines, drawing the colour outward and making it less defined. Shadows under the eyes can amplify the old age affect, as one's skin loses elasticity as they age. Using a stipple sponge with a slightly darker colour than your skin tone creates a weathered effect. 

Alternate scar method: If you do not have access to spirit gum and liquid latex, certain types of washable glue work as well to create a raised/peeling skin effect.

*Very few people react to spirit gum, but to be safe, before applying spirit gum, brush a small amount onto the back of your hand. Allergic reactions will occur immediately to within five minutes in the form of an itchy red patch on your skin where you put the spirit gum. If you see signs of an allergic reaction, wash thoroughly with soap and water and do not use spirit gum again.
