Chapter 27 : CHANGE OF PLANS

The Shadow's POV

It's Thursday, the day before the big catch. The day before every thing ends. The day before we finally catch the thief.

The White Hawk said he wanted to meet up with me tonight and I had to come to his office, I don't know why he wanted to see me but I guess it had to be important.

I knocked on his door before he beckoned me to come in.

"You wanted to see me?" I ask.

"Yeah, about tomorrow I only told you half of the plan." He says and I'm confused out of my mind.

"What do you mean only told me half of the plan?" I ask.

"Well the bank robbery and hostage situation is only a distraction." He explains, but I'm still confused.

"What do you mean only a distraction?"

"Well you see tomorrow there will be a shipment coming in, in this shipment is a large amount of guns and other weapons. The police will be checking every shipment coming in, but if there is a hostage situation they will be ordered to help with the onlookers and meeting your terms. So while there busy running around trying to save innocent lives I'll be stealing cargo from the ship." He explains and it feels like he just pulled the rug from under my feet.

"So you mean that you aren't after the bank's money?" I ask.

"Yeah no, you see why only take the bank's money when I can get paid thousands of dollars by gangs to buy the weapons. A thief must keep his income options open, you will learn that soon enough." He says.

I only nod as my mind is racing for a solution to fix these new set of problems we have. I have to tell Victoria about this tonight and I know she doesn't want to involve her father, but we no longer have a choice. It is time to come clean about everything.

"Shadow, I need you to go to the docks there is a few people you have to meet up with for me." He says.

"Okay, I'll go now." I say as I turn around to leave. This game has just got a lot more complicated.

Victoria's POV

Today was a quiet day again Even though my parents were back. My mom was gone for the whole day and my dad was most of the time in his office or at the police station to work. He had a lot of catching up to do.

I on the other hand spent the entire day planning my anonymous phone call to the police, and believe me it wasn't so easy. I downloaded a voice changing app on my phone so that my voice sounded more masculine and I couldn't be identified as a girl.

The day flew by and when I looked down at the clock I saw that it was already half past six. I was in my room working on my voice changing device, when my Bluetooth radio device started to beep.

"Hey Shadow." I greet after I pressed the button.

"Victoria, you have to listen to me and listen to me well, the White Hawk changed his plan. He isn't just robbing a bank he is going to rob a cargo ship full of weapons and sell it to the gangs, the hostage situation is a decoy to get all the police off his back." He says and it takes me a minute to register what he is saying.

"You mean he won't be at the bank robbery?" I ask.

"Yes, he only told me the first part of his plan and today he told me the second part." He says.

"Now what do we do?" I ask.

"Victoria, you don't have a choice you have to tell your dad everything, and I mean everything from the time we met to the White Hawk's plan." He says the words I never wanted to hear in my life.

"Where are you? I can really use your help in explaining everything to my dad." I say.

"I'm busy with something but I'll be over as soon as I'm done, but don't wait for me because it can take a while." He says.

"Okay..."

"Victoria just do this, if you don't the White Hawk is going to get away with a whole bunch of weapons and believe me you don't want that."

"You're right I don't, my dad is in his office I'm going to tell him now." I say.

"Good see you as soon as I can." He says before he disconnects.

I gather up all my enegry before I take the long walk to my dad's office, I knock twice and enter after my dad calls me inside. I close the door behind me and take a seat infront of his desk.

"Vici this is a lovely surprise what can I do for you?" He says and I look him in the eye.

"Dad..." I say and my voice breaks at the last part.

"Honey what's wrong?" He asks.

"There is something I have to tell you." He nods telling me to continue and I tell him the truth, from the beginning.

I told him how I collected everything I could on the Shadow, how I saw him returning the money, how he saved my life, us working together, stealing letters from apartments, holding stake outs, how we caught a thief and found the White Hawk, the Shadow working for him and at last his big plan for tomorrow.

When I was finished my dad stared at me, I saw a few different emotions running through his eyes and I didn't know what to expect.

"Dad say something." I beg.

"How could you do this?! All this time you were lying to us! How am I suppose to ever trust you again?!"

"Daddy please-"

"No Victoria, you've been a good girl you entire life but this time you've gone to far, go to your room now I don't want to hear anymore of this. I'm going to the station and I'll see what I can do about tomorrow, but right now your grounded and I'm going to arrest the Shadow."

"Daddy please the Shadow is a good guy." I beg once more, I can feel my tears burning behind my eyes.

"And still you would defend a thief! Go to your room now! Go!" He screams and I hurriedly rush to my room.

My tears are flowing now. I hear my dad storming out of the house followed by the roar of his car's engine.

I quickly put the radio button in my ear and press the button. The Shadow immediately picks up.

"Victoria what happened." He asks.

"Shadow he was so mad, he said he was going to arrest you, Shadow I'm so sorry, my dad didn't want to listen he yelled at me, I was so scared." I rush everything out.

"Victoria calm down, I'm wrapping everything up here I'll be there in a few minutes. Hold on Vic I'm coming." He says.

"Okay." I say before I disconnect. I lay back down on my bed and start to cry, everything's gone so terribly wrong.

Unknown's POV

I was sipping some tea when my phone started to buzz. I quickly took it out of my pocket and answered.

"Hello?"

"White Hawk you better get here quick." I hear Nicholas' voice.

"I'm on my way." I grab my keys and rush to my other factory I own, the one only three of my men know about.

When I get there Nicholas is listening to the listening device in captain Wills' study. He beckons me forward and hands me a pair of earphones.

When the conversation in the study was over I looked at Nicholas.

"Get me Victoria, I think I finally found the Shadow's weakness."

Victoria's POV

My tears started to dry and I laid back staring up at the ceiling. I silently begged the Shadow to hurry along.

I stood up and walked to my window, I stared at the peaceful neighbourhood, the only sounds that could be heard were dogs barking.

I was still staring outside my window when I heard movement down stairs. I heard the stairs planks creek and I was happy, finally the Shadow was here.

"Thank goodness you're here, I'm so glad you came." I say while turning around to face the Shadow, only it isn't Shadow standing infront of me but a scary looking guy.

"Don't worry, I'm glad to see you too." He says and I back away from him, he rushes toward me and I quickly duck out of his way and rush downstairs. He chases after me and before I can reach the door he grabs me.

I try to scream but he places a cloth that smells horrible on my nose. I try to squirm out of his arms but everything becomes blurry and then I fall into total darkness.

The Shadow's POV

After I was done with the White Hawk's errands at the docks I rushed to Victoria. I could here in her voice how broke she felt and I had a sudden urge to hold her tightly.

When I came to the study window, it was already open, that was strange she never opened the window. I climbed in as quietly as I could through the window.

The house was deadly quiet when I stepped inside and I got a weird feeling in my gut.

I rushed upstairs but when I got in her room it was empty.

"Victoria!" I shouted. I searched the entire house but there was nothing. That's when I remembered that I installed cameras at every entry point, luckily my backpack with my laptop was on my bike and quickly went to fetch it.

When I was back inside her room I opened my cameras and quickly played them back, that's when I saw Victoria standing at her window and then turning around. When she turned around there was fear all over her face and I saw a guy with blonde hair stepping forward. Ryan.

Ryan took her meaning that the White Hawk sent him, but why? Did he know I was connected to Victoria? He couldn't possibly have known, I mean I always cover my tracks.

I heard the front door being opened and froze in my spot. The door closes before the person climbed the stairs, I quickly stood up.

Then I came face to face with Victoria's father. He immediately pulled out his gun and pointed it towards me.

"Hands up Shadow." He says and I follow his order.

"Sir I can explain." I say.

"Where's Victoria?"

"She's been kidnapped by the White Hawk." I say.

"How do you know this?"

"Because of this." I say as I point to the laptop on Victoria's bed. He walks closer and takes a look at the camera.

"You have two seconds to tell me who took her and why." He spits at me and I can see he is getting angry, well I would also be angry if I got home and found a thief in my daughter's bedroom. I hope my daughter doesn't get involved with a thief, he won't survive my wrath.

"The White Hawk took her, but I don't know why."

"How do you know it was the White Hawk?"

"Because I work for him and that guy also works for him."

"He took her because of you, that's why she is gone. He somehow knew she helped you and now she's gone." He says.

"No he couldn't have known I clean after myself, there is no possible way he could've figured it out."

"Then explain to me how my daughter is not here tonight?!" He shouts.

"Sir, I promise you I don't know, and believe me I want her back just as badly but placing blame is not going to bring her back."

"You're right, but I'm sorry I can't trust you." He states.

"Sir, please trust me on this one. If I do anything that proves to you that I'm not trustworthy you can shoot me on the spot. But please let's just figure out how he came by that information."

"Fine, for the sake of my daughter I'll trust. How did you contact my daughter?" He asks.
I walk to her bedside table and pull out the Bluetooth device.

"Through this thing." I say as I hand it to him.

"You're sure it's not bugged," I nod,"How about her room then?"
"No sir I checked it, there is nothing. Sir where did Victoria tell you every thing?"

"I was in my office when she barged in. Wait my office." And then he sprints out of the room.

I follow behind him and then he stops infront of his study door. He puts his gun back in it's holster before he looks at me and puts his finger to his mouth indicating we should be quiet while searching for the listening device.

We entered the room as quietly as possible, each searching in his own direction. I checked all the books while the captain checked his desks. I was still searching the bookcase when he cleared his throat. I looked around and he bobbed his head in the direction of the door, there was a pen in his hand which he placed on his table.

He then turned around and left the study, and I followed behind. He closed the door behind me. His hands were shaking and I don't know why.

He leads me to the living room and he takes a seat on the couch.

"Did you find it?" I ask as I take a seat across from him.

"Yes, I did." He says.

"And was it in the pen," he nods, "Where did you get that pen?"

"Uhm Chief inspector Caleb, he gave me that pen." He says as he looks up at me and I can clearly see the betrayal in his eyes.

"You think that this Caleb works for the White Hawk?"

"I don't know. I think so."

"Maybe he was blackmailed into planting the listening device."

"Maybe." He says,"How are we going to find this guy?"

"Well some listening devices can be tracked by their signal, maybe we can trace this one back to the source." I say.

"How long will it take?" He asks.

"I don't know, but it can take a while." I say.

"Then let's get started. I'll call some detectives." He says.

"Okay, but before I start let me go fetch my gear." I say as I stand up and he nods.

I run to my bike to as fast as I can, please Victoria stay safe, I'm coming to get you detective.
