CHAPTER 15: THE UNEXPECTED PHONE CALL.

Victoria's POV

The next morning I was awoken by my loud, overjoyous ringtone, it was just too joyful for this early in the morning. I grudgingly started to search for it with my eyes still closed. I fumbled with a few things on my bed side table when I finally found it.

I opened my half asleep eyes up into slits to take a look at the caller ID. Why would he call this early in the morning? This is an unsuspected surprise. I pushed the green button and held the device to my ear.

"Hey Jaydan, what's up?" I ask with a voice groggy with sleep.

"Hey Victoria, are you still asleep? I just woke you, didn't I? I'm so sorry I woke you, I just had a moment to spare and I thought to call you." He says apologetic.

"No it's fine, so what are you up too" I take a quick look at my alarm clock to see the time,"at 7 in the morning?"

"Oh...I'm so so sorry, I had a meeting at half past 6 and I thought to call you during my break before the next meeting at half past 7."

"Oh it's fine, I can't believe they ask you to be at a meeting at 7 in the morning." I say.

"I guess it comes with the job, but the real reason I called is to check your plans for tomorrow."

"I have no plans for tomorrow, why?" I ask.

"Well you see, because I've been so busy these last few days with all these big meetings, my dad decided to give me a break from all of it, and that break happens to be tomorrow. I was just wondering if you might by any chance want to go on another date with me?"

"Really, sure I'd love to. So what are we going to do?"

"Its a surprise, and sort of an apology."

"An apology for what?"

"For having to leave so quickly on Sunday."

"You don't need to apologize for that, I know you're a very busy person and I don't mind it at all."

"No it was rude, and even though you say it's not necessary I still want to make up for it."

"Okay then, I can't wait to see what you planned. But I still have to check with my parents though."

"Yeah sure, so if they say yes I'll pick you up tomorrow at half past 8?"

"Yeah I'll be ready, so how late will I be back home? I don't want to sound rude but my parents call at a certain time and they can get very worried about me if I don't answer the telephone."

"Oh no it is fine, well I won't be keeping you later than 6."

"Okay thanks, my mother almost got I heart attack last night because I didn't answer the telephone."

"Oh and why didn't you answer the phone?"

"I didn't hear it ring because I was in my room watching a movie." I lie again and I thought that my relationship with Jaydan was going to be very truthful from the beginning, but I can't just tell him about the Shadow. I wonder what Jaydan will think when he finds out about the Shadow.

"Oh I see, what did you watch?"

"Avengers, so what is this early meetings about?" I ask curiously.

"Oh just about the usual stuff like profits, client lists and financial things about the company."

"That sounds fun."

"It is absolutely fabulous." He says sarcastic. And I laugh at him.

"I'm glad you find my suffering funny." He says with, what I suspect to be, mock anger.

"It is quite hilarious."

"Ha ha ha, the most funny thing on earth. Just hold on for me for a sec, yes Greg....are they ready?.....okay I'm on my way. Sorry about that but I have to go again, so I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes definitely."

"Great, till tomorrow then, bye Victoria."

"Bye Jaydan." I reply before he hangs up.

I quickly place my phone back on my bedside table, this is amazing, I've just got asked on a date again! I mean here I was thinking that my life will forever be dull and boring, but I was so wrong.

First I get the honor of meeting Jaydan Stewart, then the Shadow asks me for my help in solving a case, then I go on a date with Jaydan, do a stake out with the Shadow and now I'm asked on a date again?

No, this can't be happening, so much for my boring life. And just to think all this happened in a life span of a couple of days. Guess your life can really change in a couple of days.

I quickly throw of my covers and skip down the stairs to the kitchen, my earlier groggy mood completely forgotten. I rummage through a few cupboards in search of something to cook for breakfast.

My eyes land on the eggs and sausages and my mind is immediately made up. I whip up a killer breakfast for myself, before heading into the living room.

I switch the tv on and watch the news, immediately they show a few reports of break ins in the area. The break ins are all a couple of blocks from each and I can't help but wonder if they are somehow linked. And if maybe, just maybe they might be in cahoots with the White Hawk. I'll have to discuss this later with the Shadow.

As soon as the news finished I changed the channel to a movie channel. And it being just my luck a romantic show was on, this romantic show just send my thoughts back wondering to Jaydan.

What was he planning for us that could last a whole day? I mean a movie lasts about an hour or two, and lunch doesn't take that long either, or breakfast for that matter. But what could he have up his sleeves?

I liked Jaydan, a lot and going on a second date meant that I wasn't half that bad to hang with than I thought. I haven't been on alot of dates before, but this was for sure my favorite date I've ever been on. I wondered if it was true what they say about relationship not working out until you find 'the one' , and as soon as you find him you realize why it had never worked with anyone else before.

Jaydan was a lot different than most guys I've ever met, especially on our first date. He seemed more relaxed around me than the normal guys I've been out with. I would love to have a relationship with him, any kind would be fine, he seemed like a great person.

But the other person on my mind was the most mysterious of all, the Shadow. Last night was totally different than I expected it would be, But it was definitely more fun.

I can't believe the Shadow had this amazing lair under ground. He even had his own gym, that does explain his very muscular arms and abdomen, what? Don't think I noticed, well it is pretty hard not to notice it when he is prancing around in a skin tight black suit. I wonder why he even wears a black skin tight suit, was it make a statement or something?

The shrill cry of happiness of the woman on the tv show snapped me out of my thoughts. The show came to an end and when it was finished I took my dirty dishes to the kitchen.

As soon as my dishes were clean again I went upstairs to grab my laptop, tracking devices, Shadow binder and Bluetooth radio device.

I switched on my laptop and visited news 24's website to see if they had more information on the break ins. I scrolled through a few articles and came across a few addresses, I took out a piece of paper and wrote it all down before I opened the program the Shadow installed for me with the city map and the tracking devices on.

I searched for the addresses on the map and found them hardly a few blocks apart, could the White Hawk be into house robberies now? If he was we sure had our work cut out for us.

I scanned through some of the news articles I've collected and the ones on news 24, making notes of anything that might be of use later on in this investigation.

The rest of my day was spent on research, with the break of lunch and a movie in between. I know that a thief that works for the White Hawk would be helpful, but how long was it going to take to find one.

It could take days, even months before he sends someone to rob a bank or store for him. I just wanted all my questions answered, and these questions could only be answered by a thief that works for the White Hawk.

Its just that I couldn't wait to find the White Hawk and to bring him down, showing to my father that I could be a detective. But the thing is I wasn't a very patient person.

When I stared up at the clock I saw that it was already 5 o'clock and I was still in my pyjamas. I packed up all my stuff and stuffed my Shadow binder into my laptop bag before taking it back to my room.

I went back downstairs to the kitchen and cleaned it quickly before going back upstairs to take a shower and get dressed and waited for the Shadow.

I made sure all my notes I've collected today was in my laptop bag before I placed it on my bed.

It was half past 6 when the Shadow finally showed up, and unlike yesterday I wasn't caught of guard by his entering.

"Hey." The Shadow greets with a smile as he steps inside my room.

"Hi how are you?" I greet back with a smile.

"Great, are you ready to go to work?" He asks with a grin.

"Jip, and I did some research of my own today." I say.

"Oh did you find anything of use?" He asks curiously.

"It might be of some use we will just have to go through it thoroughly."

"Sure we can look at it tonight, you ready to go?"

"Yeah let's go." I say as I sling my laptop bag over my shoulder and walk over to my window, but the Shadow grabs my wrist before I could climb out.

"What's wrong?" I ask as I stare up at him and he lets go of my wrist.

"Maybe we should go through your dad's study window." He says hesitantly.

"Why?"

"After you almost fell yesterday, I've been thinking of how easy it can be to slip and get really hurt so I thought it would be easier to go through your dad's study window, because it is nearer to the ground."

"Oh, yeah that might be for the best, I don't want a repeat of yesterday." I say as I close my bedroom window and lock it up.

"Lets go then." I say as we make our way to my dad's study. We climbed out quickly and easy and before we knew it we were both on the ground.

"That was easier." I say as the Shadow closes the study window.
"Much, I can't believe I haven't thought of it yesterday."

"Well now we know." I say and we walk around the house to the fence. We climb over and walk towards the Shadow's car.

As soon as the door was closed behind me the Shadow rode of to his secret lair.

The second stake out was as uneventful as the previous one and I asked the Shadow if he could take me home earlier, knowing that I have a date the next day and I didn't want to look like a half dead zombie because I was sleep deprived.

The Shadow and I went over my notes we both agreed that there was some things to keep in mind during the investigation, but the rest was of no importance.

My mother also called during the stake out, I told her about my date with Jaydan and sort of asked her for her permission and she agreed (a total shocker), I also mentioned that I would be out late and would probably miss her phone call, but she said she will call anyway just to check if I'm home.

The Shadow took me home at ten and helped me climb back through the study window and I locked it after I said my goodbyes to the Shadow.

I changed into my pajamas and switched off my light before plopping myself on my bed. And as soon as I closed my eyes I was taken into dream land.

So what do you think about chapter 15? It is a bit short but the next chapter is going to be quite long. What do you think Jaydan is planning for their date? And are the break ins linked to the White Hawk?
