The Ritual Pt. 2
Third Person
"Well, now that you know who I am. Let's get this ritual started," Taisla smiled, walking down next to the podium Emma had set for her.
Rebel pushed past the pack, moving to the front. Unlike Imogen, who was crying hysterically, Rebel had no trace of tears, not in his eyes or in track marks on his reddening face. His eyes were narrowed, rigid, cold, and hard. The unmoving gaze was accompanied by deliberate slow breathing, like he was fighting something back.
"How could you do this to us! To her!" Rebel raged, dashing up to his mother. Her minions stood in front of Taisla, protecting her from Rebel's wrath. Anger was overwhelming Rebel blinding him from thinking rationally. He regretted the years he spent searching for this god awful woman.
"Oh, my poor Rebel. You both were brought to earth for a reason and tonight you will learn it," Taisla devilish smirked, enjoying the angrier aura that was coming off her son.
Imogen felt defeated.
All this time, she spent her recent nights frightened because of her mother. Mothers were supposed to protect you, care for you, and love you, but Imogen's mother had planned to kill her all along. Suddenly, it made sense why her mother was distant for most of her life. Taisla didn't want to get attached to the daughter she would eventually have to kill. For some odd reason, Imogen had faith in her mother believing she was under a spell. Clearly, that wasn't the case.
"Rebel," Robert placed his hand on his shoulder. "Forget about her. Your mother is gone now and we have other things to worry about," Robert consoled, rubbing the nape of his neck. Rebel nodded, turning around to follow Robert.
"We're staring now! I'm not letting you all ruin tonight for me," Taisla said, flipping through the countless pages. Taisla gestured for her minions to go behind the group, making sure they're doing everything correctly.
"When you get the chance. Break the fire circle," Robert whispered to Violet, his longtime witch friend. Violet nodded, snapping her fingers, and caused herself to become invisible. Violet moved towards Taisla, having a vast view of the ritual.
The sky was black tranquility married to a poetry of stars. In the serenade of the black, the stars are a choir; they are lights that sing in infinite patterns. The moonlight was a diffuse ocean above them, lessening the inky blackness of the night, but not as bright as to dull the stars that speckled and glittered in the heavens above.
Robert stared up at the sky, noticing one-third of the moon starting to be covered. Anything can occur from the minutes that led up to the lunar eclipse. Robert tenderly squeezed Daenerys's hand, causing her to do the same back. Daenerys sent him a reassuring smile, letting go of his hand and moving a few inches apart.
"Remember what we discussed, we have to form the circle first," Robert said, watching everyone flock into their place.
Imogen sat in the ring of fire, feeling crushed. Her finger glided against the dirt, forming letters with them. Imi glanced up, meeting Lucas's soften magnificent eyes. Lucas's arm reached out into the fire, causing it uproar but before it could catch his hand, Taisla's minion grabbed him.
Taisla's minion placed a cold sharp blade against his neck, threatening to hurt him. Imogen jolt up, a tangled knot was in her stomach. "Please! Don't hurt him! I beg you please, you have me already," Imogen pleaded, wishing you could do anything.
Taisla's bursted into laughter, gesturing with her hand at the minion. The minion released Lucas, retrieving the knife and placing it into his pocket. "Don't worry, Imi. No one is hurting your boy toys, of course, only if you listen to me," Taisla answered, moving over for Emma to take her place.
Lucas nodded, mouthing that 'he's okay' to Imogen. Imogen's collapsed down onto her legs, sitting down crisscross applesauce. She watched as everyone got ready around and Taisla smiling, whispering into Emma's ear. Imogen was fixed on them that she didn't notice Violet next to her. When Imogen turned to face her, she almost released a shriek causing Violet to cover her mouth.
"Don't make it obvious that I'm here. Speak to me with your thoughts," Violet said, removing her finger from Imogen's lips.
"How did you enter the circle?" Imogen asked, shifting her gaze to the others like she was before.
"I was able to open the barrier but only for a few minutes. Robert has a plan," Violet informed.
"Okay, hit me," Imogen answered, watching the moon gradually getting covered.
"When no one is paying attention I'm going to attack the witch who made this fire. Once it's broken, I'll help attack the minions and hold them back while you guys finish the ritual. Once the ritual is over, you have to run! Taisla will be after you," Violet explained, feeling her hold starting to losing up on the ring of fire.
"Wouldn't it be better if I give myself up for Taisla. So we could kill her once and for all," Imogen replied.
"Robert wants you alive. I have to go, my dear," Violet said, petting her hair. "Don't freak out," she warned, disappearing faster than when she appeared there.
"Robert, take out the moonstone," Emma demanded, closing her eyes as she chanted the unrecognizable words. Emma placed her palms up, receiving the energy from the dark magic she had learned. Feeling every inch of her body, getting snuck into darkness. The black magic swept in like how air flew pass her hair.
Violet caught onto what Emma was doing, clearly noting Violet had leveraged. Violet ran towards Emma, quickly chanting a spell and having a dagger appear in her hand. Violet made herself visible and stabbed the dagger in her back.
Emma's concentration was broken, releasing her body from the dark smoke that was surrounding her. A whimper escaped from Emma's lips as she came back to realization. Her natural golden skin has sunken in tone to something so lifeless. Emma tried to pinpoint the cause for this unexplainable pain. It felt like someone had their hand in there and was squeezing her organs. Her eyes traveled down to her chest, feeling the dampness.
Violet quietly pulled out the knife, causing Emma to lose her footing. Violet captured her before she fell onto the ground, her hand reaching to cover Emma's mouth. Emma sobbed and tears flooded like the waters rushing down the waterfall and the only time she'd stopped was to fill her lungs with air.
Violet waved her hand, making an invisible spell form around them. Violet dragged her body away from the podium and placed her near where Drew was.
"How are we supposed to place the moonstone in the middle if there's magic fire blocking us," Robert questioned, pulling out the package that contained the moonstone from his pocket.
"Give to me and Emma will allow me to enter the fire," Taisla answered, moving through and approaching Robert with her hand ready to latch onto the moonstone.
"Can't you just tell Emma to let me in instead?" Robert asked, holding back the box.
Taisla scoffed, placing her hands on her hips and finger tapped continuously. "Ugh, Emma," Taisla called, rolling her eyes. "Emma!" Taisla turned to face the podium, noticing no one was there anymore. "Emma! Where are you? You're wasting our time," Taisla complained, traveling to the podium.
"If you want someone to do it right, you got to do it yourself," Taisla muttered to herself.
Taisla inspected the unattended area, noticing a few alarming sites. The grimoire was changed from the ritual page to a random spell. Taisla flicked back the pages to the appropriate one, feeling the pages damp. That only alarmed her more, causing her to step back and inspect the ground. Taisla's hand extended to the ground, touching the dampness and turning her finger to find a red color liquid on her fingers.
Violet noticed that the woman was about to discover what she had done. Violet's eyes shifted to the ring of fire that started slowly burning out. Meaning Emma's spell was breaking, her magic rushing back to her body and help herself escape death. Taisla glanced over to the fire noticing the magic spell breaking and Violet knew she had to attack now.
Violet clasped her hands together, chanting a spell that would create multiple versions of herself. One of her copies appeared next to Taisla, placing her knife to her neck and gripping her body tightly. Taisla gasped, looking over to her shoulder and seeing an unfamiliar woman. Taisla's eyes wandered off to her minions, realizing the same woman was behind them as well.
"You can't do anything now, Taisla," Violet said, digging the dagger deeper into her neck.
Taisla snickered, licking her bottom lip. "You think a knife could stop me?" she questioned, raising her eyebrow. Taisla's arm reached up, pulling her arm off her chest and used all her might to release herself. Violet's grip started slipping, her brows furrowed. How was she so strong, she thought.
Frankie emerged from the forest, walking forward to where the original Violet was. The handcuffs cling with every step, the smaller hoops dangled against her raw olive skin. "Transfer these handcuffs to Taisla and she won't be able to do any magic," Frankie said to the closed eye, Violet.
Violet's hand latched onto the handcuffs, feeling the magic flowing through them. Violet carefully recited a familiar spell, causing the handcuffs to disappear from Frankie's wrist and transport to Taisla's. Frankie rubbed her raw wrist, itching them freely now. Suddenly Violet's grip became stronger once again holding Taisla back from doing anything.
"The moon is almost covered. We have to get the ritual done fast," Violet said, one of her copies walked closer to the group.
Robert opened the box, pulling out the grey chiseled moonstone. "Imi," he said, playing catch with the stone in his hand. Imogen reacted, her body turning towards Robert. "Catch this," Robert said, smoothly throwing her the stone which she was able to seize. "You remember how to start the ritual right?"
Imogen nodded, placing the moonstone in front of her on the small slab. "Do you have a knife?" Imogen questioned as she rubbed her clammy hands together. Robert nodded, walking forward to hand her the knife. He wasn't going to risk throwing a harmful item like that.
Imogen nervously bit her lip, getting ready for the spurge of pain that was going to happen. She opened her palm, gliding the dagger across it causing a lesion to surface. Imogen hissed, squeezed her palm into a fist, letting the blood drip down her hand and onto the moonstone. Suddenly, right when the blood landed on the moonstone, fire blazed up causing Imogen to flinch.
"Imi, are you alright?" Lucas asked, rushing over to console her.
"Yeah, don't you remember," Imogen answered, loosening her hand to reveal that the lesion had already healed.
Robert went next, Daenerys following and they kept going down the circle until everyone had produced blood on the crystal. Sebastian hesitated when it was his turn, the sight blood made his legs go weak. Sun had to hold him up and walked him back to your designated spot. Unlike Imogen and Rebel, the other's palm continued to draw blood.
The moon was about to be taken over by the shadow of the sun in several moments.
"You think you have everything all figured out," Taisla commented, pulling her hands with all her might causing the handcuffs to bend and break. Taisla grabbed her arm, pulling herself over and slamming Violet down to the ground.
Violet groaned, disappearing from Taisla and returning back to the original Violet. Violet twitched when all her copies abruptly entered her. Violet clutched her stomach, the sensation to violently cough taking over her. Violet vigorously coughed into her palm, tasting the metal taste in her mouth. When she opened her eyes, she noticed the blood that stained her palm.
"Join hands now!" Violet warned, dashing down the path.
Taisla narrowed her eyes at the group, she raised her hands and planned to spell them. Before the spell could leave her lips; she felt sharp pain laced through her head and colorful spots flashed in front of her eyes. It felt like her whole body was being beaten and any moment caused her muscles or bones to ache. Taisla wept, collapsing down to the dirt ground, her whole body in anguish.
There Frankie was, standing beside the woman and chanting a spell on her. Frankie met Taisla's gaze, whose eyes were wide opened when she realized Frankie wasn't dead like she thought. Frankie waved her fingers towards the woman, a smile plastered brightly on her face. Frankie was finally free and in control of her own powers and decisions.
"I can hold it down from here. Save your power," Violet said, pushing Frankie's wrist down and replaced it with hers.
The special families joined hands, Imogen rushing over to clasp Lucas's hand. Imogen glanced over to the woman across from her, Daenerys. She sent a bright smile to Imogen, making Imogen's pulse slowing down. Also, Lucas squeezing her hand, helped Imogen felt safe again. Especially when she was freed from the ring of fire, it felt suffocating.
"Okay everyone, repeat the spell I taught you last night," Robert said, glancing up to the moon which was inches away from being fully covered.
The group obeyed Robert and started chanting the spell that was written in the book. Once the first words left their mouth, a powerful bond was created through there hands. The group was now bonded together, receiving a protection ring around them. The fire was blazing high in the middle of them, reaching up to the sky.
Violet was able to spell Taisla minions to sleep, having all their bodies thud to the ground. The agonizing pain caused Taisla to lose consciousness for several moments. Violet noticed, kneeling down and checking for her pulse but when she reached for her neck, Taisla grabbed her neck. Violet gasped, her eyes widening in horror, feeling the grasp getting tighter around her neck.
Finally, the spell they recited was finished. Robert gestured for Imogen to move into the middle of the circle. Imogen let go of Lucas's hand, the white light around the circle connecting when Lucas held onto Jamie. Imogen clutched onto her necklace, gently rubbing the pedant Lucas made for her.
All that was left, was for the group to deliver the last spell which would unleash a lighting strike to hit Imogen, causing her powers to become accessible along with the others. Robert started the spell, causing the bright light around to become blinding.
Taisla held onto Violet's neck, leaving her handprints on her. Violet's eyes started rolling back, her face was turning purple as the last airs escaped from her lungs. Suddenly, Taisla felt two muscular arms around her shoulders, bending them back. Frankie rushed to Violet's aid, helping her regain her normal breathing.
"Give up Taisla! You're not getting Imogen tonight," Drew toyed with her, making Taisla's blood rise higher.
"I'm not the one getting Imogen tonight," Taisla replied, sinisterly smirking, reciting a spell in her mind.
The spell brought all her minions back from the slumber they were in. They jolted up, stretching their limbs before they got up. Immediately, they came over to free Taisla from Drew's grip but Frankie stood in front of him. One of the minions performed a spell before Frankie could, sending her flying back and slamming into a tree. Frankie's body thudded to the ground as a whimper released from her lips.
"Frankie!" Imogen shouted, trying to leave the new barrier she was stuck in but bounced back.
Frankie forced her aching body to respond and wandered back over to Taisla's crew. She watched as her minion slammed Drew's body to the ground, holding his arms behind him. The anger bundled up in Frankie was released with the spell she cast on the minions. The minions received the same fate Frankie did, crashing into the trees. Once Frankie reached Taisla, she gripped her fingers tightly in her hair, violently pulling it.
Suddenly, a familiar individual emerged from the gloomy forest, her heels clicking against the pavement.
Katherine.
Taisla smiled when Katherine arrived. Two daggers hanged from Katherine's belt as she swiftly walked towards them. Instantly, Katherine chanted a spell causing Frankie to lose consciousness. Before her body could thump down to the ground, Drew turned over and caught her.
"Griffen," Katherine said, sending him a stare.
The rest of the minions rushed over to help their Master while Griffen went behind Darius and Katherine behind Daenerys.
"Just admit you lost. The circle is spelled," Carter taunted, admiring the moon before the eclipse started.
"Spells can always be broken," Katherine smirked, sending a nod to Griffen.
Katherine stabbed Daenerys through her back, the same thing taking place to Darius on the other side of the circle. Daenerys gasped, causing Robert to stop chanting the spell and looking over to his bleeding fiance. Katherine pulled the knife out only to pierce her once again and again.
Julian broke the circle, catching his boyfriend who was bleeding profusely. Darius needed a hospital fast but they couldn't leave the mountain until everything was done and Darius knew that. Darius's hand reached out to his cheek, tenderly rubbing Julian and taking in the final moments they have together.
"Darius hold on please," Julian pleaded, the muscles of his chin trembled as his tears landed on Darius's shirt. "I can't lose you."
Darius started coughing, spitting out blood; his minutes were running thin.
"You won't Juli, now let's get this ritual over with," Darius answered, using Julian's body to lift his fragile one. Julian stared at him with great concern but forced the troubled thoughts in the back of his mind.
Daenerys's knees went weak, causing her to plummet to the ground. Robert shooted down, catching her body in his arms. Daenerys locked eyes with Robert and he cradled her, each of them bathed in her blood. Robert felt his face crack into those looks he has so often seen at the hospital, that point of no return, when love is torn apart. Daenerys hair tumbled over her face and Robert swept it back, feeling the coldness of her skin, before gently kissing her lips.
"I love you, Rob-er-t," Daenerys smiled so briefly before her breathing became a noisy rattle. . . then she was gone.
"Dany, Dany. . ., Dany," Robert whispered, tenderly shaking her body but no response was coming forth. "Dany, you can't," Robert sobbed into her chest and tears dripped onto her blouse, raining down the parched soil. Each new wave of a hot trail of agony as slim, bare shoulders shook in each rake of emotion through his frame. Fire of shame and anger burned under his skin and a deep emptiness filled his heart as the sentiments brewed over and boiled past the seams he could no longer hold.
A heart breaks in the heaving waves of a new disturbing reality that has arrived uninvited. It is entering a life they can't bear and so they break. Imogen watched Robert cry over his loved one, feeling her body shake with grief, tears flowing unchecked, apart of her was breaking too.
Katherine stomped over Dany's body, entering the broken barrier to finish her little scheme. Suddenly, the moon was in the total shadow, having some light passing through and bent towards the moon. All of the colors in the spectrum were blocked and scattered, making the red light shine through easier.
Lucas tried releasing his mother's hand but a force was holding them together. He scanned the room, noticing everyone struggling with freeing themselves. Lucas's eye met Taisla, placing her hand down by her side. She must have placed a spell, he thought.
Katherine strutted towards Imogen while Imogen continued walking back while her hand rubbed her pendant on her neck. Eventually, her movement was stopped from the boundary letting Katherine get the upper hand. Kat gripped her arm, dragging her towards her.
Imogen tried pulling back but Katherine had all the strength. Katherine reached over to Imogen's neck, ripping the necklace from her and chucking it in the forest. Katherine draped her arm around Imogen's neck, squeezing her airway as Imogen tried yanking her hand down.
Imogen groaned, using all her strength to tug Katherine's arm down but she didn't budge an inch. The energy was circling around them, the barrier becoming stronger as the lightening started. Lightening came, a brilliant shock of white in the graphite sky, forking silently to the unsuspecting ground- the thunder booming.
"I've been wanting to do this since the day I took you," Katherine whispered in Imogen's ear sending shivers down her spine.
"Katherine, please don't do this! I'm sorry for hurting you. I deeply regret it," Rebel said, his eyes swelling up with tears at the sight of his sister.
"Now, you're sorry! Well, it's too late," Katherine answered, jabbing the knife with great force into her chest.
The world seemed to freeze around Imogen as she focused on the knife that pierced her chest. Blood immediately exiting from her mouth, causing her to choke on it. Katherine released her, harshly tearing the blade from her heart, letting Imogen's body plummet to the ground. A bolt of white lightning broke from the utter darkness, hitting Imogen's body directly, absorbing all the powers that were released.
The barrier was now broken along with the spell; Lucas lurched forward to Imogen's body. He turned her body around, feeling her coldness and viewing her tear strained red cheeks.
"Imi, I'm sorry," Lucas sobbed into her chest unceasingly, hand clutching on her jacket.
Frankie wandered over, her hands over her mouth and silently sobbing into it. Frankie kneeled down, wrapping her arms around the heartbroken boy. She benevolently stroked his back as his tears stained Imogen's chest. A tiny lapse let him pull away, blinking lashes heavy with tears, before he collapsed again, his howls of misery worsening. The pain must have come in waves, minutes of sobbing broken apart by short pauses for recovering breaths, before hurling him back into the outstretched arms of his grief.
Suddenly, Drew disappeared from Imogen's wrist leaving Lucas' name in the darker shade. With everything going on that little detail was left ignored.
"We should start going. The plan has worked correctly thanks to Katherine," Taisla said, flashing out before anyone could challenge her.
The sobs were stifled at first as Rebel attempted to hide his grief, then overcame by the wave of his emotions that broke him down entirely, all his defenses washed away in those salty tears. When he turned to at least face Frankie, both were the picture of grief, loss, devastation.
Darius laid in Julian's arm, enjoying the warmth that radiated off of his boyfriend. The blood continued to ooze out from his wound, leaving Darius feeling weak and lifeless. Julian stroked his lover's cheek, tears rolling down his trembling chin.
"I'm sorry for spending the past weeks with my friends. If I knew this would happen I would have appreciated you more," Julian wept.
"Shh," Darius raised his finger to his lips. "I was lucky to be your soulmate," Darius smiled, his shaky breaths coming out ridged.
"I love you, Darius, so much!" Julian sobbed, placing his head into his neck.
"I love you too," Darius managed before his eyes rolled back in his head.
The night was filled with despair. Everyone cried into each other's arm, feeling like they lost apart of their family. Sawyer stroked Kate's hair as she sobbed in his chest, trying to regain her breathing. Sun, Sebastian, and Jamie huddled in the group hug, softly crying while reciting prayers. Carter watched over the group, taking in the thousands of thoughts running through their minds.
Woah, so that was a chilling chapter! It was very intense and kinda hard to write especially the deaths since I grown to love all my characters (even the evil ones lol).
I hope you didn't cry <3
Any theories for what's happening next?
Did you cry '-' ?
