I Need You
Imogen
"What happened to your soulmate?" I asked.
Rebel sighs, gazing up at the ceiling, "Well Jenny, she passed away before I could even get to know her," he frowned, shifting his eyes from ceiling to me. "But Emma... Emma, she was breathtaking, with her long wavy blonde hair and blue soulful eyes. She would always get agitated when I chewed loudly, which I always did on purpose." I saw Rebel's lips curved up into a slight smile.
"Like Lucas," I smiled, reminiscing about how similar our soulmates are.
"You could say that," he said.
"So what happened between you and Emma?" I asked, sadly staring at him, wondering if I could have had a sister-in-law.
"Well, we fell in love as everyone else does. I loved the way I made her smile, it was all I needed. We were together for about 3 years, but out of nowhere. She disappeared from my life. No message or calls. The girl I was willing to give my life for was now gone like she never existed," His smile faded and turned into tears. I wrapped my arms around him, rubbing his back slowly.
"It's okay. If it's meant to happen it will!" he assured, trying to convince himself.
I should be this positive.
"I'm going to check on Lucas," I mumbled, withdrawing my arms from him, strolling out the kitchen.
"Okay. But Imogen," he called out.
"Yes?" I swung around to face him.
"Don't ever let Lucas go. That love happens once in a lifetime," he smiled.
"I thought you liked Drew," I asked, raising one of my eyebrows.
"Well, I still prefer him but I wouldn't want my baby sister to be with someone like him. Lucas is your soulmate. I can see from the way you guys look at each other," he grinned.
I turned back around, walking down the hall to the living room. I didn't plan on letting Lucas go. We have such a genuine bond with each other; it feels like time ceases when I'm with him. When we were kidnapped, having him by my side gave me hope. When Drew saved me, my heart yearned for Lucas's presence.
When I entered the living room, I saw Lucas rubbing his eyes and trying to lift himself up.
"Imi!" he groaned, my heart melting at the sight of him yawning.
"Shhh... You should be resting," I kneeled down picking up the ice pack that was used on his eye. "Should I get you a fresh one?"
Lucas tenderly grabbed my arm. "Come, lay down with me," he whined, causing a giggle to escape my lips.
My body collapsed onto the couch, pulling his head into my lap. I cherish his charming features as he tangled his fingers in my hair. Even with a swollen eye and busted lip; he still looked astounding. Lucas stared into my eyes, deeply memorizing the color and shape of them as he slowly started to lean in.
My eyes shut the moment his lips met with mine, my bottom lip hugged at his upper lip while he tilted forward. Gently kissing each other, I smiled a little in the kiss when he pulled away by surprise. I gave him a genuine smile, biting my lip a bit. I traced my fingers all around his cheeks, admiring his every feature. These small moments make up for everything we just went through.
"I feel safe when I'm with you," I whispered, feeling my cheeks start beaming.
"I feel complete when I'm with you," he laced his fingers with mine, causing goosebumps to appear on my arms.
"You always have to one-up me," I teased.
"Promise me, you'll never leave me," he said, his thumb stroke my cheek.
"I promise," I whispered, feeling my heart thumping out of my chest.
----
"I should start getting ready, it's almost time to go get Drew," I lifted myself trying to remove myself from his silk touch.
"Imogen, can I ask you something?" Lucas asked, glancing down at his scars.
I nodded, trying my hair into a ponytail.
"Do you like Drew?" he blurted, his fingers tracing his scars on his palm.
My mouth gaped wide open, struggling to answer the question he just asked. Drew? When I'm with him, he gets under my skin and I can't help but quarrel with him. Unlike Drew, Lucas respects my decisions, Drew will never respect my choices and I can't be with someone like that.
My heart just never stops racing when I'm with Lucas like I'm high on adrenaline.
"Lucas, you know I like you... a lot actually," I smiled, feeling my cheeks burning up.
"That isn't a no," Lucas responded.
"Lucas, I don't like Drew. If I did, I would be dating him, but I'm not," I said, relaxing back on the couch. Placing my hand over his, trying to reassure him.
Lucas has every right to be insecure about my feeling. It's only been several days since I kissed the boy. Already betraying the relationship I started with Lucas, but I know the kiss meant nothing to me. However, I knew that gave Drew hope to win me over. Why am I suddenly a prize to be won? I'm a person and I have my own feeling.
"Come on, we getting Drew," Rebel interrupted.
"Okay. Give me five minutes," I said, running up the stairs to my room. Quickly I changed into a convenient outfit. Clothing loose enough to be able to put up a fight if it comes to that.
"I'm ready," I yelled, racing down the stairs, glancing up to see Lucas waiting by the door.
"Go back to the couch, you need rest," I expressed, tugging his arm back towards the living room.
"I'm coming, it's the least I can do for Drew," Lucas explained.
We spent a good ten minutes arguing about the situation. I just wanted him to relax and repair, but Lucas insisted to go help find Drew. Rebel continued tapping his foot, waiting for us to come up with a verdict. Eventually, he yelled at us, sending us straight to the car. Rebel wanted to come back before nightfall, but at this rate, we wouldn't come back before then.
_________
"We're here," Rebel said, parking the car.
Rebel explained to us in the car that we would have to continue on foot. We couldn't risk the truck being noticed by the man. He probably expected our return. Wouldn't put it past him to have traps set up for us. Rebel pulled out knives from his backpack and handed us both one knife.
------------------------------
The unrelenting sun seared the asphalt streets and baked the steel buildings until every surface was blindingly hot, pouring thermal energy back into the oven-like air that felt as though it would combust at any moment. The heat made the walk unbearable, slowly as the sun went down the wind started to pick up. I'm grateful for what Drew did for Lucas. It showed a different side of him. I hope we are able to save him and make back all alive and unscratched.
--------------
"Imogen, you are following behind us. Okay," Rebel whispered, entering the house with Lucas behind him and I followed after him. My hand gripped the knife, ready for anything that could happen. Rebel led us to the first room, inspecting the room before motioning for us to enter it.
I saw two-toned arms hanging down from the metal chains. His veiny arms were covered in bruises and dried blood. From his posture, he seemed to be unconscious and not being able to hold himself up. His wrist is probably aching from being pulled down from his weight.
"Oh, my Drew!" I sprinted up to him, using my finger to lift up his face.
"Why ar-e yo-u he-re?" He asked with blood was dripping out of his mouth.
"Did you think I'll just leave you here?" I whispered, trying to wipe the blood dripping onto his chin. He must have got a scrape on his scalp since blood was dripping from his forehead. He looked beaten up, but his heart keeps fighting.
"Just go. I don't want to risk you or Lucas getting caught," his eyes overflowed with concern.
"I'm not leaving without you," I said.
"You have Lucas now... go," he croaked.
"Drew, we need you..." I begged, harshly biting my lip and feeling blood rushing out. "I need... you."
"Do you really?" he said, smiling forming on his sliced lips.
"Yes I do," I whispered with a grin. "Now let's go."
Lucas and Rebel were searching around the room for a heavy object. We were all trying to look around without bringing any attention to us. All I could find is random notes. They all looked important, but I don't have enough time to invest my time in them.
"Lucas?" Rebel whispered, shaking a pair of keys in hand.
I squealed quietly as Lucas went to go get the keys. How dense is this man for leaving the keys in the room, surely he wouldn't do it on purpose? Right? Lucas snatched the keys, rushing over to Drew's shackles on his wrists. He placed the key in one of the holes on Drew's wrist and it opened right away.
"Imogen," Drew's sage-colored eyes widened open along with his mouth. Lucas wore the same worried face that Drew was. As my body turned around, I felt an intense pain on my head. Instantly, knocking me down to the floor, my glasses dropping off my face. I grunted against the pain, trying to fight it and help them. As I was hunting for my glasses on the floor, I heard Rebel attacking the man. Finally, I found my glasses, which were now cracked, having no purpose.
"Are you okay?" Drew asked, rubbing his raw wrists. My eyes widened at the sight of Rebel covered in the man's blood. Rebel had plunged a knife into the man, his blood was oozing filling up the room.
"I am but," I glanced down at my glasses. "They aren't," I sighed with a modest smile tugging at my lips. My glasses were pointless at this point, leading me to chug them on the floor.
"Don't worry. I'll get you a new one," Drew said.
"Okay let's go before the deceased man magically wakes up," Rebel insisted gesturing for us to all go. Lucas placed his hand out for me, I used his grip to help lift myself but I felt embarrassed because my weight was bringing him down. After getting up, I led the way out of the room while Lucas and Drew followed me.
Lucas edged his hands towards mine ever so slightly. I could feel his fingertips brushed against mine, the heat radiating through us. I gave his hand a light squeezed, feeling proud of being able to achieve what we wanted. I couldn't help but let a broad grin appear.
"You know, you still look beautiful without your glasses," I nudged him slightly.
"Just make sure I don't fall because I can't see," I giggled. Trying to place a kiss on Lucas's cheek. Every time I would go on my tippy toes he would move away teasing me.
"Come on! You can flirt later," Rebel said, getting in front of us. I peeked behind to see an expressionless Drew. He just nudged between our hands, trying to separate them. He needs to get over this and act like an adult.
_________
I fell asleep nuzzled into Lucas's neck and our hands connected. Rebel went to his room right when we got in and Drew picked a random room. Lucas grasped my hand and yanked me to our room. I turned on the TV for noise in the background since it's soothing to have a background noise before going to bed. I started reapplying medicine into Lucas's wounds. After I finished placing the last bandage, Lucas pulled me into the bed. We cuddled while watching "Gossip Girl" and occasional tickle fights.
"I'm going to check on Drew," I placed a small kiss on his cheek and unfold his arms around me. My feet slipped into my bunny slippers, squeaking with every step I took.
-------------------
"Hey, Drew," I said, finally finding his room. His room was on the other far side of the house, this side of the house wasn't as dark as the rest of it. Instead, the room was colored a vibrant coral and blue.
"Sup, princess," he said, unfolding his clothes that he brought.
I rolled my eyes, walking over towards the edge of his bed. I watched as he finished putting his clothes in the drawers. He then gazed up at the mirror, inspecting the open cuts on his face.
"Here I'll help," I offered, getting off the bed and walking up to him. I used my tippy toes, trying to help clean his cuts. After seeing me struggling on my toes, he lowered himself, letting my fingers have better access. I glided my finger down his lip, getting the dried blood off.
"You should really stop risking your life for my happiness," I said, walking to the bathroom connected to his room. I quickly washed my hands then searched the drawers for rubber alcohol. After not finding any rubber alcohol, I exited the bathroom and back into the bedroom.
"I would die happily knowing you were happy," he wiggled his brows.
"You already make me happy," I added.
"Imogen!"
"Yes Drew?"
"You know I care about you right? Princess" he smirked.
"Yeah, yeah," I rolled my eyes, exiting his bedroom. I started walking to the main hall, getting confused in the hallway. The entire bottom floor has the same color scheme, making it complicated to figure out which way led to my room. On my way down the hall, I bumped into Rebel right before the main hall. Rebel didn't seem to be in a peaceful mood.
"What's wrong?" I asked and followed Rebel walking to the main hallway.
"We need to go back," he stated.
I sighed because of his reply. "I'm not sure if I'm ready. Can we just move?" I asked.
"What happens if Lucas can't come with you? I don't even have enough money to get us a hotel." Rebel tensely said, pushing his hair back.
"Okay... I get it," I answered.
"Better get packing. We leave in an hour or two," Rebel said, pointing at his watch.
"This sucks, I can't even see the stairs properly," I sighed, rubbing my eyes.
