Friendly Chatter
Lucas
"I remember when my parents told me we were moving, I was disappointed, but I was also thrilled. Because I had a feeling, I would meet the girl who means the world to me," I said, glancing at Imi's rosy cheeks quickly, then back towards the road.
"I'm happy that the universe brought us together," she spoke, feeling her fingers interlock with mine "I don't think I would be able to go through this without you," she signs.
"How are you coping with everything, you know about the ritual," I asked, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze.
"It's a lot to take in but I think I figured out a way to get out of it," she answered causing me to furrow my brow.
"Really? How?"
"My mother said she would be able to take all the powers away and become the chosen one herself. Thank god, Robert called to go meet him, I want to discuss it with him," she spoke.
"Did you only call me so I could drive you," I teased
"No," she squeals, hitting my chest playfully "Didn't know wanting to see my boyfriend was a bad thing," she said.
"Why does he want to meet you today," I questioned as I pulled up in his driveway.
"To help Kate and Sawyer's with finding the materials needed for the ritual," she answered.
"Hopefully your talk with Robert goes well, I just want everything to work out in your favor," I expressed, unbuckling my seatbelt.
"Aren't you the sweetest," she planted a kiss on my cheeks, immediately causing a rush of warmth to them.
"Let's go, you guys should head out before dark," I said, connecting my lip to her soft ones, I felt her smile against my lips.
+++++=+++++++-++++++_+++
"FINALLY, you're here," bubbled Daenerys as she excitedly ran towards Imogen, engulfing her into a tight hug. Everyone was waiting for Imogen in the backyard, the entire group wasn't here. Besides Kate and Sawyer, who were going to go look with Imogen, the only other guests in the room were Carter and Darius.
I watched awkwardly as Imogen was discussing with Daenerys their plans for today, I'm assuming. I decided to pull out my phone and start watching animal videos to pass the time. I watched as Robert grabbed his keys from the table and started heading out.
I felt a light touch on my shoulder, "Hey, we're going to go now, Are you sure you're okay staying here?" she asks with concern, looking into my eyes.
"Yeah, I'll just hang out with Carter and Darius," I told her, caressing her cheek.
"Fine, I'll make it up to you when I come back," she smiled, "Maybe we could have our own sleepover tonight," she flirts, wiggling her brows.
"Oh, I think we can arrange that," I joked, acting like I had to think about it. We both leaned in, connecting our lips together in a sweet kiss but still made my legs feel like jelly. When we separated, we both had smiles on our faces, I held her hand till my arm couldn't anymore.
I glanced over at the direction Darius and Carter were in, Carter was sitting down on a bench, reading the book "Moby Dick." Darius looked like he was training, he was punching a punching bag then would go straight into sprints. If I punched the punching bag, I should be able to break it with my strength, but I struggled to open a pickle jar sometimes. I think I need to trigger my strength because my father is able to lift almost anything.
I started walking towards them, hearing the sounds of Darius grunting as I came closer. I usually only speak to Imogen when we have meetings, sometimes Sawyer, but he's aggressive at times. I could see Drew and him getting along well, Sawyer is literally an older clone of Drew.
"Hi, Carter," I said, he lifts his eye from the book then quickly looks back down at his book.
"Oh, you got stuck here too," he asked, fixing his glasses.
"Yeah, why did you come here," I asked, sitting down on the opposite side of him.
"Robert wanted to inform me on an issue that can't and don't want to share," he answered, flipping his page in his book. Carter takes some time to get used to, he seemed rude when I met him but he just doesn't care.
"I don't even know why Darius is here training, it's his day off," Carter commented, causing Darius to give him a death stare. Darius came to the bench, grabbed his water bottle, and sprayed it into his mouth.
"I don't have a natural instinct like Julian, he was born into while I have to work twenty times harder," Darius informed.
"Yeah, I know, by the way where is Julian?" Carter asked, closing his book.
"Why bother asking if you can read my mind," Darius responded, continuing to land punches.
"That would be an invasion of privacy but I will if you want," Carter said, placing his head on his forehead, closing his eyes. A few moments passed before he opened his eyes and revealed, "Oh, he went out drinking with his friends and you didn't seem too happy about it. Is that why you're beating up the punching bag," Carter wonders.
"Shut up, it's none of your business but at least I got a man," Darius snapped, causing a smile to appear on my lips. Darius didn't have to go that hard on the poor old man. It isn't his fault he's a bookworm.
"Oh, shut up Lucas," Carter said, rolling his eyes.
Did he hear my thoughts?
"Yes, I did," he answered.
"Well, stop it," I insisted.
"I can only control my powers to a certain degree, we break the ritual. I'll have better control," he acknowledged, "I can hear how you haven't triggered yours yet."
"Get out of my head," I said, shaking my mind, thinking it would stop him.
"How I would die for your strength," Darius added.
"I'm pretty sure you're stronger than me," I commented.
"Yeah, maybe for now," he mumbled, attacking the punching bag once again "Try to imagine the punching bag as the man who attacked Imogen maybe it could trigger it."
I figure what the heck, worth a try right. I start stretching my limbs, channeling my anger for the man. If we're a few minutes later, she could have been raped. I remember seeing her terrified face, her dress ripped open because of them. I closed my eyes, took in a deep breath, and got ready to punch. My hand swung out and connected to the punching bag.
"Was that str-," I stopped mid-sentence seeing the punch bag was no longer in front of me.
"Well, I guess I'm done with that for today," Darius chuckled, taking his gloves off. Carter's eyes were opened wide, probably from the shock. I looked down at my hands. Wow, I really did that. I gave myself a quick pat on the back and walked back to the table.
"Don't feel so proud of yourself, your father could do more damage than that," Darius commented, opening his water bottle.
"Don't forget about his uncle," Carter said, pointing his finger "He could do mass destruction."
"Uncle? I don't have an uncle, both my parents were an only child," I told them.
"Oh," Carter blurted, "Well, your father lied, he has a brother but if I were him, I wouldn't want to remember him either," Carter chuckles.
"I thought his brother died?" Darius asked.
"Well, supposedly he's dead but I have my theories about that, besides they never found the body," Carter explained, "Since we're talking about families, we should talk about Imogen's and her mother's reunion."
"Didn't know you liked to gossip," I playfully nudged his shoulder.
"Carter talks about everyone since he always knows everything," Darius said.
"It just something didn't add up about the reunion," Carter pondered.
"What do you say that?" I asked.
"Well, because of one night, during our high school years. Her mother, who was currently dating Imogen's father at the time forced me to go to a party with them. I had to drive them home since they were both drunk but while I was driving, they kept grabbing the steering wheel causing an accident to occur."
"She also died this year," I said, furrowing my brows.
"Exactly, which means she shouldn't have come back," Carter said. Imogen's family only has two lives to depend on but what could explain the reason for her mother being back. I haven't seen her act differently, but I only just met her recently.
"Are you suggesting she has an ulterior motive," Darius asked, giving Carter a concerned look.
"Can't you just read her mind and tell us if she does," I suggested.
"Well, gee wish I thought of that," Carter joked, rolling his eyes "I tried that night but she was using something to block it."
"Didn't she completely ignore you that night?" Darius commented.
"Yeah, she acted like I never existed," Carter said.
"If I was her, I would want to forget you too," Darius laughed, causing Carter to glare at him.
"That wasn't funny," he defended.
"Yeah, sure Carter," Darius said, still laughing at his joke.
"Are you hungry? I can drive us," I offered.
"Sure, this is probably the only time Carter will get asked out on a date," Darius smirked, watching Carter closely for his reaction.
"Good luck sleeping tonight! I'm going to make sure I torture you in your dreams," Carter taunted. Remind me to never piss off Carter or he would expose all my secrets. We all went back into the house, I pulled out my phone and clicked on Drew's contact.
To-Drew
I need to discuss something with you concerning Imogen.
I thought it would be best to tell Drew about what I've learned. I know I will protect Imogen no matter what and Drew would do the same. The primary goal is keeping her safe and sound. If that means watching her mother's every move then so be it.
Thank you for reading this chapter!!! You got to see more of Carter and Darius; I love their banter! Also cute moments between the precious couple. You learned about Lucas's uncle, who will be important later ;) and most important is suspicion about Imogen's mother..
Do you think her mother is working against her?
Who do you like more Darius or Carter?
Thank you for every vote, comment and even just reads!! LOVE YOU!!
