Are you In?
Imogen
Slowly and reluctantly, I uncovered my face. I blink, close my eyes, and blink again. Streaks of sunlight penetrated the window and blinded me. It also didn't help that the annoying blonde boy next to me kept calling my name. I stretched my arms above my head and yawn.
"What?" I whined, slightly irritated because I was woken before I wanted to.
"Don't want to freak you out, but where did you plan to get off?" He asked, stuffing his back-bag with the notebook lying on his lap.
I rubbed my knuckles onto my eyes causing myself to see thousands of different black and white shapes. "Umm I was thinking about Miami," I answered.
"Don't panic, but we passed Miami an hour ago," he said.
"What?" I furrowed my brows.
How long was I asleep for?
"Where are we then?" I asked, staring out the window noticing the buzzing tourists taking pictures by a palm tree.
"Clearwater," he replied, snapping the clip on his backpack.
"Well, that should be fine," I said, shaking my leg impatiently waiting for the neartest bus stop.
It took around five minutes before the bus stopped again and immediately unbuckled my belt. I squeezed myself through his legs and thanked the bus driver as I stepped off the bus.
The overcast sky was streaked by brilliant orange, the sinking sun giving a new light to this town. In the haze of the morning, I felt my loose dress starting to cling to my back. I alway hated sweating! With a skin as pale as mine sweating made it seem like I was fuming with anger.
At least, I was still in my black dress which gave my legs more room to breathe. But the sun was being absorbed by the dark shade of my dress causing me to sweat even more. I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up getting a sunburn in a few minutes.
"Hey, hold up!" he said, causing my eyes to roll back in annoyance.
"Why are you here?" I spat, using my hand to cover the sun and get a better view of everything.
"Wanted to give a pretty girl company," he winked, causing my stomach to churn. He pulled a pair of sunglasses from his backpack and swiftly placing it on my face. "You wouldn't last a few minutes without me."
"Oh, so are you saying just because I'm a girl that I need a boy to watch over me," I ranted. "I don't need no man t-."
"Okay, shhh," he whispered, covering my lips from finishing the sentence. His cheeks were bright pink and his eyes darted towards the people around us. "I didn't mean it like that okay. You seem cool and I want to get to know you better."
He slowly removed his palm from my lips. "Okay, than tag along? I don't really care," I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"Don't worry, I'll make it worth your time," he winked, clutching onto his backpack strap and followed me down the block.
"If you really want to make it worth my time than you should buy me breakfast because I'm straving," I complained, pouting my bottom lip at his direction.
"Anything for you, sweetheart," he said, pulling his phone out from his pocket. "Have a certain place you want to eat at?"
"I'm craving waffles," I said, feeling my mouth water at the thought of a waffle sitting in front me.
"Got it, the place is the only ten minutes away," he said, grabbing ahold of my hand.
And instantly I wanted to slap him but I fought myself back.
"So, Kai since we are going to be spending some time together why don't you tell me something about yourself?" I asked, wanting to analyze the young man.
"I'm an 18 years old runaway. My family were extremely overbearing and never let me do anything. I'm pretty sure they're fine with my other three sibling since I was their least favorite," he explained, glancing back and forth at his phone and the street signs.
"Okay so the real question is who's your soulmate?" I asked, feeling my skin crawl everytime I felt his hand tighten around mine.
"I never took the time to get to know her. Didn't really care to especially after finding out how sick she was. I didn't want to waste my senior year watching over my sick soulmate who passed away," he confessed, squinting his eyes because of the blazing shimmering sun.
"Oh, so you're a Rebel," I giggled, but when I turned away I rolled my eyes begging to get hit by bus.
Anything to get away from this guy.
"I guess I am," he smiled, appearing like he was at the top of the world. "If anything I'm happier to be spending my time with you, Sweetheart," he licked his bottom lip and his tongue glided against the piercing on his mouth.
The urge to eat no longer existed because his failed attempt at flirting is causing my stomach to feel ill. I'm suddenly regretting complaining about Lucas and Drew they were both better than this psycho. Can't believe I already have this boy wrapped around my finger.
"Oh, is that true," I questioned, letting my lips move upward to form a slight smile.
"Yes, sweetheart," he smiled, placing a quick peck on my cheek.
"Don't kiss me," I demanded, whipping away the wetness he left on my cheek.
"It's your turn now," he said, pressing on light's button and waited for our turn to go.
"Okay, well for starters my entire family is dead or dead to me. I've met my soulmate and tried to force a relationship but ended the first minute I could. He's still obsessed with me so don't be surprised if he shows up," I said in a montone tone.
I'm staring to realize how suffocating my old life was. It felt nice being able to breathe without having everyone down my neck. I'm free to do whatever I want and be whoever I want.
"So you and your soulmate are officially done?" he asked.
"Isn't that what I said?" I frustratedly groaned.
Lucas. Why did I waste so many months with a guy like him? All the memories I have with him are apallening and regretted every moment with him. The thought of him bothered me to the core! How could I fall for someone so refined? Lucas was so dull and worked so hard to appear perfect. Isn't that exhausting? Should have dated Drew instead at least his hot airhead with a temper. Now that's more interesting.
"Can I kiss you?" Kai asked, stopping us short in the middle of the block causing others to curse around us.
"I already told you no! Beside I was just talking about how shitty my life was and you think now was the perfect time to kiss me," I complained, ripping my arm from his grasp and continuing on without him.
"Romance isn't my forte," he admitted, running up next to me.
"You think!"
He scratched the nape of his neck and I noticed his cheeks burning pink again.
"Hurry up, I'm hungry," I whined, running faster down the block.
Finally the sign of Bettys Pancake house was apparent and I used any energy I had left to reach it. The sign was blue color along with blonde white lady holding onto a stack of pancakes with a creepy smile plastered on her face. This isn't a good marketing strategy but maybe that's all they could afford.
Surprisingly, Kai beat me to the door and held it open for me. He went up to the hostess and asked for a table for two preferably a booth. She walked us to the booth in the back of small retro pancake house. As soon as we sat down, we glanced at our menus and waited for our server to come over and take our order.
Kai ordered a coffee with a sample, and I ordered hot chocolate with extra whipped cream along with two waffles. The server took way too long to bring us our drinks and I was so close to going up to give her a face of knuckles but then she appeared.
I quickly consumed the hot chocolate trying to regain the liquids I lost during our run. "I'm going to head to the restroom," I said, lifting myself from the booth.
Once I entered the bathroom, the sight of my face made me want to gag. My face was sunken in and my eyes had visible dark circles under them. My knuckles were extremely pale with undertones of blue giving them an older look. What's going on with me? I never looked this bad. I pulled my hair from it's ponytail and noticed dry pieces of it falling off. My hair was never this fragile and normally was healthy.
I groaned, wanting to poor even more of my hair out but than I'll be bald. Because of how distraught I was I forgot to even used the bathroom and walked back to the booth instead. Kai was scrolling through social media waiting for my lovely self to appear again.
"Miss me?" I bat my eyelashes, slipping into the booth.
"Of course, sweetheart," he answered, sending a little wink.
"You gotta stop calling me that," I ordered, plastering a fake smile on my lips.
"But sweetheart," he whined, reaching over for my hand but was cut off by our plates being served to us.
I grabbed the syrup from the holder and overloaded my waffle with it. I watched as the warm, sticky, viscous liquid fell in 360 degree around my massive waffles as my syrup touched my butter melting the yellow square into oily submission like it should be. Kai attempted to grab a piece of my waffle until I whacked his hand with my fork.
Once we finished I offered to pay but Kai insisted on paying instead.
"Here," I said, pulling out my wad of cash and pulling out a fifty-dollar bill to hand to him.
"No, it's fine. My treat," he assured causing me to send him a death stare.
Why do guys always demanded to pay? Hello this isn't the eighteen hundreds when woman weren't allowed to anything but get married. Just let me pay for my goddammit food!
"Kai, follow me," I said, strolling down the lane that led to the bathroom.
We entered the woman's bathroom, and thankfully Kai didn't complain about entering the girl's bathroom. He probably thinks I'm going to please him in here or something. I felt this intense burning sensation coming from my chest. The feeling wouldn't shake and it felt like my body was draining, losing energy because of it.
"I want to do something but I can't put my finger on it," I said, having my hand roamed around in my pocket feeling a knife.
How the hell did that get in there?
I hesitatingly pulled it out to reveal a sharp steak knife appearing to pierce someone's skin if needed.
"I feel like doing something but I don't know what," I pondered.
Maybe that's what I had to do.
"Woah what are you doing?" Kai asked, his eyes widening at the sight of the knife and his hands rose in defense.
"Don't you trust me?" I smirked, tightening my grip on the knife.
"Yeah," he gulped. "I think so."
Suddenly the bathroom stall opened, revealing an eldery arburn woman finishing her business. She gasped when noticing our existence and started laughing trying to shake off the fear. However, her eyes made their way to the knife in my hand causing her to clutch onto the door stall.
"Help!" she shouted, but I ran up to her and covered her mouth.
"Kai, do something productive and help!" I huffed, trying to hold the woman tightly but for an old lady she was a fighter.
Kai rushed towards us, gripping her hands and holding them behind her back. She squirmed underneath my palm, trying to use her legs to attack Kai but failed.
"Shut up, already!" I frustratedly whined, catching a glimpse of the knife I dropped moments before. I quickly reached for it and before I knew it I slit her throat. The blood left the artery it belonged in surges, beat out by her slowing heart. At first it came thick and strong, flowing through my fingers as I clasped the ripped flesh.
My eyes widened at the sight of her eyes rolling back and slowly stopped fighting back. Her body collapsed in Kai's arm as the blood ceased to pump out of her. Wow, can't believed I just killed someone. Not like I really cared probably saved her from her miserable life.
"What the fuck did you just do?" Kai whispered, stunned to the core. He allowed her body to droop down onto floor revealing his shirt that was soaked in blood.
"Oh well, she wasn't important anyways," I yawned, shuffling towards the sink and washed the blood painted knife.
My eyes wandered upward to the mirror noticing my complexion changing back to it's original form. My skin was glowing, along with my hair that didn't break from a little tug. I guess, my theory was right in order to keep my healthy form; I have to kill someone.
"You just killed someone and are acting like nothing happened," Kai whispered, tugging on my arm.
Suddenly, there was banging at the door and someone was trying to open it. "Miss, Hello are you okay?"
"Shit. . . We have to go," I whispered, roaming around the bathroom in search of a quick escape.
"What the hell? Are you crazy? We can't leave a dead body here," he said, seizing my arm and keeping me from moving.
"Yes we can and we are. Unless you want to end up in prison but I have a life to live," I clarified, forcing my arm out of his grip.
My eyes wandered towards the window, recognizing that was our only way out of here. Kai signed, following behind me and gestured towards the window. He bent down allowing me to use his body as a stool. I used my arm strength to carry the rest of weight and landed on the concrete ground.
"The things I'm doing for you, sweetheart," Kai groaned, lifting himself through the window and I did my best to help him out.
Our hands interlocked, as we ran as far our little legs could take us. If it wasn't for the fact that we were running from a crime scene I would have ripped Kai's hand apart.
"How could you not feel any remorse," he asked, leaning against the tree trying to catch his breath.
"Emotions are for normal people and my dear Kai, I'm nowhere near normal," I explained, brushing his blonde locks that were sticking to his forehead.
"Well, the poor woman probably had a family or was important to someone," he explained, trying to guilt trip me.
"All good points but it's whatever. Don't worry, I don't plan to hurt you, sweetheart," I smirked, sending a wink towards his direction. "I'm not forcing you to stay with me but if you report me. . . I make sure you don't live past that day," I threatened, twirling my hair in between my fingertips.
"Don't worry, I'm not leaving not like I have anything else to look forward to," Kai answered, graping his arm around my shoulders.
"Whatever works for you. Now let's keep walking before they catch up," I said, strolling down the blocks eventually leading to a park.
This should make them lose us if they're anywhere near us.
The park covered a wide area that could fit about three small houses. There were benches for people to sit in every corner and jogging tracks around the edge of the park. The west corner had some swings were children could come and play. Flower hedges and brushes grew all around; this made the park look more pleasant and attractive.
The sound of children running around was all muffled in with the sound of the cars driving by. Kai latched onto my hand, rubbing slowly causing my skin to crawl. We stood underneath a palm tree, using it to shield the radiant sun. Kai kept rabbling about random childhood story but I couldn't focus on anything other than the person across the street.
Once he turned around I realized they had found me. Not only was Rebel there but he dragged the whole gang along.
They all found me so fast, didn't even give me a day on my own. Couldn't they let me breathe for another day before being attacked by them. This is so irritating! Luckily, they failed to noticed me and I wanted to use this to my advantage. Is it bad that I wanted to cause Drew and Lucas some pain?
I wrapped my arms around Kai's neck, biting my lip seductively. His eyes darted between my lips and my eyes. Kai sat there grinning like an idiot, slowly licking his lips. He's been waiting for this moment since he met me and I'm finally allowing him. I dragged his face down closer and used my tippy toes to give myself an extra boost.
Our lips touched for the first time. He tasted like syrup and bacon. I felt a gentle tug on my lower lip. His tongue slipped into my mouth while his hand rosed to cradle my face, pulling me even closer to deepen the kiss. Now, that I kissed a boy with piercing I can cross that off the list. During the kiss, I opened my eyes making sure to make eye contact with ex-soulmates.
Both their jaws were clenched and you could sense the anger in Drew's eye. However, with Lucas his eyes were holding back tears yet he couldn't tear his gaze away. Was Lucas this weak that he would cry over me kissing another guy? Imagine if I go as far as in sleeping with Kai.
"What was that?" He beamed like twelve year old getting candy from their parents.
"Your reward," I giggled, biting my lip.
More like my revenge.
