CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE - AN ANNOYING GUY

SHIRATORIZAWA HAD CHEERED WHEN THEY had gotten a point. "That block was rather effective." Oikawa commented.

"Did that just decide this match?" Iwaizumi asked.

Tendou glanced over at Sugawara. "Next time..." Sugawara began looking at Tendou. "We'll do that again next time." Tendou only gave him a dark look in reply.

TWEEEET!

The two teams then switched sides as it was Wakatoshi's turn to serve. The whistle blew as Wakatoshi threw the ball up in the air and did his jump serve, but it ended up hitting the net, getting a point for Karasuno.

"Sorry." Wakatoshi apologized.

"Don't mind!" Goshiki reassured.

Hinata then switched in, giving Nishinoya a high five before he headed onto the court. "Narita-san! One more, nice serve!" Hinata encouraged.

"Nice serve!"

The whistle blew as Narita served in which Leon received it. "Sorry!" He apologized as Wakatoshi went to cover for him.

"Tendou!" He shouted.

Tendou spikes the ball in which Narita barely received it. Atsushi quickly covered for him. "Asahi-san!" He called out, sending the ball over to the ace.

Asahi ran forward as before jumping up, but he ended up getting blocked by Tendou, Shirabu, and Leon. The ball went straight for Hinata's face as he stumbled back but ran forward.

Sugawara tossed the ball over to Atsushi instead. "One blocker!" He thought, slamming the ball down on the court and getting a point for Karasuno.

"All right!"

"Go, go, Karasuno! Push it, push it, Karasuno!"

Sugawara and Atsushi chest bumped each other. "Hinata, is your eye okay?" Atsushi asked in concern, with Hinata rubbing his cheek.

"Yup!" Hinata responded.

"You sure got hit in a strange place." Sugawara stated.

"My hands couldn't go up in time, so I thought about receiving it with my face, but I didn't want it to hit my nose, so..." Hinata explained.

"What?! So you moved your face because you could actually see it?"

"Well, if I got a nosebleed, I'd have to go back onto the bench." Hinata responded.

Both Atsushi and Sugawara smiled widely. Hinata suddenly felt an intense aura coming from Wakatoshi as he stepped back. The two of them stared at each other.

TWEEEET!

"Kazuhito, nice serve!"

"Ohira-san!"

Leon spiked the ball past Hinata and Sugawara, scoring a point for Shiratorizawa. Nishinoya then switched back, making sure to high five Narita on his way.

The game resumed as Wakatoshi received the ball. "Goshiki!" Shirabu called out, tossing the ball over towards him.

Both Hinata and Sugawara jumped up to block. Goshiki did a straight shot as Daichi dived down to receive it. "Sorry! It's long!" He apologized.

Tendou tossed the ball over back towards Karasuno's side. "Suga!" Daichi called out as Sugawara received the ball.

Nishinoya then ran forward as Karasuno did the synchronized attack once more.

"Synchronized attack: all!"

The ball ended up going to Atsushi as he spiked it, sending the ball towards Shiratorizawa's side of the court and getting another point for Karasuno as they celebrated.

"Satori!"

Tendou flinched at the sound of Washijo's voice. "Stick your hands up, damn it! I don't care if your prediction ends up wrong! I put you in there knowing damn well that might be a possibility!" Washijo scolded.

"Right!"

The buzzer then sounded as Kageyama held up the jersey number plate. Sugawara rushed over as he took the jersey number plate in his hands.

"Are you finally back, Tiredyama-kun?" Hinata teased.

Kageyama turned around as he pointed to the orange-haired male. "Watch out for the back of your head." He warned, making Hinata flinch.

TWEEEEET!

"Kageyama, one more, nice serve!" Daichi encouraged as Kageyama spun the ball in his hands. He tossed the ball up in the air before spiking it. Yamagata then received it as it went back into the air.

"It's coming back!"

"Chance ball! Be careful with..." Ukai began.

"Got it!"

Kageyama jumped up as he was in setting position. He tossed the ball towards Hinata who slammed it straight down, getting a point for Karasuno.

Atsushi looked at the score.

Hinata was being praised while Kageyama looked at him with irritation. The game resumed as both teams scored points, Shiratorizawa hitting the double digits first.

Semi switched in with Shirabu. He bounced the ball as he got ready to serve. The whistle blew as Semi threw the ball up into the air and did a jump serve, scoring a point for Shiratorizawa. Nishinoya and Atsushi could only look back in shock.

"No-touch ace!" Tendou cheered.

"All right!"

"Nice kill, Semi!"

The buzzer sounded as Karasuno walked off the court towards Ukai. The sound of Shiratorizawa's cheering squad could be heard as Karasuno's spectators glanced down with worry.

"We're going to finish this." Wakatoshi informed.

"Yeah." Semi nodded in agreement.

"Fire it up, fire it up, Karasuno! Get it, get it, Karasuno!"

Karasuno just looked at their cheering squad with surprise.

"The City of Trees, Sendai, lies below. And when you look up, the magnificent Sendai Castle. Our school, our glorious Shiratorizawa Academy."

The buzzer sounded off again as Semi spun the ball in his hands as Shiratorizawa's cheering squad continued singing.

Semi threw the ball up as Atsushi dived down to receive it on time. "Chance ball!" Leon shouted.

"Wakatoshi!" Semi called out, tossing the ball over towards Wakatoshi. However, Hinata stopped the ball with one hand. The ball was sent back towards Shiratorizawa's side, giving Karasuno a point.

"All right!"

"N-Nice block..." Takeda complimented. "Was that a block?"

"I told him to do a soft block, but that was more of an insanely close receive than a quick block. I'd be too scared of that hitting my face to ever do that!" Ukai responded.

"Right. All right! Yeah..."

"Don't get so worked up over a lucky shot!" Kageyama told him as Hinata looked towards him in irritation. "That's a block that got in the way of a receive."

"U-Ushijima-san, you just got stopped by a nameless first-year." Goshiki stated. "Guess you've still got a ways to go."

"I guess so." Wakatoshi agreed bluntly.

"To think that Hinata would be the one to stop Toshi-nii like that." Atsushi thought as Shirabu was switched back in.

Hinata was getting ready to serve as Nishinoya slapped Narita's hand. Hinata was then switched out for Yamaguchi.

"We're counting on you!" Hinata told him.

"Go, Yamaguchi!" Kinoshita, Sugawara, Nishinoya, and Ennoshita shouted in which Yamaguchi nodded at them.

"Don't hold back. There's not a single thing for you to be scared about." Daichi reassured, smiling as he did so.

TWEEEEET!

Yamaguchi tossed up the ball, doing his jump float serve. "Hayato!" Wakatoshi called out as Yamagata received it.

"Damn it!" He cursed.

"Chance ball!"

"Got it!"

Karasuno then began their synchronized attack once more. Kageyama tossed the ball over to Daichi who got blocked by Goshiki. The ball landed on the court as Yamaguchi collapsed to the ground from the impact.

However, the point was counted as Karasuno was now at 11 points. The whistle blew as Yamaguchi did another jump floater. Goshiki easily went to receive it.

"Wakatoshi!" Yamagata shouted, receiving the ball over as Wakatoshi began running forward.

"Slowly. Slowly." Asahi commanded. "Ready, and..."

Daichi, Asahi, and Narita jumped up as they blocked Wakatoshi. "Got it!" Atsushi reassured, receiving the ball.

Kageyama tossed the ball as Narita jumped up, it ended up not matching, but Narita was able to get it past Sakamoto as Shirabu was late on receiving it.

Karasuno was now tied with Shiratorizawa. Yamaguchi was given the ball as he caught it. He did another jump floater as it ended up being in.

"Yamaguchi!"

"Nice serve, Yamaguchi!"

Washijo then stood up. "Time—" He started to say, about to call for a timeout.

"What's the matter, Goshiki?" Wakatoshi interjected. "Why would you have any reason to panic with all of your talent?"

Washijo sat back down on the bench and crossed his arms. "Right." Goshiki responded.

Atsushi saw the interaction his older brother had with Goshiki and clenched his fist in anger. "I'm not jealous. I'm not jealous." He told himself. "Gah! Damn you Goshiki Tsutomu! I'm so freaking envious! I've been trying for years to get Nii-san's praise! You piss me off!"

"I'm gonna defeat Toshi-nii and prove to him that I'm worthy! Just watch me!"

TWEEEEET!

Yamaguchi threw the ball up as he did another jump floater. Wakatoshi stepped out of the way as Leon received it. Goshiki spiked the ball past Asahi and Narita, getting Shiratorizawa another point.

Hinata then switched in with Yamaguchi. "Good job, Yamaguchi! Leave the rest to me!" Hinata reassured.

"But you're going to be switching immediately with Nishinoya-san." Yamaguchi reminded him.

Hinata flinched as Nishinoya grinned. Goshiki was bouncing the ball as his serve was next. The whistle then blew. "Here we go!" Goshiki said.

"Bring it!" Daichi, Nishinoya, and Atsushi challenged.

Goshiki threw the ball up in the air as he did his jump serve. The ball went over the net as Atsushi rushed over to receive it. "Damn it!" He cursed.

Nishinoya dived forward as he saved it on time. "Noya-san!" Atsushi called out.

That's when Wakatoshi then jumped up before scoring another point. Shiratorizawa now had 14 points.

"They've got Karasuno cornered." Iwaizumi spoke up.

"Not to mention Glasses isn't here, either." Oikawa added on. "I wonder how they're gonna survive this match point."

TWEEEEET!

Goshiki threw the ball up in the air as Daichi dived down to receive it. "Nice receive!" Sugawara, Yamaguchi, and Ennoshita shouted in unison.

Karasuno then began their synchronized attack once more. Kageyama tossed the ball up as Daichi slammed it down, getting another point for Karasuno.

Sakamoto looked at Daichi in irritation. "You actually made the guy who just received the ball hit it again?" The first-year middle blocker thinks to himself.

"Daichi-san, nice serve!" Atsushi encouraged his captain.

The whistle blew as Daichi threw the ball up in the air, but it ended up being short. It hits the net as Leon saved it.

"Goshiki!" Wakatoshi called out, sending the ball over towards Goshiki.

"Right!" Goshiki shouted as he jumped up and spiked the ball past Kageyama and Narita. However, Atsushi was able to receive it.

"Kageyama, get the last!" Asahi shouted, receiving it over to the setter.

Kageyama sets the ball over the net as Shirabu tosses it back. "Ushijima-san!" Sakamoto shouted out, sending the ball over towards Wakatoshi.

"Ready, and..." Asahi said as him, Narita, and Kageyama jumped up to block Wakatoshi. Wakatoshi spiked the ball as Nishinoya received it.

Asahi quickly dived down to cover for him as Nishinoya dived down once more, keeping the ball connected.

"It hasn't fallen yet." Atsushi told himself.

Shirabu tossed the ball as Wakatoshi spiked past Asahi, Narita, and Kageyama.

TWEEEEET!

"All right!"

Atsushi was kneeling down as he clenched his fists. He could feel every one of his teammates mood dropping.

"Don't you dare look down!"

Ukai's shout caught everyone's attention as it went silent. 

"Volleyball... is a sport where you're always looking up!"

Everyone's mood suddenly turned back to normal as they had looks of determination on their faces.

Everyone looked over to see that Tsukishima was running back onto the court with Kiyoko right behind him.
