Chapter 15
{Page 16}
A burning Legacy
Tommy stared at the pictures Wilbur had given him, out of all the days he could've chose, he chose today, the day where Tubbo and Tommy were supposed to run away.
Still having time left to visit Tubbo, he bolted out the door.
•~~~•
"Tommy?"
Tubbo curiously looked at him, behind Tubbo was a sleepy looking Spark and a clean looking room.
"Why's Spark here?!"
Tommy interrogated him, Spark walking up to Tommy happily.
"Oh you just wanted Spark? He just wanted to stop by, he was supposed to grab some berries but he ate them all."
Sparks tongue stuck out, Tubbo rolled his eyes.
"Not the point, can I come in? Our plan may have to pause for a bit."
Worried, Tubbo allowed Tommy to come in.
He got comfy in one of the seats, Tubbo sat across from him with a small drink in hand.
"Alright, tell me what's up."
Tommy didn't want to explain everything so he just showed him the photos Wilbur had gave him. He threw them on the table with frustration.
Tubbo took a closer look at it.
"So...there's someone stalking you...?"
Tubbo says, not knowing about Tommys crisis at the moment.
"No! Tubbo...Wilburs my brother alright?! And he said the rest of the family is coming soon! I want to see them Tubbo but..."
Tommy buried his hand with his hands, wanting to just die right there.
"Tommy they're your family, you haven't seen them in forever..I suggest we should stay for just a bit longer! Are they visiting tomorrow by any chance?"
Tubbo assured, taking a small sip of his drink.
"I honestly don't know Tubbo, but Wilbur said I might visit them. Have you eavesdropped on anything?"
Tommy sighs, scratching his head and desperately hoping for something good.
"How dare you accuse me of eavesdropping on stuff!"
Tubbo pouted, Tommy gave a blank stare.
"Fine. Well, I overheard Wilbur talking to Fundy and a man called...Phil? Yeah I think so...Wilbur said that only he would come? Why what's the problem?"
"...I'll see..."
Tommy wanted to break down, but not right now. The world is in danger, and he knows a simple teenager like him can't really make a difference.
But.
"Tommy no need to finish that sentence, we can stay, all and all I'm happy either way! Besides, Sapnap promised me that he would give me an enchanted bow I think..."
Tommy gave a small and thankful smile.
"Thanks Tubs. I mean it."
Tommy smiles fondly, standing up with his bag.
"You're welcome! Now hurry along home now before-"
"Let's go now, you all ready?"
Tommy jumped up, Tubbo however wasn't all energetic.
"What?!"
"Hurry Tubbo! You have the potions?"
Tommy looked around Tubbos place, searching through his drawers instantly.
Though Tubbo stayed still.
"Yeah it's in my bag but-"
"Then let's get a move on!"
Tommy says, fiddling with the potions and nearly walking out the door.
"Tommy stop!"
Tubbo yelled, making Tommy slightly flinch.
"What's with you? What's with this sudden burst of energy?!"
Tubbo asks, worried about Tommys mindset.
"...lets go Tubbo."
"No! Answer me!"
Tubbo simply says, crossing his arms and staying his ground.
"..I don't want family stuff to get in the way alright? I want to see them when everything is at peace. So I have the chance to live without fear interrupting! I'd rather end this then just faking everything is all right."
Tommy explains, looking out the window in case anyone was up at this hour.
Knowing Tommy is right with his statement, he handed him over the potion.
"Don't drop it alright?"
Tubbo smiled but he could sense that Tommy is tense, possibly if he's making the right or wrong decision right now.
"Alright, these potions last for 5 minutes, so we have to be as stealthy as possible, you sure you don't want to change your mind?"
Tommy smirked,
"Thanks for thinking about me, but I'll be a man."
He smiled triumphantly.
"Just don't die now, as soon as we leave, we must drink this alright? As soon as we do we!ll get outta here as soon as possible. Misty is just outside the gates so we could fly away."
Tubbo opens the door quietly, looking at Spark then at Tommy.
"You explained this to me way too many times I get it! Lets end this once and for all."
Tommy walked to the door way, Tubbo and Spark by his side.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
"3...2...1.."
The drank the potion at the same time, it was a weird drink, sending small shivers down their spines but they're invisible.
Not knowing who is going where, they went their own ways, sneaking to the gates out of L'manburg.
Tommy went through the path they created while Tubbo was actually sneaking and being slightly paranoid.
Tommy took his final looks at L'anburg, it may be his last look at this anyways. He turned back. And fucking Wilbur appeared.
Wilbur of course didn't see him but he was walking along with a blonde man, with huge wings at his back, wearing a green and white bucket hat.
"..no.."
Tommy muttered when he saw the two. They were smiling happily.
"You think he'll forgive me?"
He heard his supposed "fathers" voice talk to Wilbur. He didn't want to hear the rest, he won't see them anyways.
It's painful, but he'll see them soon.
He brushed passed Philza, nearly bumping into him, he didn't care to look back, he doesn't want any distractions.
That was advice from Dream, and he stands by it.
Tommy eventually arrived at the gate, the potion effects nearly gone.
Tubbo was patiently waiting with Misty and Spark was somehow already there.
"Tommy! C'mere quick before we get caught." Tubbo hopped on Misty, Tommy confused he saw a horse ready and set to go.
"What's with the...?"
"No time to waste, I borrowed one of Erets fastest horses from the stables, now hurry! I'll explain on the way."
Tubbo rode off, Tommy soon caught up as well, Spark running alongside them.
"Now will you explain?"
Tommy asked, focusing to steer the horse.
"I overheard while with Niki that Asheville is a town that'll be attacked next, rumours spread fast here. We're going to believe in those rumours and hopefully learn more."
Tubbo explained, following the path.
"Makes sense, but you sure you'll believe in a rumour? I mean Wilbur said that we were about to go to this city and-"
"We'll go after, besides Asheville is in the same direction. So we won't waste anytime."
"Wow look who's all smart?"
Tommy sarcastically replied, he heard a small laugh.
"Hey you have more fighting experience and knowledge of the topic, I'm trying to work on my shooting."
Their pace went to a trot and the two rode peacefully.
The sky and stars shone brightly, making a beautiful scenery.
It was a calm, comfortable and a peaceful silence, neither of them wanting to destroy the atmosphere.
Though Tubbo saw Tommy's tense posture and upset look.
Not wanting to ignore it for longer, he decided to make a move.
"You alright Tommy..?"
"..yeah.."
"Lies. What's wrong.?"
Tubbo scoffs at him.
"I just...I feel so selfish and, are we doing the right thing? Am I really going to succeed in life?"
Tommy finished his little rant, Tubbo pursed his lip and stared at his friend with concern.
"Tommy.."
"..yeah?"
"You know what I do when I'm upset?"
Tubbo says, always wanting to say this piece of advice for a while.
"..you contemplate to bees?"
Tommy replies jokingly, receiving a shaking head but with a small laugh.
"Actually no..."
Tubbo looked at the shining sky, that was glittered with stars.
"I look at the stars."
"Sounds stupid."
Tubbo couldn't help but snort, making Tommy laugh.
"S..seriously! I just imagine that...it's hard to explain but, it's like a million people are watching you, counting on you even, waiting for the right time. Doesn't make sense..."
Tubbo says, stuttering with his sentence.
"No keep going, I'm listening."
Tommy's voice was soft and calming, Tubbo was surprised by the sudden tone but decided to continue.
"Well, you know all the legends back in the past?"
"..yeah..?"
"When I look at the stars, I imagine those legends watching down on us, waiting for us to fulfil something, a legacy even!"
Tommy could've swore he saw Tubbos eyes glimmer with excitement.
"Legends..."
Tommy repeats, some sort of fire starting inside him.
"They're people who made the world better or saved the world, they died many years ago but I heard their spirit lives in this building and people have said that they would give advice to these chosen ones."
Tommy tilted his head at him.
Chosen ones?
"Wow you must really be interested in them then huh."
Tommy says, feeling some sort of feeling.
"Mmhmm, I personally think Stampy would be good friends with Fundy."
Tubbo smiles widely, glad that he could talk to somebody about this.
"Huh-?"
"You'll understand soon enough. But, just note that there's always someone who'll support you."
Tubbo advises, seeing Tommy drop his head with embarrassment.
"Well, I asked for advice not a story but thanks Tubbo. And I'll fulfil this legacy hopefully soon."
Tommy says teasingly, wanting to challenge the stars.
"I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not."
"Am not! Lets be the best warriors out there Tubbo, and prove something."
Tommy stared at the skies. Gods, what will happen to them?
~~~
Tommy and Tubbos current location is under a tree.
Tubbo explained to Tommy that they're only a few minutes away and that they should probably hurry.
"Do you see it yet?"
Tommy asked, not concentrating on what's ahead of him and nearly ran into a tree-branch.
"Do I look tall to you?"
Tubbo glared at Tommy with a playful voice.
"Wow! He finally admits that he's short." Tommy snickered from behind, trying to annoy Tubbo.
"Shaddhup! Besides at least I'm being more productive than you who's barely awake right now."
He replied with a tint of "sass" in his voice.
"Oi! You're the one who woke me up way too early in the morning! And you know I despise mornings."
Tommy whined like a little child.
"Your loss."
"You're such a bitch."
Tubbo smiled and continued to lead the way with Misty.
"Honestly, he's crazy isn't he Spark?"
Spark shook his head while walking, making Tommy slightly annoyed.
"Wow I lost an ally right there."
"Tommy look!"
Tommy grabbed the reigns of the horse and galloped beside Tubbo. The view was stunning.
"Beautiful isn't it!"
Tubbo exclaimed, admiring the village.
"The sun is just starting to rise!"
Tommy complained on how early they left. He contemplated on how much sleep he could've had.
"Lovely isn't it? Let's try stay here for a bit..?" Tommy groaned again while Tubbo again led the way.
Tommy observed what's going on, people just leaving homes getting ready to leave or some with pickaxes heading towards the forest.
Small children can already be heard this early, yet it's only a few. Not many shops were open as well. But a somewhat warm feeling bubbled inside of him, and the locals were already buzzing.
"How..?"
"Asheville is known for their energy, it's a popular place to stay instead of staying in busy cities. Most people here are children so don't be mean Tommy."
Tubbo explains.
After a few minutes just wandering around the village, Tommy noticed there were more people than before. And more energetic children.
This led to them getting more attention, a couple of looks and small waves from the children who thought were travellers just passing by.
"Tommy this place looks alright."
Tubbo waved back at the children who were trying to get their attention.
"I don't think an attack will happen here, maybe I was wrong?"
Tubbo slightly frowns, but Tommy thought better.
He looked around the area, the aura he was sensing was indeed happy and peaceful, yet he felt so uneasy for some reason.
"Tommy?"
Tommy snapped back to reality when Tubbo gave a small wave in front of his face.
"Y..yeah. Let's stay here..a bit longer, patrol I guess."
Tommy replies, slightly awkward when some adults passed with a way too nice smile plastered on them.
"Very considerate for you Mr.Innit."
Tommy watched as Tubbo approached the small group of kids who were a little too energetic for his liking, better to stay away from those goblins.
"Tommy!"
He saw Tubbo waving him over, he noticed that the little kids had small items in their hands, Tommy immediately knew where this was going. Tubbo was already running up to him.
"No-"
"Too late!"
Tubbo grabbed his wrist and dragged him over to the small group of children.
Each had excited looks and them holding a toy or accessory. Tommy gave a quick smile to them, the children began to bicker with one another, saying who'll go first.
Tommy knowing this will go on forever, he crouched down to a small ones height.
"Hey there."
The small one had an excited yet goofy look on his face and immediately started blabbering on what Tubbo had told them.
Tommy wanting to end this quick enough decided to make the move instead.
He took out his hand and offered to see hopefully the future, he has been training for a while so he hopes it'll make up for it.
She gave a small stuffed toy to Tommy. He stood yup and closed his eyes.
The children watched in satisfaction while Tubbo stood there, a little worried about Tommy's facial expression, shock.
Tubbo obviously thought he's overreacting but it soon ended with Tommy giving the child back his toy.
"What's the future of it?!"
Tommy looked away from the child but patted her shoulder.
"Keep it safe for me..promise?"
"Pwromise?!"
She giggled at the end and followed her friends who were running to play.
Tommy watched them run and looked back to Tubbo. "We're staying for a bit longer."
"Why? It's...well I can't tell but it's getting cloudy."
Tommy excused, Tubbo cocked an eyebrow at him.
Tommy stayed silent which struck a bell for Tubbo.
"Tommy..is something going to happen to this village?"
Tommy shifted uncomfortably while Tubbo took a step closer towards his friend.
"I may be wrong...-"
"Tommy."
He stared deeply into Tommy's eyes that was full of worry.
"If you want to be a warrior, then this is the stuff that they go through."
"Look, let's head back to where Misty and Spark is. They're probably worried."
Tommy avoided the statement which made Tubbo more frustrated than he already was.
He chased after Tommy, he wonders what Tommy actually saw in his "vision".
~~~
Tubbo was quietly picking flowers in the forest, with Spark, Misty and Tommy. Tommy wasn't picking flowers since he wanted to play lookout.
"Tubbo!"
He heard Tommy call him who was standing on a high tree branch.
Tubbo picked up his worried voice and dropped the flowers.
He climbed the tree quickly and stood on the same branch as Tommy.
"..fire?"
"And look up..."
Tommy pointed to a shadowy flying thing up in the sky. Tubbo gasped slightly and looked down at Spark and Misty. The two animals seemed to realise this as well.
"We gotta move."
Tubbo climbed down the tree while Tommy jumped off, somehow landing safely.
Tubbo rode on Misty, Tommy behind his back and Spark running along with them, sniffing the air.
The scene was...dreadful.
Fire.
People screaming, crying and running.
Buildings burning, arrows flying through the air, swords can be heard and shouts.
Tommy ran through all of this to the main square, Spark and Misty soon followed as well as Tubbo.
"T..Tommy!" Tubbo ran through the smoke while coughing.
Tommy seemed to be unfazed by this. Tubbo stood beside him and saw the real scene.
The main square had been burnt to the ground. Tubbo followed Tommy's eyes to bodies on the ground.
"Tommy?"
Tommy's eyes were, filled with sorrow and regret.
Tubbo wanted to drag Tommy out but the amount of smoke was making him cough more.
Tubbo felt a little drowsy, but what feared him was the dragon that just had to stand in front of them.
With no hesitation, the blonde scooped up Tubbo and ran.
Tommy noticed Misty and Spark helping nearby villagers by escorting them to a nearby lake.
"Misty, Tubbo."
He aided Tubbo onto Misty back who was about to gallop to the lake as well.
Tubbo was too exhausted to tell his friend that he shouldn't do this alone.
But before he could, Tommy ran back into the burning village.
—————
Tommy continued to run, the wind pushing against him from the dragons wings, is this the Ender Dragon?
Tommy looked up at the dark clouds hovering above them and the dragon flying, as if it were enjoying its evil doing.
Tommy clenched his hands angrily, curling it into a fist, he slammed it hard agains the soft earth beneath him.
'Why? Why am I such a loser?! Can I even do this fucking quest at this point?! I'm so weak, so useless, so..so, so useless!!'
Negative thoughts flooded him, overwhelmed him even.
He has been...feeling this a lot lately, it's so confusing to him. How can a strong person on the outside be so weak on the inside?
Tommy didn't even realise that he had spent minutes in his head and tears starting to pour out slowly.
Tommy was crying.
He shook his head in denial, he needs answers from the source.
Tommy was staring at the fire and gas that was still at the sky, dancing with the dragon.
Tommy was about to chase the dragon until a hand firmly gripped his forearm.
Tubbo.
"How..?"
Tommy stared at Tubbo who tightened his grip slightly on Tommy.
"No. I know how to save more people."
"What?"
"Tethoris."
Tubbo coughs slightly, but still gave a determined look.
"Like right now?!"
Tommy asked, staring at the dragon who was starting to fly away from the village.
"Yeah, the Dragon will probably aim for the capital of Syldavia, Tethoris."
Tubbo explained, still looking at the village sadly.
"B...but. We'll be too late if we get there-"
Tubbo shook his head and smiled at Tommy.
"Not if we leave now."
Tommy scoffed at Tubbo, staring at the ash that covered his face.
"Tubbo you're in terrible condition I don't think-"
"Then leave without me."
Tubbo replies, coughing once more but the smoke and fire had started to die down.
"..what the fuck did you just say."
