•26• Good Luck Boy {Part One}

Im going to keep my chapters as appropriate as I can; meaning I won't be including swearing - as much.
***

It's been two months since Jake's eight year death anniversary. Everyone likes to call it my 'depressive state' as none of them, except Liam, actually know what happened.

Also, just last month was Liam's birthday so now he is older than me and is continuously teasing me about it. I'm going to be 15 on August 12th which seems like forever away.

That means I'm fourth oldest in the Dunping Ground as Sapphire is going to be 16 soon and Frank was 15 before Liam. I'm still 14 from the three.

Forgot to mention, but Liam, Frank and I have been excluded from school, due to an 'accidental incident'. It wasn't really my fault; actually it was.

Liam and Frank dared me to graffiti the boys and girls toilet with, 'Will you marry me?"
I don't know why but it was definitely their idea, not mine.

So the graffitiing part went okay? At first I didn't know how to open the can so I had to call Frank and Liam. They didn't mind as they were outside school on watch out.

But it was a bad thing to let them inside instead of keeping watch...

When Mr Muscles aka Frank, opened the can; I finally got to work. Bearing in mind it was at 10pm, I was too tired for graffitiing so I rushed it and kept on screeching when I got pissed.

How was I supposed to know what teachers go home at? I thought they went home at like 5pm or 6pm at the latest. But the headteacher, Mr Bell, decided he had extra work to do so he might as well stay at school.

Long story short, he caught us and we were forced to wash the spray paint off and had grumpy Mike and Gina pick us up. We were also excluded.

We did get grounded but this happened a few months ago so we ain't grounded anymore.

(School won't be mentioned at all because cba😂🙄 So enjoy my shitty excuse of them getting excluded lol)

Anyways, back to the present day. I'm currently screaming at the emptiness because no one is answering the fricking phone. It has been continuously ringing but not of the care workers seem to be bothered.

Tracy is currently taking driving lessons from Cam which seems to be failing horribly. Mike, Gina, Liam and Frank are 'supporting' her. More like teasing her about her terrible driving. Last time, I went to 'support' her but I nearly got run over by the car instead!

The phone continues on ringing for what it seems like a thousand years when its only 10 seconds.

I was getting frustrated so I decided that someone; not me, should answer the phone.

We're normally not allowed to answer the phone but today is an exception. Don't tell Mike or Gina though.

"Tobyyyyy, answer the fudging phone call," I screached.

I looked at Toby who was right in front of me and smirked at him. He looked at me confused and then looked towards the office.

"But your right near it," he whined.

I noticed that he was correct so I had to change his statement around a little.

I pursed my lips trying to think of my response,
"You're closer though."

I moved away as I said the statement and then grinned. He sighs loudly and then sulks over to the office. I follow shortly behind, too lazy to actually pick up the phone and get into trouble.

We enter the office quickly and the call soon goes into voice mail. A woman's voice is heard loud and clear. She sounds as if she's said the sentence at least a hundred times as the emotion is drained out of it.

"Congratulationnss! You could be the lucky winner of a fabulous free family holiday in,"

Toby snatches the phone before I reached to grab it,

"Florida. To win this fabulous free holiday, please confirm that you are over eighteen,"
The woman falsely said.

I look at Toby and nod my head, indicating him to say yes. He looks at me and shakes his head before stuttering,
"Uhmm, wellll..."

A beep, sort of like a confirmation beep buzzes and then the woman speaks,

"Thank you!"

I pump my hand up in the air, joyful and excited that we might actually be able to go on holiday.

I heard creaking behind me so I turn around and I see Johnny. I shake my head at him, telling him to go but he doesn't notice me.

"What's going on?" Johnny leans forward, curious to know what was happening.

Toby place his hand on the microphone embedded in the phone and turns to face Johnny,

"I'm winning a holiday!" Toby smiles.

I raise my eyebrows at Toby, trying to help him notice his mistake. It was my idea to answer the phone, at least give me a little bit of credit.

He coughs innocently,
"I mean, Crystal and I are winning a holiday."

I grinned, happy with his response. We then turn towards the phone when we hear the women speak again.

"Put it on speaker," I mouthed.

Toby nods and does as he is told. He places the phone on the table and we listen carefully.

"To win this fabulous holiday, please answer the following questions. What place is known as the sunshine state?"

We look at each other puzzled and Toby spoke what was on all three of our minds;

"What's the sunshine state?"

"Uhm. Happiness!" Johnny perked.

"Noo! Something else, something erm, erm..." I stuttered, racking my brain for ideas.

Toby eventually understood the question so he grabbed the phone,
"Florida!"

I feel stupid now that I didn't think of Florida. Obviously Florida is the sunshine state!

We waited a second in silence before we heard another beef of confirmation.

"Correctttt!"

We looked at each other and simultaneously shrieked,
"Yesssss!"

Toby and Johnny high fived whilst I was jumping in the air like a lunatic.

"Okay, second question! What opens doors in Florida?" The woman cheered.

I looked down at the floor, sighing. I knew this was too good to be true. This question is too hard for us. Toby sits down on the chair whilst I sit down, cross-legged on the floor.

Johnny had better ideas then sulking like me and Toby, so he ran out.

A few minutes later, he zooms back in with Liam and Frank hot on his tail. They both looked curious to know what is going on. Frank looked quite impatient as he kept on tapping his foot.

"Battering Rams," He cheesed.

"Not, Battering Rams! Something else," I said.

Johnny and Toby were both stuttering, trying to think of something.

"Door knobs?" Johnny quizzed.

I mentally laughed and then continued thinking.

"Keys," Toby grinned.

I nodded at him and he immediately spoke into the phone,
"The Florida keys!"

We heard another beep and I threw my hands in the air, happy. I look behind to see Frank and Liam, looking quite confused.

"Correct! This is your third final question,"

I couldn't hear anything else due to Johnny's tiny scream as Liam scared him.

"He's winning a holiday in Florida," Johnny immediately said.

I glared at him, furiously. What if that was one of the care workers, I mentally thought. This is the problem with other care kids; they snitch as soon as someone catches you in the act.

Liam turns around and grins mischievously at Frank.

"You are one step away from your dream holiday."

The woman continued on talking but we were too distracted when we heard a door close. Probably Mike and Gina, I thought.

I look at the boys and mouthed, "Go!"

We all rushed out by the door on the right as Mike and Gina were coming from the door on the left.

"Did you speak to Rob about Lily's first supervised visit?" I heard Gina say.

I immediately glared at the floor as Lily is lucky enough to at least visit her siblings. Whereas, talking to Josh for me, would put us in grave danger.

Talking about Josh is quite upsetting, but I'm glad to know that he is still alive. I can't say the same about my other siblings unfortunately...

"I'll call him now," Was the last thing I heard as we ran away rapidly.

Liam was leading us to the cramped toy cupboard. We all go in and the atmosphere was hot and stuffy. Frank hit me in the face which resulted in a cat fight. We were distracted from our little fight when Toby interrupted us.

"Close it. Close it!" Toby shrieked.

I turn the door knobs sign to 'Do not disturb' before letting Frank close the door.

I tell Toby to put the phone back on speaker as he turned it off when he heard Mike and Gina talking.

He clicks the speaker button before letting us listen.

"What reptile is found in the Florida keys for over two hundred million years?" The woman asked.

That question is quite difficult as I don't know much about Florida and about archeology.

Liam fidgets around, poking me in the face by the process,
"It's dinosaurs!"

"Squirrels," Johnny whispers at the same time as Liam.

I laugh at Johnny's suggestion and shrug at Liam's as I knew they were both wrong.

"Alligator," Frank said but no one seemed to hear him except for me.

I told him to speak louder and he nodded. But no one heard him due to the arguing between the two boys. I told Frank to try again.

"Alligator!" He spoke even louder.

Toby shushes us all before resuming his conversation with the woman,

"A-Alligator?"

Yet another beep went and we all held our breath from screaming.

"Congratulations, you have now won a fabulous family holiday in Florida. Please hold for one of our Sun Screen Representers."

All the boys were too busy celebrating to even realise that the woman was still talking.

"My luck has finally changed!" Toby smiled while holding the phone, close to his stomach.

I zoned out for a while, thinking about how this is a bad idea. This is going to bite us in the back soon.

"T---O---B---Y," Toby spelled out into the phone.

"Aww, bless him; he's learnt how to spell his own name," Liam joked.

Toby glared at him and I smacked him on the head, playfully. We all laugh and we hear the woman speak,

"Well Toby, you've won a free holiday for you and your family," The woman said calmly.

Toby looked a bit pale and worried,

"Uhm, do we have to be a family?"

"Well, we do specialise in family holidays.." The woman trailed off.

Liam looks at Toby confused before grabbing the phone,
"Oh that's good because we're a big family!"

Toby snatches the phone back and gives Liam a cold stare,
"Sorry, that was my brother."

He emphasised brother and looked at Liam.

"So when can our local representer, Terrie Fender visit your home to get your family details?"

"Oh, today would be nice, any time today. It doesn't really matter," Liam said by snatching the phone of Toby again.

The woman agrees to visit us today and bids her farewells. I got tired of the boys so I decided to go off to my room and take a long, deserved nap.
