Chapter 33: Targeted
Nighttime was..interesting. Daytime was for napping and teasing your buddies. It was when you stole bits of adriens lunch and shut his whining up with Camembert.
It was for catching Marinette whenever she tripped.
It was for making fun of Alya and punching her arm.
It was for teasing nino by not saying his name right.
Harmless, just being a normal teenager.
But now, it was different. This was a side of you that made your behavior during the day understandable.
It was 1 AM after your bold decision to go back out as Spider-Man. and after hopping around while invisible, you had found a drug deal going on. You watched over the situation in amusement, seeing the exchange between the cliche hooded figure and twitchy addict.
You smiled to yourself, extending your wrist and taking a shot right at the buyers arm. It sent him flying to the wall, stuck and unable to get it off. You shot at the other as well, making him stuck and unable to get out. You made sure to get one on the mouth, too.
The seller immediately took off running at the unexpected sight, and you were quick to pursue on the rooftops.
He wasn't that fast, at least compared to you he wasn't. Your eyes sharply stayed on his form despite the twists and turns he took, at one point spotting the next corner. It was the only way he was going to turn.
You decided to amp up your run and as soon as he turned the corner into a tight spaced alley, you were quick to jump down and lunge at him. Your bodies collided, and your invisibility fell on impact. The sound of scattered plastic baggies full of goods scraped against the dirty cement.
At this point, you were fine with being exposed. You had more important things to worry about at the moment.
The man, who you had held under your legs in a harsh clamp, grunted beneath you.
He kicked and thrashed, even attempting to punch at you. He missed the entire time, letting you stare down in boredom.
You harshly grasped both his hands with only one of your hands and used the other to shoot a web, sticking his wrists together.
You stood up and grabbed him from the hood, making him face you. He was blabbering crazy threats, and you shushed him.
"Unless you want one on your mouth, I suggest you shut up and listen up" you stated, making the dealer, despite being tied up, scoff.
"You're the invisible guy, right? The one the bug and black cat sent. What're you gonna do, deeviliize me?" He spat, and you grabbed his throat, giving it a firm squeeze.
"Im independent, don't associate me with them. now quit being a smartass" your grip got tighter as his legs kicked and arms weakly flailing at his neck.
You weren't that harsh, so you let go. His body immediately crumpled to the floor, where he wheezed for breath.
You crouched down and grabbed a fistful of his hoodie, pulling his head up to face you.
"So, know anything that's been going on? Because I've got a gut feeling that something isn't right that those two 'hero's' don't know about" the man, who was still catching his breath, gave a confused look.
"Look man, I-I dont know! I don't work with the big shots around here, but there could be people who know" he frantically answered. You rose a brow.
"How do I know you're not lying?" You questioned, and the man glared, "take it as you will you paranoid prick" you didn't react, inhaling quietly. your patience was..not doing well.
You were going to get complete cooperation or this was about to get ugly.
"i'm going to pretend I never heard that" you replied dismissively.
"Though I could take some drastic measures" you clamped your hand around his neck again, harshly pushing him into the dirty wall behind him. The man grunted, and you let go.
"Damn, fine! there's this dude stirring up trouble on the streets. He's recruiting guys but I'm just a dealer! I ain't hurting people" this satisfied you a smidge. You got at least an idea of what was happening.
Or at least you hoped it was the right idea.
"How would you know that? You wouldn't know unless someone told you" you continued to push. That seemed to make the man panic, and you could tell when he started speaking defensively.
"It's just what got around! You're trying so hard and for what? No one even knows who you are" he insulted again, and you didn't take this one to heart. You were trying hard- but that was because there was an actual cause to try for.
"Tell me who you heard it come from, I want names and addresses" you countered, and the man, about to have another outburst, was interrupted by you once again, "if you don't give either in five seconds I can just turn you in right now. Your client back there can stick around"
And it started. The fumbling of his words and a negotiation, "what-? Listen dude- cmon man we can talk this out"
Either he really was a liar or really didn't know much. You demanded one more time after realizing those two odds.
"Tell me who's in on this. Groups. People"
"I don't know!" he replied, voice tired.
"Are you sure?" you tried asking one more time.
"I already told you I don't know!"
You sighed. Guess that was enough for the day, especially if the guy was already scared to death and still giving no answer. but you got something.
Crime is purposefully being stirred up, and for what reason? What's the motive?
You quickly got up and gathered the plastic bags of all different kinds of drugs, carelessly shoving them into the dealers chest and then shooting a web to stick them on.
The bearded mans eyes shot wide open, starting to get up, but you casually grabbed him by the arm and dragged him up the alley wall. He yelled in protest, in panic, but you didn't care.
His thrashing though admittedly made it harder to climb and drag deadweight, since you could drop him- but you managed to get onto the rooftop, turning around to use your other arm to pull the criminal on with you.
"hey hey hey! I told you everything and you're ratting me out?!" he asked in shock, and you nodded casually.
"yup, why would I let a drug dealer run loose anyway?" you asked, not even looking at him. your head was swiveling in all directions to spot a police station.
You saw a few tall apartment buildings, marinettes parents bakery, some stores, the school..
And from the corner of your eye you finally spotted a station, which looked like any other building but taller and a loooot of windows.
You turned back to the man pathetically sat on the floor, trying to rip the webs off his hands by pulling his arms apart.
You stared in boredom for a few seconds, looking down on him like a mother waiting for their child to calm down from a temper tantrum.
"Are you done yet?" you asked with crossed arms, and he completely ignored the question, looking up at you with a frantic look in his eyes. He was desperate now, brows furrowed and cheeks a stubborn red.
Probably from all the struggling.
"Please just let me go man i'll never say a word I swear! just pretend you never saw me!" he got on his knees, pleading for mercy.
"i'm turning you in, you don't have anything useful to offer me"
"Yes! Yes, I do, I-I know they're coming after you! Don't turn me in man, I can help you!" You rose a brow curiously, looking into his bloodshot eyes.
He knew this information. He didn't tell you earlier either, which meant he wasn't trustworthy anyway.
Pathetic.
"I bet you think I'm an idiot. Nice one, asshole" you dragged him along with your one arm, jumping with him over another another few rooftops. He wasn't light by any means.
Your arm was starting to ache with the constant deadlift of a middle aged man.
It was especially annoying hearing him beg, and even start thrashing again. He was getting on all your nerves.
You were so thankful by the time you stopped on the police station rooftop.
You still had your hand tightly holding his bicep, looking down to face him.
"You never mentioned they were after me. You're a liar, so shut up and let me take you to jail without you trying to kill us both!" you barked down at him, giving his body a shake with a clenched fistful of his coat.
Once you let go his face was a pale sheet, like he saw the poltergeist strangle his family.
Of course instead being a weirdly intimidating spiderling.
"No no wait!" He begged, but you ignored it. You took a breath and let invisibility take over, making him freak out even further.
You threw the man over your shoulders, and that's when he purposely started to struggle. You almost toppled over with the uneven balance, but he was going to jail so it was understandable.
You would've let it slide too if it wasn't for the kick he gave your side, making you bend and almost drop him. You clenched your jaw tightly.
A familiar electricity buzzed up your arm, all the way to your fingertips, and you shocked the mans arms, making his squirm and jolt.
He went limp after a sudden spasm, groaning and hissing in pain. You didn't intend to activate your odd power- in fact it kind of activated itself.
Your emotions seemed to get you a bit too carried away, but at least he didn't move anymore.
You took the grown man off your shoulder silently and dragged him across the dirty floor with both arms this time. You turned the corner to the front of the police station and put him right in front of the door, giving a loud knock on the glass.
you were very careful not to put much effort into it or else it would-
A crack suddenly sounded from the window, the vein of jagged lines suddenly forming. Your eyes widened.
Okay that wasn't supposed to happen, in fact, this was exactly what you tried avoiding!
'I blame the prick that kicked me! nope i didn't do that!' you thought, backing away from the scene.
You had to go back, and you were just about to, but seeing that dazed drug dealer just sat on the floor made you snicker.
You crept back in front of him a final time.
"Bye, don't drop the soap" you whispered sarcastically, backing away and bolting it with your webs. You heard his distant yells through the sound of the wind, the words all slurred and almost drunk like.
"THEYLL FIND YOU! DONT THINK THEY WONT KILL YOU AFTER I TELL THEM EVERYTHING!"
The aggression in his voice was no doubt spine chilling, but you continued your run against the ache on your side.
You're in trouble now.
You're being targeted.
What a way to kick off your career.
