Izuku slowly opened his eyes and softly groaned. He looked down at his chest and noticed Yoru curled up on top of him. He lifted his hand and stroked the cat's sleek black fur. Yoru lifted his head and looked straight at Izuku. The greenette whistled a greeting before carefully sitting up and moving the cat from his chest.
Because of the villain attack the day before, classes were canceled. It was meant to be spent as a day to calm down, reassure our families, and rest easy. But Izuku couldn't rest easy at all. He woke up twice in the night from horrible nightmares- worse than he ever had before. They were both about the events that occurred at USJ.
The first was of Aizawa being beaten by the Nomu, his head being slammed into the broken concrete floor, his weak body being crushed by Nomu's weight, and his limbs being torn off. Crimson blood spilled from the limp body almost comically and Izuku was frozen in place and couldn't move.
He had woken up in a cold sweat after that, his breathing ragged. Izuku had to force himself to sleep an hour later and the seriously regretted it afterward.
The second nightmare was of Mineta's death replayed but more graphically. His screams echoed around the empty black space and the decayed flakes of his skin slowly fell from the sky and gathered on the floor. Before Mineta's face completely disintegrated, he looked over at Izuku and mouthed,
"Why didn't you save me?"
(lol I'm bad at making up nightmares- I'll do better in the future- wink wonk)
Izuku shook his head swiftly and slapped his cheeks a few times. He picked up his cat, put him on his shoulder, and left his room.
His mom was in the kitchen making some breakfast. Izuku walked over to help her and she gratefully accepted the extra paid of hands.
"Good morning, Izu! Hope you had a good sleep," His mother smiled.
Izuku nodded hesitantly. He didn't want to worry her with his troubles.
"Could you set up the table? I'm almost done over here," She asked as she turned down the stove's flames.
Izuku nodded again and went to the cabinets. He took out two plates and two sets of utensils and set them on the wooden table. Then he got two cups and filled them with orange juice. When he turned back to the table, he noticed his mom setting the food on the empty plates. It was a simple and classic breakfast- eggs and bacon with some toast and jam. Izuku smiled and helped her with the rest before they both sat down to eat.
"Itadakimasu!" Izuku's mom said as she held her chopsticks in her hands. Izuku bowed his head slightly and they both began to eat.
As Izuku shoveled rice in his mouth, he looked over at Yoru who had jumped off his shoulder. The cat walked over into the living room and to the hallway, turning towards the door. A loud meow was heard.
Izuku shoved the rest of his breakfast in his mouth and swallowed. 'I think Yoru wants to go out,' He signed. 'Could I take him to the park?'
His mother looked up, reading his words. "Sure," She nodded finally. "Just come back home by lunch."
Izuku nodded and they both stood to clean the table. When they were done, Izuku went to his room to change into something more appealing. He slipped out of his green sweat pants and All Might tee and into a dark blue hoodie and black shorts. He left his room and went to the front door, putting on his usual red high tops.
Yoru was already at the door, his tail waving around impatiently. Izuku grabbed his phone and waved his mom goodbye before opening the door. The black cat was out first and started for the stairs. Izuku let him be. He trusted Yoru not to run away and get lost.
The both of them went to the park quite a bit. Yoru knew where to go immediately and Izuku followed behind quietly. A few moments later, they saw the green foliage of the public park up ahead.
Kids were running around and playing while their parents were sitting down and watching. Some families were having picnics and laughter rung in the air. Izuku smiled softly and watched as Yoru ran to a tree and started climbing up it.
Izuku walked over to a small ice cream stand and the vendor smiled at him before giving him a cone of mint chocolate chip. Izuku was sort of a regular at the stand. Every time he brought Yoru to the park, he'd get some ice cream from the stand. The greenette smiled back at the man and paid him, as well as dropping a few dollars into the tip jar. He waved goodbye and went towards a quiet bench.
Trees surrounded him and the wind in the leaves jostled lightly. Sunlight broke through the gaps overhead and birds chirped in the branches. The boy always like nature, and he was upset that he couldn't spend time in it more.
Izuku licked at his ice cream and took out his phone, scrolling through a news app.
There were titles like "Mount Lady Helps In the Arrest of a Notorious Villain Gang in Kyoto" and "Gunhead and His Sidekicks, Loud!Sound and Kanine, Capture Double Dice and Slice". Izuku continued scrolling down and licking his ice cream, occasionally stopping to read some articles. He didn't notice Yoru coming up to him and licking his ice cream a few times.
Izuku spun around when he felt the small paws on his lap and he glared at the cat who seemed to be eating the ice cream smugly. Yoru stuck out his tongue in a seemingly teasing manner.
The cat settled beside him as Izuku let out a huff of air and turned back to his phone. It was quiet for a few minutes before a tired voice startled Izuku.
"Mind if I sit here?"
Izuku turned to the person. He had purple gravity defying hair and dark narrowed eyes. There were bags under his eyes that were dark enough to rival Izuku's own.
The greenette realized he was staring and hastily nodded to the other's question. He heard a small "thanks" and went back to scrolling through his phone and finishing off his ice cream.
The same broke his train of thought. "Um.. Nice cat.. Could I pet it..?"
Izuku looked over at the purple haired boy who seemed to be around the same age as him. He was staring at Yoru with a sort of soft look in his tired eyes. Again, Izuku nodded and the guy smiled.
He lifted his hand and gently combed Yoru's black coat with his fingers. The cat purred and leaned into his touch. Izuku's eyes widened a bit.
"I've never seen him take to someone so quickly."
He started petting behind Yoru's ears and the cat purred again. "What's it's name?" The guy asked.
Izuku turned to his phone and started typing before showing the purple haired teen the screen.
'He's a him. And his name is Yoru.'
The boy raised a brow but didn't question him. "That so? Well, it's a good name- I see why you chose it."
Izuku nodded.
"Also, if it makes it easier for you... I- uh.. know sign language?" he said sheepishly, his other hand scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
Izuku looked at him in surprise. He set his phone down on the bench and lifted his hands. 'You do?'
He earned a nod in response. "I used to be a little mute back when I was younger so I... uh, learned sign language."
Izuku grinned a little bit. It really was easier for him to sign, rather than type. Their attentions were drawn to an annoyed mewl as Yoru was rubbing his head against the purple haired guy's leg. The guy chuckled a bit and started petting Yoru again.
'Sorry,' Izuku signed timidly. 'He's a bit of an attention seeker.'
He shook his head. "It's fine. I don't mind."
They started talking a bit to get to know each other. Izuku found out that he had two cats of his own, a tabby and a calico. They talked for so long that Izuku didn't realize it was past 12pm until he glance down at his phone. He jumped up in alarm, startling his new friend in the process.
'Sorry, I've got to go. My mom wanted me home by lunch,' He gave an apologetic smile.
"It's fine, I've gotta head home, too," The purple haired teen stood and Izuku noticed how much taller he was than him.
"Nice to meet you, and see you around," He waved as he started walking away.
Izuku waved back and started in the other direction. Yoru had jumped up on his shoulder and nestled his head in the crook of Izuku's neck. Izuku reached over to pet him when he realized something and he facepalmed.
"I didn't even ask what his name was!"
He turned around quickly to see if he was still there. The spot they both once sat at was now empty, not a single person around. Izuku sighed.
"Maybe next time."
I bet you guys can guess who the oh-so mysterious boy is, huh?? ;))
