8| First Fight

Amora walked into the courtyard of Arcadia Oaks High. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jim get shoved into the boy's locker room. Amora rolled her eyes and walked over to her locker. She put away her school books and closed her locker. She sighed and thought, 'Guess it's time to audition. Wish I didn't need to do the stupid play.'

Amora walked down the halls and corridors until she reached the auditorium. She quietly made her way backstage to wait for the girl to finish, and that girl was Claire. As Amora watched Claire do an amazing performance, she heard footsteps behind her.

"Amora, what are you doing here?"

"Auditioning, or at least I was until I decided I really shouldn't, for my own benefit." Amora turned around and saw that Jim had his armor on, completely out in the open.

"Okay, two questions. One, why are you wearing your armor?"

"Stricter caught him in the locker room. His excuse was that this was his costume for the play," Toby answered, rather bluntly.

"There go's my other question," Amora said. She heard yet more footsteps behind her, so she turned around and saw Claire making her way backstage, towards them.

"Hi Amora, Toby, John," Claire said, smiling at all of them.

     "It's Jim," Jim corrected.

"So what are you all doing here?" Claire said, not seeming to care about the way she miss pronounced Jim's name. Something about that really ticked  Amora off.

"What else? Auditioning, or, at least, was auditioning," Amora answered.

"Wow, that costume looks, amazing! Where'd you get it?" Claire asked, completely ignoring Amora and giving all her attention to Jim.

"He didn't buy it, he found a magical amulet that makes it!" Toby said.

Amora was standing slightly behind him, so she kicked him in the shin.

Claire laughed and said, "You're funny."

"Yeah you're a real comedian aren't you?" Jim said, rather irritated.

"Oh, I think that's your cue," Claire said, after the director of the play shouted, "Next!"

"Break a leg, Jim!" Amora said.

Jim walked out and said, "I'd prefer that."

As both Toby and Claire were watching Jim awkwardly stand there on the stage, Amora backed away quietly and made her way outside into the courtyard. She ran to her locker and grabbed all her books. She walked to her bike and put her books into the basket on the back. She put on her helmet and hopped onto her bike, taking off down the road afterwards. She cycled down the roads and down alleyways, reaching her house in a couple minutes.

She wheeled her bike into the garage after hopping off, and removed her books from her basket and walked down the hall to her room. She set her books down onto her bed and ran back out. She didn't bother to take her bike, but she ran out the door and into the forest. She took out her amulet inside her purse and  and muttered the incantation.

"For the Assassin's wishes, darkness is mine to manipulate."

Amora transformed into her assassin clothing and took out her bow. She held the handle in her left hand and drew out an arrow from the quiver on her back. She knocked the arrow to the string and gripped the string with three fingers underneath it. She searched for a target, and spotted a tree with a small dent in it. She raised her bow and pulled back on the string. She pulled it back until her finger touched the corner of her right eye.

"Let fly," Amora said. Her fingers rolled off the string and the arrow flew forwards, cutting through the air. It slammed into the tree, not far from Amora's target.

"Not bad! Let's hope that one day I'll be able to hit dead center." Amora kept practicing, every time getting closer to her target.

When Amora had practiced her shot for a while, she heard someone scream, and it sounded like Jim and Toby.

"What the?" Amora grabbed her arrows and placed them back into her quiver. She dashed to the edge of the forest near the road, and saw Jim and Toby running from a troll.

Amora gripped the hilt of her saxe knife, and thought of something to do. She ran  in the direction the three were running and reached the canal, where Jim was standing on the side and holding up his amulet. The troll was running at him, and Jim had just donned his armor when the troll punched him in the chest, sending him flying across the canal, landing on one knee.

Amora watched nearby as the troll galloped towards Jim. Amora watched as Jim ran from the massive troll in front of him, and watched as the two started to fight.

Jim was knocked to the ground and didn't get up fast enough. The troll raised his sword and began to bring it down onto Jim, and that's when Amora chose to act. She dashed forward in front of Jim and and thrust up both of her knives to form a X shape in the air, blocking the sword from slicing into Jim.

The troll had a look of surprise on it's face, only to be replaced by anger and vengeance. Amora's muscles bulged as she fought to protect Jim and herself.

"Jim, why aren't you getting up right now?! I can't make this last forever!" Jim realise the situation and scrambled to get up. He ran over to where Blinky, Arrrgh, and Toby was.

Amora looked for a way to get out of her little predicament, when the troll lifted his sword and Amora could release her firm hold on the sword.

"Assassin, I would be honored to be in your presence, but you helped the enemy, so I'm sorry to say, you must die!" The troll's voice was deep and slightly raspy, something created from nightmares.

"And I would say the same, but I would never be honored to be in your presence anyways," Amora said, readying her knives for another attack. The troll growled and lunged at her, his sword sweeping in from the side. Amora Jumped and backed up, gradually making her way to the bridge.

"You cannot defeat me! You're but mere humans, children no less!" The troll advanced, holding his weapon to the side.

"Who said I was human?" Amora said, backing off even more.

"You look human, and smell it. I'd be surprised if you weren't." the large troll lunged forward again, this time slicing downwards. Amora jumped to the side and saw took her chance to run underneath the bridge, where some sort of portal like thing was. Before she could make it, however, the portal closed, and Amora stopped right in front of the wall.

"Oh no!" Amora turned around and saw the beast running towards her. She prepared her knives, but something happened, and the amulet suddenly, on no accord, shut off.

"Crap!" The troll stopped and started to throw his swords at Amora. She dodged left and right, and she fell back into the small portal that had appeared.

Amora stood there on the other side of the portal, thinking about what had happened.

"What - who - was that?!"
