6| For The Assassin's Wishes

Amora was sitting at her desk, slowly turning the knob on her microscope to focus on her specimen. The small, piece of K-spar lying on her slide.

"What is a piece of K-spar doing in the canal? A whole pile?" Amora mumbled, switching to 200x magnification.

"Wow. Look at the inner layer! It's slightly blue. And the molecules! These aren't from normal K-spar rocks," Amora said. She looked at the small sample of a turtle shell, the closet thing she had to rock. She got up and grabbed the sample and a cord to connect the microscope to her Macbook. She connected the two together and slid out the slider and put in the slide of the turtle shell. She adjusted the focus and magnification and looked over at her Macbook. She saw the molecules on her computer screen and took a screenshot. She slid in the sample of the
K-spar and did the same thing, so Amora could compare the two samples later. She slid out the samples and put them into a protective case, so she could examine them further more.

"Please work..." Amora mumbled, looking at her computer screen and and pulled up her files. She selected and renamed the screenshots she took and opened them into separate windows, side by side.

"Wow..." Amora breathed, gazing at her computer screen in bewilderment, "These molecules, all have one thing in common. They were both living before! I have to tell Jim!"

Amora unplugged her laptop and turned it off. She grabbed her turquoise backpack and stuffed her Macbook into the pocket for a computer. She zipped up the pocket and threw on the backpack. She grabbed her amulet, phone, and dagger, and put them inside her backpack. She walked out of the bedroom door and grabbed the garage keys from the shelf by the front door. She opened the door connecting the hallway to the garage, and grabbed her bike. She put on her helmet and and hopped onto her bike. She opened the garage door and pushed off, closing the door as she left the garage. She raced towards her school, and parked her bike at the front. She raced over to the outdoor area where the lockers were and over to her locker. There she found Jim and Toby at their own lockers.

"Whoa, Amora, what's so urgent?" Jim asked as Amora ran up to them.

"I, was studying the k-spar that was in the canal with my microscope, and I made a really big breakthrough," Amora replied.

"Then what is it?" Toby asked.

"OK, so, I compared the sample to a sample of a turtle shell I had, and the similarity between them, was, literally unreal. Take a look." Amora took off her backpack and took out her Macbook. She balanced it on one hand and opened up her file explorer. She tried to search up,
"K-sparScreenshot", but insead almost dropped her Macbook.

"Oh, crap!" Amora said, trying to balance the laptop again.

     "Need any help?" Jim asked.

"Yes, thanks. Used to typing with two hands on a solid desk," Amora joked. Jim held out his hands and Amora placed the Macbook on top. She quickly searched up, "K-sparScreenshot", then opened the file. She searched up, "TurtleShellScreenshot", and opened that file. She quickly placed the windows side by side, so she could show the similarity between the two.

"OK, thanks," Amora said, Taking back the laptop and glancing at the screen again, "Look at this." Amora turned around the laptop too show the two images.

"OK, what's so amazing?" Toby asked.

Amora turned a bit so she could point at the molecules. "These molecules are dead, molecules. That means, they used to be alive. They were once blood vessels, but, that is very discolored to the normal dead blood vessel," Amora elaborated.

"Wow. So, what do you think caused the discoloration?" Jim asked.

"I don't know. Possibly different color blood cells?" Amora said. She turned back around and closed her laptop. She stuffed it back into her backpack, zipping it up once again. Just then the school bell rang, signalling first class. The three of them walked down the hall to their first class, talking about the sample. After hours, the school day was finally over, but all Amora's mind was on was the molecules, except when it came to science class.

When Jim, Toby, and Amora were walking over to their bikes, Jim said to Toby, "Tobes, you have to come over tonight. I have to show you something!"

"Alright Jimbo. I'll come over when we get home. What about Amora?"

"I've already seen it. Witnessed it."

"Wait, you told her first?" Toby said.

"You were at the dentist two days in a row! And as she said, she was already there when it happened."

Amora chuckled and hopped on her bike and said, "Still, should I come? I don't mind either way."

"Just go ahead. Maybe the trolls will show up," Jim said, hopping onto his bike and putting on his helmet, Toby doing the same thing. Amora put on her helmet and said, "OK. I'll come over."

The three friends biked over to Jim's house and parked their bikes on the driveway. They went inside and Jim walked into the kitchen.

"OK, Tobes, you'll never believe what I have in show for you!"

Amora was suddenly, almost calling to her, wishing for her to go into the darkness. Amora grabbed it and went outside, saying she was going outside to Jim and Toby before leaving. Amora looked around, then saw three, large rocks, and woods behind it.

"Well, those woods look nice," Amora said, walking over to the rocks and into the woods, into the shadows. She wandered for a second, before she felt the amulet shift in her hands. She held it up and saw the clock like design move. Every time it shifted, the engravings would shift as well, becoming more and more readable by the second. After a few more shifts, the engravings became English words, something Amora could read.

"For the Assassin's wishes, darkness is mine to manipulate?"

For a second nothing happened, then the amulet released an almost fog-like aura around Amora. She was lifted up, and the aura lingered there for a second, then seemed to wrap itself around Amora, creating a dark, fabric substance. It formed into a dark cloak, draping around her shoulders, and holding a thick hood and cowl to cover part of her face. the rest of the dark substance formed into dark brown breaches, and a dark green shirt. It formed into a lace-up, dark brown vest. It formed into dark brown, leather, soft soled shoes. The amulet formed again, put to act as a pin for the cloak. The remaining substance formed around Amora's hand, creating a finger less glove, and formed into a long, wooden longbow. More substance formed and formed into a belt that had two holsters, holding two knives, one larger then the other. The rest of the formed substance formed into and over shoulder quiver, filled with twenty four arrows.

"Oh, my, god..." Amora breathed. She was bewildered at all of this. She was, The Assassin. She held up the bow and examined it.

"Looks like a good draw weight, maybe eighty pounds?" She pulled on the string to test the draw weight. Next, she drew out the two knives in the holsters.

"Looks like one is balanced for throwing, and one for combat." The larger knife was heaver, mostly suited for combat. The other was small and light weight, more suited for throwing.

Amora looked at a nearby tree, and suddenly threw it, sending it spinning, and slicing into the tree. Amora smiled and walked over to pull it out, which she did with ease.

"Alright, I think I may need to un-equip you now. If, I know how," Amora said. She thought, 'Please turn back to normal.' The clothing dissipated and the amulet dropped into Amora's hand.

     "Amora! Where are you?"

Amora heard Jim calling for her. "Coming!" Amora ran back to the backyard, only to see Jim there.

"Jim! This think works! It's awesome!" Amora said, running up to Jim.

     "What works? Your amulet?"

"Yes! It does! And it's like, completely different from yours though, look." Amora handed Jim the amulet so he could read the engravings.

Amora waited for a few seconds while Jim read the words, when he said, "Wow, that is totally different! You'll have to show me later. Right now, you have to come inside."

"Wait, why?" Amora asked as Jim grabbed her arm and pulled her away.

     "We have visitors."
