13| Gnome Hunting

Amora, Jim, and Toby were sitting in the living room of Amora's house. She invited them over when she was at school for a "study session" but they all knew it was to talk about their recent challenges... and study a little.

"So, have you decided Jim?" Toby asked, just as anxious as Amora to know the answer.

"Uh, what?" Jim looked up from his Spanish textbook and Amora laughed a little. She saw Jim grin, a bit embarrassed.

"Have you decided if I'm to go in or you, he means," Amora answered for Toby. She balanced her pin-sized amulet on her finger and looked down at the science essay she was writing. So far she had fifteen hundred words written down... was that enough?

"Oh, yeah!" Jim said, recollecting his thoughts, "Yeah, I have, actually." Amora looked at him expectantly. "I think we should both go in, together. Because it'd be good to have a little practice, and I know Amora would be looking forward to it."

Amora smiled. "Thanks, Jim! It'll be fun..." She mumbled the last part to herself. Looking down at her essay, she sighed, satisfied with her work, and put it on the table in front of her. She leaned back, bored again, and out of habit took her dagger out from her purse, as well as a knife sharpener. Absently, she started sharpening her dagger, getting lost in her thoughts about the warning she recently received; it had been on her mind a lot recently. After a few minutes, she felt someone look at her. Amora looked up to see Jim looking at her with a slightly frightened, slightly confused face.

"Y-you do that normally?" he asked, stuttering slightly.

Amora looked down at the dagger in her hands and her eyes widened in slight surprise, but then calm again. Amora hadn't even known she was doing it. "Yeah, it's a habit for when I get bored." She smiled at the end, then put her dagger back in her purse, "I'm weird like that."

     "You're not weird-"

"No, really Jim. I carry a dagger around in my freaking purse. If that's not weird, I don't know what is."

"Remember when I told you all Trollhunters must start small?" Blinky stepped forward and pulled on a canvas tarp. As the tarp fell, it unveiled what looked like a wardrobe made of gold. It had steam pipes coming out of the top and the simplified face of a troll etched into the front.

Amora raised her eyebrow. "This is the Furgolater? A glorified wardrobe?" Blinky frowned at her remark, his previously excited expression diminished. Amora flinched when Jim elbowed her in the ribs, giving her a look to say 'knock it off'. Amora glared at him for a second before returning her gaze to Blinky and the Furgolater.

"I'm a little worried about how I let you talk me into this," Jim said as Blinky started the machine.

"Just to be clear, Master Jim, both you and the Assassin will be going in together?" Blinky asked, pointing to the two of them. Jim and Amora both nodded. The doors opened and Blinky gestured for the two to get inside. They obliged, both pressed up against the walls.

"Yeah, we really didn't think this through," Amora said and smiled playfully. Jim laughed then looked at Blinky.

"So how exactly will this help us get a gnome out of a hole?" he asked.

"If the gnome won't come out, the Trollhunter must go in," Blinky answered, "Don't worry. We often use the Furgolater to compress minerals. And now, for the andesite!"

"You've done this on humans though, right?" Amora asked, suddenly getting very worried.

"Not exactly," Blinky answered, "But I'm not worried!" The Furgolater started to fill with steam, causing Jim and Amora to cough.

"Blinky, are you sure this is normal?" Amora yelled out between coughs.

"I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, Assassin!" Blinky answered. After a few more seconds of coughing, and what sounded like panicked voices from outside the machine, the shaking stopped. The doors opened, allowing the steam to dissipate. Amora rubbed her eyes and looked around.

"I'm not sure it..." she stopped mid-sentence, suddenly noticing how gigantic their friends had gotten. She looked over a Jim, who looked just a shocked, and small, as she was.

"On the contrary, Assassin," Blinky said and picked her and Jim up, "It worked perfectly." He set both of them down at the entrance of the hole. Toby handed a frustrated looking Jim a rusted pin to act as a shield.

Amora pulled out her amulet and whispered the phrase quietly to herself. Thankfully, the outfit shrunk to her size as well. Amora looked up, tuning into the conversation between Jim and the others.

"... have exams to take! I have sinks to reach!" Jim shouted up at Blinky, clearly upset with his shrunken status.

"And you have a gnome to catch. Now onward Master Jim and Assassin." Begrudgingly, Jim took the 'sword' Toby provided him and walked into the gnome hole, nearly falling over on the first step. Amora followed him.

"Oh, one last thing to know when dealing with a gnome, Master Jim-and this is of dire importance-do not touch it's hat," Blinky warned, "You'll remember?" Jim switched his attention from the multiple rusted objects in the hole and turned to face Blinky.

"Of course not! Nothing in this world makes sense!" Amora watched in silence as Jim walked into an old, creepy doll head. She barely held in her laugh when he turned back around and yelped in surprise. Jim glared at her, clearly noticing she hadn't said anything. Amora only shrugged and continued down the hole cautiously. After a few more seconds of apprehensive walking, the two heard high pitched laughter up ahead.

"Now that... will haunt my nightmares," Jim said. Amora nodded and brandished a dagger. They came up to the end of the tunnel and peered around the corner at the gnome.

"Well, aren't you a big fella," Jim whispered. Amora only looked on, confused. The gnome seemed to be trying to have dinner with the skeleton of a gnome, and it's dining table was Jim's amulet.

Hi! Sorry, I know this is a weird place to end. I'm also sorry for not updating in... I don't even know how long-and really, I have nothing to say for myself. Only that I was getting to a point where I realised all the stuff I had been writing was cringy, and that made me not want to update. But that's a sorry excuse, considering a lot of people like this fan-fiction. So, I plan on updating this, maybe not frequently but a lot more than I have been. And probably along with some other fan-fics, because I really wanna hone my writing skills, and this is a great way to do it. Other than that, and another sorry, I'm gonna leave this chapter off here. I hope you enjoyed, and I will see you all in the next chapter! Bye!

P.S. The first, I guess, part of this chapter was written by me a long time ago. That's why it's a little cringy lol
