Coma Ch. 2
Felix Agreste walked into the classroom, early as usual, and made his way to his seat. As minutes passed, students filtered into the room with noisy chatter and among them was Nino Lahiffe, Felix's friend of sorts, and Alya Cesaire, a close friend of Nino's. As he watched them curiously, Felix noticed that Ayla wasn't as peppy as usual.
Of course she wasn't. Bridgette still wasn't at school, even though it had already been a week. Exactly a week since he last saw her. Alya looked worried, as though she knew something. She was Bridgette's best friend and probably knew more about her current situation. Nino had been comforting Alya since Bridgette hadn't came back and he was usually always seen by her.
Felix was relieved since she wasn't bothering him with her nonsense lately. Though he wouldn't admit that he felt somewhat lonely without her around. The cheerful, bubbly, clumsy girl who was the exact opposite of him, cold, distant, and unsocial. He could actually guess the reason that she wasn't there. Because of him. He had to admit, the way he rejected her was uncivilized and rude of him. He decided that he would attempt to apologize to her when she comes back, though he wouldn't be accepting her feelings.
Nino walked Alya to her seat which was a row behind Felix's and his. After making sure that she would be okay, Nino made his way to his seat beside Felix.
"Dude, Mondays suck," Nino said as he dropped his bag on his desk and plopped himself in his seat.
"I don't see why. It's only school," Felix replied, not once looking up from his book.
"Well, I don't like waking up early," He complained.
Felix was about to comment when Ms Bustier came in and shushed the class. He sighed, taking out his notebooks for the day.
====================
At the end of the school day, Felix was waiting outside for his chauffeur and Natalie when he saw Nino and Alya once again. They were at the front of the stairs, which was easy for him to see from the curb. Alya was staring at her phone and rapidly typing away, while Nino looked relieved. When Felix had a closer look at Alya's face, he noticed that she was smiling and her eyes sparkled.
Felix turned his attention to the front of him when his car pulled over. His chauffeur/bodyguard, Gorilla, got out of the car and opened Felix's door. Felix nodded his thanks and saw Natalie already inside. As he was about to step in, he heard Alya exclaim,
"She's awake!"
Gorilla shut the door before he could hear anything else and they started driving away towards the mansion.
====================
Meanwhile, about an hour ago, all Bridgette could see was black. It was dark and lonely. It was as though all the people in the world had abandoned her. All she was doing was floating around in the nothingness, hoping that someone would help her.
Suddenly, she landed on the floor with a loud thud. Bridgette rubbed her bottom to lessen the pain from the fall. When she looked up, a scene was playing. Although it was somewhat gray, it was more color than black.
A girl who looked exactly like her was showed. No, wait, it was her! Bridgette noticed that she was crying while watching a blond boy in a tux walk to his car. It started raining and she started crying harder.
The scene changed to her walking in the rain and crying. She crossed the road, not noticing that she did so or that the light was still green. Suddenly, two bright lights flashed and a faint horn sounded.
The scene suddenly faded to reveal the same blond boy standing with his back turned to Bridgette. Bridgette took one step forward towards him to see if he could help her, when he suddenly turned around and stared at her. He had cold, gray eyes and an expressionless face. Bridgette was frozen in her spot and felt her heart stop and tears came out of her eyes.
The boy turned around and started walking away. Once he did that, Bridgette regained strength in her limbs and launched off after him.
"Wait!" She shouted as he kept walking.
No matter how fast she ran, she couldn't catch up to his slow pace. It was like she wasn't even moving at all.
"Wait! Please! Come back!" Her voice echoed in the nothingness.
"FELIX!"
Bridgette's eyes flung open and she shot up.
Her room was illuminated by the warm orange lines that came through the half open blinds. The room was empty other than her on the bed, a few tables, and chairs.
Bridgette noticed that she was in a hospital gown and saw that there were bandages wrapped over all of her limbs. She felt one on her forehead as well. Wires and tubes were attached to her arms and connected to machines.
"I probably shouldn't take those off," Bridgette thought.
Suddenly, the door to the room flung open and in came a nurse. She was holding a pen and a notepad and jotting things down on it with a pen. When the nurse looked up, her eyes widened at the sight of Bridgette, who cocked her head in response. The nurse rushed out of the room, leaving a confused Bridgette.
Bridgette just stared at her feet with her back propped up on the wall. A few minutes later, a doctor came in and started asking her questions, all of which she remembered. That's when she was told something that shocked her once she'd consented to hearing the diagnosis.
"You were hit by an oncoming truck and knocked unconscious. You lost a lot of blood. Both arms and legs were broken, and a few ribs broke. You hit your head on the road and received a concussion. Your situation was a "hit and run" as the driver of the vehicle drove off soon after hitting you. Bystanders called the police and here you are now," The doctor explained as he finished writing down things on his clipboard.
Her eyes widened in surprise. How did she not remember any of those?
"I-I don't remember being hit..." Bridgette said.
"Yes, it seems that you've gone through a small case of amnesia," The doctor said as he looked at her.
"A-Amnesia..?!" Bridgette said shocked.
"Yes. You might not gain your memories of whatever you lost back or not. Only time will tell," The doctor said.
Bridgette nodded in response.
"Now, it seems that you'll be able to go home tonight. You healed faster than normal, so it is a bit strange. But try to take it easy. You've been in a coma for a week and your limbs will be a little weak. Your parents are also waiting outside, so if you wish to see them..." He said, waiting for an answer.
"A-Ah, yes. I want to see them," Bridgette said finally.
The doctor nodded and left the room.
The next time the door opened, Sabine Dupain-Cheng and Tom Dupain came into the room. Everything went by in a blur to Bridgette, but to basically sum up their visit, they were relieved that she was awake and okay. They also said that they had contacted Alya and updated her constantly on Bridgette's situation. In fact, while they were waiting outside, Mrs. Dupain-Cheng had texted Alya and told her that she had woken up, in which Alya texted back rapidly in response. She had been told not to tell anyone unless she trusted them.
Her parents asked her if she wanted to tell Alya that she was okay and have her over, but Bridgette politely reclined. She wanted to surprise her tomorrow at school.
Bridgette's parents signed all of the hospital paperwork and they left for their home. Bridgette found out that the whole time that she was unconscious, her parents had closed the bakery and she felt guilty, though her parents told her that there was nothing to worry about.
When Bridgette had first gotten out of bed, she almost collapsed to her knees if not for her father catching her. As she walked up the stairs to her room, she held onto the railing with an iron grip. When she reached the top of the stairs, she opened the trapdoor to her room and was immediately greeted by the fuzzy face of her cat.
"Tikki!" Bridgette exclaimed happily.
She slowly made her way to a chair and started petting her cat as she jumped up onto her lap.
"Oh Tikki. I'm sorry for not being here for a long time," Bridgette apologized to her cat.
Tikki was Bridgette's cat and one of her best friends and was there for her since her childhood. Tikki had white fur and blue eyes, but the unique thing about her was that she had a black spot on her forehead.
Tikki nuzzled into Bridgette and purred. Bridgette continued petting her as she examined her room.
It looked pretty much the same as before she fell into a coma. Her bed was neat and fixed, and her desk was organized and tidy. Her mannequin sat in the corner of her room with the previously designed hat that she made. Her room looked the same as before, but one thing threw her off. Why were there pictures of a boy all over her room? He was even on her computer!
=========================
Felix was dropped off by his chauffeur at the front of the school. He sighed as the cool Tuesday morning air brushed passed him. He started walking towards the school when he suddenly bumped into someone.
"Excuse me, but could you please watc-" Felix started.
As he was speaking, he looked down to see who he was talking to, since he was taller than them, and his eyes widened at the sight. Bridgette Cheng had finally returned to school. And he didn't know if he should feel relieved or disappointed.
"O-Oh! I'm sorry!" The dark haired bluenette squeaked.
She backed away and bowed in apology, the strand of hair on top of her head swishing to and fro.
When she looked up, she looked at Felix with a confused face, which shocked him because by now, she would be all over him.
"Oh, that's right. I rejected her," Felix thought.
"I'm sorry," Bridgette started.
Felix's eyes widened and he felt his heart stop at her next words.
"But are you new here?"
