Chapter 5 ~ Diamond

'Can I make it?' Diamond thought. It was a foggy dawn, there were clouds gathering in the sky, unlike the crystal clear night before.

The black and white Nightwing-Icewing hybrid's heart was pounding. She usually wasn't this skidish, but now she was in the midst of changing times. Dragons were rebelling against their queens. The Nightwings have waged war on the Icewings. Which was very bad news for her.

Apparently the rivalry had not ended at all. The Icewings had attacked and killed a Nightwing Phophet named Husk. It had seemed he was delivering a 'peice' of the phrophecy were 'it' belonged.

Deep in the forest under the trees Diamond had wondered 'A dragon? Or an object?'. She had rested there for the night and got moving as soon as the sun was as up. She was heading for there mysterious, 'Dark Ones' who were supposed to bring order.

And overall peace.

She had assumed the 'Dark Ones' was just a name. That the dragons on the inside were better than this. Not that scary. However it did make her wary.

She had been notified the location of the Dark Ones camp through a Nightwing messanger. Diamond remembered him clearly, dark grey scales with pale green-silver eyes. He was barely a dragonet though. She had liked of how kind he was. That was what made her hope the Drak Ones was more than just a name.

A sudden ray of light made Diamond falter in the air. The Sun had pierced the fog and seemed to aim straight for her eyes. She ducked lower in the sky until the bright light was hazed once more.

The distant calls of birds filled her ears, giving her a sense of relaxation as she flew above the mountains. However the relaxation was short lift.

Something leathery was slipping from her tail. Her brow furrowed as she glanced behind her. Where was her scroll pouch. Her heart skipped a beat as she alarming looked down to see a brown figure falling.

'I knew I should have tightened it.' Diamond dived after it, her blackish gray fade starry wings folded to her sides as she plunged through the fog. But just as the pouch soared within reach something else hit her.

Not in her mind, but something sharp at her side. A rusty metal spear appeared in her vision as it struck her. Diamond let out a surprised roar as she was sent spiraling downwards.

The world flashed in her eyes, she tried flailing her wings for balance, but that only made it worse. The dark greens and grays of the mountain side blocked out the sky until a sturdy branch whipped across her back and she was faced with a tangle of brown twigs scrapping at her wings and sides.

Diamond fell into the forest floor, breathless and dazed. For a moment her vision flickered, as if she would go unconscious, but the cruel world kept her awake and in pain.

The spear, thanks to the branches and trees was lodged further into her side. She coughed and sputtered, trying to get her bearings. A dragon had to have thrown this spear. Right? It couldn't be anything else. Nothing-

Another sound reached her ears, a fast chattering and the swiftness of light steps pattering on the dirt. Diamond twisted her head painfully, wondering who or what was coming to see what they had shot down.

She tried to get up, but the spear in her side still held her painfully in one place. Diamond reached out her powers, trying to read the mind of whoever was coming, but there was nothing. No sound or anything, just the approaching creature.

She held her breath 'Scavengers.' Surely it couldn't be? Scavengers could have possible thrown a spear to catch a dragon up in the sky? And with such accuracy. How could this have happened? It didn't make sense.

Diamond coughed again and froze, seeing the bushes swaying. Out came a lot of Scavengers. More than she had ever seen in one place. Yet she usually didn't seem them, she mostly was in her house, writing on scrolls with ink. That was her job anyways. But everything was changing know. It felt like destiny was calling.

But what happened when destiny was faced with a spear in the side and over twenty scavengers? She didn't want to find out.
