(Rewrite) part 9: Mr. W
The inside of Wario's casino looked like it could only exist inside of his dreams. Almost everything was golden and shining like the sun itself. The sound of roulette wheels spinning and depressed customers shouting that the games are rigged were everywhere, you could not escape it no matter where you went.
''Oh, man. I've never liked this place.'' Shawn said as he stared anxiously at all the people around us. '' There are too many people in here... And they're all screaming...''
''Don't worry Shawn. we won't be here for long,'' Waluigi said as we started moving forward. ''... I hope.''
We were greeted by a lady with long brown hair that was dressed in a tight red dress. ''Hello and welcome to Mr. W's casino. The largest casino in Diamond City! How may I be of service tonight?''
''Pauline, you know it's me.'' Waluigi said. ''You don't have to say the exact same thing every time I walk in here.''
''Sorry, Waluigi, but I don't get paid if I don't greet every customer like that. One complaint about the service and it'll be no dinner on my table tonight.'' She sighed.
''Wow, I didn't know Wario was that cruel,'' Polari whispered to me.
''I assume you want to see Wario.'' She said. ''He's in his office as usual. You know where that is.''
''Thanks, Pauline.'' Waluigi said, grabbed my hand and walked past her with me following close behind. ''Come on, let's get going.''
We all followed him up a pair of stairs, then went left until we arrived at a pair of big fancy wooden doors. Waluigi opened them and we went into a giant room with marble pillars and gold coin statues and... man, was Wario really this rich?!
We stopped in front of a sleek wooden desk. A lot of odd things were placed on it, like a sign saying ''I'm not fat. I'm just so freakin' sexy it overflows.''. There was also a small 1-up figurine, a picture of a garlic and a... baseball bat. Presumably for chasing unwanted people out of his office.
On the other side of the desk, sleeping in his chair, was Wario himself. He was snoring like it was no tomorrow.
''Uhh, should we wake him up?'' I asked, confused about what we should do.
Waluigi grabbed the small 1-up figurine and threw it right at Wario's head. ''Hey, fatass! Wake up!'' He said in a monotone voice.
''Wha?! Whyeeehh... what's happening?'' Wario grumbled as he opened his eyes and got up from his sleeping position in his chair.
He seemed unfazed by being hit in the head, the way he acted when waking up from it seemed like it was a normal thing to happen to him. When he finally sat normally again and saw us, he started to grin.
''Oh, if it isn't my bro and his hot chick! What brings you to my palace of wonder, money, and depression?''
''You can probably guess.'' Waluigi replied, staring away in disgust as Wario abruptly started picking his nose.
''Ah, yes. You need a little help from the big guy because your girl caused the whole police force and royal military to suddenly get off their asses and chase you down.''
''We just need a safe place to stay at, just for a small period of time until we can find some other place.'' Waluigi explained. ''And I know that-''
''Stop it right there,'' Wario commanded. ''I don't want to hear any sappy compliments coming from you. Didn't think you would go that low, bro.''
''Actually, I was going to say that you're so stinking rich that it wouldn't hurt to maybe use some of your coins for something good. And I'm not your brother! How many times do I have to repeat that?''
''Bro, listen, I don't care if you're adopted. It still makes us brothers. And I am using my coins for good things! I once gave a coin to a homeless person.''
''First of all: I wasn't homeless. I had just been kicked out of the arcade a few moments before you saw me. And second: You said that I had to pay you back within a week!''
''That's how I got so flippin' rich in the first place, Wahweegie.''
Waluigi clenched his fist and it started to tremble in anger. ''I can't believe you care more about money than actual people.'' He pointed at me as he stared angrily at Wario. ''She needs to be kept safe from Bowser's claws, she's one of the last princesses that he hasn't gotten ahold of yet! It's our duty to protect her if we want to defeat him!''
''Not gonna help you,'' Wario said and leaned back in his chair with his arms behind his head in a relaxed position. He grinned deviously. ''Because of Bowser, the great mushroom depression has gotten bigger and bigger each year, which means more people spending their money here.''
For once, Wario made me want to punch something in anger. But I contained it within me and just tried to ignore the thought.
''And, you know that I could call the police at any moment, right? I could get you out of here faster than you'd be able to say-''
Suddenly, another door behind Wario swung open, followed by a whiny voice. ''Bubby, are you coming? I've waited at least half-an-hour now!''
It was Mona, she was looking extremely tired and was only dressed in a red bathrobe covering her whole body from the neck to her feet. When she realized that we were there she blushed. ''Oh, hi! I didn't know you were here!''
''Mona, go back to sleep. I'll be with you shortly as soon as I get these people out of here.''
I worriedly looked at Mona, straight into her eyes. I knew she would never let Wario throw us out... right?
''Oh, come on, Wario. Can't you help them?'' She asked.
''Darling, that would mean that the police would track them down and then arrest me for hiding them. Then what would happen to my casino and precious coins?'' He asked.
Mona went up to him with an extremely angry expression. ''Can you not be selfish for even one second?! What the hell is wrong with you?! Your brother and the princess of the cosmos is here begging for help, and you're just going to throw them out like some trash bags?!''
Wario was unfazed by her outrage. ''Sweetums, I'm surprised that we're even having this conversation right now. You know I would never help someone if it meant that I would lose my riches.''
''Fine!'' She said and looked at us with sad eyes. ''Sorry guys... there's not much I can do when mister grumpy-pants has set his mind on something.''
Waluigi grabbed my hand and started dragging me with him. ''Come on, we can find some other place to stay at.''
But I wasn't satisfied with this, oh no. I pulled my hand out of Waluigi's grip angrily and turned around to face Wario. ''You selfish bastard.''
''Come again, sweetie? I didn't hear you.'' Wario smirked.
''You think that just because you have money you can treat other people like shit, even your own brother. How can you live with yourself? How could life even reward you with the riches you have right now? You don't deserve a single coin!''
''Uhh, Rosalina.'' Waluigi carefully said behind me, I ignored him and slowly walked closer to Wario.
''If someone were to rip out your heart they would never succeed because all they would find would be a heart-shaped cracked stone. I really hope that you someday will realize how much of a horrible person you are.''
''Rosalina!'' Waluigi said again a little louder this time, I still ignored him.
''I hope that you lose all your wealth to Bowser, for he would at least appreciate the riches. You're just a human completely empty of emotions and I hope that when you die you'll be punished by the same pain that you have inflicted upon others just because of your love for coins and yourself-''
''ROSALINA!'' Waluigi yelled.
''WHAT?!'' I yelled back and angrily turned my head around to look at him.
My angry expression faded away as I saw Waluigi, Shawn and Polari surrounded by a dark substance that had manifested itself into the floor, changing it so that it had a much darker and purple tinted color. It was magic caused by my anger, trying to suck the energy out of everything it touched. Luckily it hadn't reached them or someone else and Waluigi was just in time to stop it. If I had continued arguing any time longer the magic would've expanded even more and got to them and drained their energy. They were afraid, I could feel it, and I don't blame them, this was the first time they had ever seen me get this angry.
I calmed down, making the magic retreat back to me again. Everybody calmed down. I looked at Wario, his eyes were big and he was angry. Really angry. ''Get out before I call the guards.'' He said in a very dark and cold voice.
I gave him a cold stare before turning around and calmly walking out the office with Waluigi, Shawn and Polari following closely behind. As soon as Waluigi closed the doors after us he put his hand on my shoulder. ''What happened?'' He asked. ''What was that?''
''I'm sorry, I couldn't control myself there for a second.'' I sighed. ''That usually just happens when I get really angry, and then I mean really angry.''
''But, Rosalina, I've never seen that happen before!'' Polari said.
''It's because I am a very calm person in general and if it happens I usually try to hide it by going somewhere else where I can be alone. But Wario got on my nerves and I had a lot of anger built up inside of me. So that's what caused it.''
''What would've happened if we touched it?'' Shawn asked.
I paused for a second. ''Your energy would've been drained to give me more strength. But don't worry, you would've just fainted from it.''
We continued walking down the stairs and towards the exit. But when we were about to go through the doors, Pauline grabbed my arm. I turned around to face her. ''Pauline?'' I said, confused by her actions.
She looked at me worriedly, then released my arm from her grip. ''You didn't get to stay, did you?''
I shook my head, disappointed and sad. ''No...''
She discretely gave me a piece of paper. ''Here, take it.''
I looked at the paper and saw that something was scribbled on it. ''Monty Factory. 37 1-up street. Knock three times. Password: Heroes never die.''
''You're the one who can help this kingdom. Go there. They'll make sure that you're safe.'' She whispered to me.
I was confused but nodded nonetheless. ''Thanks,'' I said. And then went out of the casino together with the others.
''What was that?'' Polari asked me. I looked at the paper again, I noticed that at the bottom of the paper there was a red stamp of a 1-up mushroom with an M in the middle of its front spot. ''I think it's... the resistance.''
