*Michael's POV*
It was the morning after our latest family gathering and I was laying back in Myra's bed, trying to beat a level of Modern Warfare for her that she couldn't get past.
Not everyone can be a pro like me.
"Mike, what do you think about this?" She asked as she stepped out of her small closet with a tight red dress that showed off every curve.
"What's that for?" I gulped as I watched her step towards me, looking into her full length mirror at the other side of the room unsurely.
"Rachel's wrap party for the school play next week. Someone is going to be there that I like and I want to put myself out there a bit," She explained and I couldn't stop my cheeks from heating up slightly.
Myra had beer really shown an interest in anyone in the 13+ years that we'd known each other. It was weird to think of her trying to impress someone, especially in a dress like that.
"I don't know, My. Like are they really worth making yourself feel uncomfortable in that dress," I asked unsure, watching her poke at the tummy that wasn't even visible in the dress. All you could see were curves for days.
"I just think this shows off my good and bad bits," She never met my eyes, too preoccupied looking in the mirror as she poked at her thighs and hips before turning to me with a sigh.
"What 'bad bits'?" I asked in confusion, seeing nothing but my beautiful best friend in front of me. That's right Michael, she's your best friend. Keep it that way.
"Everywhere," She pushed a strand of wavy dark hair from her face.
"You look perfect, ok? Whoever they are will be unable to keep their hands off you," I sighed, pulling her in for a hug as I kneeled up on her bed.
"Hell knows if you weren't my sister from another mister I wouldn't," I winked, causing her to wack me playfully with a small chuckle.
"There's the Myra humour I know and love," I grinned, watching as she made her way back into the closet to change again.
Not a minute later she came out in sweat shorts and a tshirt of mine she had stolen years ago after an improptu water fight at my house.
"Move over Clifford, I have to kick your arse at this one on one," She cried as she landed on top of me in her bed, her controller in her hand as she changed the game settings.
~~~
"Myra! Michael, dinner time!" The sound of Megan's father's voice drifted up the staircase as we paused the game, fighting over who could get to the bottom first.
"Nah mate, shift it," She squeezed herself passed me and to the dinner table, grinning mischievously as she sat down at the table, piling slices of the pizza onto her plate.
"Darling, you eat like a pig," her dad tried to warn her as we began eating and she shrugged, not really caring what he thought.
That was one of the many things I loved about Myra, was that she just did not give a shit what people thought about her. That's what hurt when she was trying on the dress, that for once she was being insecure, and for no reason whatsoever.
"Finish quickly so I can drive you home Michael, don't want your mum having another heart attack like last time," Mr Smith mentioned the time I had came over to their house without telling my mum and staying the whole weekend there. Surely she would realise by now that if I wasn't at home, I was either with Calum or Myra.
I finished up my pizza, once again racing Myra to the car but she had already climbed into the front, smirking at me through the rearview mirror triumphantly as her dad got into the drivers side and started up the engine.
It was a short drive to my house, only about a ten minute walk but Myra's dad didn't like her walking back home by herself after ten o'clock at night, and neither did I.
"I'll see you at school tomorrow Mike," she smiled and waved to me as I got out the car.
"Hey Karen," She was always friendly with my mum, waving to her as our parents began chattering, and before I knew it, they were taking off down the road again.
"I don't understand why you two haven't got together yet, you would be perfect," My mum insisted as we walked into the house and I shook my head at her words, already heading up to my room.
"We never could wreck the friendship we have mum. Aside from Cal, she is my closest friend I'm not going to loose that for a date."
~~~
The next morning I was woken up by someone shaking my shoulder, and I reluctantly opened my eyes to see Myra straddled over me, a cup of water in her hand.
"You wouldn't dare," I warned, before the feeling of icy freshness hit my face and Myra's giggles filled the room.
"Morning Clifford, I'll see you downstairs in ten," She managed through her laughing fit, before skipping out of my room once more.
I quickly got changed into my usual attire of black skinny jeans and w random top, seeing it was the limited edition black Anarbor one that the squad had gotten me for my birthday last year.
I made my way downstairs, smiling at my mum and kissing her on the cheek.
"Where's mine?" Myra was expectantly tapping her cheek as she stood beside me, smirking to herself.
I lent down, going in as though I was going to kiss her cheek only to lick it, causing her to cry out in disgust as she wiped furiously at it with her hoodie sleeve.
"That's what you get for giving me a shower I never asked for," I chuckled, feeling my mum swat my head as she handed me a piece of toast and a my bag, shooing us out the door.
"You two are going to be late if you don't get a wriggle on," She said hastily, and we both called a goodbye to her over our shoulders before climbing into my old banger of a car.
This was how we spent most of our Monday mornings, rushing around and driving to school in my car that shouldn't even be road legal. It was us, and it was the one constant thing in my life, so I wasn't about to go and blow it.
