Ch.13 Love
The door slammed open.
"Get Down On The Ground!"
"Put Your Hands Where I Can See Them!"
Heavily armed men piled into the room. One look at their guns sent Grian's heart racing again. He instantly complied with their demands, as did J and Sam.
"Are you alright, Mr. Johnson?"
Grian turned to see Taurtis sigh in relief. He nodded, "I'm fine."
He moved Dom back so the officers could get closer to Justin. Grian relaxed, but it was short-lived as J groaned next to him.
"There's an ambulance waiting outside and a car for the rest of you."
Two officers picked up J, carrying him out the door.
"Sam, you go with him," Taurtis ordered and Sam didn't need to be told twice.
"Did you call your parents?" Grian asked.
Taurtis shook his head.
They followed an officer out to the SUV that was waiting for them. Once he was sitting snugly between Taurtis and Dom and the door was firmly shut behind them, Grian felt like he could finally breathe. He gasped as Dom pulled him into a heated kiss. Their teeth clashed together as their tongues wrestled. By the time Dom pulled away, Grian was left panting and breathless.
"Are you okay?" Taurtis asked.
Grian nodded. He wasn't the one that got shot.
"J's tough. He'll be fine," Taurtis assured him.
"He's also stubborn," Dom scoffed, "It'll take a lot more than a bullet to the leg to slow him down."
"Dom," Taurtis warned.
"What? I give it two days before he starts trying to walk around like normal."
Grian raised an eyebrow, "Only two?"
Dom nodded, "That's how long it will take for him to convince Sam to stop fretting over him."
Grian rolled his eyes, shaking his head at him, "I can't believe this is how you're acting after everything that's just happened."
"Hey! Don't question my methods of coping."
The rest of the ride was relatively silent. The three were just enjoying each other's company and trying to stay positive. After all, it was only J's leg. How bad could it be? Except even that thought was troubling, wasn't it. How badly was J hurt? Depending on where the bullet hit, he may need a walking cane or other assistance. He could've been slowly bleeding out and they were lucky that he got medical attention when he did. He could be totally fine. It was the not knowing part that was slowly killing Grian, and despite how much they tried to hide it, he knew it was killing the others too.
Dom threw open the door as soon as the car stopped. The hospital staff seemed to be expecting them because a nurse was ready to lead them through to the emergency ward. She led them down the hall and through a few doors before they saw a familiar face.
Sam was curled around a woman Grian immediately recognized as Taurtis's mother, Alice. She was swaying with him in her arms as a doctor spoke to her.
"Mom?" Taurtis's voice made Grian want to sob. He sounded choked up and scared. When Grian turned to him, he reminded him of a little kid who had just woken up from a nightmare and wanted to sleep with his parents.
Alice let go of Sam and gave Taurtis a warm smile, stretching her arms out to him.
Taurtis sprinted toward her, wrapping his arms around her and spinning her around. He set her down, not letting go, and buried his face in her neck. She rubbed his back, humming softly with a smile still on her face.
Dom wrapped an arm around Grian pulling him over to sit on one of the chairs next to Sam, who had pulled his legs up against his chest.
"How did you know?" Taurtis asked, pulling away.
Alice crossed her arms, "Grammie called and told me I should give your principal a call. What she didn't tell me was that I would be needing the entire F.B.I.," she gave him a pointed look, "A call would've been nice. Or even a text. You have a cell phone for a reason."
"I was going to tell you," Taurtis said sheepishly.
Alice waved him off, "Doesn't matter. You're all safe, and that's good. However, your father and I may have had you young, Taurtis, but we're still in our thirties and I'd like to make it through a little more before having a heart attack. The next time a crazy lunatic breaks into your dormitory you have to tell me, okay?"
"Okay. Where is dad?"
"He's with your sister. They didn't tell us why someone broke in, so the whole family's on lockdown."
His eyes went wide, "The whole family?"
She nodded, "Yes, your aunts had to put their 16th annual honeymoon on hold. What did this guy even want?"
"Me," Sam said in a soft voice. He seemed worried about causing so much trouble.
"Well, then it was a necessary precaution. A member of this family was threatened."
Sam blushed at her words, relaxing back against the chair.
"And if your uncle has any say in it, he'll be locked up for good," her eyes glanced over Taurtis's nervous face, "What?"
He shrugged, "I don't know. Aren't I in trouble?"
She tilted her head side to side, debating. "Yes and no. While I am secretly furious that you attempted to keep this from me, I can't really be too mad because I was much worse when I was your age."
Alice's phone started to ring. "Oh, that's your father. I was supposed to call him when I got word on your status."
When she left the doctor turned to them, "J's doing perfectly fine. Luckily the bullet didn't hit anything important and did minimal damage. We're going to keep him here for at least another day to make sure everything is as it should be. One of you can go in and see him."
Sam's head shot up, "Can I go?"
Taurtis nodded and Sam was out of his seat and in the room in record time.
Sam felt a weird rush of guilt and relief flow through him when he looked at J. They had propped him up on the bed with his leg raised and wrapped in a bandage. J smiled at him, patting the spot next to him. Sam hurried over, curling into J's awaiting arms and burying his face in the crook of his neck.
Sam felt a lump of guilt lodge in his throat when J started rubbing his back. J was always trying to make Sam feel better even though Sam was just shattered. He was useless and some days he just couldn't get out of bed. He tried to be happy and forget about everything that had happened, but it never really worked. He was surprised none of the others expected something like this to happen. It wasn't like he didn't still have nightmares every so often and wake up screaming.
Justin had been right through: the first few months away were hell. He didn't know why J had put up with him for so long. Well, he did. He'd known that J had a crush on him about a month in, though he never acted on it, and for that Sam was very thankful. But there were points that he felt selfish about it. It wasn't that he hadn't liked J back, obviously not, it was that he couldn't get Justin out of his head. That is until he met Taurtis, but that was an entirely different story.
When he and J did finally get together, there was really no pomp and circumstance; they just happened. But it was never just Sam and J, only ever Sam, J, Taurtis, and Dom. He had never even really thanked him for all the trouble he went through to keep him safe for this long, and look at where that got him. Now he was hurt and in the hospital because Sam decided to go running and crying to him for help. He was truly pathetic.
"I'm sorry," Sam's voice was so small that his own bunny ears could barely pick it up, but J still heard him just fine.
"This wasn't your fault," J assured him, "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"You got shot because of me."
"And? The alternative would be you lying on this bed in a far worse state. I do it over and over again to keep you safe. You know that," J chuckled, "In fact, I should be the one that's sorry. I promised you that he'd never lay a hand on you again. And I failed."
"You didn't fail," Sam popped his head up, "I'm perfectly fine. And he's... he's gone now."
J expression softened, "How are you feeling?"
Sam took a shaky breath, "I'll be fine. I'm better now that you're okay."
"That's good."
"Taurtis's mom also said that I was part of their family, so that was nice."
J laughed, hugging Sam a little tighter.
"Hey, J?"
"Hmm?"
"Thank you... for not giving up on me," Sam could feel his cheeks heating up, "I love you."
J smiled, the one that wasn't meant to comfort or reassure or be understanding, the happy one, the one that Sam loved. "I love you too."
Sam cupped his cheek and leaned up to press their lips together. Their movements were slow and full of meaning. J tugged his body flush against his own, and Sam wrapped his arms around his neck. It didn't take long for J's tongue to swipe lazily at Sam's bottom lip and for it to dance with his.
A part of Sam would forever be paranoid with the fact that Justin Woods was still alive, even if he was locked up, but he knew that he was safe, and would forever be safe, as long as he had J at his side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey guys, Happy Pride Month! If you've read my other story "He/She" you were probably already familiar with Justin, at least been like, "That sounds familiar." But Sam's story in this book is more like how I wanted "He/She" to go, but I chickened out. Like, in the smut in "He/She" Sam was supposed to have long scars on his inner thighs from Justin, which is why he preferred to be in his female form over his male form (that still doesn't sound correct, but I don't know how else to describe the difference between the two). I switched them to his back in this so that they were easier to hide, and changed that it was Justin's name because I could. Fun fact, Justin was not originally my character, but throughout the many year (I read his story when I was nine) he morphed into my own character, because originally he was just a dick bag. Side note, if I added a smut chapter (because there's only been really one in this entire book and it can't be the Dirty Series with just one smut) where one of them was into BDSM, would you guys be mad?... Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful day, I hope you're all enjoying this story so far (only a few more chapters left 😢), and I'll see you in the next chapter, Bye~!
