Chapter 40

We made a stop in front of a house that Harry took me before. It was the night his group caught me lurking in on them. The night Makayla was here. This was his Aunt's house. Either way, I'm just glad we're away from everything.

My car door was opened from the other side, Harry waiting for me to get out. I did shortly afterwards, having the cool night breeze hit me when I did. It was cold, Harry noticed that. He handed me his coat afterwards before locking the car doors with his key.

"I just need to get something." He explained.

I still didn't say a word, the whole car ride I didn't say a word. It was all thoughts. Thoughts about what happened in there. Either way, I'm glad I left.

Harry's phone rang as we walked up the front entrance of the warehouse. I was relieved after I saw him quickly hang it up. Who knows what they could've wanted this late.

The front door of the house was unlocked and then opened. It's scary how everything looked the same, as if nothing was ever touched. Then I remembered, I never asked about his Aunt. Where was she the night we basically broke in?

I held my thoughts aside as Harry entered the house. I waited for him besides the closed door as he made his way up the house stairs, turning on every light on the way.

It was then my phone rang. I didn't have to wonder who it was because the answer was obvious that was Robert. My finger quickly hit ignore. I bet he wants me to come back or at least know where I am. If it wasn't for his horrible parenting skills, everything could've been going all according to plan.

"What on Earth?" A woman's voice ringed in my ear. I was so concentrated on my anger with Robert that I didn't even notice the front door open besides me.

I backed away immediately, eyes widened as my mouth troubled to speak some words, any words.

The lady had behind her a suitcase and a man. They entered and looked around the place, asking me mount loads of questions that I couldn't seem too answer.

"Aunt Claire!" I heard Harry's voice call out from the top of the stairs with a new object in his hands. He too was in shock.

"Harry?" She was still confused. "Is that you? What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same question." He rose an eyebrow, coming down the stairs to stop in front of the man and woman who now had closed the front door.

"I live here." She stated smartly. "And so did you before you started running away."

"Were you looking for money, son?" The man laughed. "Tell me, what kind of trouble are you in now?"

"I'm not your son.. Ben." He pinned his eyes back at him. "And I wouldn't need your money if it as the last thing I could live on."

"Harry!" His Aunt exclaimed.

I looked over to the man and woman still standing besides me. Their faces didn't seem so friendly, at least the man's.

The woman that I now know as Harry's Aunt Claire turned back to look at me. Face dwelling over my appearance before turning back to her nephew.

"Edward.. If you were thinking about--

"NO!" Harry called out, finishing his flight of stairs. "And stop calling me that! It's not my name."

His Aunt sighed. The Uncle deciding to take place in the conversation.

"Your Aunt asked you a question." He stated.

I saw Harry's jaw tense up, eyes becoming dark as he walked up to his Uncle. Already feeling infuriated, he released his anger.

"My life isn't any of your fucking business so I suggest you stay out of it." He almost growled.

I stood startled as I felt Harry's eyes turn to me. Hand being reached out to grab mine. "Lets go, Leah."

Without hesitation, I quickly grab his hand. It was an awkward moment I was just in. I was now up close and personal to Harry's family. Though I don't know why he hates them so much, I decided it was best to keep it away from my thoughts. Like that, no one gets hurt.

Harry raced us out of the front door of his Aunt's house, jogging us down the front steps as his Aunt remained yelling for him to come back. He didn't listen though. It worried me that he might go on and do something stupid because Harry isn't necessarily the smartest person when angry.

The situation reminded me of what I just went through back in my home. Robert was doing the same thing. I guess tonight isn't anyone's night.

"Get in." Harry opened the passengers seat door for me, allowing me to hop on and strap myself. He did the same thing.

"HARRY!" His Aunt kept shouting.

Before I knew it, Harry speeded off the driveway he was once parked on. Not giving a chance for his Aunt to catch up.

The engine of the car blasted around us. I took a short moment of silence to glance back at the house which was getting smaller and smaller by the second. His Uncle had stepped out now, walking up to Harry's Aunt who was now crying. The moment escalated quickly. His hand had reached out to where I figured he'd comfort her but instead it just swung across her face.

Her body fell to the floor, grasping her cheek as she continued crying.

"Harry!" I gasped, turning towards him. "Harry stop the car."

He didn't listen. Instead just kept driving faster. I know he saw what happened. Something even told me this isn't the first time he's seen it. He wasn't so surprised at all.

"Harry." I spoke more quietly, hand reached up to grab his forearm on the steering wheel.

This time he glanced back. My touch urged him to slowly bring the car to a stop.

I was scared to speak now. Never in my life have I physically seen a woman being abused by her husband and it terrified me that Harry didn't do anything. That's his Aunt.

"Harry.. We have to go back." I forced out. Voice cracking in the end.

Harry sighed, shaking his head to look back over at the empty street in front of him. "I can't." He looked down. The urge of turning back and beating the guy was clear in his body language.

I waited for him to speak again. "The sonofabitch put me on probation." He sighed.

"Why?" I asked.

I could tell it was getting hard for Harry to speak this sort of stuff out loud. My mouth was already getting ready to call it off and tell him to forget about it. I wasn't going to make things hard on him when he's only been making things easier for me. But he beat me to it before I had the chance to say so.

"He does that to her.." He nearly began to grow tears in his eyes. Feeling the pain of what he was just about to say. "I caught him abusing her one day and nearly ended his life." He breathed out slowly. "The cops came and I as put in court only he had her mind manipulated into telling the lie and it caused me jail time. I can't stand them, Leah." He looked back at me. "Every time I try to do the right thing, they always have to come and mess it up. I tried helping her but she doesn't want help. I tried telling it to her son.. my cousin.. Zayn."

My eyes widened. I never saw that coming.

"He didn't believe me either." He looked down.

I couldn't take it. I knew he was hurt, how couldn't he. He was only protecting what was his and he lost it. Along with the trust and belief of his family.

My hand reached out to the side of his head, fingers running through his soft curls before clutching the side. He looked up at me, green eyes sparkling to my illusion. My lips went straight, not finding a way possible to cheer him up again.

"I'm sorry this had to happen to you." I spoke sincerely.

Harry's hand placed over mine in his hair, slowly bringing it back down to his lips. There, pink soft skin made contact with the palm of my hand. Butterflies started emerging into my stomach. Thumb tracing over the wet spot.

"I can't change the way they are.." His raspy voice sounded. "Please don't try and change that for me."

My head nodded slightly.

"I know you only want to help. I don't like seeing her like that either. But one more strike and I'm back in prison for another year." His grip on my hand tightened. Just the sound of him saying he's been in jail sent me to the edge of my seat.

"I'll find a way." He nodded. "But I can't go there or I'll lose it."

"I understand." I nodded.

I didn't even realize my head go down to look at my lap. The touch of Harry's large hand brought me back to realization. Before I knew it I was already gazing back to look into his green shiny eyes.

"Hey." He urged to tilt my head up so I can get a good at him. A small smile came up in his lips. "Do you wanna get away?" He chuckled. "Just for tonight.. I promise."

Promises, promises. The last thing I wanted to do right now was go back home to my hatered of a Father. Getting away was the best thing possible for me. By the looks of it, for him too.

"I don't care where." I smiled. "Just as long as I'm with you."

It sounded funny coming out of me like that. I never saw myself telling this to anyone, especially Harry. But now I'm glad it's with him.

He leaned over in his seat, lips making a soft brush against mine in a small and lingering kiss. I didn't realize my eyes were closed until they fluttered open once again. A smile appeared in my lips.

"Lets go then.." He teased, going back to position himself in his seat before driving back away.

I started dozing off a few minutes along the ride under the small city lights. What brought me back was the feeling of Harry's large hand being placed on my thigh, gently rubbing small circles. It wasn't long before it quickly escalated again into going higher and higher up my leg. He became dangerously close to my crotch. The signs were only leading to one thing..

I was scared at first of course. This never happened to me before. I'm completely new to all of this and judging by Harry's troubled past, I knew I was just another one in his book.

It terrified my just by thinking of it.

But was I ready?
