Chapter 37
"Where are we going?" I chuckled, following him out the club but only to notice it was the back alley.
His ways left me bewildered and not at all comfortable anymore.
"So are you Harry's girl?" He whispered with grief.
"No?"
Jake's tall figure turned around, slowly drifting himself closer to my body. His warm breath fanned over the goosebumps on my skin, sending me chills down my spin.
"That makes things easier then." He smirked, blowing his minty breath to the spot beneath my ear.
I pried his fingers from my body, attempting to slide away from him but he held onto my wrist. I was hauled from beneath the light pole standing outside and into the darker part of the alley. I started to panic as he led me further away, the sound of the music gradually decreasing.
"Get off me." I struggled in his tight grip.
"Harry was right, you are feisty."
I shrieked as he yanked me up against the brick wall. He caught me as I stumbled into his arms.
"Slow down." He sniggered.
Catching hold of my shoulders, he roughly shoved me against the wall again. I winced, squeezing my eyes closed at the contact. When I opened them again, Jake's gaze had dropped to my chest. His fingers slowly trailed down my front. I was frozen to the spot, my mind quickly raced. I did the only thing I thought physically possible at the time.
"HARRY!" I shouted.
I filled my lungs with air to scream again but a clammy hand quickly covered my mouth.
"Sh.." He hushed. "Don't make this difficult."
I know it wasn't much of a choice but I'd pick Harry over Jake anytime. Even if he scared the life out of me, I hoped he would help me if I was ever in trouble. I whimpered as his fingertips playfully pressed into my hips, holding me in place.
His lips came closer to mine. I quickly turned away and they ended up crashing in my cheek rather than the target he was going for. His glare locked dead on mine, features growing more furious than he already was.
"What the hell are you doing?" A voice growled behind Jake.
Jake's touch withdrew from my body, a breath I didn't know I was holding, releasing from my lips.
"Oh.. Harry." Jake smiled. "Nice seeing you man, how are you?"
"Drop it, Rogers. What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Can't a guy go have fun? Maybe run into a few people here and there?" He joked.
Harry didn't laugh, only fisted his fist tighter.
Jake wasn't stopping, aggravating Harry seemed to be the only thing in his mind.
"Relax bro, we were only having some fun." He laughed again.
"Not with her your not." Harry stepped closer. "She's mine."
For the first time since meeting Harry, I was actually glad of his presence. He was angry, I can tell by the way he clenched his jaw tighter and the tips of his knuckles turned white. His green eyes seemed to grow darker as he stared at me.
"Leah."
Harry held a hand out in my direction. My eyes flickered from his outstretched limp up to his face. I hastily accepted the gesture, my body uncomfortably grazed past Jake's as Harry tugged me behind towards him. I was pulled behind his large figure, he protectively stood in front of me as I peered around his body.
"Come on Haz." Jake joked. "We were just having some fun, right Leah?"
Jake looked at me to reply but I did no such thing. Instead I caught hold of the back of Harry's shirt, moving behind him fully. My fingers desperately fisted the fabric, too frightened to let go.
"Don't be like that, babe."
I heard him start to walk towards us. Harry firmly stood his ground.
"Leah, go inside." Harry spoke with his back still facing me.
My fingers still tightest gripped his t-shirt.
He turned, green orbs connecting with mine.
"Go."
I obeyed him, my legs jogging back down the passage to the backdoor of the club. It wasn't long before I crashed into someone else, this time scaring the life out of me.
"Leah? What are you doing here?" Jenesis exclaimed as she took a step back to see me better. "Where's Harry?"
"I don't know what's going on." I explained, worry in my eyes. "One second I'm in danger and the next.. Harry shows up."
"Wait.. What?" She exclaimed. "Leah, What are you talking about?"
"There's no time to explain, Harry's out there and I have no idea what he's going to do." I spoke hastily looking back.
Their voices were difficult to make out, but I suddenly understood what was going on when Harry's fist smashed into Jake's face. He stumbled back, his body slumping against the wall. Harry didn't hesitate to knee him in the stomach, Jake yelping in pain.
My head turned to Jenesis who also saw what was happening. She wanted to go help by the way she stepped closer. Only I blocked her and insisted she didn't go in there.
"Why?" She exclaimed worryingly, glancing back at Jake and Harry.
"I'll handle him, just please go get help." I begged her. Thankfully, she agreed and within a blink of an eye she was quick to scurry along.
The next second I had, I spun back around. Harry brought his fist down again, the strength in his arm causing serious damage to Jake's face as blood gushed from his nose. I gasped as Harry got on top of the badly beaten injured guy. His clenched right fist repeatedly pounding into Jake.
I couldn't watch any longer, Harry was going to kill the guy if he kept on, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't stop. I ran quickly back to them. My heart pumped as I tightly gripped Harry's shoulders, desperately trying to pull him off. But he wouldn't budge.
"Harry, Harry stop!"
His arm drew back to land another punch, my hands wrapped around the stained muscle.
"You're going to kill him."
I was forced to let go as his arm pulled away from my hand, his fist once again hammering into Jake. My eyes widened as I watched Harry beat the life out of him. This can't be happening, Harry nor I can afford to get into trouble anymore. It'll hurt both of us badly. Jake's face was covered in blood, cuts and bruises quickly started to form. I immediately started to panic; I was going to be called up as witness to a murder if I didn't do something.
"Harry please, I'll do whatever you want." I quickly shouted.
Harry's head quickly turned to me causing dark curls to fall over his eyes. He pushed them back as he stared at me. I had his attention.
"Please, we'll go anywhere you want. Do anything you want. Just stop it already." I spoke quieter.
It took him a second to make the decision. Climbing off Jake and taking my hand. That was when two other figures came running in through the backdoor.
"What the hell happened?" Max called out in emergency.
One by one, all of Harry's friends came running out. Each one of their gaze fell on Jake's body and finally Harry.
"Fuck Harry, what did you do?" Ed's eyes grew wider.
Harry only growled beneath his breath, taking me with him.
"Harry!" Avery called. "Do you even realize what you've done?"
"I don't give a fuck!" He called back out, turning to face then one last time and taking his time to relax his tension a little. "Now it was nice meeting up with you guys again but we have to go."
"What!" Jenesis exclaimed. "What about Jake?"
"Leave him." Harry demanded. "I'm sure his guys will come pick him up soon."
"What about Leah?" Avery asked.
Harry's head turned back to me. "I'm taking her home." He sighed.
Well that was different than from what I expected.
***
I sat in silence the whole ride back. We were going back to my place that's for sure because the streets became familiar enough for me to recognize. I was still utterly speechless with what just happened. Harry... Saved me. When I least expected him to come, he came. The least person I imagine to ever come.. Came. My standards for Harry Styles were really low, now I have no idea where they are.
I didn't know what to say. Obviously I had to thank him.. But how? It couldn't be just any thank you, for me, I had to really show him I mean it. Maybe I'm overthinking things, I don't know, but one things for sure it's been quite a night.
I felt Harry's eyes flicker back at me, still focusing a little bit more on the road. He was worried. My silence was something new to him because that's probably the only thing I never am around him.
"You okay?" His voice was low and slow.
I didn't look back, only kept my vision diverted to the window outside. The sky was pitch black, a few light poles providing light from here on out. It was still a very quiet night, lonesome too.
"I'm fine." My voice cracked.
I started to see my house come from around the corner. There were still no cars parked in the driveway which could only mean one thing.. Robert and Niall still weren't home. Harry stopped the car shortly after, putting it on park before turning to me and sighing.
The distance from where he parked to my front door was a big one. I don't feel safe anymore, tonight has completely changed my point of view around these areas. It's like if I'm not with Harry.. I can't calm down. When I looked back at him, it was like I was frozen completely.
"Can you.. um.. Walk me to my door?" I asked shyly with the question. It was a stupid thing to ask, I know. He probably just wants to get home now after all I've put him through tonight.
He didn't smile but nodded his, quickly unstrapping his seatbelt, he walked out and past the front of the car. I unstrapped my seatbelt just in time as he opened the passenger's side door. I got down quickly from the large vehicle with his help of course, and waited patiently for him to close it back seconds later.
We walked along the dark passageway of the front of the house. Sounds of chirping crickets filled in for the empty atmosphere around us. My hands fiddled inside my bag to pull out my keys and reach for the knob. I heard Harry in the background sniff in some air before coughing.
"Leah, I have to say--"
He couldn't finish his sentence as I had quickly interrupted him. Closing my eyes, I quickly let it out of my mouth.
"Thank you, Harry."
He knew exactly what I was talking about. Thank God because I didn't want to go over it again. This whole night was just a big mistake.
"I'd do it again, you know?" His husky voice spoke making my head look back up at him.
A small smile came up across his face, almost as a way to make me feel better. It didn't work, only made me feel more guilty than I already was.
The awkward silence between us drove us to a conclusion. His conclusion actually.
Running his thumb below his nose, he coughed again and look out towards his car.
"I should probably get going now."
I looked up at him, eyes glowing as I saw his beautiful green orbs gleaming down at me. I couldn't let him leave, I didn't want to.
"Wait!" I exclaimed, calling him back to look up at me after his body passed mine. He stopped, head turning over his body first before straightly aligning it towards me.
"Can you stay the night?" I asked, mentally punching myself in the stomach. Never have I asked a guy to spend the night with me, especially not the guy I'm terrified of. Well, used to be. He's going to say no anyways. I'm just making a bigger fool of myself than I already am.
"Isn't your Dad going to be here any time now?" He asked.
I looked around. "It doesn't matter. I'll lie about where I was."
"No, it's not that." He chuckled, curls bouncing as he shook his head. "Won't he see me lying in your bed when he comes? Or maybe when he wakes you up in the morning?"
Both Robert and Niall are not stupid when it comes to the privacy of the only girl living in the house. They know their respect towards me and I know my respects towards them. No barging into each other's rooms without permission. Therefore, if I'm not out, they don't come in.
"Look, I like spending time with you too. But this... You're living under the same roof as my boss. I can't risk catching me with his daughter." Harry explained.
"But he won't." I stepped down the porch to be closer in front of Harry.
I understand this is important to him, my father's respect with these guys. I've seen it with my own eyes, Robert is like the father they've never had. He give them everything and is there for them. No wonder they love him so much, he's probably the only one that cares. But I care too. And now since I know what's really going on behind the scenes with them, it's like I can't run away from it. And Harry, well, I don't even know what's going on between us. I just don't want it to stop.
"Trust me." I breathed out.
He saw the look in my eyes. I'm sure it read horror and frightened because that's exactly how I felt. Who knows what'll happen tomorrow when Robert finds out I left and 'came home' without telling him. I'll be in deep trouble and for now I just want to forget about everything. So far, only one person can help me do that and that person is standing right in front of me.
"Let me take my monster-of-a-car down the road." He smiled. "Wouldn't want Robert to notice I'm here."
I gave him a half smile after before he walked away. I wanted to laugh but I just couldn't. At least he's staying, right now, I'm more than thankful for that.
