Chapter 29
My cheeks heated up with flirtatious word he called me all throughout our conversation.
I smirked once I read the message all over again. If I go, I'll risk getting into more trouble and lets not forget who we're talking about here. But if I don't go, I'll have to risk being with both Robert and Niall while staying home and doing nothing. If Harry thinks I'm that much of a goody-two-shoes to begin with, then he's definitely wrong. I'm tired of everyone always looking down at me, as if I can't do anything. Those days are gone. Maybe sneaking out a second time will help prove that. Not only me, but to myself.
Quickly, I took off my sweater before grabbing a black tank top from the drawers. It was getting hot today so I kicked off my shoes and wiggled my pants to my ankles before stepping out of them. Rushing back to my closet, I skimmed for a pair of light denim high waisted shorts to tug up my legs and keep the tank top tucked in. I also decided on switching my shoes to my low top converse so I'll be more comfortable. Finally, I fixed my hair and grabbed a grey bo-ho style cardigan (to cover up), all before locking my bedroom door and heading out back towards the balcony.
Opening the doors, I grabbed onto the side railing of the balcony and slid down carefully before hoping off and landing on the ground in one piece. Straightening my clothes, I walked over to an amused Harry.
I smirked the second I got there. "You were saying?"
Harry had his lips pursed to the side in amusement. "I'm impressed, two-shoes. I didn't know you had it in you." He leaned off the side of his car, coming face to face with me, that same devious, taunting smirk on his face.
I shot him a fake smile, "Well now you do."
I glanced down, admiring the way he wore his white oval scoop t-shirt and tight black jeans with his boots. It was exactly what he had on after he changed in front of me which I recall looking away in. Only this time, he changed things up with a black hat and dark shades.
"Checking me out, I see." I looked up to see him looking down at me with a teasing look.
I rolled my eyes, embarrassed that he caught me. "No."
He licked his lips, running his eyes up and down my body. "You don't look so bad yourself. I'm actually surprised you whipped up a new outfit so quickly." He smirked. "What? Where you excited I asked you out?"
"This is not a date." I corrected him.
He revealed his cleansing white teeth. "Only if you want it to be." His hand dug into his pocket before retrieving his car keys and pressing the button to unlock the doors. "Now come on.. You wouldn't want Robert to see you." He teased before opening the passenger's side door for me to sit.
I looked at him with curious eyes. Though I must admit part of me really found his ways attractive, I also remembered the kidnapping; the murders he might've done. Those thoughts didn't come to my head until now. He had me wowed beneath his charm and look at where it's brought me now. Great Leah, you left home to be with a bipolar socio path.
Could my day get any better?

"Can I ask again where exactly are we going?" I looked at him as he drove in concentration around town.
"Relax, you'll see it when we get there." He teased.
I huffed while taking a seat back against his car seat, looking out in front of me to see this was a place beginning to look like I've never at. It was almost like a downtown area with a bunch of tables outside with umbrellas. It was very beautiful, nothing like the busy streets I was used to seeing. I just wonder what exactly we're doing here?
"So, let me get something straight?" His raspy voice asked glancing over at me to the point where my attention was fully drawn to him. "You've been living in Colorado for what? A month now?"
"Four weeks." I corrected him.
"Whatever." He didn't really seem to care. "But, how much have you actually seen?"
I shrugged my shoulders. Robert never took me anywhere but to eat that one day at the restaurant with Niall. It's just we've all been to busy. The move was long, then came school, then collage applications, and then graduation. Not to mention, now me looking for a job. It's something I've been wanting to do know. And Robert has always been busy also with teaching Niall how to drive and job itself. So I guess that leaves me with the answer of.. Nothing.
"Nothing really." I answered him.
"Nothing!" He almost stopped the car with my response, darting his head in my direction. "Have you been to the park?"
I shook my head.
"What about the mall? Girls love the mall?" He asked.
"Nope."
"Okay, those are just the basics so I'm afraid to ask of you went to any of the fun stuff here." He replied.
"And what does any of that have to do with where we're going?" I asked.
"So I know if I should take you or not?" He answered. "There's so much to see and I just don't want the time you spend with me to be whatever."
If he's trying to say he wants the time we spend together to be unforgettable then he doesn't have to say no more. I'm definitely not going to forget anything that happened between us and that's mainly because murder was involved. Most importantly, my brother.
"Colorado is no California and it's nothing new really." He continued. "But.. I don't know, I like it." He smiled back at me. "It's quiet."
I could agree on that, alright. Though there's one thing I couldn't.. Harry actually being nice. I know, sounds crazy but it's actually happening! Thank God, I just hope nothing goes wrong to change that. Nice Harry is way more attractive than mean, obnoxious Harry. That's a fact.
I looked over at him, taking in his every non existence flaw on his face. I must admit, I was a little intrigued by him. Everything about him just screamed mystery, I could use some of that to distract me now a days. It'll seem like months before I can actually get moving in life, start college. But until then, I'm just boring ol' Leah waiting for life to make a start.
"What are you looking at?" His shoulders shook from laughter.
I looked away awkwardly while shaking my head. "Nothing."
"You know, if you just take a picture. it'll last longer."
I simply rolled my eyes.
He grinned, looking back at the road before taking a left turn.
If you asked me why I even agreed to go anywhere with him, much less, get in his car, I'd have no answer because, to be honest, I really don't know.
"I'm taking you out to eat." Harry spoke up once more, referring to the question I've been asking since I got in.
"Where?" I looked questioning.
"Depends. What are you up for?" He asked looking back at me.
"It doesn't matter." I felt my stomach rumble.
"Good." He smiled looking back ahead at the road.
I could really go for some food right now.
***
Finally after what felt like hours, the car came to a stop once it slid into a parking slot. Looking out the window, the bright words of "Empire Diner" beamed despite the sun rays flowing all around.
Unclasping the seatbelt from across my body, I turned to look at Harry. I furrowed my eyebrows together in confusion.
Were we going to leave or?
Feeling my eyes on him, he turned to look at me. "What?" He spat, to think he was actually being un-bipolar..
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. "Are we going or not?" I mumbled.
"Yeah." He ducked down, pulling the key off the ignition and unclasping his seatbelt. We both opened our doors and closed it once we were out. The quick alarming sound signaling that it was locked sounded afterwards we started walking towards the front door.
We arrived inside, Harry taking lead into moving us towards the back of the diner. It was all going by good, acknowledging that the place was pretty crowded and quite small, until Harry's body collided with another which caused mine to knock into his back. I groaned, running my forehead.
"What the--
I began to speak when I stopped midway, feeling the air between us thicken once I came to realize the other guy standing there.
He was tall, about an inch taller than Harry, if not the sane height. He had dirty blond hair, patted down and moved to the right side with electrifying blue eyes. He had a bit of muscle built in to him and plumb, pink lips. I have to admit, he had some good looking in him but it wasn't nearly as close as Harry's.
Oh my God, did I just say that?
I pursed my lips to the side, moving between both him and Harry and becoming closely alerted with their conversation.
"Styles." The guy hissed with a smirk. "Fancy seeing you here, huh?"
"Not now." Harry spoke through gritted teeth, his voice low and deadly and for a moment there, I could've sworn I saw death flash in his eyes.
"Oh, I can see your settled." He smiled at me. "Whose the lovely lady?"
Harry took a step back in front of me when the guy got closer.
The hairs on my arms stood up immediately.
"Go away, Chase. I'm not up for your games." He almost growled at the guy who I had now known the name of.
"Not up for them, or are you just too weak?" He laughed.
Harry stood silent. If I said something like that to him, he'd have me ready to lock up in a dungeon or something. What is it with this guy that's having Harry.. Under control?
"You're such a wuss, Styles. You and your guys." The guy continued.
I saw Harry's fist ball up besides him. He was going to through a few punches to his face if he didn't shut up right now. I couldn't let that happen, though. Looking around the diner, there are children here; little ones that'll be traumatized by the scene.
"Please," Harry continued, sounding all confident with the guy. "Both me and you know my guys could take down you and your little girls any day."
"Wow. Even your comebacks got worse." The guy laughed, straightening his posture while getting closer to Harry's body so it can look more intimidating.
Well, He would have if Harry didn't walk closer, nearly closing the gap between them. His jaw tensed, eyes turned black, veins becoming visible from his neck. He looked scary in all the ways possible.
"Is that so?" Harry continued. "Do you need me to finish you right here?"
"You wouldn't dare." He smirked down at Harry.
"Try me." Harry whispered in a daring manner.
My hand quickly raised to grip the back of Harry's shirt as the scene got heated. I hoped it would work as he saw I was only trying to prevent him from doing something he'll regret later on.
Everyone's eyes were on them. That only made me fist his shirt even tighter.
A few exchanges of dead given words were spoken before the guy walked away and Harry grabbed my elbow, walking down the aisle towards an empty booth for us to sit in.
Pulling out of his grasp, I slid into the patted leather across from him. Once he sat down across from me, I noticed the tightening of his jaw and the white of his knuckles the moment he laid fists on the table.
"Who was that?" I whispered, not wanting to trigger that special nerve of his. The last thing I would've wanted is to make him angrier than he already is.
"Remember last night.. What Matt was talking about, something about the Vipers?" He asked looking up at me with anger in his eyes.
I slightly nodded my head.
"That was one of them." He turned his head to look out the window by the booth, not wanting to carry on with the subject any further.
I would agree with him there, I don't want to bring up anything from last night.
I looked up just in time to see a waiter who I suspect is here to take our order, stand in front of us.
"Hello, my name is Ashton, are you guys ready for me to take your order?" He smiled brightly, blue eyes peering down at me.
I shot him back a small smile, taking a quick glance at the menu before spotting a tantalizing picture. "Yeah, I guess I'll take the hamburger with French fries, please." I could feel my stomach already growl in hunger.
When I looked back I saw Harry give me a devious stare. I was completely unaware of what he was thinking of, but something inside me told me it wasn't good.
"I'll have the same thing as her." He smirked back at me. "Oh and if you don't mind, would you send the food with another waiter? I'm afraid you're making that one wet and it's kinda disturbing."
My eyes shot open, mouth falling agape as I looked back at the guy. I never felt so embarrassed in my life! For God sakes, I wasn't even checking out the guy!
The waiter gave Harry and I a confused look but hid it after an awkward smile. I couldn't help but look down so none of them can see my cheeks flood with heat. Once I heard the waiter leave, I immediately turned back to Harry with wide eyes.
"What was all that for?" I sounded serious.
Harry chuckled, almost choking in his spit.
I shot him a quick glare.
"Oh come on, you were totally checking that guy out." He pointed behind him.
"No I wasn't!" I exclaimed. "It's called having manners. You should try it some time." I didn't mean to go all sassy but I couldn't help it. That was low, even for him. What did I ever do to make him act like that? He should just be happy it was a stranger..
He shook his head, a knowing grin on his lips.
I sighed, shrugging my shoulders afterwards. "What's so funny now?"
He laughed at how angry I was getting which only made me even more annoyed than I was before.
"You're so annoying." I crossed my arms against my chest.
"I'm sorry, it's just.. Getting you pissed off is the highlight of my day." He continued. "And lately, it hasn't been going easy on me."
"What's wrong with talking about it?" I asked making a point.
Harry fixed himself in a more comfortable position against the booth while looking outside and sighing. "I don't like talking about my problems."
"There's nothing bad about talking.." I continued.
This time he looked back at me, green eyes shinning from the morning light shining from the window besides us. They were beautiful. He was beautiful. But he's also dangerous.. Not to mention, mysterious. He's something alright.
"You see, there's your answer." His look on me became more of a stare. And surprisingly, it wasn't a bad one. "I know there's nothing wrong with talking.. It's the people you share it with."
I looked at him in sigh. Who knew something understandable would come out of his mouth? I can see his problem now, trust issues. Why? I don't know. I guess we all have them but it's all different depending on the person.
"I know how you feel." I looked down at my fiddling hands on top of the surface of the shiny table.
There was a longer period of silence than I expected. When I looked up, I noticed his stare was dropped dead on me. I figured he would look away the second I noticed but he didn't, instead he just smiled.
"How?" He tilted his head a little to the side.
I cleared my throat, not believing I'm actually about to have a normal conversation with this guy. And it doesn't even involve me persuading him to take me back or something.
"Well, my brother isn't really.. um.. a caring person." I paused. "I mean, he cares and all but if I was to tell him something, he'll just sit down and listen and not even give me advice or anything."
Harry chuckled, running his index finger over his bottom lip while his thumb caught hold of it in the end. There are many intriguing moves Harry Styles is capable of doing, only this one was the most intriguing. "What about your father?"
"Robert is nice and all but.. I don't really know him? You Know?" I furrowed my eyebrows, hoping he'll understand my confusing choice of words. "I just don't have that type of bond with him. I wish I did, but I don't."
"And your Mum?"
"She's in London." I gloomly looked down. "She studing in college and she just doesn't have the time."
Harry furrowed his eyebrows and smiled but in a sorry way. "I'm sorry."
As surprising as it sounded, this was actually happening. "You don't have to be." I smiled back like it was not a big deal. "It okay sometimes to just be on your own."
He looked down, chuckling to himself while shaking his head. When he looked up, he put on a smirk.
"Too bad I'm not letting that happen."
All my emotions balled up inside me. I wonder if this kind of stuff just happens overnight. I've never imagined to see the moment where this will happen. He just made this a hundred times harder to hate him. I never saw it coming. Please dear God, make something stupid come out of his mouth again!
