Chapter 28

"You know, I was perfectly fine with having Zayn drive me." I tried to make him change his mind as he closed the garage door. In front of me was the car I got tired of seeing, still untouched where he left it when we got here.

This guy seriously has mental problems. I don't want to be in a car when he's mad, I've lived it before and it's not something I want to relive again.

"Does it look like I care what you're perfectly fine with?" He exaggerated my words while moving his long legs towards the driver's side of the car. "Get in!" He exclaimed hopping in the front.

I groaned, following his demand in order to not get him pissed off at me. I'm not up for that anymore.

Both doors were shut at the same time giving time for Harry to start the engine the next moment he got the chance. The garage doors were automatically raised before he drove in reverse out of the space into the bright, sunny morning atmosphere. I didn't feel like speaking, Harry seemed to be way above his temper right now but something about it didn't let me.

"Robert is officially going to kill me." I sighed looking out in front of me after a few minutes passed into the car ride.

I felt him glance back and forth at me, tongue licking over his bottom lip. "Do you want me to go in and explained what happened?"

I stared back at him in ignorance. He can't be serious right? "Okay, then explain to Robert how you led my brother into your little killing group and kidnapped me afterwards."

I caught him there. He wouldn't give himself up like that to my father, especially to save me from getting grounded. If it took me this long to see the kind of person Harry Styles really is, I'm not really sure he'll just give it all away in a second to the guy that is my father.

"For your information, it's called lying.." He spoke sarcastically. "Did you actually think I'm that stupid?"

I rolled my eyes, "Then what are you planning on telling him, huh..?"

"Jesus Christ, you ask a lot of questions!" He argued. "Can you just trust me for once?"

"No." I talked back. "And I don't want you to go in and talk to Robert. I can deal with him on my own."

I heard him laugh, rolling his head back before glancing out his side window while running a hand over his chin and jawline. It looked hot the way he did that but I tried not to show much affection towards it which could lead to some sparks with him. "Fine, but don't say I never tried to help."

I let out a long sigh while looking out in front of me. I don't need his help. Not even if it was the last thing I ever needed from him. Who does this guy seriously think he is? I mean, he doesn't seem like the helping kind. What if he doesn't say anything and makes me look bad in front of Robert. I'll be sent back with my Mom in a heartbeat. I love her and everything but I'm not moving again, not to London. Harry just isn't the trusting kind. No one is. You can only trust one person and that person is you.

The car became silent again. Surprisingly I found it soothing, but knew I couldn't take it much longer so I moved onto a different conversation.

"So am I going to be left alone now?" I asked.

Harry's jaw tensed with the question, hands gripping the steering wheel tighter. Did I say something wrong?

"Harry?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows.

He quickly turned back to me, tensing his jaw a little bit more before finally releasing it and nodding his head. "Yeah."

He didn't seem very sure of his answer but he also seemed like he'll crash this car if I asked him again. So for that, I remained quiet. Not knowing what else to talk about or even actually wanting to talk about anything at this point. It was quiet, really quite. I couldn't wait to get home at this point. I was tired and had a headache. Maybe it was caused by Harry.

"Why is it that you talk for hours and then just shut up?" He asked laughing while glancing to look back at me.

"Please, it hasn't even been 10 minutes." I rolled my eyes.

"Doesn't matter, you always do the same thing." He smiled.

"And you always act bipolar." I said to myself, smiling across the words in my head.

"So um.." He cleared his throat, whipping the smirk off his face. "How did you sleep last night?"

I didn't even bother looking at him. I slept on the floor because of him! And unless his floor was made up of mattress firm, which clearly wasn't, I slept very uncomfortable.

"Fine." I shrugged my shoulders, not wanting to set off his sensitive side and start yelling at me for whatever reason. You can learn a lot about a guy in one night. But not enough..

"You slept on the floor." He chuckled.

"Well you told me." I argued, taking back a moment to realize how childlike I was acting.

"I didn't think you'll actually do it?" He smiled glancing back at me. "I had to walk in and see you there all--"

"Wait?" I cut in, "You were the one who moved me?"

Harry nodded. "Well, it wasn't Makayla, that's for sure."

I couldn't believe this. Harry Styles, actually caring about someone to take back what they said and make it better? I couldn't picture it, Harry's arms picking me up, covering me with the blankets. How could I not feel that?

I felt the car slow down, turning to a corner I grew familiar with as Robert's neighborhood. Finally. I can't explain how relieved I felt to know I was finally in a safe place and away from him. But just thinking about the consequences that await me when I do get home.. ugh! Or if I do? Maybe Robert didn't notice a thing that I was missing? I mean, I left good evidence that I didn't and it's too early in the morning. Besides, men never notice anything so it's not like I will. Hopefully.

"You know," I continued. "You can just leave me right in this corner."

Harry looked at me. "Why can't I drive you to your house?"

"Because your moster-of-a-car might set off some sounds that'll make Robert wake up." I explained. He did have a big car, and I made a very good point in that too. Robert doesn't know I left and if Harry's car makes an entrance to his driveway, there will definitely be some questions.

"Don't worry, I know just what I'm doing." He smirked.

I sighed. Maybe it's because he's done this plenty of other times with other girls. I'm just another addition to his long list. God, I just want to go home! Go to bed, sleep all afternoon, and eat afterwards. It's been a long time since I last ate. Not to mention, the lack of hospitality I received at Harry's place. Well, make that his Aunt's.

"And just so we're clear.." He continued once more, looking at me while licking his bottom lip. "This.. Never happened."

"No sh--

"No," He cut in, glancing at the road once more before turning to me. "I need you to understand.. You can't tell Niall you know about him being with us that night. Not even if you decide to keep it a secret between you both and not tell Robert. I'm serious, Leah,  this can hurt all of us."

"I got it." I nodded my head in acknowledgment. I think I'm smart enough to know that. Tonight never happened. I still look at Harry Styles like a mysterious guy that works for Robert and went to high school with me.

The car stopped right in front of Robert's house. I looked at it with shinning eyes but knew it wasn't over until I'm inside and away from any trouble.

"Well, this is you." He sighed, resting his head back on the seat before looking at me.

I looked back. Maybe he was going to say something nice? I don't know, our conversation this morning wasn't as bad as it was last night.

"Are you gonna get out or.."

I rolled my eyes. Why would I even dream of it?

He started laughing and urged me to stop when I was opening the door to leave. He was really driving my patients this time.

"I was just kidding." He chuckled. "Gee, have at least some type of humor?"

"Oh yes, because that's just what I need." I smiled speaking in sarcasm.

"Clearly." He looked backed in front of him, green eyes growing wide.

I clicked my seatbelt off, opening the door and basically jumping off the vehicle.

"Goodbye, Harry." I sound relieved for a moment before;

"Hold on!"

I sighed, I should've known this wasn't going to last much.. My freedom. The look on my face explained it all.

"I thought you wanted me to leave already?" I spoke with a wise tone.

He rolled his eyes to the top before looking back at me, one hand still on the steering wheel. "I just wanted to know if I can get your number?"

I stared at him for a moment, wondering to myself if he was just joking or actually being serious. "You want my number?" I repeated dumbly. "Why?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "Figured it might come in handy."

I hesitated at first before slowly sighing in surrender. "Sure." What does it matter anyways, it's not like he's going to use it. It'll probably be placed in his little black book or something.

Slipping out his phone from his jeans, Harry handed it to me where I inserted my number and then handed it back.

"Can I leave now?" I asked in a desperate manner.

He smiled down before looking at me and nodding his head.

"I'll see you soon." He smirked at me.

Again, I rolled my eyes. Sadly, he's right. Having a job with Robert in the same house I live in, yeah, I'll be seeing him plenty more times no matter how much I wish I didn't.

I closed the door, careful to not make much of a sound before swiftly turning around and walking towards the front door of the house. Slipping the key from underneath the welcome mat, I unlocked it and twisted the knob open. Putting the key back where I found it, I shut the door to the house, tip toeing inside carefully so that I wouldn't wake up anyone.

"Where have you been young lady?"

My heart skipped a beat; my stomach plummeting to the floor. Turning back around from the second step of the stairs in which I was already on,  I saw Robert, still in his evening pants and t-shirt, standing by the living room door frame while drinking his mug of morning coffee.

I hate my life.

Right when I finally got my freedom back, I know I'll have it taken away from me once more and this time by Robert. To think that I'd finally get away a break and just forget this whole day even happened, something like getting caught by him had to happen. I swear, I have a problem with not being able to hide myself well. First, Harry's little group saw me and now Robert saw me sneaking into the house.

His words rang through my ear repeatedly causing my stomach to twist. Inwardly, I kicked myself in the face. "I, well," I paused. "You see.. It's a pretty funny story." I chuckled lightly, moving back down and away from the stairs while trying to ease the tension but it didn't seem to work. Instead, his face grew even harder with anger. I never saw myself looking at him this way.. Well, at least not at me. I figured it'll start with Niall but, oh wait, this is all because of Niall!

"Oh." Robert arched an eyebrow with a look that screamed: You're not fooling me. "Enlighten me."

I bit the inside of my cheek. Taking a deep breath, I racked my brain for a lie I can tell. Maybe with someone I last saw at the party? It's not like I could tell him the truth. Harry made that pretty clear and I'm not so dumb myself to know that'll be a pretty stupid move. Besides, I gave my word I wouldn't. "I was at Ivy's house."

Robert's face eased a bit but still remained in anger. "And what were you doing there late at night?" He pestered.

Then, out of nowhere, a loud yawn and same annoyed tone as always came walking from the stairs behind me making our conversation take a sudden pause.

"What the hell is going on here? Can't you tell some people are trying to sleep?" Niall complained. God he looked so disgusting. His hair was a mess, the navy blue t-shirt he wore was wrinkly, and his grey joggers had a weird stain in one of the knees. He definitely looked like he was having a hangover.

"Niall, go back to your room. This is between your sister and I." Robert instructed.

Are you kidding me! Sure, you get caught for sneaking in one morning and immediately he turns into a detective but taking one good look at his son and only tells him to go back to bed is completely obseard.

"What happened?" He looked at us with tired eyes, scratching the top of his head.

"Niall, I said go back to your room!" He raised his voice strictly before toning down again. "You're grounded remember?"

Niall finally gave in, grunting before going back upstairs.

Great, now I have to speak.

"Well.." He looked at me, waving his coffee mug around before bringing it up to his lips. "You were saying?"

I smiled, picking up where I left off. Ivy's house, right! "She needed some help with some last minute college applications."

Not a bad lie.

"I see." He took another sip from his coffee. "But weren't all applications suppose to be in before the 9th?"

"That was for CSU. She wanted to sign up to Denver University, who by the way aren't suppose to be submitted until today."

I'm getting pretty good at this.

"Why couldn't her parents help her with that? Maybe work on it herself?" He questioned.

"Her parents are away to visit a sick relative and her dog just died so she wasn't so thrilled in writing a good essay for her entry." I explained, laughing on the inside because (a) Ivy doesn't even have a dog, and (b) Ivy's parents are on a cruise to the Bahamas for their 20th anniversary. I'm so glad he hasn't taken the time to formally meet any of my friends. The only reason he knows Ivy is because we're always together when he picked Niall and I up from school.

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that." He looked sad about the news but not so sad. Robert isn't really that guy of much emotion. "But why couldn't that wait until the morning? I mean, I know she's your friend but--"

"She's my only friend." I corrected. It's usually not what I'm used to but I'm glad at least I have her. And I wouldn't dare to mention Liam now.

"Whatever." He moved his eyes around, exaggerating a wave with his hand. "But that still doesn't give you permission to run off in the middle of the night? Are you even aware of what could've happened to you? You could've been kidnapped.. Or worse!" He exclaimed strictly.

Oh the irony of all this.

"Ivy lives a few blocks away. It's not like she lives on the other side of town! Besides, I ran. So there's no chance anyone could even take me, even if they wanted to."

He shook his head, knowing I was partly right, but at the same time, to him, I was wrong.

"Still, Leah." He looked down shaking his head. "In what way do you think running off like that in the middle of the night without at least leaving us a note or waking me or your brother up to tell is where you were going was okay?"

I sighed. All I wanted to do was go to bed and forget this whole night happening but of course my trying-to-be-father has to give me a long speech about something I could really care a lot less about. I know what I did was stupid, trying to be a good sister and all, but trust me I've learned my lesson and I'm definitely never doing that again.

"I know, and I'm sorry." I pouted, saddening in my eyes.

He sighed. "It's still not good enough, Leah. What you did was wrong in every way possible."

"I promise it won't happen again." I pleaded desperately. I can tell where this was going and I didn't want it to happen.

"Oh, I know you won't." He spoke up, pointing a finger at me. "Because you're grounded for a week."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I mean, sure I knew I'd get into trouble but to be grounded? For a week?

"What!" I shouted in shock. "That's not fair!"

He nodded his head, walking his way past me to go by the kitchen counters and place more coffee into his mug. "I've already talked to your mother and you're lucky I'm going so easy on you. She would've made it a month!"

So now my Mom is in this! Oh my God my life as it is is officially over and I can only thank myself along with my brother and Harry for keeping me overnight.

"You talked to Mom!" I exclaimed following him to the front door where he unloaded a pile of mail and pulled out today's newspaper.

"I had to. You left me no choice." He looked at me straight in the eyes. "I was worried about you."

His words struck me like lightning. I was still angry with the way he's punishing me towards this. And then to bring my Mom into this! She was probably getting ready to go to bed or something!

I groaned. "This is not fair."

He didn't seem to pay much more attention after that once he pretended to find the news title interesting. He was treating me like a child. Therefore, I couldn't care less if I started acting like one and rolled my eyes before stomping away up the stairs to my room.

Of course, it wasn't long before the start of all this showed up from behind his door and ran up to me.

"Why the hell was he screaming at you?" He asked while I finished walking down the hall and came face to face with my bedroom door. "Did you do something wrong?"

"Right now's not a good time, Niall." I opened the door and walked in but only to have him follow.

"But I wanna know if everything's okay?" He looked at me.

I looked back, imagining him that night with that body. It made me calm down.

"Just.. Go away okay?" I went to my bed to see the sheets were already unmade which ment Robert did look through my bed to find out I was missing.

"Leah, come on, I'm your brother.." He raised his hands in the air. "You can tell me anything.."

"Really, Niall?" I pinned my eyes. "Everything?"

He remained silent which only made me hurt more.

"Get out already!" I shouted. "I want to be alone!"

Niall looked at me oddly but compiled easily as he walked out and closed the door behind him.

And here I was now. Stuck in my room, miserable. The things I would do just for someone to get me out of this place.

I walked over to my nightstand, sitting on the edge of my bed to plug in my phone to charge. Might as well enjoy it while I still have it. Robert might take that away too!

Just then, it started to buzz and my head snapped to see who it was. I hoped it'd be Ivy or Liam but to my dismay, an unknown number popped up.

Sighing, I clicked on the message and the thing I saw next caught me off guard.

From: Unknown

How did it go? -Harry

He actually texted me? What in the world?

I thumbed in a response before pressing send.

To: Harry

What do you mean?

A few seconds later my phone buzzed again.

From: Harry

Your Dad. Did he get mad?

To: Harry

He brought my mother in it. One week's worth of punishment.

From: Harry

Ouch, my bad.

To: Harry

Yeah, Yeah

From: Harry

So..

To: Harry

What?

From: Harry

Are you up for breaking the rules again?

I arched an eyebrow up, wondering if he was being serious or just messing with me.

To: Harry

Depends on what it is?

From: Harry

Look out your window, beautiful

I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion. Setting my phone down, I walked over to my window cautiously. When I opened it and looked outside, there he was, laying back against his car. When he looked up and noticed I had seen him, he smirked and waved at me.

I rolled my eyes, walking back over to my phone and unlocking it to text him back.

To: Harry

You haven't left!

From: Harry

I figured something like this would happen.

I could just imagine him smirking as he typed that.

To: Harry

Robert's awake. If he sees you out there, your dead, you know that right?

From: Harry

Then I'll just say I was dropping by.. A guy can lie, beautiful. And if I worried so much about what others think then I wouldn't be here.

Just then, he sent a second message before I could reply.

From: Harry

So what is it going to be goody-two-shoes? You coming?
