Chapter 27

Harry's Point of View:

I stepped out of my bedroom, leaving Leah alone to change. I didn't really put much thought into what just happened, emptying my mind to just go back down to the kitchen. I'm sure there's something around to heat up in the microwave or something and that's good enough for me. I don't cook and am not really interested in it.

I made it down the stairs, looking down as I scratched the back of my head to enter the kitchen.

"Good morning." A heard a low and familiar voice speak suspensefully.

I quickly looked up, eyes widening at the sight in front of me. Zayn.

"Shit." I mumbled to myself.

"Nice to see you again." He smiled devilishly.

"What are you doing here?" I spoke through gritted teeth.

He removed his shoulder from the door frame he was leaning on to walk closer to me, eyes looking straight at mine in a warning look. "Well, this is my Mum's house.. I figured you'd be here since its where you always come when you don't want people to find you."

"Don't worry, I was just leaving." I almost growled starting to move towards the door behind him. Maybe if I make it seem like I'm leaving, he'll also leave and I'll have enough time to get Leah and get her out of here. Remembering what Scott told me last night, all the other guys turned against us. It was only him and I.

"Stop." Zayn warned.

My hand remained gripping the door knob, thinking to myself if I should listen to him or not.

"Harry, I think we have to talk." He sighed.

I loosened my grip on the knob, slowing letting out my breath as I turned back around.

"I know Scott told you." He sighed.

I pinned my eyes at him. "Look, if that's your decision then fine by me.. Just don't come anywhere near me."

"Are you seriously going to act like that with me?" He questioned, walking back closer to me. "I came here to tell you I'm sorry."

"For what?" I raised my voice. "For finally choosing the guys over me? I think it's already too late for that, don't you think?"

"Listen, I was saving your ass. Hers too." He pointed down at me. "Can you at least give me a chance to explain?"

"Explain what, Zayn?" I got aggravated with him.

He placed a hand over my shoulder, "I'm on your side, mate. Did you actually think I'll leave you behind? You're family."

I couldn't look into his eyes because I felt like he betrayed me, even if it was too save my ass. I don't need saving, I'm perfectly fine on my own without his help or anyone's. It's been like that forever and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

"I want to help you. Leah is my friend too." He added.

"She's not my friend.. I was just doing business in getting out what she saw." I growled.

"You know they were looking for her? Matt, Dean, and Sean?"

"Them too?" This is all blowing up so fast.

Zayn nodded. "What did you do with her without getting seen? They were searching all over for her?"

I wasn't thinking of telling him what happened. After all that, I think I'll need some time to straighten things out with him. But now's not a good time.

"Harry!" A voice higher than Leah's sounded. I knew it wasn't her. But it was Makayla. "Harry!"

Shit..

"Harry, what the hell is that girl still doing here? Do you wanna know what she told me!?" She asked in a complaining voice once she was finally in the kitchen, completely ignoring Zayn.

"What!" My eyes looked back at him towards the exclamation he made. "You still have her here?"

Without saying another thing, Zayn turned around and raced out of the kitchen towards the stairs. I couldn't let him go up so instead I moved Makayla out of my way and flowed after him. She came behind.

I was too late. Standing in the middle steps of the staircase, Leah stood shocked and utterly speechless.

Leah's Point of View:

Crap. Zayn's here!

A million of questions started crossing my mind.

Why is he here?

Is he looking for me?

Did he not remember I was here?

All these and more replayed in my mind like a broken tape. All being left unanswered as I kept looking down at the three frozen figures in front of me, unable to move or even speak. These guys were far more scarier when together. I'm just surprised the whole group isn't here.

Zayn looked back at Harry in a frustrated way, gritting his teeth as he spoke just loud enough for me to also hear.

"Why didn't you take her back?"

Harry looked up at me, closing his eyes and letting out deep puffs of air before looking back up at Zayn and walking towards the living room. Zayn following.

"This is all your fault." Makayla crossed her arms around her stomach, giving me a deadly look before walking back up the stairs and past me.

I want even going to bother with her, she'll only make things worse than they already are. I really messed up today. That's all I've been doing lately, messing up.

I ran back down the stairs, careful not to make much noise as I walked towards the faintly voices sounding from the living room.

"Are you crazy! Matt's going to find out!" Zayn angrily whispered.

"And then do what? Kick us out? Do you seriously think he has the balls to do that?" Harry angrily replied.

"He only wants to know if she's with the Vipers or some other side."

"Have you met the girl? She has no idea what the hell's going on!" Harry whispered back.

"Then why don't you tell her?" Zayn asked. "Everything?"

There was a long pause. I grew curiously aware of the conversation.

"I can't. It's not how it works." He mumbled.

"And how is she--"

I entered the space they were in. Again, interrupting them and they didn't look so pleased when they saw me step in.

"I- I'm sorry to.." I stopped myself, knowing I shouldn't be apologizing at all. "I'm going to leave now.."

They looked at each other. Harry's eyes grew wider before looking back at me. "No, you can't leave."

"I think I should." I nodded.

"Leah, you can't." Harry interrupted. "You leave when I say."

"You know you also said that last night." I looked at him with angry eyes, starting to wonder if I was ever actually leaving this place.

I had him there, all quite and not knowing what to say for once. Without saying another word, I turned around, angrily racing out of the living room and back up the stairs to his room. The door was shut simultaneously as I locked it. Their heavy footsteps were heard which I chose to ignore.

I had to much hope. I actually thought since this guy knew my father and now is becoming friends with my brother, I might actually have a chance of seeing them again. Or my Mom, or Ivy, or even Liam. How could I've been so childish?!

"Leah, open the door!" Harry's loud voice raved in anger as the door knob shook at immense motion.

I stood back, hoping for the best to come out of this once he opens the door. Obviously he would, just give it a moment or two. Would he hit me? I don't know. This guy could be capable of doing anything, only I won't let him.

"Leah open the door right now!" He banged a shoulder against the wood in effort to swing it right open.

I was basically crying for a miracle, not that I believe in that stuff but it seemed like the only thing possible this minute. I turned around, eyes widened with the look of the big glass doors in front of me. My feet ran up to it, grasping the handles in both my hands but only to find out it was locked. Of course.

I looked around, desperate for another way out but there was none. This was the only way and it's locked.

Or is it?

My eyes laid dead on a baseball bat on the floor of his room. I quickly held it tight in my hands, running back to hold it above my shoulders. I was going to break free, right here and right now.

"Leah!"

One last yell was heard before the bedroom door broke down to the floor, altering me to jump in shock.

I swiftly turned around to see the piercing green orbs turn black in anger as his body sprinted up to me. My efforts into crashing my way out of here failed as he grabbed the bat out of my hand and launched it to the side, far away from my reach.

"Are you stupid!" He yelled.

I backed away as he got closer, soon spotting Zayn over his shoulder enter the room. Of course, the first thing he noticed was the door on the floor, and then he noticed Harry's fist balling up on his sides. I noticed that too.

"Wow! What the hell!" Zayn shouted before grabbing Harry by his shoulder and singing him out of the way. His gaze dropped intense on Harry before looking back at me.

"What's going on here?" He lowered his voice.

I only looked down, not being able to look at their faces because I'd knew I would go crazy. I can't stand being here, I just want to go home before anyone notices I'm gone.

I felt Harry's eyes on me before he mumbled a few things and stormed out of his room leaving only the two of us alone. Zayn and me.

"I'm sorry you had to--"

I quickly moved away from his hands reaching for me. Still not looking back at him, I shook my head.

"Hey, I'm not going to hurt you. Neither was Harry." He continued. "Why did you have a bat?"

This time I looked up, looking at him with a sarcastic look on my face. Why else would I have a baseball bat? It surely wasn't to play some baseball, that's for sure.

"I need to get out!" I widened my eyes. "You got what you wanted. I said what I needed to say and I was promised to go home!"

"And you will." Zayn spoke back calmly. "But can't you see that right now we're working on not having you killed? These guys think you're with the Vipers. That you were sent to spy on us--"

"But I'm not?" I interrupted.

"I know that." He sighed. "But they don't."

"They?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"There are two more guys in our group. Just like Matt, they're both sophomores in college." He explained. "Leah, if they found you, they would've killed you."

I took a moment to let the information be absorbed. At least I can get somewhere with Zayn. Harry as just as confusing as William Shakespeare.

"So now I have to live with the fact that someone out there is trying to kill me?"

Zayn started laughing. This seriously wasn't funny.

"Of course not. Matt's a good guy if you're on his good side."

"And what side am I on?" I questioned, crossing my arms below my chest.

"Scott went to talk things out with him this morning. Tell him that you're innocent."

I sighed, looking down and feeling so useless. I never should've left home. I never should've worried about Niall and the stupid stuff he was doing. I should've said something to Robert the second I saw Niall was missing instead of going searching for him myself. And most importantly, I never should've left that party at that time. Look at where that's all driven me. It's true what they say, Karma's a bitch.

"Don't worry, we're not the bad guys here." He tried to make me feel better but honestly it didn't work not even a little.

What kind of good guys kill another person?

We remained silent again, not saying a word to each other. All he did was look at me which made me feel really uncomfortable. I was about to ask him what he was doing here to get out of the awkward silence between us but a loud buzzing sound went off in the front pocket of his leather jacket and made me bring back the words that were already in the tip of my tongue.

Zayn reached for it and I decided to look somewhere else. Soon enough, he spoke again.

"What do you say I take home?" He smiled down at his phone screen.

I immediately looked up, eyes widening with the news.

"What?"

"Scott did it. He talked to Matt and the others." He smiled shoving his phone back in the pocket it was previously in.

"So I'm safe now?" A small started appearing in my lips with enlightenment.

"From death, yes." He got serious. "But not from us."

I furrowed my eyebrows.

"You have to be careful, Leah. Now even more that your brother's in. The Vipers will see you and might think you're with us. Just.. Be careful, especially now since you'll be attending college."

"They go to the same college?" I asked, great way to begin.

"They go to the academy. You might hear about them one day.. But today, I think you've had enough."

I couldn't agree more on that one.

I watched mystified as Zayn bend over to grab the door Harry knocked down, picking it up to set it aside on the door frame. "I'll just say we were playing football or something." He smiled.

I didn't understand anything behind what he just said but I really couldn't care much since the only thing in my mind right now was finally getting to go home. And trust me, I won't be getting out for a while until this all has passed over my head.

He reached a hand towards where the for door used to stand, smiling in a leading way. "What do you say? Wanna go home?"

Without saying anything else, I sprinted towards the exit. Zayn is far better company than Mr. Styles over there who can't get his head straight for anything. Finally, because of Zayn, I'm getting out.

We stepped into the hallway, leading the way down the stairs was Zayn. I did my best to hide the silly smile on my face. Who knows what might change their minds?

The sweater in my hands was tightly clutched as we made it to the door Harry and I first walked through last night which was the garage door. But I couldn't enjoy the feeling much before we heard another deep voice halt us from behind.

"Where do you think you're going?"

We turned around, already knowing it was Harry. His gaze dropped deadly on Zayn, and only Zayn.

"Did you get the message?" Zayn smiled. "She can go."

"Yeah, I got the message." He pinned his eyes, anger was clearly noticeable in his body. "So where are you going?"

Zayn furrowed his eyebrows, pointing towards the door behind us. "I was going to take her?"

"No you're not." He growled. "I am."

Zayn and I stood utterly speechless. I wasn't going to ruin things for myself so it'd be better if I don't speak and let them do the talking.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm saying," Harry continued. "She came with me so now she leaves with me."

Zayn's head immediately turned to me, almost as if he was searching for an answer but from the looks of it, I don't think what I what really matters anymore.

"Are you sure you don't need some--"

"We'll be fine." Harry grabbed his car keys, walking up to us to grab me by the hand and open the garage door out into the garage.

No. This isn't what I wanted. Not Harry. I wanted Zayn.
