A/N 

The chapter doesn't exactly follow the one in the movie and I'm sorry but it's just how it had to happen for the story.

**Baby's POV**

I sat in the corner feeling purposely trapped by my parents as they sat on either side of me. It was as if they were trying to tell me I was still the baby of the family and they still controlled me. It made me feel sick to my stomach.

"Daytime, night time, any hour

Weather rain or shine

Games and lectures

Jokes and music

Happily combine"

I watched Lisa with envy as she sang on stage, I wasn't envious of her singing but I was envious of her freedom. Mom and Dad were never as strict on her as they were on me.

Suddenly Daddy got up and walked over to Randy I watched his every movement, he handed Randy an envelope. He looked surprise as he received it. I listened to their conversation as I had nothing better to do.

"Good luck in medical school, son."

"And I wanted to thank you for your help with the Penny situation. I guess we've all gotten into messes." Randy says smugly.

"What?" my father responds a disgusted look on his face. "I thought Baby told you." He said cautiously realising he made another mistake. " Look, I'm not sure. Penny said so, but you know with girls like that. They're liable to pin it...on any guy around."

My father pulled the envelope out of Robby's hand and I smirked as his grin twisted into a frown as he watched his dreams walk away from him. Robby was ruined and that gave me some satisfaction...I guess karma really does have a way of coming back to bite you.

I returned to watching the entertainment...if you can call it that. It really was horrible barely anyone up there had any talent including Lisa.

Mr Kellerman walked on stage to start his singing part and all I wanted to do was get up there and hit him for taking away the man I loved. It wasn't Darry who stole those wallets but because he was from the poor side of the tracks and I was from the rich he was blamed.

"But the heartbeats of vacation

There no cares are seen

So let's join in just one last chorus

Visitors, staff and guests

What we've shared won't be forgotten

Old friends are the best"

I missed Darry, I missed the way he made me feel so independent and free.

I hated the world and how it worked, I used to think I wanted to go and solve world hunger and poverty but now I really just want to prove to people money doesn't make you who you are.

I was so bored there was nothing to do and the singing made me cringe.

I was ready to get up and leave and I would but again...I was trapped. My parents kept shooting me angry glares. I think they were annoyed because I wasn't more interested or excited in Lisa's performance.

I hear a bunch of murmurs come from the door way I try to see what is going on but I can't because of the stupid cement beam in my way.

However it soon makes sense what all those murmurs were about as he stands in front of me in his black leather jacket and jeans. Just his appearance made any girl melt...but it wasn't just his appearance I loved.

He made eye contact with me and I knew I must have looked like a fool sitting there, my mouth agape staring at him like he was some sort of foreign species.

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner."

He states. "Come on." my parent's faces were horrified but mine was smiling I was filled with excitement and true happiness as he grabbed my arm and made me follow him. It wasn't until we reached the stage I even knew where we were going.

He let go of my arm and grabbed the microphone by now all the other 'entertainers' had gone off stage.

"Sorry about the disruption, folks...but I was going to do the last dance of the season." He paused and looked at me I nodded for him to continue. I look over in the back and see Ponyboy and Sodapop grinning as they greet everyone.

"Last week somebody told me not to. So I'm gonna do my kind of dancin' with a great partner... who's not only a terrific dancer... but somebody who's taught me that there are people...willing to stand up for other people no matter what it costs them. Somebody who's taught me...about the kind of person I want to be. Miss Frances Houseman."

I smile sheepishly and blush embarrassed as he gestures to me. Everybody claps except of course my parents, Neil and Mr Kellerman.

Darry walks off stage and leaves me on; the lights turn off with a loud click and I am left in a spotlight which makes me feel nervous. It reminds of the time I danced at the resort with Darry when Penny was in surgery. I was so nervous that night and I was no different tonight.

Everyone's eyes were on me...there was nothing to distract them which was even worse.

**Cyndi's POV**

I stood there amongst the other staff bored out of my brain. The 'entertainment' as they called it was ear piercing shit. I wish Darry and Penny had done it...at least it would have been interesting.

I think I was more dis-interested though when Mr Kellerman walked on stage I was so angry with him. He was the reason why Darry, Ponyboy and most importantly Sodapop left. It was because they were poor greasers. Yet he acted like everything was okay as he sung his part in the worst voice I've ever heard.

As soon as I was finished here I was going after Sodapop because I knew in my heart he didn't mean a thing he said.

I heard the door open behind me I looked around to see Darry walk in my heart skipped a beat as I saw Sodapop walk in behind him. He immediately made eye contact with me and froze in place. I manage a meek smile and start to walk towards him, he walks towards me and we meet in the middle.

"I'm so sorry...I didn't mean a word I said. I was just trying to protect you. I know you want to travel when you get out of here and I didn't want you to settle for plain old me in a dead beat town I just want you to have everything you have ever wanted because I love you Cyndi." His voice broke once in the middle of his explanation. I place my hands on either side of his face and bring his forehead to mine. "Don't you get it? As long as I'm with you Soda I have everything I want." He smiles before leaning in and kissing me. I really knew my future was Sodapop now.

**Baby's POV**

I look into the back to see Sodapop and his girl kissing and it makes me smile.

I hear the music start and I know the song instantly; it is my favourite at the moment. I look over to see Darry walk over to me slowly. He grabs me in his strong hold and dips me down, suddenly all my nerves vanished and all I focused on was his eyes.

I didn't even know what I was doing I just followed his lead and had fun. It was going by in a blur. My feet moved one after another in a way I couldn't comprehend.

Darry kissed my hand and then jumped off the stage; I threw my head back in laughter. He was crazy.

I watched as he danced with the other dancers down the aisle. He looked so happy...but I knew what was coming next we didn't need to say anything I just knew. I was nervous but at the same time I trusted him with every fibre of my being and I knew he would never drop me. So as the dancers helped me down from the stage I ran to him as fast as I could.

His strong arms lifted me above his head almost effortlessly and for a second I felt like I was flying. I couldn't describe the amount of excitement and joy I was feeling at this very moment.

A mass of applause and cheers broke out echoing throughout the hall.

He eventually put me down and as he did so everyone got up and started dancing.

He pulled me close to him and I put my hands around his neck he stared deeply into my eyes and started lip syncing to the words which perfectly fit the way we felt.

Now l Had the time of my life

No, I never felt this way before

Yes, I swear It's true And I owe it all to you

It made me laugh and smile. I leant in to kiss him.

He pulled away and led me through the crowd towards the exit; where we were going? I had no idea but I didn't care. Daddy stopped us in the archway He grabbed Darry's arm.

"I know you weren't the one who got Penny in trouble. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong." I grinned because this was the kind of kindness Darry had always wanted from Daddy. I could feel his happiness radiating off of him.

Daddy turned his head to me memories played behind his eyes; sadness but also a little pride showed on his face "You looked wonderful out there." I couldn't help but grin I literally threw my hands around his neck and hugged him with all my might. "I love you daddy." I whispered in his ear.

We shared one last gaze before I left with Darry; the man who held my future in his heart.

**EPILOGUE**

(5 YEARS LATER)

**Baby's POV**

5 years ago I had the best summer of my life...and definitely the most adventurous. So much happened...I fell in love, tragedy struck, family break downs and I learnt to dance...finally!

5 years ago today Darry and I left to start our wonderful life together with my father's blessing...something I never thought would happen.

Now Darry and I were married and expecting our first child. We were living in his family home. We had repainted it inside and out. The outside was now a lovely ivory with a white picket fence. We brought new furniture and even redid the kitchen and carpets.

You could barely recognise the house now.

Darry had got this big promotion at his roofing company, his boss died a year back leaving the business to Darry because he was such a hard worker and the poor old man had no one else to leave it too. We also inherited a small fortune from it.

The house was now just ours. Sodapop and Cyndi are engaged and travelling in Australia. Cyndi's father died leaving her all their money. I guess this family had a knack for inheriting money.

They were so happy together that you could see it simply in their faces...much like Darry and I.

Ponyboy was now at Harvard studying to be a lawyer. I know. It took us all by surprise as well we were expecting him to go on to study writing but Pony says he wants to "give those a chance when nobody else is willing to give it to them...much like he needed in his life".

He got in on a full scholarship too; Darry was so proud of him...heck we all were.

I picked up the photo from our wedding day which was placed on our dresser. We had a quiet wedding only very close family and friends.

It was a silly picture of the whole gang, Penny and I. We were all making funny faces but you could tell we were having so much fun that's why it was my favourite.

"Yeah that was always my favourite to." Penny sighs from the door way with baby Johnny in her arms.

He was only a few months old Dal and her had gotten married 2 years ago a year after Darry and I.

Dal was now working for Darry in the roofing company which was sometimes a good and bad thing depending on the day. Especially when Dal would get thrown in the cooler but to his credit he has been trying his best to be on good behaviour for Penny and Johnathon.

They named him after Johnny...he died 3 years ago. His parents just finally took things TOO FAR. We heard his screams from our house and we tried to run to him but he was gone before we got to him.

The pain was still fresh as though it had happened yesterday; tears welled up in my eyes but I blinked them away quickly. Our wedding photos were the last pictures ever taken of Johnny alive.

"It's a great photo." I murmur turning to face her. She looked exhausted which frightened me slightly as to what I will be like after my baby is born.

"He was awake all night." She groaned I waddled over to her in my heavily pregnant state; I was ready to pop any day now.

I took Johnny from her arms carefully "Use our bed and sleep for a while. I'll look after Johnny." I smile motioning to the bed and slightly bouncing Johnny while rocking him.

She shook her head and yawned "no Baby...I can't do that." "Yes you can. Besides it will give me more practice." I whisper gently pushing her towards the bed.

"Thanks Baby." She fell down on the bed and fell immediately to sleep. I walked to the living room and sat Johnny down on the floor. I spread a blanket out and then moved him so he was sitting on it.

I saw the baby bag where Penny had dumped it by the door. I grabbed some of the stuffed toys out of it and put them in front of Johnny who mostly just tried to eat them.

"Baby?" I looked up towards the door to see Darry smiling down at me with a bouquet of flowers in his arms.

"What's the flowers for?" I ask trying to stand up but failing miserably because of my huge belly.

He put down the bouquet in the cream fabric couch and helped me up. "I swear I can't wait to be skinny again." "Well I think you look beautiful." He kisses me "it's not my vanity its practicality. Anyway what are the flowers for?" "Just because I love you and we have been married for 3.5 years now. Happy three and a half year anniversary". "I swear you are so corny sometimes." I smirk before kissing him.

He breaks away and looks down at Johnny "Did we have another kid I don't know about?" I laugh and follow his gaze. "No Penny is just exhausted so I let her sleep in our bed for a bit."

"Oh that reminds me Baby. Your father rang me at work today he still wants us to go visit him for Christmas."

"I don't know Darry. With the baby and all it could be dangerous. I just don't want to risk it." I break away and walk towards the kitchen. I grab a slice of chocolate cake from the ice box and go back to the living room.

"Baby it will be perfectly safe. Don't you trust me? I mean I did lift you over my head without dropping you." "I know and you've never let me forget it either." I respond with a mouthful of food. He smiles and kisses me again.

"Baby!!!" Two-Bit exclaims as he walks a beer bottle in hand. I shhhd him immediately as I was trying to get Johnny to sleep.

Steve followed in behind him with his arm around his fiancé, Evie. They had been together for a few years now.

Two-bit was still the same though getting drunk whenever he could and not settling down with anyone. He was ready to a few years back but she just left one day with no explanation. It was strange to say the least.

"Why are you looking after Johnny?" Steve asks sitting on the couch with Evie in his lap. "Because Penny is sleeping in the other room. The poor thing is exhausted." "That will be you soon." Evie says furrowing her eyebrows together. "I know...I can't believe it...any day now." "And we're very excited." Darry says coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my middle.

"Can you please go and put Johnny in his crib?" I ask and carefully handing him the now peacefully sleeping baby.

Dally walked in a few seconds later "Hey." He groaned lighting a cigarette. "Hey" we all replied at odd times.

"Where's Penny and Johnny?" he asks looking around the room "Penny's asleep in our room and Johnny's napping in his crib." Dally nods and rubs the bridge of his nose. "Man my back is killing me."

"Lean forward." I say as I walk towards the chair he does as I say and I start massaging the kinks out of his shoulders. I used to do it all the time for Darry when he used to carry the bundles of roofing.

"Shoot Baby...you should be a professional at this." I laugh and shake my head. "No way."

"Y'all staying for dinner?" I ask stepping away from Dally.

A collection of yes come from them. I nod and head for the kitchen when a searing pain goes through my abdomen I clutch the wall for support. Darry immediately rushes towards me hunching over with me trying to be face to face. "Baby is everything okay." I shake my head and grimace in pain. "No. The baby's coming." I manage to squeak out which sends everyone into a panicked flurry.

"Calm down!" Penny cried out as she walked into the living room. "Gettin' all flustered won't help none. Darry I need you to go pack some clothes for both Baby and the baby. Steve help her to the car and Dally when Johnny wakes up meet us at the hospital. Two-Bit and Evie let Ponyboy know."

They all nod and go off to do their thing, Steve and Penny help me out to the car. I was okay now my pain had gone.

Suddenly I felt something trickling down my legs I looked down to see a pool of water "Yep you're in labour alright." Penny said Steve just looked down and made a disgusted face "gross."

We arrived at the hospital and Darry was holding my hand the entire way. Trying to keep me calm when contractions hit. Penny was also there getting me anything I needed. I really did have the best support network anyone could ask for.

"Alright Baby. Time to deliver this baby." The doctor stated happily smiling. I looked and Darry who just nodded anticipation and nervousness covered his face.

"Congratulations it's a girl." The doctor cheered as he placed her in a pink blanket the nurse was holding. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, her squeal filled the room filling me up with joy.

The nurse handed her to me and then they all exited the room. "She's absolutely gorgeous Just like her momma." He sighed squeezing my shoulder. Her little eyes opened revealing icy greeney bluey ones "But she has your eyes Dar." He just grins as wide as he could.

"What should we name her?" I ask. He thinks for a moment "Something original we need to keep that tradition I think." I nod and struggle to think of something original.

"What about Kellerman? Kelly for short?" "I like it." I respond. "Baby girl Kellerman Curtis."

"But nowhere as good as Sodapop or Ponyboy." I looked up to the door to see Sodapop and Ponyboy smiling at us. "Boys! What are you doing here?" I ask in disbelief.

"Well Cyndi and I were on our way home when we arrived Two-Bit and Evie told us y'all were here." Soda smiles walking closer. "And Two-Bit rang me telling me y'all were having my baby niece." Ponyboy follows up. Man had he grown...His jaw was now more pronounced, stubble covered his lower face, he now had more muscle definition like his brothers but his hair was still the same and so were his eyes.

I could see how happy Darry was to see them he two long strides over to them and hugs them. He enwraps them in one of his bear hugs and they all look so happy to see each other. It reminds me of old times when they used to live together under the one roof day in day out.

But now they had gone their separate ways and it made me slightly sad but also real proud of the men they had grown up to be and I just hoped that our little girl could grow up to be as amazing as them.
