**Baby's POV**

"I can't believe it's tonight." I sigh excitedly and nervously as Penny and I go to put on the dress. Then I see Mrs Schumacher an old lady who is also staying here. She dropped her bag "Mrs. Schumacher. Hey, wait, we'll help you." I call out as Penny and I run over to help her. "Such junk. Such junk. Benny Bernstein's Dancing School, that's where I went. George Burns was a teacher. Thank you." She rambled. "You're welcome." I reply and we smile nicely before walking off to get changed.

"Strange she had so many wallets." Penny mutters "agreed." I reply.

"I'll just keep my shoulders down, my head up...my frame locked, stay on my toes..." I say more trying to remember and convince myself I had the slightest idea I knew what I was doing. But I knew I really didn't and I sighed heavily "What if I forget the steps?" I ask Penny who was helping me with my dress. "Pull up, watch the frame. And remember, let him lead you." She reassures in a calming voice she really would be a great mother one day.

It suddenly got really awkward so I tried to ease it but I always fail at doing that. "I'm afraid I'm gonna forget to spike, get dizzy and fall on my face." I chuckle but she doesn't reply so I just start rambling on "No. Don't look at my feet, keep my head up, my eyes open...tension in my arms, my frame locked, seat pulled up..." "Thanks, Baby." She interrupts I turn my full attention to her. "I just want you to know that I don't sleep around...whatever Randy might have told you. And I thought that he loved me. I thought it was something special." She trailed off "Anyway, I just wanted you to know that." I smile at her and nod reassuring her I already knew that because I never thought that.

"So, how does it look?" I play with the two straps of the halter neck making them reveal my boobs more and I giggle. I can be so immature sometimes but I am only 17.

"I'm scared. I'm so scared, Baby." Penny cries as tears run down her cheek. I embrace her in a hug "Don't worry. You'll be fine." I say trying to calm her down. She just sobs into my shoulder for a while and I don't mind I can't imagine what she's going through. Tonight must be terrifying for her.

"Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! That's right. It's Thursday night at Kellerman's. That's bingo night." I hear the MC call from inside. I race up to Lisa who was just about to walk inside with Mother and father. " Lisa, you have to do something for me." I blurt out "I don't have to do anything." I don't listen to her but instead blurt out the rest "Just tell Mom and Dad I have a headache and I'm in bed, okay? Bye." Then I race away before she can stop me.

I meet Darry at his car with my hair and makeup already done and the dress in my arms. "ready" he asks and I nod getting in the back. I quickly and awkwardly got changed in the back seat and within minutes we had reached the other hotel.

"The Sheldrake Hotel is proud to present Darrel Curtis and partner...in ""Mambo Magic.""  The MC announces us but all I can focus on is the eagles in my stomach going crazy...I know the saying is butterflies but this wasn't tiny little nerves these were huge. I was extremely nervous especially with all these eyes on me and Darry but he seemed fine with it.

**Darry's POV**

I was nervous as hell! I hated all these eyes on me I'm normally shy and reserved and not dancing in front of a 100 odd people. I could tell Baby was nervous too...but god she looked gorgeous!

"Relax." I whisper as we walk on. We start to dance and I keep instructing her on what to do "Now spot a lead."

"Wrong way!"

"Over here."

"Ready for the lift?" I ask when we are about to do it she gave me a look of serious doubt. "Come on." I encourage she runs towards me and I get ready but she freezes and does something ridiculous. I just shake it off "Keep going. Keep going." I say and she does as she gives me an apologetic smile. We finish and the crowd erupted into applause, we bow and then she keeps bowing that I have to pretty much drag her off stage.

"...because wherever you are now, I want you to look at the sky. Look at those stars. What a show. Here are The Drifters." The radio plays as awkward silence fills the car and I attempt to fill it "You did good. You worked hard." I praise as I try not to look back at the half naked girl I liked in the back seat despite how much I wanted to.

"I saw that old couple from Kellerman's and I thought that was it." "Me too. Me too...You know, by the second turn you really had it." I say trying to distract myself.  "But I didn't do the lift." She sighs "You did real good." I praise again and she crawls into the passenger seat. "Thanks."  She replies.

 We arrive back at the resort and walk towards Penny's cabin to see how it went. It had been dawning on me all night but I tried to forget it so I could put it all into the dance.

"Johnny!" Sodapop called "Come on. It's Penny." He continued and I raced after him towards her room. "Did you call an ambulance?" I asked as we neared her cabin  "She wouldn't go until you returned. She said the hospital would call the police. She made me promise." Sodapop explained obviously distressed. "He didn't use no ether, nothing." "I thought you said he was a real M.D.?" I yell at my kid brother. We then reach her room and I see Dally next to her bed holding her hand. "He had a dirty knife and a folding table. I could hear her screaming in the hallway. I swear to God,I tried to get in." Sodapop continues to explain.

"It's all right. Darry's here." I try to soothe Penny but it was obvious she was in too much pain to really notice.

**Dally's POV**

I was real apprehensive about letting Penny do this...something just seemed off. I did offer to go with her just before she left but she rejected it saying she wanted me to be here when she came back to comfort her.

I waited anxiously for her and Sodapop to return...it had been 2 hours already... where were they? I then see a car pull up and Soda and jumps out running around to the other side he whips open the car door and gently pulls out Penny cradling her in his arms. I run up to them and take her off him she was almost screaming in pain and was sweating enormously she felt so hot. "What the hell happened?" I harshly whisper not wanting to yell in her ear. "The guy was a fraud, he had a dirty knife and a folding table I tried so hard to get in there I even smashed a chair." "Well did you ring the hospital?" "No she said they would only ring the fuzz. And she wanted to be here with you and Darry when he comes back." I nod and carry her back to her room. "Dally?" she groans "Yeah sweetie...it's ok I'm here. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you no more." I say soothingly as I gently lay her down.

I get a cold face washer and lay it on her forehead. I tried to do anything I could for her 5 minutes later and Soda returned with the rest of her friends and the gang. The gang crowded around the room while Pony helped me cool her down and make her comfortable.

I then just sat next to her as Ponyboy gave me a defeated look. I held her hand and hoped for the best...HECK I even prayed.

A few minutes later and Darry came rushing in with Sodapop right behind him but that broad was in and out in seconds...some friend...
