"Babe!" Michael yelled from deeper inside the apartment. "Hurry up!"

Adelaide rolled her eyes, finally stepping outside of the washroom after re-checking her perfected messy bun (she didn't see how it was supposedly "effortless"- it took an endless amount of tries to get it right).

"You look pretty," Michael whispered into her ear as she rushed up to him, sending shivers going down her spine.

"That tickles," she mumbled, glaring at him playfully. "And I'm wearing a sweater and skinny jeans."

"Yeah, so what? You still look great," Michael complimented, winking and reaching behind her to grab him phone off the table by the door.

Michael and Adelaide had dated for two years (yes, she has seen the best of him), and it was fifty minutes away from 2017.

"Hold on a moment, I need to get something before we go," Michael says, handing Adelaide his phone. "Wait outside for me, Luke's there. Stay with him."

Adelaide nodded in response as he rushed away to grab whatever he needed before the clock struck midnight, and did what her boyfriend (!!!) instructed her.

"Hi, Luke," Adelaide greeted with a grin, running up to her tall friend. "What's up?"

"I'm just waiting for Michael to get his ass out here so we can get to the spot in time." He rolled his eyes irritatedly, checking the time on his phone. "How's life?"

"It's great," she replied, sitting down on the sidewalk and setting Michael's phone on the ground. "I've never been better."

"So you mean you feel even better than when you lost your virginity to Michael?" Luke asked with a small smirk.

"No, that was the best experience of my life and nothing would ever top that," Adelaide said dryly with a small snort.

"I'm sure it was," he chuckled.

"What was?" Michael asked, making Luke and Adelaide jump.

"Nothing," Adelaide sang, handing Michael his phone back to him and allowing Luke to help pull herself up.

"I'm sure it was," Michael said, doing a terrible impression of his friend. Luke laughed, dusting himself off.

"Let's get to the place before midnight, yeah?"

-

"Three minutes 'till midnight," Ashton announced loudly.

It was a nice thing that they all arranged. They had set up a spot on a large, open field, the moon on full display. Everyone was sitting on the grass, just waiting for the big moment where the month, day, hour, and year all changed to happen. There were fans, too - just around ten or so, not too many. It was peaceful, and also exciting, if that made any sense.

"Adelaide?" Michael spoke up quietly from beside the girl. Nobody noticed - everyone was too caught up in chatting with each other to notice the couple.

"Yeah?" she responded, just as quietly.

"We've been together for a really long time, and, uh, I just wanted to say that Michael - I, I mean - I really, um, I really l-love you," he stammered, stumbling over his words.

"Oh," Adelaide replied, giggling at his difficulty in forming sentences all of a sudden. "I love you, too."

"Um, you're just perfect, and - and I don't really know where I'd be without, um, you, right now," Michael started.

"Two minutes until midnight!" Calum shouted, already intoxicated, making a few people laugh with his slightly-slurred speech.

"You're just - you're just the best thing that's ever happened, um, to me, and I really love you, and...yeah." Michael cleared his throat. "I love how your eyes are literally the color of dog shit, but they're still gorgeous, and I love how you distract me when I'm trying to play the guitar for you, even though I tell you I'm annoyed all the time."

Adelaide turned to look at him, unable to help the smile forming on her lips.

"One minute until midnight," Luke yelled, holding in laughter from some funny thing a fan just told him.

"I love it when you're mad at me, because it's usually something stupid and we end up kissing or some shit, and you also look really hot when you're annoyed." Michael scratched his arm nervously before continuing. "I love it when you can't sleep so you call me and we stay up all night talking about stupid things. I love the chats we have over Twitter, on direct message, I mean. I really love it."

"Michael..." Adelaide trailed off, finally realizing what was happening.

Ten.

"Oh, fuck, um, Adelaide," Michael says, speeding up.

Nine.

"I really, really, really love you."

Eight.

"And I just have one question."

Seven.

"That, um, I need your answer to."

Six.

"Fuck, shit, fuck."

Five.

"Um...I, uh, fuck."

Four.

"Will you, um..."

Three.

Michael fumbled with the small black box, almost dropping it in the process.

Two.

"Fuck. Shit. Damn it."

One.

"Wanna, like, get married?" he asked as everyone shouted and cheered around them. Michael opened up the box to reveal almost the most prettiest ring Adelaide had ever seen. Well, to her, at least.

Adelaide almost felt like screaming and fangirling, feeling like the fan that got a DM from Michael Clifford two years ago.

"Well?" Michael asked, looking worried.

"Fuck yeah," Adelaide laughed, wrapping her arms around Michael's neck. Their lips collided, and the whole world was drowned out, and there was nothing but them. Nobody even seemed to notice it.

For once, there were no screaming fans, blinding lights, mobs, or camera flashes. It was just them, surrounded by grass, and moonlight, and other people oblivious to the scene occurring ten feet away from them, all too caught up in the fireworks exploding in the distance.

Michael tugged her closer, smiling against the kiss and causing them to break apart.

"I have something to tell you, too," Adelaide whispered cheekily.

"Oh?"

"I'm pregnant."

"You're what?!" Michael shrieked, attracting the attention of a few people.

"I'm kidding," Adelaide laughed. "I'm not pregnant."

"You made me scream like a girl," Michael stated, horrified.

Adelaide rolled her eyes. "That was actually very amusing, thank you very much."

"Whatever."

"I love you."

"I'm so fucking happy, I'm going to freak out," he mumbled after a while of silence, placing a hand around her waist and pulling Adelaide beside him. "I love you, fuck."

"How much?" Adelaide whispered.

"More than pizza, babe."
