Chapter 6: A bit of a change.
Out in space, in a vast ship, its black and green interior seemed endless while heels clicked across as fast as they could. "Hurry!" Along behind her, Amelia did her best to get Mesogog to keep up, but when he pushed past her and yanked on her arm instead she nearly tripped. "Heels! Heels!" Her scream through the dark halls echoed about as she comically tried to pry off her shoes to carry them.
It only took a couple of seconds to get them off, but that's about all it took for the horde of soldiers to catch up and the sight of the stampede of heavy thick soles startled her. "That way-- that way!" There wasn't a single word from the dino man when he tugged on her again. Her finger directed further down the hall and ran past a bat-looking creature, who heard her hysterical whales. "Sorry! Watch out! Stampede incomiiing!" There was no time to warn Broodwing, whom she recognized from Power Rangers SPD, for those red eyes followed hers and Mesogog's sprint.
Unbeknownst to her, the bat creature hugged the walls to avoid getting trampled by soldiers with SMGs and Rifles. Their laser sights on their guns flailed upon each hasty step they took and flashed across the hall.
"Don't let her get away! Move it!" Solar's voice rang throughout the area as if he had a megaphone in his mouth.
Amelia was determined to reach her destination, for she ignored the voices behind her and occasionally glanced at the back of Mesogog's head. It looks like I managed to get into Emperor Gruumm's ship! If I remember correctly, he has a short temper and if I play my cards right, I could use it to my advantage! It's the best obstacle I can use right now! Her mind was relentless. Thoughts of the bony alien brought a nostalgic memory of how she found his appearance cool as a kid.
Comedic cries filled the halls as she spotted an opened doorway. "There! There! In here!" Her finger pointed hastily and ran ahead of the dino man, straight into a Monitoring Room. She cared not if she caught anyone's attention or that Gruumm stood from the unexpected occurrence. All she thought about was to escape the soldiers and she pushed Mesogog in with both of her hands.
"Hi! Hello! Sorry! In a hurry! No time to explain!" Then and there she dropped her shoes, sprinted to the doorway, and ran her fingers swiftly along its frame. When she felt a button, the doors hissed shut, and a squeal of glee escaped her lips. "Yay!" It was more of a guesstimate than an assumption, that there would be a button to close it. Not another second was wasted when she ran to the prehistoric man's side, fished around for one of her Chemic Bombs, and pulled it out of one of her many pockets. "Horde of soldiers! Don't ask! Sorry for intruding! We needed an obstacle!" Her blue eyes glanced at the dumbfounded, head-tilting Emperor, and quickly put the bomb back.
"Where are we?!" Mesogog hissed in his raspy voice and leaned close to her face, none too happy that she brought them to an unknown, not-so-safe location.
"I'll tell you later! For now-- we have approximately fifteen seconds before they manage to bust the door down! If I use my Chemic Bomb, it could be a waste!" As she explained, albeit panicked, she spun around as a dog would to its tail trying to dig into her lab coat. "That leaves me to this!" Out came two vials of different colors. Facing the Emperor, she pressed her back against Mesogog who did the same, and she began to shake the tubes.
A cute little dance to pass a few seconds of her time, her tan hands tipped one of them just so a tiny droplet could leak over its edge and let it drip into the other. "There!" Both thumbs laid over the holes of the tubes and grinned. "Five more seconds!" Peering around the dino man's shoulder, she could see the Laser Bullets cut through the metal of the door and the sound of the guns on the other side. "Three!" She prepared, pulled back the tubes close to her waist, and hunched over. "One!" As if on cue, the door flung off of its hinges, which startled a child who sat nearby and chucked the tubes.
Quickly behind Mesogog again, she crouched close to his calves, plugged her ears, and expected the worst sound possible. There it was, a massive explosion that made cries of pain and grunts fill the halls and the room. One, two, three, four, five seconds she waited, until she stood up, peeked around his broad shoulders, and saw the horde on the floor. "Woo!" Though they weren't dead, they were scattered about and tried to get back to their feet.
"Sorry for intruding, again! No time to explain!" Across the room, she pulled on the dino man's hand and halted just before the groaning mess in front of her. Wait! Wait, wait, wait! I'm being rude, I need to give him an apology gift! I made two, so it shouldn't be an issue.~ Her thoughts were quick, for she spun on her feet, ran to a very confused Gruumm, and pulled out a vial from the various slots in her coat. "Here- here! An apology! It heals your wounds rapidly! Thanks! Take care! Toodle-loo! Bye!" As she sprinted back to Mesogog and stepped closer to the horde, a deep, and gravelly voice made her halt.
"What gives you the right to storm into my ship?! Who are you?!" Red glinted from the rubies he had as eyes, for she could see restraint on the vial she gave him to try and not break what was given.
"I'm being chased by soldiers! Obviously! There's no time for introductions-- They'll be back on their feet within another minute!" A bit too fast, she spoke, hardly gave Mesogog a moment to speak, and pulled out her USB-sized device.
From her temple, it collected the coordinates, and when she pointed to the side, the same portal appeared. It left the Emperor speechless, including Broodwing who caught up to see the massive horde and the platinum hole. "Bye! Thanks again! Can you be the awesome Emperor you are and take care of my pursuers?! Yes? No? Maybe so? Okay then!" Again, her words were quick, for she sped back through the portal and left the group there, accidentally forgetting her shoes; of course, she made sure Mesogog went through first.
However, neither of the two was aware of a man in a white trench coat recovering from the explosion. "You redheaded, piece of bacteria!" Ace Solar pushed past the bat, stepped over his men, and pulled out the same USB-sized device as hers. "Get up!" His harsh kick to one of their feet made his soldiers respond with a struggling movement and watched them slowly stand up.
"Who... Might you be?" Gruumm made slow, careful steps closer, tightened the grip on his staff, and lowered it toward him. Crimson made the orb on his weapon and his ruby eyes glint in the shadows.
"That's none of your business, now is it? Don't... Get any ideas," Solar spat back with a glare that many would run from before he lifted his device and made another portal open. "Go! Move it! Let's head back to the lab! I need to figure out where she went!" As if on cue, his soldiers ran through and he was the last to do the same.
Everything was quiet now, the Emperor had stayed in his position and hadn't moved. "I think..." He trailed off, stood up straighter, and grumbled. "I need to rest more," As he returned to his seat, he spotted the dark heels on the floor ahead and watched the child close by run to them.
~~~~
She managed? Of course, she did... Mesogog's eyes examined his lab as he stood in front of a flash of platinum that momentarily lit up the area. I didn't have to interfere or fight. It would have been a waste of energy on my part to fight those miserable humans. There was a relieved sigh when he saw that his lab was intact, save for his shattered, sacrificed clock that would probably be crying right now if it were a living thing.
"We did it!"Amelia's cheery tone broke the silence in the air. He couldn't help but glance at her from the side to see her hands up and her bright smile. "Thanks for shielding me again! Now that we have more time, I need to check on my Franken Baby!" Mesogog's muscles stiffened when he felt her arms wrap around his stomach, a hug she rarely gave, and watched her sprint across the room.
A hug. It felt so strange to him. It was a kind of contact that wasn't fueled by anger or any means to restrain another, that much he knew. But to receive one, he couldn't understand the reasoning behind it other than appreciation or a form of friendliness. However, it was the warmth he felt that made him more uncomfortable. His golden gaze glued themselves to her backside, as she removed her lab coat and breathed out a content sigh.
"Mr. Mesogog, do you have air conditioning? It's way too hot in here, especially after running a marathon-- even though it's only been about ten minutes or so.~" Her giggles didn't go ignored, but her actions did when she rubbed her face.
His slow trek along the tables kept his distance from her, as his eyes were fixated on the thin material masking her legs. He found himself looking a bit longer than intended, for she turned around and gave him a quizzical stare, which he quickly moved his attention from. "I prefer the heat," As he occupied himself with the test tubes near him and picked one up, he answered.
"Apparently, so does my Franken Baby.~ I noticed it grew more since I last checked on it. And you know what?! I should take a break! I keep forgetting to eat... Do you want me to go out and grab us both something?" The taps of her feet told him that she was jogging up to him, so he kept his back to her and grumbled.
"You do not have the means to pay," He wanted to roll his eyes, but he knew better than to be unprofessional like that, so he continued to swirl the contents in the vial he took and examined its chemicals. However, he froze when he felt a hand reach past his face.
Tan fingers wiggled and a growling, deep, voice, came from her. A silly antic on her part that he'd probably have to get used to since any attempt at intimidation would only make her give a witty comeback, regardless of the consequences. "Meeesogooooog...~ You cannot deny me!~ Thy inferior stomach groooowls with anticipation. Tend to its needs, lest thine hunger extends and worsens!~ Muahahahaha," Her pretend, evil laughter, deep and rough, made him want to bite at her fingers but found it more pleasurable to just watch her suffer at her failed attempt; he saw her hand go limp on his arm after a moment of trying. Suddenly, she made it turn into a spider and made the fingers crawl up his shoulder. "Hiss! Nom- nom.~" Her index and middle finger playfully swiped at the collar of his shirt.
Now becoming rather aggravated, he whirled around, plucked a blue card from the inside of his attire, and showed it to her. "Steak," Growling at her persistent actions, he finally gave in and offered it to her. He didn't understand why he just didn't find other ways to torture her for the disrespect. But then again, she wasn't his pawn despite his agreement with her to stay there if she proved to be useful. So far, she's only proved to be a pest, save for the unique inventions she's created. Had she not become a point of entertainment for him during her project runs, he would've brainwashed her by now.
When he saw her eyes light up it caused him to lean back a little. "Rare, Medium Rare, or thoroughly cooked?!" Her swift grab for his card and a cute squeal from her, almost made him gasp if he didn't have such amazing control over his composure.
"Rare," His claws readjusted the edges of his shirt when he watched her hop like a bunny and giggle.
"Okay! I'll be back! Thank you- thank you!" Across the room and out the door, his eyes followed her form until she was gone.
She's everywhere... All the time. Where does she get this energy from? Yes, she can be annoying, she is a pest, but she certainly beats his boredom. Nonetheless, it all angered him. It was strange. He felt something he didn't quite understand and it irked him. Resulting in aggressively hissing and slamming a clenched claw on the station full of chemical tubes. The strength behind his hit nearly dented the surface and harshly jiggled the vials. Red talons dug deeply into the metal, which left nasty marks in their path, but he didn't care.
"These human emotions are beginning to annoy me," Beginning, wouldn't be the right word. No, it was already annoying him, and it wrecked his nerves the more he thought about it.
However, a thought came to him. How long has it been since we left? She claimed ten minutes at most... Ten minutes could be a lot longer in other worlds since time passes differently. Although the device she uses allows her access to various worlds, one must have the thought, the time, and place as to where to place the portal. I have this distinct feeling... She knew about our world before she arrived. How she spoke to the alien in the other world, was as though she knew him. I will... Get answers. Growling, fuming, he whipped around to make his way out of the lab to find her and catch up.
~~~~
Up ahead was Elsa, Dr. Ray couldn't help but sprint to her with a bright grin and leaped to her side to walk with her. "Hi-- hello! I'm going out to grab something for Sir Mesogog!~ He wanted Steak, so I plan to get some Steak and Fries somewhere. Do you know of any good places?" Up and about in the air, she waved the blue card with her fingers and leaned over to see the goth's confused expression.
"I... Might know of some. But why should I tell you? You seemed to have been able to get around well on your own when you retrieved the drinks. Besides... You're not even properly dressed," The disapproving scowl on her lips told Ray enough.
When her blue eyes cast down to examine herself, the slow realization made her mouth gape. Her pantyhose was more torn than before, she lost her shoes, her cute blouse was stained, and her lab coat needed to hit the washer. "You're right! Dear lord-- how long have I gone without noticing my current state?!" Crimson tainted her cheeks when she reached down to graze her fingers along the ripped holes in her coverings.
"Because you were too busy to notice. Come on... I doubt lord Mesogog would appreciate someone who's unkempt," Amelia didn't have much time to protest before she felt the sudden grip on her wrist pull her along and disappear through an invisiportal.
It was at that moment when they left, that the said dino man rounded the corner and tried to speak; he was too late.
Later, in the closest town to Reefside High, Elsa who donned her disguise took her to places and bought her a few things. Among the crowd of people, Amelia was forced into a clothing store and many outfits were shoved at her face. People murmured and sent curious glances at Dr. Ray when she whaled and nearly fell backward into a changing room.
"Don't come out until you're wearing at least one of these," Even though this wasn't something the goth would normally do, she did have some form of fashion sense, albeit a gothic sense, and picked out mostly black leather.
"B- But, these show too much of my skin!" Left and right, after Amelia stood up, she locked the door to change. The black leather skirt was a bit looser than her restricting one and had bits of blue and red sparkling gems made into it. She was careful to remove her clothing and slip on the rest, however, her gulp and nervous sweat were proof of how uncomfortable she felt. Her gaze looked down at her exposed tan legs to glare at her nasty scars. "What if someone sees?" This time, in a weaker voice, she asked and did her best to tug on the bottom of the skirt in an attempt to hide them.
"Then let them see. It's not like people are going to care about what you look like. As long as you look decent, that's all that matters. You've been in workplaces before, even scientists dress themselves better for their jobs," Dr. Ray could almost hear a scoff in her words from the other side of the door.
"Y- You're right! You're right, it makes sense. Who in their right mind would look at me anyway, hahaha! I'm as ugly as a pile of dung!~ So I shouldn't care about what I look like around others, as long as I'm happy with it!" Her nervousness died when she came to that conclusion and nodded to herself.
Fingers picked up a black, stand-collar, crop top. The collar reached up and around her neck, exposed her shoulder blades, and shoulders, and thankfully reached past her stomach. Next, a jacket. Black leather rolled-up cuffs that had a single button to keep it in place, and the end of it stopped just above her ribs. "Can I at least have some new pantyhose or leggings?" Regardless of her new confidence, which came from assuming no one would look at her, the scars on her thighs and calves made her reluctant.
"Fine! If it'll make you hurry up!" If Ray was able to see, she would've noticed the roll of Elsa's eyes. When a package was slid under the door for her, relief made Amelia sigh.
Moments turned into minutes. She was dressed, and she managed to get her hair fixed somehow, which took a few more minutes to brush and adjust into a style; next was the food then back to the lair. Soon, heels clicked against the floor down Mesogog's lair, as a couple of bags in her hands rustled during her trek.
Elsa hadn't followed along, since she claimed she had something to take care of, so that left her to wander about on her own in search of the beast. "Siiiir Mesogog! Where art thou my evil critter?! I have some food for yoooou!" Short, black leather boots continued to thud, as she turned into a room to peek through the door. No sign of him there. Further she went, for she explored the halls and entered room after room until just a bit ahead of her she spotted her target. "There you are!" Cried out the redhead, which Mesogog halted in his step, and saw him sluggishly turn to her.
It was as if time had slowed, though, to him it had but to her, all she saw was a mouth agape and his hands unclasped from his backside. Amelia wasted no time catching up to him, flashing her pearly whites and adjusting her glasses. "Don't worry about the outfit! Elsa paid for it! I owe her big time.~ Anyway-- here!" One of the bags was offered to him, steak and fries, which he slowly took. His sluggish movement went unnoticed when she reached into her bag and pulled out a box of KFC. "Come on-- let's eat! I bet your inner monster is just roooaaaring with hunger!~" Her eyes were focused on the hall as she ran past, she thought nothing of his frozen posture and gaping jaw. Considering what Elsa had said, now she knew that no one would ever look at her with interest or anything. Because deep down, despite how nicely she cleaned up, she knew that all of her scars and the red curly hair weren't attractive in the least.
~~~~
When he heard her voice behind him, he planned to interrogate, to threaten her to answer the questions that plagued his mind. But when he saw her, his breath hitched at that moment upon the black leather outfit and her curly red locks tied into a side, puffy ponytail. The strands framed her face nicely, the black eyeliner made her blue eyes stand out more, and the small gems on the skirt complimented her. Of course, everything was covered so he wasn't able to see much of her skin to check for more scars.
The bag in his hand wasn't closed tight enough, he could smell the delicious steak from it. Aside from that, he was too distracted by her to peek inside to see why the bag weighed more than it should have. As he followed her into the room with multiple chemistry stations, he watched her pull a chair close to one of the surfaces and take out her food.
It was amusing to see her fight with the bag, grumbling, to yank the styrofoam takeout dish from the plastic. When it was plopped down, her fingers picked at the edges to pry it open, and inside was none other than the KFC. Mashed potatoes, green beans, and chicken breast. "Yeeees.~ You're mine!~ I shall devour every square inch of your being! Straight down to your very souuuul... Which they don't have! Muahahaha! I am the evil among other evils! I am evil to evils! Beware of my sharp plastic fork of evilness!" Her attempt at a deep, gravelly, intimidating voice quickly switched to her usual cheery one at the end and it almost made a glint of amusement shine in his gold hues.
Now she is talking to her food... He couldn't make up his mind if he felt annoyed or amused at this point. His slow steps toward another surface far behind her indicated that he wanted some space away so he could eat in peace. He ignored the sounds she made as she ate, for he pulled a seat out and pried open his bag. There, lying inside was Steak and Fries in a styrofoam container similar to hers.
When he pulled it out and opened it, there was something else he spotted in the bag. Sluggishly he took it out and stared at a medium-sized bag of gummy worms shaped like insects. "Why is there a bag of... Candy insects in here?" For once he felt rather concerned. As if he had touched something repulsive, his hand went stiff when the bag fell with a thud onto the surface.
"Oh! I thought you'd like to try some! I didn't know if you liked Chocolate, peanut butter, mint, or any other kind of candy bar! I never did think of Ice cream though," At the end of her sentence, he didn't get to see her place a finger to her chin in thought and chew on some potatoes.
Don't say anything... Otherwise, she will continue. Mesogog pondered for a moment and pushed the Gummy snack away as though it were poison. With a single claw, he chopped up the rarely-cooked steak and began to eat. However, upon the sound of a chair moving, he stopped mid-chew when he saw her chair plop next to him and her food onto the surface.
"Sorry-- You just looked lonely sitting here all by yourself, hehehe.~" Her insane giggles met his ears when she settled in her seat and continued to eat. "Did you drink your energy drinks yet?" He could tell she was trying to strike up a conversation, much to his distaste.
Conversations weren't his thing, silence, like a predator, was. Unless he'd count the times he talked to Elsa and Zeltrax about their plans and progress, like a boss to his workers. The lack of answers was a clear enough indication that he had no desire to talk, which seemed to only encourage her to keep going.
"I'll take that as a noooo.~ Anyway, if it's not your kind of thing-- what sort of drinks are you into? Wait-- don't tell me..." She trailed. From his peripherals, he saw her bottom lip tuck in to expose her pearly whites and lift her fingers like claws. "Blooood!~ You need blooood to survive!~ Unless you're like a cat who likes to drink milk. Hehehehe, I can't imagine a dinosaur acting like a feline and meowing!" Once more, her thoughts led her into a fit of giggles, which he couldn't help but roll his eyes at and growl.
Now is the time to ask. She will answer me... Whether she'd like to or not. Despite her antics, his mind was on one thing, her portal device. "You knew about our world from the start," With a claw he prodded a Steak piece he cut up and put it into his mouth. He didn't need to see her to know she froze in her spot, with her mouth agape to take another bite. "You're hiding another secret. Tell me, or I will be sure it'll be the last secret you keep," If it wasn't for the food, he would've had his hands free to strangle her right then and there.
A sigh escaped from her, so when his head moved like a dinosaur toward her and glued his eyes to her contemplative ones, he growled. "If I tell you... You'll get pissed and you'll try to kill me. That-- or you'll most likely torture information out of me to use what I know to your advantage and I can't let you do that," There wasn't an ounce of caution in her words. Unlike Elsa and Zeltrax who would stammer or think long and hard on the right words to say. "Even beyond my knowledge, you can't torment me with your telepathic ability. But I'm not as arrogant to believe that's all you have for torture... Hehehehe.~" There, for a moment, he saw crimson fill her cheeks and it confused him greatly. However, it quickly faded when she cleared her throat to continue. "Asiiiiiide from that! All I can tell you is that-- if I do tell you, this world's future would be at stake. Maybe... Possibly... It'd depend on how stupid you'd have to be to want to try and change fate to suit your desires," It felt as if a fiery block sat on top of his head, he hated how she assumed the worst if she were to tell him.
She did make a good point, though, regarding changing fate. Now he was more curious. One question was answered and a new one replaced it. "What kind of fate is there in store? I wish to bring the dinosaurs back to its former glory. To-" Before he could ramble on about his plans for mankind, her finger pressed against his mouth to shush him and it took him by surprise.
"I know-- I know. You haven't told me in person, but I already know what you plan to do. You want to turn humans into hybrids like yourself, right? To bring back the dinosaurs somehow. I hate to say this but I doubt that will work. Considering the chemistry in human beings and how every person's DNA is different-- you're looking at a global wipe. If humans survive the mass evolution you plan to put on people, most likely the ones who do live will die over time due to a DNA imbalance. They would wither and die a lot faster. If you want to make a hybrid, you have to do it right!" Her bright, cheery smile, after she removed her finger, made his mouth gape momentarily. "Why do you think I'm making my Franken Baby?! You need to experiment more with DNA! Tinker with it to see if DNA mixtures will either fail or not! Creating one from scratch, straight from an Embryo would be a much better way to go about it than forcibly making someone a hybrid!" Her closed eyes, the insane giggles he heard, and the way she easily dismissed any ill intent he might have had within a millisecond kept him speechless.
What got him the most, was how casually she acted instead of simply being afraid of what he'd do to her. "Why are you not afraid of me?" There it was, one of the many questions he had, and picked up a fry to stick into his mouth.
"Why? Because! You're cool!" What she said almost made him spit out the fry he tried to chew and nearly choked over it. "Not to mention I like the dangerous vibe.~ Hehehehe," Giggling once more, he awkwardly looked at her to see another blush on her tan cheeks. "To add-- If I can handle the abuse and torture from Solar-- then I can handle you! Wait..." Upon her words, he saw her stiffen up as if she told a secret she dared not to tell anyone and it made devastation replace her joyous expression. "I- Ignore what I said... No-- forget what I said! How about those Gummies, huh?!" He knew she tried to change the subject by grabbing the gummy bag in front of him.
Tortured and abused? If that is the case, how... Is she so cheerful all the time? Now more questions plagued his mind. There just seemed to be no end to her mystery but judging by how she slipped up, she let her guard down and trusted him with that bit of info and realized it too late. All he could do was stare at her, watch her pry the bag open, and pull out a gummy. The amount of mystery she carried left him more curious about her by the day.
