Chapter 30: The Grand Chase!
The next day came around and the redhead was out cold on the station. She would've seen Elsa a few feet away if she were awake, with her on a stool asleep on top of her folded arms and over the sketch.
Not even the sound of the double doors opening would make her stir, or Mesogog's rather loud words. "I want the serum from that tree," He began after he stood behind the goth when the doors closed. "Before anyone else discovers its secret. Is that understood?" Questioned the beast as he strode around the woman and kept his head low.
"It will be yours," With a smirk, Elsa answered, for she kept the best soldier face she could around Mesogog and showed no signs of unease.
"It had better be... Or you will find yourself in the company of Zeltrax!" With a few waves of his arms and closing the proximity between them, the dino man glared daggers at the goth.
"But he--" Before she could so much as speak, the beast had interrupted with a jerk of his head toward the goth's face.
"Exactly!" Seeing her lean back when he invaded her personal space was pleasing; with that, he turned to look around the room with an extended exhale.
However, the faint breaths he heard to his side, made his head prehistorically turn in Amelia's direction and saw her fast asleep on top of the sketch. "How long was she awake last night?" His lack of aggression in his words proved that his anger subsided momentarily. Silent steps toward her and the subtle move of his arms to his back were meant to show professionalism and authority.
"Sh- She was... Up all night after Anton regained control. She said she wouldn't be able to sleep if she didn't finish it," Answered the goth, but her words weren't enough to make his gaze view her.
Now hovering over Amelia's form, slowly he leaned to the side to look at her face. Out cold she was, not a snore or wheeze from her unless you would count the faint breaths from her open lips. A red claw was used to move strands of red that covered her eyes and in doing so, allowed him a peek at the Facility's layout beneath her face. From the redhead to A.O.D. who stood idly on her other side, he hummed curiously. "What time did she fall asleep?" As if it were an order, expectation filled his golden hues. By a fraction, he saw Angel's head lift to look at him.
"Approximately five hours ago. I assisted with the sketch so she could sleep. However-- she didn't want to sleep anywhere else but here. As my memory serves me, she stated she missed you," Through the robotic feminine voice that sounded as good as any human who spoke, came her answer.
"No one has ever missed me," Quietly, more to himself than to A.O.D., he mumbled. With careful claws, he moved Amelia's head so it would lay on one arm and slid the sketch from beneath her. Into the air and in front of the lights, he examined the layout. This map is complex. There are three levels to his Facility and the part that looks to be the hardest to reach is underground. Intense eyes reflected the eager blood-lust for Ace, he couldn't wait to rip the very flesh from his bones and listen to the screams he could make. All for the sake of revenge over ambushing him, running a muck through his Fortress, sending death machines after them, and taking and torturing his woman.
"Mother ordered me to begin a daily patrol of your Fortress and to assign you the role of Father. Father, is a second-in-command of my AI. She told me to inform you, that she trusts you enough not to take advantage of my weaponry and not to order me to attack the individuals you called Power Rangers," Explained Angel, for Mesogog whipped his head to the robot in pure and utter surprise, and nearly lost the grip on the sketch.
"Trust... Is a difficult thing to come by, and Loyalty is a valued asset here. Which means, you will listen to my commands without question?" As he folded the sketch and walked around his slumbering woman, he saw A.O.D's head follow him with a couple of turns of her robotic eyes.
"Precisely. I am to protect Mother no matter the cost and according to Mother's orders, I am to protect Father as well," The robot answered with no hesitation and observed his movement. They stared at one another for the longest time, that was until Mesogog shifted his attention to the peacefully asleep redhead.
So she finished the layout and made A.O.D. assign me as a secondary owner. She missed me? No one has ever missed me. Briefly, he pondered but what confused him the most was that she missed him and he couldn't wrap his head around that.
"Father. Before she had continued with the sketch, after you left, she made a sweet delicacy for you. You will find it near your Throne," Angel's words made the beast's head perk up at that and slowly view the seat.
With a curious tilt of his head and sluggish steps, he inched closer and saw a small silver platter with chocolate chip cookies in the middle. One step, two, he scaled and stared at the dessert hungrily. A single claw was used to poke at the cookie on top of the pile and it surprised him when there was softness to it. They weren't crispy, but moist, so with a hesitant movement he picked one up and brought it to his maw.
And she made these, as well? Amelia was busy. Hmm. He could smell the chocolate and Reese's bits inside, but what made a bubble of excitement in his chest grow was the thought of how she made that for him first before continuing her sketch; he didn't care to hold in a delighted growl deep from his throat.
"Father. I am detecting an increase in hormones and heat signatures. Might I suggest taking a cold--" A.O.D. was about to inform him of his current condition when Mesogog's head whipped to look at her and growled.
"I agree with Amelia. Keep such information to yourself!" If he had a human form, excluding Mercer, his cheeks would've burned like hellfire and it unnerved him. Into his mouth, the softness of the cookie was soon accompanied by the delicious melted chocolate chips and Reese's. The flavor made him pause for a moment and groan, he hadn't had such a thing before unless he counted the times when Mercer would eat dessert. Very slowly, he bit it in half, and chewed. The sugary sensation on his tongue aroused his taste buds the more the cookie was mashed around.
As soon as he popped the other half in and began to chew, an all-too-familiar sound filled the Throne Room. Knowing that Elsa had left, it was just him, Amelia, and Angel. So when he gradually turned to see, there near the double doors was a wide platinum portal that sent him into high alert.
As fast as his feet could, he trotted to the redhead, yanked her into his arms, and watched as A.O.D. took a defensive position in front of them. "B- Beasty?" He didn't look down to see her confused face, but the gasp she heard told him she saw the portal and the incredible number of Cyborgs that came through.
Each one that came out, he started to count and as far as he did there were fifteen. Another came through and this time he heard Amelia shuffle around in her pocket. "A.O.D., do not attack yet! Follow us!" The second he looked down at her, he saw the portal device point to the floor and all three of them soon fell through.
Yes. If her robot attacked, the fight may ruin my experiments and machinery! He was so used to the portal by now that he barely blinked when they descended through the tunnel.
"I'm taking us through a forest in the world Gruumm was in! If we stall enough by running around, it'll give A.O.D. enough time to execute them! And- I'm sorry, I would've picked a better spot but I just woke up and I've hardly had any slee-" A single glance at her and he could see worry on her face.
"Less talking! Focus!" Annoyance filled his mind. The fact that Solar didn't have the guts to face him again and instead, sent a much larger horde of Cyborgs, ticked him off. His sweet revenge would've come early if he had, but now he has to concentrate on keeping them from capturing her.
~~~~
I strictly remember there being a forest in SPD, only one episode I think and it was outside of Newtech City where Z was approached by Morgana. This is the best place to try since there are a lot of trees to get in their way and it will slow them down! Why are there so many Cyborgs?! Panic filled Amelia's mind as she held onto Mesogog's neck and watched as the twenty Cyborgs landed, with heavy metallic clunks out of the portal.
She was relieved to see Angel sprinting close behind him. "Mother. Permission to annihilate the threats?" Over the thuds of Mesogog's shoes, Angel asked and ignored the speedily approaching Cyborgs behind them.
"Permission granted! Take them out a bit at a time. If even one gets too close then there is a chance they will capture Amelia!" For once, the dino man ordered in the redhead's place. His golden eyes spotted one of the Cyborgs leap across tree tops and branches.
This surprised the redhead to see Mesogog take over the situation, but she wasted no time pondering when she could be using her brain power to plan.
Over his shoulder, she gulped and watched as A.O.D.'s arms turned into energy cannons. Above their heads, Angel shot a blast of the hottest energy, for violet light blew off the cranium of the Cyborg that trekked the trees and another to the side when another attempted to lunge. "Eighteen left," Mumbled Dr. Ray, before she reached into her pocket and chucked over a Barrier Bomb.
A large, red energy barrier appeared just in time. Several of the Cyborgs face-planted into the shield and began to stab rapidly at its surface, which quickly broke under the sheer force of fifteen against it. The other three, Amelia saw skillfully parkour and scaled the tree bases around them.
The moment one of the three parted Cyborgs was above Amelia in a tree, A.O.D. was swift to shoot it down and with precision, a blast was sent to another one that approached.
"Sixteen left," From A.O.D. to look in front of them, she saw the roads of Newtech City and how many civilians ran away to not get run over by the stampede. Several cries of fear filled the air, so with a shift of her eyes, she looked at her Beasty. "We can't risk attacking those Cyborgs around civilians! If you can-- try and climb a Skyscraper to get them away from everyone, please!" With pleading hues, she saw him glance at her and grumble.
"What do you take me for? I am not the Hulk!" The annoyed hiss and the glint of anger in his eyes told her he didn't like the idea at all.
"Come on! You have powerful thighs! Dinosaur strength! At least do some parkour to make your way-- Eek!" She squeaked, held onto him tightly, felt and watched him jump high over vehicles. From cars, and fences, to a garage, he leaped.
Over his shoulder, she saw A.O.D. shoot a few blasts at three close Cyborgs that almost grabbed him by the ankle. From her robot's back came those spider-like limbs, for she flew above them and began shooting at more so they could get away. "A.O.D, stay with us!" Cried out the redhead, and she saw Angel look at her and nod. Speeding to catch up, Angel was soon fluttering above their heads deflecting arm blades that tried to cut through her powerful Nano Technology.
Amelia returned her gaze in front of them, however, she sucked in a breath when Mesogog leaped over a giant gap between two apartment buildings. His strong legs let him parkour higher, to which she was thankful, but what surprised her was when Crybots and Orange Heads appeared behind them.
"What the?" Following where they were, she was taken aback when she saw a glimpse of Broodwing on the sidelines watching the chase scene. "Batman over there is trying to help us?" Confused now, her eyes shifted back to the robots that held the Cyborgs back long enough to give them some distance.
"It is probably personal," Mesogog answered and with a great leap, he sped across another gap and came upon a construction site. A tall business building that was in the making, the dino man took that chance to gain more height. From support beam to support beam, he vaulted off each one to reach another. Finally, when they reached the top floor of the structure, he paused and turned to face the horde of Cyborgs that were left.
"There's still too many... Beasty, put me down," Whispering, Amelia was hoping he would do as she said but the growl she received told her he wasn't going to and it made her brows knit. "I'm the one, that has to protect you-- remember?" Again, she tried, saw him glance at her and stare for as long as he could.
When he inched close to her face, those golden hues moved about to examine her expression. "Whatever it is you're planning, make it count! We are cornered! And I will not have you get hurt or kidnapped again! I protect what is mine!" Through fits of growls and faint hisses, his words stunned her.
They affected her, yes, however, the moment the Cyborgs caught up, they all looked to watch the horde gradually approach like pro huntresses. Hesitance in Mesogog's movement was evident as he sat her down and got in front of her.
"Hahaha!" Several claps, and laughter, echoed after Solar stepped out of a platinum portal and pulled off his sinister smile. "Ah. Look at you two. Adorable... Did you honestly think you could outrun this many Cyborgs?" Although Amelia couldn't see since she stood behind half of Mesogog's backside, she was still able to notice the man who hid among the horde.
"Solar! I will have your corpse on a pike when I get my claws on you!" A nasty hiss erupted from the beast, as he leaned over and challenged the man.
"Yeah... I'd like to see you try. You're nothing but dinosaur skin and claws. What artillery do you have against me? Currently-- none," Ace's smile was quickly replaced with a frown and a cold glare at the beast. "You're just a waste of space and time. With you in the way of my database, it makes things more tedious," From there, Amelia gasped when she saw several soldiers sprint out of the portal and crouch with energy SMGs and Rifles.
Several clicks reached their ears when they saw Ace's finger wave, indicating to switch to Paralysis mode. He still donned the super soldier attire and trench coat, yet lacked any weapon on his person.
"She is far more useful and powerful than any database," Through another set of growls, Mesogog answered and lifted an arm as if to put up a shield in front of Amelia, despite standing before her.
"The only thing I made it for, was to globally spread mutation in our world... I created it! It-- belongs to me! You are only delaying the inevitable!" Through a booming voice of anger, Amelia could see the veins in his neck and the gritted teeth he bared.
"A database, eh?" Suddenly, off to the side, out from behind a cement wall that was still being constructed, came Gruumm who donned his ax staff. "I have heard of Cyborgs and robots being the key to taking over a planet... But never have I heard of someone, using a living creature as a database. No. None of that matters now," Lifting his staff and pointing it toward Ace, she and Mesogog watched the Emperor step closer to the man. "I have been waiting for this moment! To exact my revenge! I do not take surprises too kindly!" They all saw his staff charge and flare to life, which earned an outburst from the man.
"Haha, funny!" With a signal to one of the Cyborgs, a simple smirk curled his lips when one of them fired past Gruumm and straight at Mesogog.
The grunt, the blood that came from him, and seeing him fly backward over the edge of the structure made a scream erupt from the redhead's throat. "Mesogooog!" She didn't waste any time, for she went over the edge to fall after him.
He shot him! He shot him! He shot my Beasty! He shot him! He's bleeding! There's so much blood! His shoulder! Over and over she thought and panicked. She didn't care if the others ran to the side to watch them fall, all the redhead knew was what A.O.D. flew after them. The portal device and the Argentavis DNA were quickly pulled out before she took off the coat and let it fly away. "Catch my coat and portal device, Angel!" To her temple, she collected the coordinates and let the device fly up to be caught.
The devastation on her face as she reached her hand out after Mesogog, proved how much she didn't want to lose him and by the look on his face, he was stunned. There's no other way! I need to do this! I don't care if anyone sees me! Tears cascaded and flew in the wind when she flicked the lid off and chugged it down. There was no time for her to tell A.O.D. to use the device, for her body jerked and spun amid her descent.
Bigger, full of tan and red feathers, her body morphed. When blue eyes opened, her wings sprawled, and a cry resonated throughout the air. Her dark tan beak shut when she pulled her wings close so she could dive faster after her man. The second she was beneath him and her wingspan reached its maximum length, there was a tug around her neck that let her know Mesogog hitched a ride. Beasty... My Beasty! He hurt you! He hurt my Beasty! Despite her secret being revealed to anyone who watched the sky, the only thing on her mind was to get him to safety, and what better place than back at his Fortress?
Ahead of her, was A.O.D. It was relieving to see the robot flick the portal open and wait for them to go through. However, she had to close her wings tightly against her body to fit but thankfully, they flew through and were accompanied by Angel.
"No! That redheaded piece of data had Argentavis DNA on her?! How did she manage to get a hold of that?!" Through gritted teeth, he saw them leave through a portal so when he whipped his head around to face his Cyborgs and men, he continued. "Everyone! Return to the Facility! She has reconfigured A.O.D's ownership somehow!" Ace dug into his pocket, pulled out the device, and placed it at his temple. "We're going to need another plan to get my database back and create an EMP machine to wipe out her robot," Furiously he pointed it and made a portal appear, but what he didn't count on was to hear Gruumm speak.
"What you should be thinking about-- is if I am going to vaporize you or not! I do not let people get away with ambushing or attacking me! You will meet your end! If not by my hands... Then by your own creation!" Gruumm was determined to see an end to Solar as much as Amelia and Mesogog. But he knew that his endless army would be crushed with ease by Ace's Cyborgs. The staff pointing at Solar and the crimson glow of his ruby eyes proved his fury over the man.
"Vaporize me? Do you even realize how old that sounds? I'd prefer the words execute or exterminate... Since everyone that seems to get in my way, is nothing but pests!" Quickly he ran through the portal, followed by the Cyborgs, then the soldiers. It wasn't long until Gruumm was alone on top of the structure.
Silence befell the entire area for roughly a minute or two, that was until he saw Broodwing land in front of him and stare curiously with those smaller red eyes. "I sent a wave of Crybots and Orange Heads after them but those Cyborgs ripped through them as if they were nothing," the bat's overlapped words were laced with venom.
"Yes. However... Dr. Amelia Ray plans to ambush his Facility with an army of her own. I wish to be there when that happens. It will be satisfying to see how her plans will come together. She could give me some ideas," His staff lowered and his head tilted to view the sky. The idea of seeing her own army and watching her plans unfold had him completely interested since she came off as a genius to him.
"I am more interested in the robot that's following her..." Trailed the Batman as he stepped closer. " To add-- the Cyborg pieces you allowed me to examine seem to contain special materials and a strange network of wires. The way they were built is far more complex and alien than the Crybots I make. However... They seem to use human brains as the main intelligence component. I still have to study the shattered Cyborgs to grasp a better understanding," Broodwing explained with a wiggle of his eager fingers.
"Whatever the case... I want to see the ambush. Now, let's go," With that, the Emperor teleported and left the construction site. There was no need for him to listen to the bat spout nonsense over robotics that he doesn't have a lot of expertise in, so he ignored him and continued.
