Chapter 20: Existential Crisis.

The next day came around. After the ordeal with Solar, he didn't want to stray too far from Amelia. The only time he had was when Mercer regained control, but now he returned. He wasn't aware that Elsa and Zeltrax had taken up his Throne Room early this morning to watch the Cyborg's demise against the White Ranger. He would've found out about their little dispute if Dr. Ray was her usual self and jumped to explain the whole thing in fits of laughter. But no, he strode close to her side to check on her and noticed that she still hadn't mentally recovered from the news.

She needs more ice. Carefully his claws removed the warm and squishy packs then made his way toward the double doors. However, her lab coat was seen hanging on a tall tube next to a chemistry station, so when he walked over and picked it up, he expected no weight. But the faint clink against the side of the station when the coat flailed, caught his attention; he knew something was in it.

His claws explored the many pockets inside and only one was occupied. "Solar missed one, it seems," Gently from the pocket, he pulled out a rejuvenation liquid. He knew what it was, given its unique color and the glued paper label over the glass. "He is a fool. The odds are in our favor now," The slack of his jaw formed a smirk as he wandered over to Amelia and flipped the lid off. The coat he carried was soon hung over his forearm, so he could use his other hand to lift her head.

He was careful not to scratch her when he moved the mouth of the tube to her lips, but there was one issue. There wasn't any way for him to open her mouth, his hands were full by merely holding her head and lifting the tube. "Amelia. Open your mouth," The last word came out prolonged and in an exhale, irritated that she didn't respond to his struggle. Annoyance befell him when no answer was received, just a distant stare that he knew was caused by the monstrous man known as Solar. "Open!" His frustration worsened when he yelled. An attempt to part her lips when he pushed the tube to her mouth, failed, so he knew there was only one way he could get it down her throat.

He had no lips to give it to her orally, so the other option was to put it in her intravenously. Without further ado, he hurried and grabbed a needle and a separate tube to attach it to. Next, the rejuvenation contents were put into the other tube, slowly he fed the needle into a vein and watched it course into her. "I will not have you be useless! You will come back to me! Whether you like it or not!" Although he won't admit to it, there is a sense of fear in him. Losing her, the only person who accepted him and treated him normally, she was slipping from his grasp. The look in her eyes stayed the same since yesterday and it shook his rage, his fear, his human emotions beyond most of his control.

His patience was growing thin the longer he stood there watching the liquid seep into her vein. Once the tube was empty, he poured more into it and continued the method for the next ten minutes. There was no way he was going to let Solar get away with what he did and has done. She belongs to me... She belongs with me! She has more worth than an ingredient, she is more than a simple tool. Over and over in his mind, he kept seeing her bright and cheery expressions. Her welcoming aura, the child-like awe on her face when he'd do something she thought was cool. The scolding he receives if she believes he stepped out of line or lost his temper. Her playful smirks and the puckering of her lips as she thinks. She always seems supportive and encouraging. Her confidence, self-assurance, the strength of her mind, her magnificent talent that only he and his minions know about besides Ace.

Her energy, enthusiasm, and bright and accepting personality eventually made him crave more. A successful woman who was mostly independent and thrived off of plans. To him, she was perfection. Not many would see that, so far he was the only one who did, and to hear this masterpiece of a woman was labeled as nothing more than a thing or it... It made him livid.

After a while, he finally emptied the test tube and stood there for the longest time. He saw her bruises gradually fade, the wounds on her begin to close, and the swellings ease. It took roughly thirty minutes, unlike Solar when he used it and it took him an hour, unbeknownst to Mesogog, of course.

Amelia began to breathe better and move, so when he saw her sit up and rub her throat, he hoped she returned to him. But the distant look in her eyes was still there, depression evident on her face as he observed her on the sidelines. No words, no body language, the only thing he saw was when she sluggishly inched her way toward him and pressed her forehead against his chest.

"What are you doing?" With both arms against his lower back, he stiffened upon her touch, however, he quickly realized that she didn't attempt to hug him and look up at him as she'd normally do. "Why won't you speak?" Still, no answer, just silence. It was odd to see her that way, so quiet, distant, and when he saw her make slow strides toward the double doors he chose to follow her.

Not even when Stevie ran down the hall to greet her and sweetly nip at her fingers to gain her attention, she still walked on. Golden hues met a similar pair, Mesogog looked at the Franken Baby's concerned eyes. The sound it made was new, a pitched, sad trill of sorts when the tips of his Doberman-like ears fell at the sight of the beast. However, that didn't stop Stevie from inching toward his feet and standing on his hind legs to paw at his hip.

"She is unwell," It was as though he knew what the tiny beast asked. Nonetheless, he continued to follow the redhead and ignored the small sounds of concern from the hybrid who did the same.

He soon found himself in the laboratory room, where he paused and stared in disbelief. A lot of his work was shattered and on the floor, Zeltrax was seen on the sidelines, and when Amelia was about to step on broken glass with bare feet he yanked her away. The shoes she wore were taken off of her after he had bandaged her yesterday, he had to make sure Solar didn't hurt her feet or ankles.

A deep, monstrous growl expressed his displeasure. If Solar hadn't ticked him off, the bits of his destroyed lab were certainly a way to do it. "My Laboratory!" On one knee he picked up a small round bottle and stood up to examine it. "What has happened here, Zeltrax? Months of experiments-- ruined! Who has done this?" From side to side, his head moved aimlessly to check the rest of his lab. There was faint movement from the redhead when she circled the mess and walked toward the artificial egg on a nearby station.

"I don't know, master. It's horrible," He overheard Zeltrax as the beast continued to look about the lab where he stood. "What's this?" the Cyborg's chuckle went unnoticed but when Mesogog saw him stand in his peripherals, he looked over at him. "The White Ranger's weapon. It couldn't have been," The sight of the feather-like blade only added to how livid he was over everything else that had transpired.

"I knew he couldn't be trusted!" Even though his version of yelling was about the same as he normally talks, anger still laced his words.

"Why would he betray you?" Questioned the Cyborg.

"Because he wants all the power for himself," The beast stated before he started to pick up the remains of his lab and placed them on stations that were left untouched. However, as much as he wanted to sit around and bake in the heat of his newfound hatred for the White Ranger, he chose to check on the redhead.

The table the artificial egg sat on was strewed with shards of glass and chemicals but oddly enough the glass incubator the egg was in, wasn't touched. He observed her crouched position, her forearms on the edge of the surface and her chin on top of them. Those distant, depressed, blue hues stared at the egg for a long time, until the flashlight next to it was lifted and used to see its silhouette. "When will you speak?" Her silence was bugging him, her usual antics would've been able to cheer him up at least a little. She would've jumped to cleaning up and trying to replace the long-lost chemicals the White Ranger destroyed, out of sheer sympathy over his hard work. He knew her enough by now that she would be the type to do that.

He wasn't aware that Zeltrax stared at the redhead's backside, curious mumbles about her mental health came that Mesogog missed until he spoke up. "Master. Elsa and I didn't catch everything Solar said. What did he say to her that made her this way? Perhaps I could be of assistance?" The Cyborg didn't lie, despite framing the White Ranger, for once he was concerned about Dr. Ray.

"Solar mentioned... That she was created by artificial means. Straight from an embryo at his lab," Mesogog began and from there he explained in detail, what had happened and what the monstrous scientist said to her. From the fake memories, the five years of development, the fake parents, the reason why she was chosen to work at his Facility, how most of her genius originated from him, and that she was just a DNA database for Project B. A thing, an it, as he told Zeltrax, which in turn brought a growl from the Cyborg.

"So he lied to her this whole time? She even helped create Project B... How is that possible when she was created to be its database? Project B must have been..." Zeltrax trailed off as he stood behind the beast.

"Made after Amelia had joined his Facility. Project A was created first if going by the Alphabet proves anything," Mesogog answered when he lifted a claw to touch one of her curls, and received little to no reaction in doing so. "He must have believed, that if he created her first, his and her mind together would make building Project B, go by faster," It was as plain as day to him. By now he understood the way Ace Solar thought. If Amelia had the same genius as that monstrous scientist then it meant he would think similarly to her too. "It is no wonder why it felt as though I spoke to Amelia when I faced Solar... Because their minds are similar in terms of smarts. He retreats about as often as she does when she and I are chased by his pawns," Very carefully he began to stroke the top of her head and still earned no response, so he continued, mostly for his need of comfort.

"I am honestly relieved she's protected you and kept her word after all this time, my lord. She hasn't lied once yet. I must admit... I am... Afraid of her. She is scary. Dr. Ray can easily overwhelm someone with her wits alone and her transformation ability that could potentially skewer a horde. This woman... I don't understand what he means by a thing, or an it-- an ingredient. She deserves a lot more respect than she realizes," Zeltrax spoke reluctantly about that fact, which was why he was always skittish in her presence.

He is right. She has been created from a lab like me and has proven herself more capable than my two pawns. Save for her lack of battle experience. The more he thought about it, the more he realized how much closer they were and how much he could relate to her now. He may not understand sympathy or have any empathy, but he does understand loneliness now thanks to her, and how much pain it can cause. Pain is one thing, that he can relate to her on a deeper level.

Leaning close to the top of her head, he looked at the baby raptor's silhouette and saw that it had grown more since last time. "Why are you not furious? At a time like this-- you should be livid!" Back to her he looked and crouched to her level, just to see a silent tear already down her tan cheek.

"Master. It may be some time before she's recovered from his words," Zeltrax spoke, as the beast peeked at him and watched him shift his metallic feet.

"There is no time for recovery! He could arrive at any moment and we won't be prepared for it," Mesogog stood and raked his claws harshly through the chemicals and left streaks in the metal on the station's surface.

"Sir... Perhaps, you could give her a push? Not literally, of course," Suggested the dark metal Cyborg, which the beast turned his head away from, to glance at the redhead when he heard mumbling.

"My life... Was all a lie," Whispers fell from her lips as he watched her gently press a finger against the baby raptor's glass. "My memories. My parents. My everything... I was born to be a tool. To bring an end to humanity and force evolution across my world's planet," Quiet words were laced with hopelessness and defeat. "But... If I destroy myself, I could put an end to his plans couldn't I?" The glass incubator was soon scooted closer to herself so she could press her cheek on the warm glass.

"Suicide is the coward's way out!" Hissing, Mesogog didn't like how she was talking and moved the incubator away from her face.

"It's not suicide. Not if it's to protect you, Zeltrax, Elsa, and my world," Slowly to a stand, he saw her sigh, and make sluggish steps past Zeltrax.

"He would only create another database for it then!" From the beast's maw came another hiss and a disapproving growl. However, when he saw her look at him, the sharp stare he rarely sees on her caught him off guard.

"I'm not afraid to die if I have to. I've endured far worse things than death before. The hell he put me through, a lot of the times, made me wish for it," With that, she tiredly left the room.

Mesogog wasn't going to let her go anywhere by herself. Not when he decided that wherever he goes, she comes with him; to have her next to him at all times. He needs her, and he finally realizes that she needs him too. Past the Cyborg who watched confusedly, the beast jogged out of the room to catch up to her.

Flashes of memories for the entire year of being a guinea pig in Solar's lab filled her mind. The pain when she was strapped down to a metal bed, electrified past the average human's endurance. Her shrill screams played back to her like a horrific film and could recall how her body would arch and try to curl into itself.

Another memory is when she was forced to transform into a bear. They had strapped a heavy collar around her neck, and chains on her limbs, and forced her to turn into it. Chained to a wall and couldn't break from them every time she tried. How people would come in to shoot her with many tranquilizers to knock her out and wait for her to revert.

She could remember the tears she shed in a white padded room, dressed in a gown with many holes, and chains on her feet to keep her away from the door made of electrical energy. The amount of hunger she felt, made her ravenous after she was forced to transform, and many times tried to kill one of the workers there before she'd revert.

The times when they'd slice her open, make her transform to watch her insides change accordingly to the creature she took in, and writhe in pain in the process. Some animals she was forced to turn into, made her eat various things that would normally make a human being sick. Ranging from insects to mud or dry dirt, even rotten food and carcasses that vultures would consume. There were many things that she could think back on, but no matter how many memories she recalled, they were all linked to what Solar had said. His reasons behind all of those supposed tests, were torture as she'd prefer to call them.

I can't bring myself to put on a smile. It hurts too much. I'm a tool. An ingredient. A means to an end. My life was a lie, I have no other purpose for being alive and I have no future except for being a database. Tears trickled her tan cheek and hardly cared if anyone saw her, that was until she felt herself be lifted over Mesogog's shoulder. "What are you-" There wasn't much time when she watched him stride down the hall and saw his feet when she dangled.

"You will stick with me. I will not let you out of my sight! You are to be at my side at all times and accompany me everywhere I go!" She could hear it, the anger behind his words that were followed up by growls.

"Even... Into the bathroom? Or when you take a shower?" It was brief, but she felt her heart flutter before she returned to her depression and hopelessness.

"If that is what it will take then yes!" Hearing that made heat rise to her cheeks and a small gasp left her parted lips, astonished that he would go that far. Amelia watched him turn a corner and enter his Throne Room but saw him halt next to a seat where a Tesla of sorts hovered above it. "Stay here and do not move. I have unfinished business with Trent!" Her bare feet felt the concrete floor when he placed her next to him.

Turning around, albeit slowly, she knew what episode this was and watched him open an invisiportal; into the hole, his hand went. She could tell he was feeling around and then saw him reel the boy in, with a quick telepathic wave to render him unconscious. It was quick, Amelia watched with little to no emotion on her face when he picked the boy up and placed him on the seat.

Straps were hooked together, she saw him wander about until a few minutes passed and heard the boy wake up. The displeased, deep growls from him made Amelia's cheeks burn for a moment and shifted her feet. She knew why he did that but couldn't help the images that played in her head. Even in my current depressed state, I still blush and get flustered over him somehow. I'm so strange. She did her best not to move from her spot since she knew he'd be more furious than he currently was due to Trent.

"Traitor!" Blue eyes glanced to the side to see the beast lean close to the boy's face when he woke up. Amelia dared to not get involved. The way he moved his head around the kid's face and crouched to his level, made her imagination run wild in other ways, it was enough to make her cheeks worsen. "You'll regret double-crossing me!" again, he spoke.

I... Am very... Weird. Curse me and my perverted brain. Gulping, Amelia had to avert her gaze when she saw Mesogog adjust the Tesla and stand next to the boy. It didn't help to hear the kid's confusion when he asked 'What are you talking about?' The redhead knew that Zeltax framed the White Ranger out of jealousy. Of course, there would be no way she'd be able to tell him that. Otherwise, it'd ruin the plot.

"You cannot be trusted! And therefore-- must be eliminated!" Dr. Ray frowned at the beast's words, for she knew what came next and it caused a sigh to escape.

"No! You're making a mistake!" Trent cried out as he struggled against his bindings.

"Goodbye, White Ranger!" With that, the Tesla was activated and the white dino gem was in the process of being drained.

Amelia scooted close to the boy, who didn't notice her and attempted to try and reassure him, but his call for his Dad made her halt. I know if I let him be, Mercer will appear and save him. I can't interfere... As much as she wanted to, she knew better and stepped back with her attention glued to Mesogog's backside.

There he went, after several calls from Trent, she saw the beast struggle to keep his control and soon turned into Mercer within seconds. As soon as she saw him turn around, Dr. Ray had to back up into the shadows to avoid his eyes but unfortunately, she failed. "Trent!" The blonde sprinted to the boy, and caught a glimpse of the redhead, before pushing the Tesla's head away and causing white energy to flash all over the room.

It bounced and smashed against everything around them, the redhead had to duck to not get hit and when everything calmed down, her blue eyes peeked at the two. "Trent," Again the blonde tried to get his boy's attention. With both hands, she watched him shake him, with repeated words of 'son' under his breath. "Son, you alright?" Whispering, Amelia could tell from where she stood that he was a caring father regardless of how cold he always appeared to be.

After the two conversed about the situation at hand, Mercer eventually stared at her with a look that could kill if it were possible. "You... Why didn't you do something?" By his expression, the redhead could tell he wasn't going to be in control for too much longer given the sweat that began to build and labored breaths.

"I would've... But then I would be ruining this world's storyline. I'm sure with Mesogog part of you-- you share some of his memories too," She tried her best to force a smile, but how could she when the previous events with Solar were putting her through an existential crisis? "I don't think I have to explain myself any more than that," Quietly, she spoke and averted her gaze to the floor.

Even though Mercer was holding onto the seat and panting, he still told his son to go, to leave and help the Rangers. Thankfully Trent left and did as he was told. "Y- Yes. I'm aware. You can't interfere with anything that happens here, I get it. B- But..." Between breaths, she saw him struggle to stand and walk over to her. "Y- You and... And Mesogog, are similar. However-- I need to find a way to get rid of him. Surely... Y- You could help me? I kn- know that's asking a lot, but--" Before he could continue, a sad smile graced her lips when she waved a finger to make him stop.

"Don't worry. I have a plan. In my opinion... Both of you deserve to be free from all of this and I'm already working on a present for you two," As much as she could her smile was forced to stay, it hurt her to see him in such pain and to know they shared the same body made her want to hug him.

She wasn't expecting him to lose his footing and fall on top of her, sending them both to the floor and making a surprised grunt from her. With his head close to the side of hers, whispers brushed against her ear. "Thank you... Whatever you're doing, wh- whatever it is... Don't stop," When he said that, heat rushed to Amelia's face.

Even more so when he changed back to Mesogog and watched him slowly rise on all fours to tower above her. "Amelia. Why didn't you stop Trent from escaping?!" There he was, the same old beast she loved. The crimson on her face deepened when he pinned her wrists and growled menacingly to have her answer him.

Why is he pinning me?! Why is he on top of me?! Nervousness made her almost want to shrink under his intense gaze and curl up since it was causing a stir of emotions that made her heart kick in her ribs. "I'm not supposed to interfere with this w- world's storyline. And... Y- You told me to stick to you like glue, remember? I'm just... Doing what you told me to. Don't snap at me for doing what I'm supposed to," This time her brows knitted, and her blue hues averted with a pout on her lips. The contemplative hum from the dino man and the sudden closeness of his nose, made her face him again. She gasped when their noses touched, but what made every fiber in her being stiffen, was when he cocked his head and gently licked her cheek.

She didn't move. With eyes as wide as softballs, she watched him stand up and remove himself from her. The hand he offered to her was hesitantly taken, the jolt that came next was to yank her onto her feet and almost straight into his chest. "Good," That was all she heard from him, and she noticed the odd growl that came with it.

Why did he growl like that? Did I tick him off? Is he mad at me because I listened to him? And why did he lick my cheek? It would take a lot of convincing from him for her to know that he liked her, given how adamant she is in believing that no one would find her interesting or would want to date her. Finding herself unattractive and believing that others thought the same, made her try to find other reasons for Mesogog's actions even though lately he's been rather bold. Amelia grazed her wet cheek, taken aback before she felt that same wrist be tugged and forced to follow behind him.
