Chapter 16: Ace in the Hole.
The next couple of days came around rather quickly, for the morning sun rose and glinted through the glass ceiling of the Facility. Black loafers paced back and forth in a room full of scientists who watched many episodes of SPD and Dino Thunder. Countless taps on keys and clicks from computer mice joined with the murmur of machines in the background.
A pale finger tapped at a porcelain chin, Ace, who showed signs of increasing impatience, was humming to himself. If his workers saw him right now they would think he lost his mind with how disheveled he looked. The crease between his brows, some bags under his eyes, and a frown, proved how determined he was to capture Amelia and find his device; if not then his tiredness.
"Mr. Solar!" Upon a man's yell, Ace's head whipped to the side to see another who stood from his computer. "Sir! I found C71.9X's parts! It seems the main antagonist in SPD has it. I saw a short scene of him speaking with a bat creature and paying him to do something! I know he didn't buy it off of him, but I'm pretty sure the bat creature is a master at robotics, given that he's the one that created these robots called 'Crybots'," Calculative dark eyes watched the man's further down the steps, Ace wasn't the least surprised by the news.
"Alright! I'll head there and deal with them myself," From the setup in the room, it was a computer lab, for he trekked past several more rows of advanced computers before reaching an automatic door.
Loafers clicked along the glossy floor of his facility, he wasted no time to head back to his office, and once he was about to pass the long window in the hall, he paused. On a table, strapped down, much as before, another subject was being used, and another shot was given. No human being will ever be good enough. Amelia needs to be brought back so I can continue with Project B! Without it, Project B is static. Without a brain, without a database, the machine will not function. Pondering, his dark, cold eyes showed no ounce of remorse or sympathy to see the woman who was punctured, die upon an attempt at mutation.
Continuing, trudging through his door once it hissed open upon his approach, he made his way to his closet and opened it. His eyes were glued to the trench coat he donned before. However, when he pushed it to the side and pulled out a latex clothing sack off of the bar, he unzipped it.
"I think it's time to get serious," A few mumbles left his lips when he opened the flaps to see a cybernetic suit. Dark blue with white cybernetic lines all over it, armored padding made it look like it was specifically designed to fit a super soldier.
Without further ado, he undressed and slipped the suit on. The combat boots replaced his loafers and on his backside, the suit automatically closed. Mechanical whirring echoed as black metal claws clamped together to conceal his back and not long after was his trench coat put on. The same gloves he wore when he fought Mesogog one on one last time, replaced his white ones. In a holster inside his coat, was a small pistol that was set to paralysis mode, he made sure it was well out of sight.
After he was all dressed and ready to go, behind him he reached into his closet and grabbed some metal, switch whips. Their lengths were coiled and neatly wrapped when he grabbed them by the silver handles. Onto two belt loops that were hidden behind his coat and attached to the back of his suit's hips, they were latched on. "Now. Let's go see this so-called antagonist," His gloved hand was used to push on his chin to make his head turn, and pop his neck. After a satisfying crack, a dangerous glint in his eyes shone for a moment before he left his office.
Heavy thuds from his boots and added weight from his suit, caused every employee to jump out of his way or clear a path. "Miss Jamie! How are the Cyborgs coming along?" He spotted the blond who was on her way up the escalator near the main lobby, for he didn't bat an eye when she ran to catch up to him.
"One is finished sir and the second one is almost done," Straight and to the point, just as he liked it. Even though her soft voice carried fear and shook, he hardly cared or paid it any mind.
"Good. I'm heading to SPD to collect my device and if I can-- the parts from C71.9X, too," explained the head of the Facility. From his pocket, out came his personal portal device and brought it to his temple, before it was pointed in front of him. A determination burned in his eyes when he watched its platinum color light up the hall.
There was an air of confidence during his steps when he went through. The long tunnel stretched far but he sprinted through like a soldier in the army and came out the other side.
In the same dark halls he saw during his chase after Amelia, was none other than Gruumm's ship. He didn't waste a second to sprint and rush into the monitoring room, where he saw Broodwing and the Emperor standing. Around their feet were the parts from C71.9X, which were held in some sort of barrel that was brought in, and both heads looked in his direction.
There wasn't enough time for them to react when Ace yanked on Broodwing's arm, pulled him high above his head by the front of his attire, and slammed him with one hand onto the metal floor. Such inhuman strength from a human and the loud grunt from the bat alerted the Emperor, for he stood abruptly from his skeletal chair. "Hand it over! Or I'll break the very glass you're breathing in," He was getting sick and tired of all of the delays and inconveniences, so he took it upon himself to take care of what his lackeys failed to do.
"Hand what over?" From what he saw, Broodwing's hands were up in defense to try and appear harmless, but Ace knew better than to believe someone's facade; especially when he knew he was a robotic's master.
From his belt loop came one of the metal whips that he swatted out behind him and made it stiffen into a long blade. "Don't play dumb," Above the bat's face the stiffened whip-blade was directed, threatening him even more when the blade began to glow from increasing heat. "You have C71.9X! Clearly-- in that barrel, are the parts! Either hand them back to me or your life becomes forfeit," The more Solar spoke, the more dangerous his voice became as his tone went from angry to furious low growls, that seemed to have alerted the War Lord Emperor several feet away. "I don't care if this world needs you or not... You're nothing more than a disgusting pain my crack," With that, he stomped a strong foot onto Broodwing's chest and pointed his free hand over at the barrel. "Give back what belongs to me... Or you're dead," Ace hardly cared that his clenching jaw and his veins popping out made his anger known.
The situation as a whole was serious, not even the child nearby attempted to move or speak. "Ace Solar... The one I saw chase Dr. Amelia Ray?" Some distance ahead of him, the scientist's head perked upon his name and bore his cold, dark eyes into rubies. Not once did his anger or arrogance subside, he was too focused on retrieving what he believed was his. "Why are you after this woman?" From there the axe staff flared to life, as soon as it was pointed at him with both hands, and saw the glint of anger reflect in those rubies.
"That's none of your business, now is it? It belongs to my Facility and it's highly recommended to bring it back alive. My reasons are my own and I won't let some bony prick get in my way! Now hand it over to me. The parts... And my portal device!" No ounce of care that he was threatened by Gruumm showed on his face, only his immovable anger and overconfidence remained.
"You think you have any room the threaten me? I am Emperor Gruumm! Conqueror of Galaxies and Star Systems!" This time it was his turn to yell. The amount of disrespect from Ace and rude intrusion only spiked it that much more.
"Hahaha! Cute." It was quick. From his coat, the small pistol from his coat was pulled out and was just as fast to shoot a paralysis shot that hit the bony Emperor's forehead. Ace paid him no mind when he fell over in a heavy thunk, for he pointed his weapon at Broodwing next.
The bat's swift reflexes kicked his feet out from under him and caused him to land on his side, Broodwing wasn't going to just sit there acting defenseless. However, Ace moved about the same speed as him, reflexes about as quick as a Texas showdown between two gunmen.
"Haaah!" When Broodwing shot out a wave of electricity, Solar rolled out of the way and sent a shot at the bat's shoulder.
Cold eyes watched the alien fall backward with a hard clunk of the container on his head. "Don't think for one second that I don't know how to fight. I may not know martial arts, but I do know quite a few tricks," Low, dark chuckles, left his lips before his frown returned, and walked over to the barrel. "If one thing is certain-- I have masterful precision," Quietly to himself than to the others, his ego flared. Onto the handles of the barrel, a hand was placed, before his portal device was used to make the mysterious platinum hole appear at his side.
Back to his belt loop, the whip-blade was placed, and soon after the barrel was pushed through the portal. He left them there in a paralyzed state without care if anyone were to come in and take their life, in such a vulnerable situation.
Now that they're out of the way and I have what I came here for, I can focus on the recruits that are coming in. As he rolled the barrel out the other side of the portal and strolled through a hall in his Facility, he paused to check to make sure all of his goods were there.
Rummaging through the parts, one after another, each piece was brought to his attention, mentally noting that they were all there except one particular thing and it was enough to make him kick the wall to his side and break a chunk from it. "Ah!" His furious scream said it all, he wasn't happy that it was missing. "The device isn't in that mess! That means... Those SPD guys must have it. After all, where else would it be? If C71.9X was destroyed in that world then most likely SPD has it... I'm heading back!" Whipping around and taking his device back out, Miss Jamie was seen tight against the wall with her head down and some documents tight in her arms. "You! Bring me a copy of C71.9X! It's Replica, to accompany me! And don't dally!" With his finger directed at her, he watched her nod quietly and sprint through the halls to do as she was told.
Fury made his face a tad red at the thought of those fictional characters taking what he believed belonged to him. Pacing back and forth, to him it felt like thirty minutes, when it merely took ten, waiting for Jamie to return with the Assassin.
Once she arrived, so had the Cyborg, who stared expectantly and awaited orders. "C71.9X Replica, come with me. You are to protect me by any means necessary, should anyone choose to try their luck with us," He didn't spend another minute standing there to see it nod, for the portal illuminated the hall once more and they both walked through as though it were a normal routine. The split tail to his coat waved from his pace when he sprinted through the white tunnel and could hear the metallic, machinery behind him that sounded as smooth as a hot knife to butter.
When I arrive at SPD's base, they will be hostile, and keep on their guard. I watched a bit of the episodes and noticed that Dr. Kat Manx is their most relied-on individual whose mind is as capable as Dr. Ray's, but she excels in technology whereas Amelia excels in DNA and chemistry. I will have to target her and hopefully be able to use her as a hostage. As Ace put together a plan he knew he would need, out the other side, he barged through and stood in the center of the main lobby.
Just ahead of him and on the floor was the symbol of the base, so he knew he was in the right place. Every employee, alien and human, froze upon his arrival and stared. Some with awestruck faces and others with fear, none of which bothered him. High on a platform his dark eyes scanned and saw a couple of people in uniforms gawk, before they ran down some escalators to reach him.
"C71.9X Replica... Defensive protocol, now," Calmly, quietly, he demanded the Cyborg and paid more attention to the approaching Rangers than the Assassin, who made a couple of steps forward to get in front of him.
"Halt-- SPD! State your business!" The Ranger in red and another in yellow directed their SPD pistols at him, and saw their piercing glares dart between him and the Cyborg.
"I am here to take back what's rightfully mine! And I'll pry it from your cold, dead fingers if I have to," Threat laced his words when his voice darkened and deepened, which they didn't seem to take too kindly to. He watched them separate to make some space between each other and stayed silent, even more so when they saw his cold expression.
"Sir, we have a situation out here in the main lobby. Some man appeared from a strange light and it looked similar to the one the redheaded woman made. He is threatening us to give back whatever it is he wants. He hasn't stated it yet," The one in red spoke through his communication device and refused to take his dark brown eyes off of another pair. Not too much longer did a few others join the red and yellow one, including a dog man he recognized as the one he saw on the SPD cover.
"Sir. My calculations determine that some form of intimidation without destruction would be the best course of action. Permission to act?" The soft, feminine, overlapped voice from the Assassin, questioned and moved its ice blue eyes to Ace.
Silent, deadly glares were swapped between him and the several Rangers who stood to defend their base. His gaze moved about in search of the supposed Dr. Manx for a good ten seconds until he spotted her up on the platform and watched them. "Yes. Capture that feline woman up there and bring her to me," Whispering to the Cyborg, he didn't care to see everyone's reactions or gasps, when he saw the Replica sprint immediately at a speed of sixty.
"Kat! Look out!" The woman in the yellow SPD uniform hollered to warn her and sent various shots at Ace.
However, when the shots hit his armored cybernetic suit, they just sparked and fizzled away. This encouraged Solar to take out a whip blade and jut it out to the side after their rain of fire ceased, for it stiffened into a blade and remained poised. "All of you are a real piece of work. Give it back to me... My portal device! The USB-sized device that I know you have. Gruumm and his bat-like comrade didn't have it but they still managed to get their hands on the parts of my original C71.9X! So tell me, where is it?" In his upper peripherals, he saw Manx run from the Cyborg, who was crawling across the ceiling and leaping through the beams to reach the feline. None of the Rangers could do much about it since he kept their attention.
Everyone's heads looked up to see Manx scream in the hold of the Cyborg, which sped alongside the walls, magnetized, and leaped far across the lobby to land next to Ace. "Let go of me!" The feline flailed and thrashed, did everything she could to break free but the Assassin's hold was that of pure steel if not worse.
"Hand it over or she dies," Ace didn't waste a second to pop a shot at Manx with his pistol and paralyze her. This caught everyone off-guard, for they took a defensive stance and pulled out their morphers. "Morph and I'll make sure she doesn't see the next light of day!" The whip-blade he had, was soon coated with immense heat that made it light up a bright orange and was lifted close to the back of the cat's neck.
The entire lobby was quiet, save for a few startled whimpers of some workers. The situation was bad enough that he could have sworn he saw unease in the dog alien's furious gaze and watched hesitant movements when they all put their morphers back.
"Who are you?" The dog alien stepped out from the group of Rangers with tight fists to his sides and a snarl escaping his mouth.
"Who I am shouldn't matter to you. The only quarrel I have is with Dr. Amelia Ray. Tend to your own business and I'll do the same," With the pistol in his hand, he lifted it toward the dog who made an attempt to inch closer and watched him pause. Of course, he didn't go without growling at him.
"You want it? Take it!" From his uniform, Ace watched the dog pull it out from his pocket, and chuck it across the room. "Now give her back to us!" His gloved hand reached out and gestured toward the paralyzed feline. He was not taking the hostage situation too well, especially when they weren't able to morph or so much as make a move to try and save her.
Solar moved the blade away from the woman's neck, whipped it out to the side, and made it loosen up into a whip again before making it retract back into his hand. Its metal coiled into a bundle before his cybernetic gloved hand caught it once the molten heat ceased. It was hard to ignore the sound it made when it snapped loudly and echoed throughout the lobby. With a nod towards the Cyborg, he faced the portal that was still open behind him and didn't notice the hesitance it gave.
When the Assassin corrected the cat's position into more of a bridal style and placed her gently onto the floor, the device was picked up and a momentary gaze lingered on the group. "Please... Save me. Save me. Save me... S- S- Save... Save... Me-- me-- me- m- m- m- me," Its head twitched as electricity sparked from its machinery, malfunctions occurred and there was a struggle that it knew they saw when it was forced to follow behind the head of the Facility. Then and there it disappeared through the portal, leaving the Rangers behind with countless quizzical faces.

Finally! Now... Onto other matters. Solar sat back in his seat and began to look through more profiles and applications. The parts were already delivered to the robotics room where Miss Jamie was, but he refused to take off his combat gear. Aside from the Whip-blades he donned and the small pistol, that was put up for safety.
To the edge of his desk where a com sat, a button was pressed, and a holographic screen appeared an inch above it. It revealed Miss Jamie at a work table and it made his brow lift curiously, to see her work on a Cyborg's frame, and place the much-needed brain into the Cyborg's cranium. "Miss Jamie. How are the two Cyborgs coming along? I want them out there after Amelia Ray," Now that he's calmed down enough, his tense demeanor no longer carried an air of anger. The faint smirk on the corner of his lips was proof enough.
"Uh-- Sir! Yes!" The blonde whipped around to face the screen. Her nervousness was as clear as day on her face, nonetheless, she faced the frame again to continue with her work. "I'm almost done with the second one. C71.8X and C71.7X will be sent soon. The temporary portal device was finished too, should I go ahead and place it into C71.8X's small storage space?" Not once did she look back at him to ask, for she was focused on the careful placement of the brain in the cranium and got to work with attaching cybernetics to the brain's stem.
"Yes-- less time wasted that way. Be sure to add a self-destruction sequence to it, in case their attempts at capturing their target, fail. I'm honestly surprised the first one was killed. It seems the world of SPD can eliminate my Cyborgs..." He trailed for a moment to hum in thought and leaned his head back to think. "Progress report on Project A," He didn't look to see the blonde stiffen upon his demand, nor did he care that her reply carried a fearful tone.
"Project A is showing some definite progression. There is one minor problem we can't seem to get past. Its processor unit and AI are having some trouble connecting to its main frame's machinery," Jamie answered before she continued and coiled some wires around some parts of the brain.
"I'll be in to look at it. Remember-- Amelia Ray believes Project A was a failure... So I want to give her a little surprise once it's complete. Should anything go wrong, your head is mine," His smirk fell when his cold eyes met fearful green ones on the screen, as his fingers intertwined over his chest and barely moved his head to fully face her.
"A- Alright, Sir," Hesitant, he saw her gulp, before his fingers tapped on the button to make the screen disappear.
From his seat, he stood, made his way out of the door, and trekked the halls with a malicious glint in his sinister eyes.

Anger boiled inside Gruumm. He hadn't met someone impulsive like that in a long time and when he groaned and sat back into his seat, he watched Broodwing struggle to stand. Hahaha, Cute... He said. A brief thought occurred before he glanced at Mora's dumbstruck expression. "Broodwing. I want that man located. Hunted down! No one does that to me and gets away with it! I will make him pay," Tight fists clenched on the armrest of his chair, the anger made his rubies glow dangerously as he looked at the space where the parts once were.
"Surely you could agree with him, your horned-ship," Mora to his side, stood with the two dolls in her hands and sassed back with a frown on her lips. "You took what was his and you refused to give it back. I expected him to retaliate, but I didn't expect to see him handle you both with such little effort. He caught you two off-guard, admit it!" The grin on her lips and her eyes moving to Broodwing, made the Emperor rise with a burst of rage.
"He did not! I knew he would do something! I expected him to fight back, but to paralyze me instead?!" Gruumm growled low when he remembered Ace's words and the icy stare in his otherwise dark eyes. "No, there was a monster inside that man. Something sinister, heartless, which is exactly what I need in my army! If he hadn't done that, I would've tried to strike a deal with him. He... Would've been useful. But now, I don't care. If that redhead ever shows her face again and is being chased by those things, I will find joy in personally taking them down!" The whole room fell silent after his outburst, regardless, he turned to his computer and checked on the progress of his plans against the Power Rangers.
