Park Won(박원), Suzy(수지) _ Don't Wait For Your Love(기다리지 말아요)
The ice cream was his. That was sure. Parker felt his collar tighten and beads of sweat roll down his temple. He didn't want to move with her head against his and shoulders.touching, he felt tied to her somehow.
The seconds were ticking, he could hear her silent breath and for a second he believed that she had fallen asleep. He felt her move her head away and sit up. He gulped and loosened his collar. He shut his eyes tight and prayed the ground would swallow him. He had to confess so carelessly, didn't he?
Strangely it wasn't the fear of rejection that gnawed him but it was the fear of the end of a friendship. He truly believed that they had forged a strong friendship, not the one of hi bye type, but one with memories and promises of tomorrow. Now, his feelings had to meddle it up.
He heard the crackling of plastic bag and dared to open a single eye then both the eyes, he saw her opening the ice cream cup and dip the spoon inside.
'It has melted.' , she pouted to herself.
He sat up taking the scenario in front of him.
'What?'
She looked at him and them quickly back to the ice cream, 'It has melted. But nonetheless, I win so I get it okay?'
Parker found himself nodding but midway he realized that there was a huge logical error.
'Wait!' She stopped midway her third spoon.
'How did you win?' He grew bolder by the words.
'You didn't answer, so I clearly won.'
She sighed and set the cup down. 'I answered the question, Parker.'
'You did?'
She nodded.
A tiny hope fluttered inside his heart, that she might have nodded a yes. But then a huge foot of alternate answer stomped it. What if she shook her head no. After all, the rule was about answering the question. It didn't guarantee a yes.
He did not want to know that. He slumped and hid his head between his knees.
'But answering the question doesn't make me the winner. So don't you want to know how you lost?'
His head perked up. Of course, she must ask a question that he wouldn't be able to answer for her to win.
'You never asked a question.'
'Because I know you won't answer it.' the mumbled.
Then brazenly looking at his eyes she said, 'It's not a question per say but actually a dare. So it doesn't qualify. Shoot! I cheated didn't I by asking a dare and changing the rule. But the ice cream-'
'Suzy.'
She stopped her ramble and looked at him.
He looked so tired and drunken. She knew he was frustrated and upset with her. She didn't mean to ramble but she wanted to, for she was scared of asking him to do that.
'What dare?'
'One you wouldn't do.'
He smirked. 'Oh really?'
'Even though you like me and all.' she shrugged look everywhere but him.
'What has me liking you to do with it?'
Parker caught her mumble something but then didn't hear a word.
'For god sake, tell me, Suzy!'
'I want the ice cream though.' She said with her cheeks turning scarlet.
'Okay. Tell me the dare. I won't do it so you can have the ice cream. Happy?'
'Kissing me.'
And that was the most agonizing moment in Parker's life. He kicked himself internally for letting her have that stupid ice cream.
Of course, he wanted the ice cream. Because he wanted to kiss her.
He glared at her and this stopped her last spoon.
'What?' She asked irritably.
'Nothing.'
'Then stop glaring.'
'I wanted the ice cream.'
'Too bad, you were chivalrous enough to let me have it.'
Parker laid back on the grass when he found a loophole. He grinned mischievously and stood up.
'Now that there is no prize, there is no game.'
Suzy looked up to see him make a step towards her and kneel down in front of her.
She gulped and bit her lower lip. Wasn't she daring enough?
He leaned in and pushed back a strand behind her ear. She felt his nose brush against hers and shut her eyes.
Parker smiled at how adorable she looked with her face upwards and lips slightly puckered. He wanted to kiss her. So bad. But two could play the game.
'It's way late Suzy.'
And just like that reality crashed it.
Suzy saw him stand up and stretch a handout. She took it reflexively.
The night has come to an end.

Suzy was angry at Parker. Not like before but for real now. She felt tears push their way out of her eyes. She stared at his mahogany coat as she walked behind him. Tiny rays had started to peak out wiping the darkness of the night.
This time they walked not aimlessly but with the aim of finding his car.
Did he feel no sorrow? He was the one who confessed first. Of course, she nodded and was brave enough to ask for a kiss. Then why did he have to break the spell? Why did he have to end the night? Couldn't he have at least kissed her before the dirty truth was realized?
Pain jabbed through her ankles. She was too busy roaming a city with a man she started to like that she hadn't realized she wore ankle heels her whole trip. But now with her mind begging her to focus on anything but the ending, she felt the pain of a swollen foot.
Immediately he turned around and looked down at her feet.
Parker thoughtlessly walked towards her, making her sit on the pavement. He knelt down and pulled off her heels. How stupid of him to have ignored that? Looking at her bruised feet, he felt a pang and a cold wind inside.
He pulled his own shoes and put her feet fragilely into it.
'Do you still think I am a stray dog caught in a motor accident?'
'Suzy, no.'
'Was it pity that you mistook for liking me?'
His grip on the shoe tightened with him refusing to look up.
'Did you want the ice cream so bad?' She scoffed.
He stood up, 'Yes, dammit I wanted the ice cream so bad that I would do any dare. I would have kissed you a thousand times, confessed to a million people that you, Suzy, was the one I liked. Because-' He looked at the widened eyes below and whispered, 'I wanted the ice cream so bad.'
When the first tear spilled he sat beside her taking her into his chest and hugging her as tightly as he could.
'But you should know that we have a life waiting for us on the other side.'
'I know.'
He pulled up her chin. His eyes softened with wetness 'And that's why I don't want to kiss you. Just yet.'
She smiled between tears, 'Because we both wouldn't want it to stop.'
'And now you are the one saying cheesy stuff.'

Finally, they found the red Lambo in 6th avenue Wilhelm. By now the sun had woken up and the closed shopsbwith the open sign placed out and the advertisement board yet once again rubbed and rewritten.
The place was slowly waking up into the morning routine. Parker watched her silently walk towards the car. He remembered thinking about the what if of having her as his date.
'Hey, Suzy?'
She looked up.
'What if yesterday night we were each other's date?'
She pondered on the question. Quite seriously.
With a shrug, she replied, 'I would have been bored to death.'
And he grinned with her giving back the same.
Parker parked a good few blocks away from her home at her request. She reasoned that he would be seven feet under if her father saw him.
Suzy had rung her sister from a public booth and managed to say she was safe and coming back home, in between screams and thank gods.
She unlocked the door of the car and stepped out. Parker gave her a fond look.
'Maybe we should exchange numbers?' He asked.
She bent down and replied, 'Maybe we should.'
But neither made the move. They both knew that they didn't want that. As cheesy as a Parker it may sound, the memories they made was shelled away from the plastic world of rich people and businessmen. And they wanted to keep it that way. Their little secret. It was so stupid to part with no way of contacting ever again but that's how they met in the first place, two strangers waiting for their date.
'Goodbye, Parker.'
'Goodbye, Suzy'
And she shut the door close.
