박경 (Park Kyung) - 자격지심 (Inferiority Complex) (Feat. 은하 of 여자친구)
'Did you see her ignore the baby purposely so that the husband was the one who had to change the diapers?' She laughed swinging her hands. 'If it had been anywhere I know, the nannies would have come to rescue.'
'Probably they wouldn't have brought the baby in the first place.' He replied smugly.
With her mouth in an O, she realized what he said was right. She had never seen so many children from a crying baby to a bratty tween in a place where adults gather. And even if anyone below the socially accepted age was allowed it was only to encase their exclusive talent or for them to stay silent than a shadow.
Once again with the aimless walking but with a full tummy, they found themselves in the busier part of town. Where night was just a time of artificial light rather than the natural one. A stark contrast to the quiet street with closed shops, she found so many street vendors and so many vehicles zooming in the road and so many people so many types of people around.
The smoke in the air, the heat from the street food shops, the noise of the automobile and yet again people, made her so happy that it drove her into wetted eyes. She was acting stupid she knew but she had never seen this much life. Life.
'Wow.'
One word to summarise a whole range of emotion.
He found her rooted on spot with her eyes wandering hither and thither to drink in as much as it could. Her skin glowed in the night lights. Her aura reeked of happiness.
'You look like a kid opening a Christmas gift.' he joked.
But that was the truth, she was opening a very early Christmas gift, inside which she found so many intriguing things.
'You could stand here whole night just looking at the painting or step in and live inside it.'
She laughed just like how he had back in the corridor when she asked if she could join him in his night rendezvous.
She punched him in the arm, 'You say the cheesiest lines, you know.'
'Hey.' Rubbing his arm which obviously hurt less than an ant bite, 'I am just a cheesy person. What can I say?'
'But you don't look like one.'
'Huh? Whats that supposed to mean.'
'Well,you.. ' She waved her hands all around him urging him to look at him. 'You look like a-'
'Like a?' He smirked.
He had been called a fine specimen, smoking hot, a rock solid handsomeness. And when he expected a reply along those words, she surprised him by saying, 'Santa Claus.'
The air sizzled with tension and disbelief.
'Wait, you are saying I look like an old man with a pot belly?!'
He looked incredulous and flabbergasted.
She doubled over laughing at his look. 'No-that's not what-' She was in a fit of giggles that she sat on the footpath. People walking around them gave a weird glance but she didn't seem to bother.
'Well-you-you look like a-'
'Because you have given me this-'
'-stray dog caught in a motor accident.'
'-christmas gift-What?'
'Shit.' His eyes widened.
'What did you say?' She stood up almost immediately that she toppled. When he reached a hand to balance her she swatted it away. She was offended. A big way.
He was so stupid. She had such a good explanation which a corner of his mind got lost in merryland for its sweetness, but he? A stray dog? That too caught in a motor accident.
He saw her stomp her foot and walk away from him. Run rather.
'Hey! I am sorry!'
He made way through the crowd to catch her. Hitting a few shoulders and throwing a few sorries. But he had a major one to apologize for.
He found her walking through a rusted iron gate into a dim lit park.
'Hey!'
And midway the chase, he realized he didn't know her name. And neither did she know his. With crinkled eyebrows, he called another Hey. But this time she was nowhere to be seen.
She heard his heys and hellos echoing through the silent park. She was actually fuming. How dare he call her a stray dog? With a thud, she sat on the park bench running her fingers through her head again and again.
Of course, there was a truth when he called her. Because she had been called the same. A milder version by her very own family.
They used to say she resembled an abandoned puppy. With the lost look in eyes and trembling body. She never liked being called that especially when her family consisted of brave women known for fighting hard in the male-dominated world. Her sister would try to console her by saying she looked like a cute abandoned puppy. But an abandoned puppy nonetheless.
She could hear him come closer and she was just not ready to face him. It was not just anger, but embarrassment. She thought for once a person had not seen her as fragile and weak but he proved to be just like them. She felt embarrassed to have believed this stranger so soon, so stupidly.
When she heard him right behind, breathing out, 'Found you!' she hid her head between her knees waiting for his now familiar warmth to be seated beside her.
But that never came. Confused she turned back to look at her companion only to see his hands raised with a gun pointed at him.
Keep calm. Keep Calm. He chanted to his rapidly beating heart. You are not going to die today. Probably the gun doesn't even have a bullet. He gave a nervous smile to the masked figure that had somehow managed to ambush him just as he was about to reach towards the girl sitting on the bench.
The burglar took a step closer and his heart beat at a more inhumanly possible speed. Calm down. Calm down. And right when he was supposed to calm he heard a shrill scream.
Why now? He sighed dejectedly and saw her pale with fright. Her scream had died from her open mouth. Bad move, miss.
The burglar realizing there was another person scrambled further pointing the gun at her making his eyes go wide but then the amateur burglar turned the gunpoint towards him. He did this twice moving his gun in a wide arc.
Now if it were a movie with the handsome looking hero skilled to fight off the villain, he would have kicked off the gun and pinned the guy down. But unfortunately, he was just handsome not skilled.
He mused how he could joke even in such a situation when the burglar made up his mind to lodge him between his arm and point the gun at his head.
She gasped audibly.
'Yo girl! Better give me what you have if you don't want this loser here to die.'
'Who are you calling loser!' The captive rebutted but both the burglar and the girl shushed him with a glare.
So much for pinning down the villain.
'Quick!'
She nodded shakily and pulled out her wallet from her purse and reached it out. She was still sitting on the park bench turned midway to face them. The burglar dragged himself and him towards her.
'Take it.' He ordered him.
With shaking hands he took the wallet from her. The burglar instructed to throw it away on the ground.
'Your phone lady!'
When she hesitated, the burglar's grip on his neck tightened and he coughed. He saw her whimper and immediately pull out the iPhone from her dress pocket.
With the same drill, he took it from her, but this time instead of throwing it on the ground, he smacked the burglar's head hard with it and simultaneously back kicked his groin.
The pian reflexively pulled the trigger.
Shoot. Bad move.
Both their eyes widened.
He was going to die. He didn't want to die. Hie eye flew towards her silver one. He didn't want to die without knowing her name. That was the last thing on his mind.
'No!' She screamed and the body fell to the ground groaning in pain.
