수지(Suzy), 백현(BAEKHYUN) - Dream

'So do you.'

He nodded and then with a sigh he added, 'What now?'

Confusion crossed her grey eyes. 'Go home I guess.'

He shrugged and looked around. She was almost sure that he would turn to go back to the restaurant and wait for his date or maybe leave just like her.But she didn't want that. Now finding herself an accomplice, she felt a need to not let him go. So she asked the first thing that popped into her head, 'Why did you come outside?'

Pink painted his visibly smooth cheeks and his mouth opened and closed each time only mumbling an 'umm'.

She found it comical and let out a small giggle. Sensing she wasn't that serious, he smiled.

'I don't know. Saw your purse on the table and thought of giving it you but the waiter beat me into it.'

'Oh.'

'I guess the waiter was trying to make an impression', he teased with a boyish grin.

She shuddered at the thought and shook her head. Before she could stop the words, she asked, 'What you are going to do now?'

That was a question. The question. What was he going to do now? Wait for the never turning up date or not?

He scratched his chin in thought and when his eyes caught the girl's curious gaze, he got an idea.

'I mean I should be waiting, but why would I want to waste a night like this?'

'Huh?' She shuffled from one foot to the other, the heels were killing her.

'I think I will leave.'

Her face fell with a hidden sadness.

'Maybe roam around the city. It's beautiful at night.'

The way he said beautiful with that dazed look was so tempting. And she just so wanted to know what was so beautiful about it. She had never roamed the city at night, not even in daylight. She was always chaperoned. And that too to balls and galas. And vacationing with friends was out of the question given her introvert nature. But just this one night when she was tired of waiting and sick of being stood up, she wanted to be free. To roam the city.

When he saw the happiness tinged with sadness in her eyes and ghost of a smile on her lips, he knew she too wanted the same as him.

But did she want to do that with him?

He was nervous to even ask that. Normally he was a confident chap who spoke his mind but asking a girl clearly of an upper status probably a daughter of an influential businessman to roam with him, a stranger, all alone was nerve wrecking. But he wanted to. So badly wanted to know what kind of company she was and truth told he was not ready to leave her yet. But-

'Can I join you?' She asked.

He realized she had asked it. He visibly let out a huge breath and laughed.

God, she had made a fool of herself again. Of course, he would laugh. She was brazen enough to ask a man if he wanted to spend the night with her. Putting it that way did sound bad. But maybe because she looked small and fragile he didn't think she would be a good company. Frustration piled up. Why would she do that!

She waited till he laughed a hearty laugh. She donned a bored look trying to hide her anger.

'Thank god you asked it. I was scared to ask so myself.'

Taken aback, her mouth hung open. Before she could say a word, he walked towards her. With a foot apart; he turned her around by her shoulders.

The chill wind nipped her exposed skin. They were walking towards the parking lot without any words exchanged.

He was busy finding his car in the lot regretting not taking the service of a valet. Seeing her shiver again when a new gush of wind blew he asked, 'Did you leave your coat back in the restaurant?'

'No. It's in my car.' She mumbled against the shiver.

'Well then let's get it'.

He was about to ask where her car was, when she caught his wrist, 'Don't. If Mr. Roy knows about this he would never allow it.'

'Who is Mr. Roy?'

'My chaperone or in other words babysitter.' She cringed avoiding his eyes.

He chuckled, 'And what exactly wouldn't he allow?'

Didn't he know it? 'Uh, me having a night out.'

He smirked, 'You made it sound like you were eloping with me.'

Ignoring her wide eyes, he turned back and yelled a thank you when he spotted his Lambo while she huffed a white mist wondering was it safe to be with a stranger. Then it hit her. She in a way eloping, for lack of dramatizing the situation.

Her iPhone had vibrated with messages and she had decided to ignore it. She was doing something without Mr. Roy's knowledge or her father's for the matter. And the cherry on top, all this with a stranger.

But why should she feel so guilty right now? Why not when she is halfway through the night or maybe the next day. Like all the time, why should she get a cold foot right before she begins to start something she has never done before.

'Hey! I have a spare coat!'

She looked up to see him grin with his hands raised in thumbs up. He looked excited like a boy who had just won a treasure hunt or probably going to begin one.

And just like that she walked towards red Lambo and smiled a thanks.

'So where do you wanna go first?' He asked his eyes strained hard on the road ahead.

Drawn from the cider scent of his car, she pondered on the question.

'You know what, don't.'

She looked at him as he peered down at her with a gentle smile.

He parked the car on the side of the road and got out.

He noticed that she was still seated clutching to the seatbelt as if it were armor. 'Come out', he beckoned waving his hand.

'What place is this?' She asked looking at the deserted road dotted by streetlights on either side along with a bunch of scattered shops and apartments to fill the space. He looked around and pointed to a sign that read 6th Avenue, Wilhelm.

'And you stopped here because?' She hung the last word in the air as he began to walk away, with her running up to catch him.

'Because.' He replied finding the girl in step with him.

'I don't get it.'

He shook his head and she found the curls flying around quite mesmerizing, 'You don't have to get it. Random road walking is the first step to any city roams.'

His explanation somewhat made sense.

And they were walking aimlessly in the safe warmth of his coats. She looked around at what would have been a plain street with plain buildings with amusement, he was indeed right. She had never seen worn out apartments, littered buildings, and shops whose advisement board had been writing over and over again. She found it a soothing change from the meticulously maintained gardens and the pristine mansions in her area.

'Look there.' he pointed to a patch of orange-yellow light escaping from a door along with sounds of laughter and music.

On impulse, he entwined their fingers and dragged her to the place. He read the sign outside, Steak-y Dinner.

He didn't realize how hungry he had been until he got a whiff of freshly made food and caught the site of a jammed room with people laughing and chattering. Their sound drowned even the loud music playing from the karaoke box.

'You hungry?' He asked her finding her staring at the freshly placed plate at a nearby table. She liked her lips and nodded yes.

They had to wait a few minutes for a table to be cleared. She found him feeling at place. She wondered if any of this was new to him as was for her. She for starters had never seen these many people in such a small place. The air was hot, a contrast to the outside. She was surrounded by noise and the enjoyment and enthusiasm of each of the customer were so contagious that she found herself grinning despite a growling stomach.

'Sir, mam.'

A waiter waved at them from a just cleared table. She hurriedly made way pulled him by their still entwined finger.

'Thank you.' she heard him say with a laugh. 'She is very hungry I suppose.'

The waiter just grinned and handed both of them the menu. But he immediately pulled her menu form her hand and said to the waiter, 'We'll have your signature, the Steak?'

'Oh yes, sir. I will bring you our home recipe of steak  with mashed potatoes.' The waiter was really happy to hear that order.

He took her coat which she had removed right away, from her hand and placed both their coats on the couch they were seated in the open booth, beside him. He moved closer to her and smiled.

'What?' She scoffed and looked away.

'Nothing just that your dress and hairdo looks out of place.'

She looked back to find him already without his neck bow and sleeves rolled up to his elbow. Was she out of place?

Without a word, he pulled off a few pins from her hair letting her delicate tresses fall on her shoulder. She brushed the free hair with her hand asked whether was this look better?

He nodded with a smile and that moment he looked so vulnerably cute that she mentally cooed.

Laughing at his antics, she found the waiter coming their way with the much-awaited food.

He already dug into his plate and took the first bite moaning from the splendid taste, when he saw her searching for something. He raised his eyebrow and she shook her head.

'There is no knife, I should ask the waiter.'

He quickly swallowed the piece and pulled down her raised hand. 'Don't, silly.'

'Huh?'

He found her cluelessness absolutely amusing. His was sure this was her first time in a dinner unlike him.

'The steaks are already cut into pieces'.

She looked at her plate with wide eyes, 'You want me to eat this big piece in one go?!'

'Why not?'

'It is very unladylike. The juices would spill and I would make a mess. I have to cut it into small pieces.'

He wiped his mouth and shook his head with an amused smile,

'No, you don't have to follow the etiquettes every time you know?' He turned back to his plate giving her a sideways glance.

Still seeing her not making a move, he further added, 'No one is going to judge you here anyway.'

He took a spoonful of the potatoes and immediately plunged for the next steak piece.

'Won't you?' She asked.

He thought that she was teasing him but when he looked at her broken and naive expression he knew that she wasn't.

'Seriously?'

She bit her lower lip and nodded slowly her cheeks turning red.

'Hell no!' He scoffed. 'That's absurd. One should be able to enjoy their food with no need of pleasing others.'

'But-'

He narrowed his eyes at her daring her to defy him. He took a deep breath in and poked the meat with the fork.

Here goes nothing. And as she put in the huge piece in her mouth all at once, he clapped for her victory.

She glared at him but he was very much happy nonetheless.

She grabbed a tissue to wipe the side of her mouth but then soon forgot all about it as she swelled into its taste.

'Oh my god, it is so heavenly.' she grinned not realizing that she was showing her stained teeth to him.

He hid his face in his palm and chuckled. 'Yes, indeed.'

Soon they fell into a sync of enjoying the heavenly delight with a coke to go. In between bites they would talk about how good the food was or how it was possible for the waiter to carry those many plates at once. Or they would comment on the variety of people there.

Not once did they talk about themselves and for both, it was a relief.

Paying the bill, split into half he called out to her. She was admiring the various vintage photographs and newspaper clips on the wall.

'What you lookin' at?' He asked, taking a place beside her looking at the frames.

'How happy they are.' She breathed looking at genuine smiles of the younger black and white versions of the owners and he was looking at her, seeing and liking the little smile on her lips.
