Entry for My LA Teacher
My Language Arts teacher was wondering how well my work was edited and complete...so I stupidly recommended I bring something. So, this is what I picked. Tell me if I should add anything.

Title: Moonlight (Excerpt from Steel and Sapphire) (966 Words)
Author: Kuro (I Have My Real Name Here)
Genre: Hurt/Comfort/Tragedy
Pairing: none
Characters: Slade, Richard
Backstory: Slade is Richard's arch enemy, but they have a complicated relationship. Sometimes they are allies (only in times of need) and other times they're at each other's throats. Usually they're just neutral. Slade is also a (master and well known grey) mercenary and Richard is a teen hero (opposites attract I guess). So, Slade sees Richard as a younger version of himself and wants him as an apprentice. But, with Richard on the opposite side of the law, he always refuses. At one point, Slade blackmails him into becoming his apprentice, despite him escaping soon after. Richard is the leader of a group of teen heroes.
Summary: After a fallout with his team and is kicked out, Richard finds himself lightly crying underneath a willow. He's alone until the master mercenary finds him. ______________________________________________________________ I leaned up against the large oak tree trunk. Its ridges cut through the back of my hero uniform and slightly into my back. Tears dripped down my face after they had penetrated my mask bottom. I used one hand to feel the soft grass and one to flick some tears off.
While I stared emotionless into the moonlight shedding itself onto grass and anything it could reach, soft-almost silent-footsteps reached my ears. I didn't even have to turn my head to know who it was.
He spoke from behind when he reached my tree, "Hello, Richard. Where's your little team? Finally decided that they don't need you anymore?"
I once hated him. His smooth talk, calm demeanor, sly tones. Not to forget the master skilled manipulation. All of it. I use to think he was the enemy. The black to the white. But now, a new shade has broken through; Grey.
I still gazed into the moon in awe as I spoke with a quiet tone. "I'm jealous of the moon. The way it can still glow brightly in the darkest of days, never giving up on it's job. The way it can cause anything to be beautiful with it's silver glow. But it can also be dangerous. It can hide the most dangerous things; Monsters, some would call. Things that go bump in the night." I took a deep sigh,"what are you doing here, Slade?"
I turn my head to find him taking a seat to the right of me. He put most of his weight on his hands, which were behind him on the grass. Slade's legs were parallel with each other and mine in front of him. He tilted his head as he too looked into the view sprayed in front of us. As he closed his one visible eye, he looked relaxed but still on guard.
His smooth voice cut the silence that had taken over, "I only want to talk, little bird. What are you doing out here, alone might I add?"
"Only contemplating and waiting." I turned my head towards my left. There laid a large black duffel bag. I zipped it open with a tear stained glove and pulled out a small silver and black device. It was one of the blades Slade had provided me when I was forced to be his apprentice. It still had the-almost-threatening 'S' insignia, which was carved in the middle of a circle that sprouted 2 long, wickey sharp, curvy blades.
At some point while I was admiring the blades, he opened his silver and blue eye. It was almost a steel grey and it sparkled in the similar colored moonlight. Though it was usually emotionless, it still had small hints of emotion. As if to tell you that he's still alive and listening, always listening. His eye is like the Eye of Horus; omniscient always lurking and aware. His pupil was like a black hole; taking up your attention from other things. I feel like it could devour you.
His voice grew soft, "you still have it."
I set down the blade in between my legs, grabbed the duffle bag, and heaved it in between us,"I have all of it, Slade. I kept it all."
Slade's eye widened as he pulled out the 2 colored apprentice outfit, a few more blades, and the spiked edged domino mask. "Does this mean-"
I interrupted, "yes, I want to be your apprentice again." Slade turned his head towards me, his eye settled back down. Though if you looked closely, you could tell he still was a bit surprised. He reached his hand up to my face and began to wipe the silent tears off my face. I leaned into the touch, trusting him.
"Why?"
"I lost so many people and I just don't want to be hurt anymore."
Slade's eye softened, "Richard....you'll always be hurting. The best thing you can do now is mold it into a strength. I may want you as an apprentice, but on only your free will. Is this what you really want?"
I nodded and wrapped my lithe arms around his Kevlar covered chest. Surprised by the hug, he slowly wrapped his muscular arms around my body. He started to stroke my raven hair and whispered reassuring things. Slade let me go so he could picked up the duffle bag with one hand and throw it over his shoulder, after packing everything back up again. With now two open arms Slade embraced me bridal style and stood up. He began to walk towards his haunt.
"Let's go, Apprentice."
