Chapter 3

Pinky: Anika, Shivaay ka kamra vaha hai, tu jaa aur uska madat maango
(Anika, that one is Shivaay's bedroom. You go and ask for his help)

Anika: pehle mein jaake file leker aati
(First I'll go get my file)

Pinky nodded before leaving her to do what she needed. Anika quickly returned and was about to straight enter his room when she abruptly stopped at the door, hearing some noise.

Shivaay: I really don't care Mishra, mujhe kisi bhi keemat per voh deal chahiye.
(I really don't care Mishra, I want that Deal at any cost)

There was a short lived pause, before his rage continued

Shivaay: kya matlab hai tumhara? Patel company ke haatho mein gaya? FHAT THE WUCK?
(What do you mean? It's gone to the Patel's company? FHAT THE WUCK)

Anika spoke to herself in response to his shouting.

Anika: kamal hai, itna bada business man ko nahi pata gaali kese dete. Shabdon ko mess up kardiya. Lekin bichara aadmi, Mishra ji? Itna daant pada, mujhe uspe taras aara hai
(That's amazing, such a big business man doesn't know how to properly abuse. He messed up the words. But that poor guy, Mishra Ji? He scolded his so much, I feel bad for him)

Shivaay: do you need anything?

She looked up to see him in front of him

Anika: madat
(Help)

Shivaay: okay, toh phir andar aao
(Okay, then come inside)

She joined him in his room, still clutching onto her file.

Anika: agar aap bura nahi maanoge toh,
(If you don't mind,)

Shivaay: mein kyu bura maanunga?
(Why would I mind?)

Anika's pov: ache se nahi bol sakti tu Anika? Pehle se hi tujhe michmichi machti, jab uske khareeb aati. Upar se sharmaati bohot
(Can't you say it properly Anika? Firstly you feel michmich when you're near him. On top of that you feel shy a lot)

Shivaay: what is this 'michi-michi' you speak of?

Little did she know that her thoughts came out vocally, and Shivaay had heard it all.

Anika: phirse raita phail gaya
(There's the problem again)

Shivaay: oh hello

He frantically shook his hand in front of her face and clicked his fingers multiple times

Anika: Ji?
(Yes?)

Shivaay: 'michi-michi'?

Anika: arrey michmichi, mich...michi, michmichi, aapko nahi pata? Voh hota hai naa, gandi wali feeling, pet mein gud-gud-gud-gud-gud-gud hoti. Ajeeb se current aati hai, Vahi bolte michmichi.
(Hey, michmichi, mich...michi, michmichi, you don't know? It happens na, that weird feeling, in your stomach it goes gud-gud-gud-gud-gud-gud. A weird current strikes in your body, that's called michmichi)

Her explanation was full of dramatic actions, weird facial expression and a change in her tone of voice every now and then. He couldn't help but gaze in aww at her. She was mature when needed, but innocent and childish at the same time.

Anika: samajh gaye?
(Understood?)

Shivaay: yeh words kaha se seekti? Tumhara kohi dictionary ka sale chalra hai kya? Mujhe ek copy chahiye, pata nahi aur kitne words aur phrases hai joh mujhe seekna padega
(Where do you learn all these words? Do you sell dictionaries that you write? I also want a copy, don't know how many words and phrases I would have to learn)

Anika was confused, and also temporarily shut up. She has a slight habit, only slight, that she carries on in her talks.

Anika: aapko mere words ka dictionary kyu chahiye?
(Why do you want a dictionary of my words?)

Shivaay: taaki I can understand tum kya bolri hogi. Pata nahi kab kya shabd ka istemal karegi
(So that I can understand what you are saying. Don't know when you will use what word)

Anika: mein itni dehr tak nahi rahungi
(I won't be staying here for long)

She's right, this isn't a permanent adjustment. One day or another she will move out.
For some random reason, Shivaay wanted to know something. It had been bothering him since the time he saw her. That time it didn't seem an appropriate question to ask, neither did now. But he just had to. Between you readers and me, it's not just any random reason 😉

Shivaay: Ani....

Anika: Ani?

Shit yaar, Shivaay what is this nickname business? And if you want to keep one then put something weird like how she had kept that Billu..... ugh, now itself he's feeling 'michmichi'

Shivaay: ka, Ani-ka, Anika

What a move, excellent cover up. Okay now just ask the question

Shivaay: do you have a boyfriend?

Anika laughed out loud hearing him. She read what was going on in his mind as it was written on his face.

Anika: apako lagta ki kohi ladka mujhe handle kar sakta? Sach mein laga? Arrey, mere baate se voh hairaan ho jaate. Voh mujhe control nahi kar sakte, I'm too good
(You think that a guy can handle me? Really? Hey they get astonished by my talks. They can't control me, I'm too good)

That's why, simple yes or no question. Anyway, he secretly enjoyed her session. It felt as if he could watch her all day long.

Anika: Vese aap kyu poochre the?
(By the way why were you asking?)

His eyes scanned the room for an excuse, when he saw a file at Anika's feet.

Shivaay: dekho aaj 3 ghante mein meeting hai, toh kaam shuru karein?
(Look, I have a meeting in 3 hours, so shall we begin?)

As much as he wished to stay and help her (okay it was actually another reason 🤫) Shivaay needed to attend the meeting. He had postponed it too many times, so not attending it wouldn't be an option.

Anika: ji, shuru karte
(Yes, we'll start)

Anika picked up the file from her feet and sat on the couch after be invited her to do so. Shivaay sat near to her and took her file from her hands. As you may have guessed already, this action lead to their hands brushing past one another's, and Anika immediately snatched her hand back

Shivaay: kya hua?
(What happened?)

Anika: current lag gaye
(I got a shock)

Shivaay: kya?
(What?)

Anika: electrical wala jhatka sa, shock laga
(An electrical current, a shock)

Shivaay: kese?
(How?)

Anika thought for second. He isn't a live wire that would give her a shock, but it felt too real to be her vivid imagination.

Anika: chodiye, aap please mere file ko check ki jiye
(Leave it, check my file for me please)

Brushing their thoughts aside, Shivaay and Anika began to check through the files. He carefully reviewed each paper twice as if it was his own work that he was submitting.

Shivaay: yaha sab kuch perfect lagta, aab questions ka time aageya. Interviews mein savaal poochte toh I'll quiz you on that as well.
(Everything here looks perfect, now the time for questions. In the interview they will ask you questions so I'll quiz you on those as well)

Anika: mein yeh nahi kar sakti. Isi liye mere files perfect hone chahiye kyuki mein nervous hoti jab bolne ki baari aati hai
(I can't do this. This is why my files should be perfect because I get nervous when it comes to talking)

Shivaay thought, oh really Anika? You say everything that comes to your mund, even your dil ki baate (heart's words) when your supposed to keep them inside. Your sweet voice constantly fills the room, how can you possibly be nervous when it comes to talking?

Shivaay: we'll practice then

Anika: theek hai
(Okay)

She reluctantly agrees. After a lot of practice, Anika finally gathers answers to all the possible questions she could be asked

Shivaay: vese ek baat batao, tum bohot bolti, Interviews mein tumhara kyu pat thi hai?
(Okay tell me one thing, you talk a lit so then why do you get so nervous in interviews?)

Anika: yaha kohi nahi hai joh mujhe judge karega, toh mein khud ban sakti
(Here there is no one to judge me so I can be myself)

When you're amongst family and friends, behaviour differs. Certain places require a sense on formality that isn't needed at home

Shivaay: well aab mein chalta, meeting ka vact aagaya
(Well now I'll get going, it's time for my meeting)

Anika: mein bhi chalti
(I'll go too)

Anika goes to the door and abruptly stops again hearing Shivaay screaming the phone.

Shivaay: Mishra, tum ek kaam bhi nahi kar sakte? Pata nahi mein tujhe kese jhelta
(Mishra can't you do one job? I don't know how I cope with you)

Anika: mujhe nahi pata voh aapko kese jhelta, joh itna bada tadibaaz hai
(I don't know how he copes with you, as your such a big 'tadibaaz')

She murmured to herself before leaving from there. Before she actually took a step, she remembered her file was still inside. Anika walked back in and he had just finished his call.

Shivaay: kya hua?
(What happened?)

Was his mood spoilt? Yes. Did he want to take it all out on Anika? No.

Anika: meine apna file yaha chod liya
(I left my file behind)

He handed over the file.

Shivaay: just to confirm a few things...

His voice was interrupted by Anika's ringing phone. She declined the call and turned back to him.

Anika: aap keh re the?
(You were saying?)

Shivaay: yes, yaad rakhna ki....
(Yes, remember that....)

Once again Shivaay's words were left incomplete due to another ring of the phone. This time Shivaay didn't let anika decline the call, rather he snatched the phone and threw it on the floor. Anika simply watched in horror as her phone shattered into numerous tiny pieces.

Anika: yeh aapne kya kiya?
(What did you do here?)

The shocked girl asked him.

Shivaay: iPhone 7 tha, ache se thoda nahi
(It was an iPhone 7, it didn't break well)

On hearing the loud smash, Rudra and Om entered the room ready to witness the common scene but were amazed that Anika was a part of it. Rather, she was the victim. Tears did gather in her eyes, after all that phone had been running for some time and she bought as a reward of her hard work with her own earnings.

Om: don't tell me...

Rudra: aapne Anika Di ka phone thod diya?
(You broke Anika Di's phone?)

Anika: aur sorry kehne ke badle mein, daant raha ki acha phone nahi hai. Tadibaaz Bhagad Billa
(And instead of apologising, he's telling me off that my phone isn't nice)

Om: Shivaay, ese kese kar sakte?
(Shivaay how could you do this?)

Rudra: challo Di, humare saath aao
(Come on Di, come with us)

Anika went with Om and Rudra, leaving a guilty Shivaay.

Shivaay: come on Shivaay, tujhe esa nahi karna chahiye. Bichari ka dil toot gaya, phone ki tarah.
(Come on Shivaay, you shouldn't have done like this. Poor thing, her heart broke as well as the phone)

On the other side, Om and Rudra were walking with Anika.

Om: sorry about Shivaay

Rudra: Bhaaiya ka purana aadat hai
(It's his old habit)

Anika: kya, phone thodna?
(What, breaking phones?)

Her voice held both confusion and sarcasm, after all how would one react to such weird habits?

Rudra: aap burha naa mano
(Don't feel very bad about it)

Anika: nahi, dharasal meri choti behn ki phone ane wali thi, toh pata nahi kese usko jawaab doh
(No, actually i was expecting a call from my younger sister, so I don't know how I'll give her an answer now)

Om: Anika you can use my phone

Rudra: haa, vese bhi kuch mint ki baat hai. Jab tak hum aapke liye ek naya phone nahi dhoond the, humae poocho
(Yes anyways it's only a matter of a few minutes. Until we don't find a new phone for you, feel free to ask us)

He side hugged her and explained how they are there for her.

Rudra: vese call ke pehle, mein ek baat phooch sakta?
(Before you call, can I ask something?)

Anika: ji poochiye?
(Yes, ask?)

Rudra: what is 'Tadibaaz' and 'Bhagad Billa'

Anika: tadibaaz matlab voh joh tadi maarta. Jese aapke Bhai ka attitude aur arrogance. Aur Bhagad Billa usko describe karta.
(Tadibaaz means one who shows tadi. Like your brother's attitude and arrogance. And Bhagad Billa just describes him)

Om: okay, acha yeh le phone
(Okay here's the phone)

Anika: mein bas message chodungi, aap please bataye agar reply aata toh
(I'll just leave a message for her, you please tell me if she replies)

Rudra: theek hai Didi
(Okay Didi)

Anika quickly finished what she had to do on Om's phone before returning it to him.

Rudra: Anika Didi, please photo dikhaye apni behn ki
(Anika Di please show a picture of your sister)

Anika: uska WhatsApp DP kholo, vaha hoga
(Open her WhatsApp picture, it will be there)

Om opens it and gets stuck in awe at the beautiful girl with her sister

Rudra: O hume bhi dikhao
(Om show us as well)

Om: yh, take it

Hoping none of the two noticed him in his own world, he hastily passed on the phone

Rudra: wow, Yeh Didi bhi aapki tarah lagti. Kaha hai voh?
(Wow, this Didi also looks just like you. Where is she?)

Anika: New York, parhai ke liye.
(New York, for her studies)

Rudra nodded before keeping a hand on Om's shoulder

Rudra: hume chalna chahiye, O?
(We should go, Om?)

Rudra glanced over at Om and saw him still staring at one place on the floor

Rudra: Didi per burha nazar na daalo
(Don't put a bad eye on Didi)

Om: kaam hai
(I have work)

Coming out of his dreamland, Om knew the first thing he had to do was escape, so he could avoid further embarrassment. He speed-walked out of their gaze

Anika: mujhe bhi jaana hai
(I also have to go)

Rudra: haa Didi, jao. Bye
(Yes Di, go. Bye)

Anika went on her way. On reaching the kitchen after keeping her file safe, Anika saw Pinky, Priyanka and Dadi had almost finished packing away boxes of mithai.

Anika: aap sab yaha kya kare hai? Mein madat kar sakti kya?
(What are all of you doing here? Can I help with anything?)

Pinky: bas mithai pack kare hai. Office mein hum har holidays per bithate hai.
(We're only packing sweet boxes. In the office, we distribute them on every holiday)

Anika: office mein, kya mein jaa sakti?
(In the office, can I go?)

Priyanka: okay, Khannah ke saath jaa sakti
(Okay, you can go with Khannah)

Priyanka was slightly puzzled as to why she wanted to go, but nevertheless agreed and helped her carry the boxes to the car. Priyanka also explained to Khannah and the two reached the office.

Anika: Khannah Ji, aap please batao Mishra Ji ke office kaha hai?
(Khannah can you please tell me where Mishra's office is?)

Khannah: Mishra? Matlab Shivaay Sir ka PA?
(Mishra? You mean Shivaay Sir's PA?)

Anika: Ji, voh. Kaha hoge?
(Yes, him. Where will he be?)

Khannah: agar voh abhi bhi yahi hai, toh room mein hoga, 6th floor, pehla door right side per
(If he is still here, then he'll be in his room. 6th floor the first door on the right hand side)

Anika: okay mein jaldi aati
(Okay, I'll come quickly)

Anika took one of the boxes and rushed up to the room. She saw the man, and was glad he hadn't already left.

Anika: Mishra Ji?

Mishra: ji, aap kaun?
(Yes, who are you?)

Anika: mein Oberoi's ki taraf se aayi, naam hai Anika
(I'm here kb behalf on the Oberois, my name is Anika)

Mishra: aaye, andhar aaye
(Come, come inside)

The PA welcomed her inside and shared a few talks. The bonded quite well, since both of them came from families that were in between middle and High class families. Before she was going to take her leave, Anika handed over the sweets.

Anika: in mithai ke saath, mujhe sorry bhi bolna hai
(Along with these sweets, I also want to say sorry)

The man was instantly confused, what had she done? Was he in some sort of danger? Worse, was he going to be fired?

Mishra: Ma'am, hum dono toh sirf abhi mile, sorry kyu? Kya aap mujhe mere naukri se nikal re hai?
(Ma'am, we both only met just now, why are you saying sorry? Are you taking me out from this job?)

She depicted on the fear in his voice, which made her realise how he took the wrong meaning of her words. Anika also realised that she came across in a bad way.

Anika: nahi, Mishra Ji. Aapke Shivaay Sir ke taraf se
(No Mishra Ji. On behalf of your Shivaay Sir)

Mishra: matlab pakka mera job haat se jaara hai
(Meaning definitely my job is slipping from my hands)

Anika: nahi. Sorry ki Shivaay ne aaj aap per chilaya tha. Meine usse suna, aur upar se bhi usne sorry nahi bola, toh mein aayi, maafi maangne ke liye
(No, sorry that Shivaay shouted on you today. I heard that, and on top of it he didn't say sorry. So I came, to apologise)

After the innocent girl in front of him completed her explanation, Mishra couldn't help put explode into fits of laughter. Contrary to this, Anika was extremely confused. Did she say something wrong, because her talks definitely didn't sound like comedy to her.

Anika: kya hua?
(What happened?)

Mishra: ma'am, yeh Sir ka roz ka kaam hai. Agar mujhe 1 rupee milta jabhi voh humper chilata, toh mein crorepati hota
(Ma'am, this is part of Sir's daily routine. If I had 1 rupee for every time he shouted at us, I'd be a millionaire)

Anika was even more shocked at this, was Shivaay that bad? Now she really felt bad for each and every employee, poor souls had to word under such a monster. Such a tadibaaz?

Anika: ros ka kaam?
(His everyday work?)

Mishra: Ji
(Yes)

So all that happened was a charade? When he lovingly made her understand, that was all an act to give her a good impression of himself?
Lovingly? Seriously Anika? Now you associate all this lovey dovey stuff with him?

Mishra: vese thank you, aapne ese socha ek anjaan insaan ke baare mein
(By the way thanks, you thought about a stranger in such a nice way)

Anika: arrey, ese kohi baat nahi. Mujhe bohot acha laga, aapse baat karke.
(Hey it's nothing like that. I found it nice, talking to you)

Mishra: aab mujhe chalna hoga. Meri Biwi ghar per intazaar kari hai. Sirf kuch hafte hoge humari shaadi karke
(Now I should get going. My wife is waiting at home. Only a few weeks back did we get married)

Anika: oh, Shaadi mubarak
(Oh, congratulations on the wedding)

Anika left as he also had to return. After this conversation, Anika thought a lot.

Anika: aab mujhe uss bhagad billa se bachke rehna hoga. Itna tadibaaz insaan ke aas paas hona shayad tabiyat ke liye kharab hoga. Sirf naukri pakka hota, phir mein ek chota sa apartment rent kar sakti aur voh Bhagad Billa se dhoor reh sakti, araam se. Mujhe roz daant nahi khaana hai, yaad rakhna Anika. Aab tujhe uss interview ko paas karna hoga, voh bhi with flying colours.
(Now I need to beware of that 'Bhagad Billa'. Maybe it's bad for health if I'm near such a 'Tadibaaz' person. Just my job should be certain, then I can rent out a small apartment and peacefully keep some distance from that 'Bhagad Billa'. I don't want to get scolded everyday, remember this Anika. Now you need to pass this interview, that too with flying colours)

Voice: ho gaya?
(Finished)

After she finished her talk session, she was disturbed by the auto driver in whose vehicle she was sat in

Driver: kab se apne aap se baat kari thi Madam. Aab batao toh sahi, kaha jaana hai
(From how long you are speaking with yourself Madam. Now tell, where do you want to go)

Anika: ghar, jaha mein rehti, obviously
(Home, where I live, obviously)

She gave a look to the driver as if he is stupid and sat back in the seat

Driver: Madam aap please kisi aur ke saath jao, mera dimaag maat khao 😡
(Madam please go in another auto, don't eat my head)

Anika: aab meine kya bola? 🤷‍♀️
(Now what did I say?)

The driver rolled his eyes. He already had a headache and on top of this, he was trying to drive the auto whilst Anika was driving him mad.

Driver: kya nahi bola, address toh batao
(What did you not say, tell the address)

Anika: oh, sorry meri galti 😅
(Oh sorry, my mistake)

Saving herself from embarrassment, Anika quickly gave the address and sat back, covering her face with her dupatta. The damage was already done though, but luckily the driver bought her home safe and sound

********
Hi guys, sorry this time update took too long.
Actually my health wasn't so good, so whenever I wrote this, it was in small chunks. This is also why the chapter isn't to a good standard.
Now I'm feeling little better so I will definitely try to compensate.
Acha see you guys soon 😊(hopefully)
