The Train Ride

The train chugged steadily out of Delhi, cutting through the countryside with rhythmic clatter. Inside the first-class cabin, the Kohli family occupied an entire section. The atmosphere was lively—filled with chatter, laughter, and an air of anticipation that seemed to ripple through the group.

Kartik: (leaning back in his seat, beaming) "Mujhe lagta hai, Ranbir, humari family ka yeh sabse special din hone wala hai! Bas socho, jab tum dono ek saath ek hi mandap mein baithe hoge—kya scene hoga!" (I think, Ranbir, this is going to be the most special day for our family! Just imagine, when you both are sitting together in the pavilion—what a scene it'll be!)

Ranbir: (fidgeting with his tie) "H-han... mandap... matlab h-han... woh scene... umm..." (Y-yeah... pavilion... I mean y-yeah... that scene... umm...)

Kartik couldn't hold back a chuckle, watching his younger brother dissolve into nervous stammers.

Naira: (teasing) "Ranbir, tumhare toh haalat abhi se kharab ho rahe hain! Shaadi ka din toh pata nahi kya hoga!" (Ranbir, your situation is getting worse already! I don't know what will happen on the wedding day!)

Ranbir: (running a hand through his hair, groaning) "Bhabhi, please na! Mujhe mat chhedo. Mujhse nahi hoga yeh sab..." (Sister-in-law, please! Don't tease me. I can't do all this)

Kairav: (jumping excitedly on his seat) "Chachu, aap tension kyun le rahe ho? Prachi chachi toh zarur haan bolengi! Phir aap dono... umm... woh karoge na, jo movies mein karte hain first night ko!" (Uncle, why are you taking tension? Prachi aunty will definitely say yes! Then you both... umm... will do what they do in movies on the first night!)

A stunned silence filled the cabin for a brief moment, followed by Kartik choking on his water and Naira's eyes widening in horror.

Naira: (scolding) "Kairav! Tumne yeh kahan seekha? Yeh koi baat karne ki cheez hai?!" (Kairav! Where did you learn this? Is this something you should be talking about?!)

Kairav looked sheepish, scratching the back of his head.

Kairav: (mumbling) "Mere doston ne ise TV par dekha...but yeh toh sab karte hain shaadi ke baad, right?" (I saw it on TV... but everyone does this after marriage, right?)

Kartik: (trying to contain his laughter) "Beta, woh sab movies ke liye hota hai. Tumhare jaise chhoti umar ke bache ko yeh sab nahi sochna chahiye!" (Son, that's all for movies. Kids your age shouldn't be thinking about this!)

Ranbir: (his face turning beet red) "Oh God! Kya ho raha hai yahaan?! Mujhe yeh baatein sunni bhi nahi thi!" (Oh God! What's happening here?! I didn't even want to hear this!)

Kairav pouted, folding his arms while Naira tried to distract him by handing him a snack. Ranbir buried his face in his hands, mumbling to himself.

Naitik: (calmly, with a small smile) "Ranbir beta, sharmao mat. Tum jitna nervous ho, utna hi yeh din yaadgar banega. Prachi ek samajhdar ladki lagti hai, aur tumhare saath khush rahegi." (Ranbir, don't be shy. The more nervous you are, the more memorable this day will be. Prachi seems like a sensible girl, and she'll be happy with you.)

Ranbir: (peeking through his fingers) "Par Papa, main usse kaise baat karunga? Main toh bas h-han ya n-nahi bol kar baith jaunga!" (But Papa, how will I talk to her? I'll just say y-yes or n-no and sit down!)

Kartik laughed, patting Ranbir on the shoulder.

Kartik: (grinning) "Bhai, agar bas haan bol di toh kaam ban jayega. Aur kya karna hai?" (Brother, if you just say yes, the job will be done. What else do you need to do?)

Ranbir: (desperately) "Aur kya?! Mujhse baat karni padhegi, questions ka jawab dena padhega... aur agar maine kuch ulta seedha bol diya toh?!" (What else?! I'll have to talk to her, answer questions... and what if I say something stupid?!)

Naira: (laughing) "Ranbir, jitne cute tum lagte ho na, agar tum ulta seedha bhi bol doge, Prachi ko toh bas haan hi karna hai." (Ranbir, as cute as you are, even if you say something silly, Prachi is definitely going to say yes.)

Ranbir: (groaning) "Aap log bas mazaak udaiye. Main toh waise hi mar gaya!" (You all just keep teasing me. I'm already dying here!)

Kairav, still munching on his snacks, piped up again.

Kairav: "Waise, chachu, chachi kitni sundar hongi? TV wali heroines jaisi?" (By the way, Uncle, will Aunty be as beautiful as TV heroines?)

Naira: (teasingly) "Aur agar nahi hui toh?" (And what if she isn't?)

Kairav: (shrugging) "Phir bhi Chachu lucky hain. Prachi chachi toh unhe pasand karengi, kyunki Chachu toh sabse zyada smart lag rahe hain aaj!" (Even then, Uncle is lucky. Prachi Aunty will like him because Uncle is looking the smartest today!)

Ranbir couldn't help but crack a small smile despite his nerves. The lively banter continued as the train sped toward Sheetgiri. The family's excitement filled the cabin, though Ranbir's stomach was a bundle of knots. As the scenery outside transformed into lush fields and distant hills, the reality of meeting Prachi loomed closer—and Ranbir could barely breathe.

2 hours later:

The Kohli family had just arrived in Sheetgiri. The sun cast a golden glow over the small station, where bustling crowds moved about, the earthy aroma of the town mixing with the crisp, fresh air. Naira excused herself to the washroom while Kartik, Naitik, and Kairav handled the luggage. Ranbir, still jittery about the meeting, was tasked with calling Rajeshwaran Aggarwal to inform them of their arrival.

Standing a little away from the family, Ranbir pulled out his phone, his fingers trembling slightly as he dialed the number Naira had given him. The phone rang twice before a soft, melodious voice answered from the other side.

Prachi: (gentle and curious) "Hello?"

Ranbir froze. His breath hitched as if the word had stolen every ounce of air from his lungs. He wasn't expecting this—was this her? His mind screamed at him to say something, anything, but his voice refused to cooperate.

Ranbir: (stammering internally, thinking) "Yeh... yeh Prachi hai? Oh God! Yeh toh uski awaaz hai... kya bolun? Kuch bolna hoga!" (This... this is Prachi? Oh God! That's her voice... what should I say? I have to say something!)

The silence stretched for a beat too long, making Prachi frown slightly on the other end of the line.

Prachi: (a little hesitant) "Hello? Kaun hai?" (Hello? Who is this?)

Ranbir: (finally blurting, his voice cracking) "H-hello!"

Hearing his voice made Prachi pause. She didn't recognize it, but there was something warm and kind in its nervousness.

Prachi: (politely) "Ji, aap kaun bol rahe hain?" (Yes, who is speaking?)

Ranbir's brain felt like it had short-circuited. His mouth opened and closed, but no coherent words came out. He could feel his palms sweating as his heart pounded in his chest.

Ranbir: (barely audible) "W-w-woh... m-main..."(T-This...m-me)

Before Prachi could press further, a sudden, excited voice piped up in the background. Namrata had appeared, catching sight of the phone in Prachi's hand.

Namrata: (giggling and reaching for the phone) "Mujhe do, mujhe do! Yeh toh humare hone wale jiju ka phone hoga!" (Give it to me, give it to me! This must be our future brother-in-law's call!)

Prachi, confused and worried, handed over the phone like it was a ticking time bomb. Namrata snatched it eagerly.

Namrata: (cheerfully into the phone) "Hello Jiju! Main Namrata bol rahi hoon! Aap pahunch gaye kya? Kaisi lagi Sheetgiri?" (Hello Brother-in-law! This is Namrata speaking! Have you arrived? How do you like Sheetgiri?)

Prachi: (confused) "Namrata, yeh kaun hai?" (Namrata, who is this?)

Namrata: (giggling) "Arey, Jiju hai! Ranbir Kohli! Meri Jiji ke hone wale pati(Oh, it's brother-in-law! Ranbir Kohli! My sister's soon-to-be husband!)"

Prachi's eyes widened in shock. She hadn't expected to hear from him—especially not like this. Her cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and nervousness.

Prachi: (hushed, to Namrata) "Namrata! Tum pagal ho kya? Mujhe phone do!" (Namrata! Are you crazy? Give me the phone!)

Namrata: (ignoring her sister, to Ranbir) "Jiju, aap kaise lag rahe ho? Maine suna aap TV pe kitne handsome lagte ho!" (Brother-in-law, how are you looking? I heard you look so handsome on TV!)

Ranbir: (still struggling, his voice barely a whisper) "H-han... umm... achha." (Y-yeah... umm... good.)

Kartik walked by and noticed Ranbir's face, which had turned an alarming shade of red.

Kartik: (smirking, whispering) "Kya hua? Prachi ka phone lag gaya kya?" (What happened? Did Prachi pick up the call?)

Ranbir shot him a helpless look, shaking his head in disbelief. Meanwhile, Namrata continued her enthusiastic conversation.

Namrata: (grinning) "Waise, Jiju, Sheetgiri pasand aaya na? Jaldi aaiye humse milne!" (By the way, brother-in-law, do you like Sheetgiri? Come meet us soon!)

Prachi: (finally snatching the phone away, her voice flustered) "Namrata! Tum hamesha aise hi behave karti ho!" (Namrata! You always behave like this!)

Ranbir heard the brief sound of Prachi's voice again, and his stomach did a somersault.

But Prachi, mortified, immediately disconnected the call. Ranbir stared at the screen, his heart still pounding, while Namrata giggled uncontrollably.

Kartik: (laughing) "Bhai, tum toh pehle phone call mein hi itne nervous ho gaye. Socho jab saamne bethi hogi, tab kya haal hoga(Brother, you're so nervous just over a phone call. Imagine how it'll be when she's sitting right in front of you!)"

Ranbir: (groaning and hiding his face) "Mujhse yeh nahi hoga. Yeh sab bohot mushkil hai(I can't do this. This is too difficult!)"

Naira returned just then, looking confused as she saw Ranbir's flustered state.

Naira: "Kya hua? Tumhare chehre ka rang kyun ud gaya?" (What happened? Why has all the color drained from your face?)

Kartik, laughing uncontrollably, patted her shoulder.

Kartik: "Pehla phone call tha Prachi se. Aur Ranbir toh bas... bas Ranbir tha!" (It was his first phone call with Prachi. And Ranbir was just... being Ranbir!)

Ranbir sighed deeply, wondering how he would survive the actual meeting when a simple "hello" from her had shaken him to his core.

Scene 1: Traditional Women in Black Lehenga Begin the Song

[The camera opens on a picturesque rural setting in Sheetgiri, with traditional women dressed in black lehengas. They are gracefully carrying water jars on their heads, their bangles jingling rhythmically. As they walk in a line, the air fills with their harmonious singing.]

Women (singing in unison):

"Nachan laagyo re bairagi mann,

Arre bhaagan laagyo re bairagi mann..."

[Their voices echo through the market, attracting the attention of the townsfolk. A group of children begins to follow them, clapping along. In the middle of this charming chaos, Ranbir Kohli steps out of his car, dressed in his suit and tie. His eyes shine with excitement as he takes in the vibrant market.]

Scene 2: Ranbir Joins In, Buys Sweets

[Ranbir takes a deep breath and starts walking through the market. He's smiling at everyone, stopping at a sweet shop adorned with colorful sweets like gujiya and barfi. As he picks up a tray of sweets, he bursts into song, his voice warm and lively.]

Ranbir (singing):

"Aaj unse milna hai hum mein,

Aaj unse milna hai hum mein,

Chal unke liye kuch lete chale,

Aur unko duayein dete chale,

Thodi gunjiya wunjiya lete chale,

Thodi barfi warfi lete chale..."

[The sweet vendor smiles nervously, awestruck to have such a big celebrity buying from him. A group of children gather around, tugging at Ranbir's kurta.]

Child 1: "Ranbir bhaiya, aap humare gaon ki queen se milne aaye ho"(Ranbir brother, have you come to meet the queen of our village?)

Ranbir (laughing): "Haan, bilkul. Tumhare gaon ki sabse khaas ladki se milne."(Yes, absolutely. To meet the most special girl in your village)

Child 2: "Kya humko bhi mithai milegi?"(Will we also get sweets)

Ranbir: "Tum sabko milegi! Par pehle mujhe unke liye le lena do."(You all will get it! But first let me get it for her.)

[Ranbir buys the sweets and hands over a small packet to the children, who cheer happily.]

Scene 3: The Royal Music and Dream

[As the market transforms into a festive atmosphere, traditional musicians with dhols and shehnais begin playing. Ranbir, inspired by the royal beats, spins with the children and even some women who join the dance. His steps match the rhythm, and the crowd cheers him on. The music crescendos, and in his mind, he dreams of Prachi.]

[In his vision, she's dressed as a regal queen, standing on the steps of a grand palace, her lehenga shimmering under the sun. Her soft smile leaves him breathless.]

Ranbir (dreaming, singing softly):

"Mahalon ki rani hai,

Sunder sayani hai,

Woh khandani hai jaan-e-dil,

Kya kya khareedein hum,

Kya na khareedein hum,

Kya de nishani yeh hai mushkil..."

[The music becomes grander as Ranbir twirls in reality, still caught in the dream, before snapping back to the present.]

Scene 4: Ranbir Takes Out Her Picture

[As the festive music fades, Ranbir steps aside to a quieter corner of the market. He pulls out Prachi's picture from his pocket, gazing at it with admiration. His fingers lightly trace her face in the photograph.]

Ranbir (softly, to the picture):

"Tum sach mein mahalon ki rani lagti ho, Prachi... kaisi ho tum? Mujhe milne ka intezaar kar rahi ho kya?"(You really look like the queen of palaces, Prachi... how are you? Are you waiting to meet me)

[He kisses the picture gently, a tender smile on his lips. He starts humming again.]

Ranbir (singing):

"Mahalon ki rani hai,

Sunder sayani hai,

Woh khandani hai jaan-e-dil,

Kya kya khareedein hum,

Kya na khareedein hum,

Kya de nishani yeh hai mushkil..."

Scene 5: Buying Savory Snacks

[Ranbir moves to the next stall, where the vendor is selling mathri, chakli, and chevda. He samples a piece of mathri, nodding in approval, and begins to fill a basket with a variety of snacks. The vendor can't stop smiling.]

Vendor: "Ranbir ji, aapke liye yeh sab toh meri taraf se hai!"(Ranbir, all this is from me for you!)

Ranbir (grinning): "Arre nahi, bhaiya. Tumhare mehnat ke paise zaroor milenge!"(Oh no, brother. You will definitely get paid for your hard work)

[He bursts into song again as the vendor packs everything.]

Ranbir (singing):

"Thodi mathri vathri lete chale,

Thodi chakli chevda lete chale,

Kuch teekha veekha lete chale,

Kuch khatta meetha lete chale..."

[The townspeople gather around, joining in clapping and dancing as Ranbir continues his joyful shopping spree.]

Scene 6: The Anticipation of Meeting Her

[Ranbir leans against a shop wall, catching his breath. His arms are now full of bags—sweets, snacks, and gifts. He looks up at the sky, his excitement spilling over.]

Ranbir (singing softly, thoughtful):

"Unse milenge,

Toh hum kya kahenge,

Yeh socha na, samjha na, jaana hai..."

[His voice becomes more emotional, imagining himself confessing his feelings to Prachi.]

Ranbir (singing):

"Shayad kahe aaise,

Unka hamesha se,

Sar aankhon par hi thikana hai..."

[He imagines Prachi blushing as he speaks to her for the first time. The thought makes him smile to himself.]

Scene 7: Final Cheerful Song and Mystery Man Appears

[As Ranbir finishes his shopping, he spots a vendor selling cashew and raisins. He buys small packets of each, ensuring he's prepared for every taste Prachi might like.]

Ranbir (singing happily):

"Thode kaju kishmish lete chale,

Sab thoda thoda lete chale,

Chalo unke liye kuch lete chale,

Aur unko duayein dete chale...

Aaj unse milna hai hum mein

Aaj unse milna hai hum mein"

Traditional Women:

"Nachan laagyo re bairagi mann

Arre bhaagan laagyo re bairagi mann

Nachan laagyo re bairagi mann"

The market erupts into applause as Ranbir bows dramatically, his arms full of gifts.

He starts walking back toward his car when the camera pans to a dark alley. A shadowy figure steps out, his fists clenched, his eyes burning with rage.

Mysterious Man (growling):

"Prachi meri hai. Ranbir Kohli, tu usse shaadi karne se pehle hi khatam ho jayega." (Prachi is mine. Ranbir Kohli, you will be finished before you can marry her)

[The screen fades on Ranbir, happily oblivious to the danger following him.]
