Date Night
Prachi entered the guest room, feeling a rush of emotions after her conversation with Ranbir. She walked toward the bed and set her bag down, trying to push her thoughts about him aside. She needed to focus, but something inside her wouldn't let her.
The room was quiet, the faint hum of the AC filling the space. As Prachi opened her window to let in some fresh air, she noticed the moonlight spilling over the streets of Delhi, casting a silvery glow on everything below. The view was peaceful, but something felt off tonight.
Her phone buzzed, and she picked it up to see a message from
Ranbir: "Look outside your window."
At first, Prachi thought it was just one of his playful teases, but then, a chill ran down her spine. She quickly glanced out the window again—just in time to see a shadowy figure scaling the side of the building, making its way up the pipes toward her window. Her heart skipped a beat.
Prachi (whispering to herself): "Yeh... yeh kya ho raha hai(What... what is happening?)"
She felt her throat tighten with panic as the figure reached her window. Her mind raced—who could this be? Was someone here to harm her? Was she about to be kidnapped? Prachi backed away, terrified, her heartbeat thumping in her ears.
Esha: What in the world! 😱
The figure stepped closer to the window, and Prachi's eyes widened as a helmeted figure loomed outside. She stumbled backward, her voice trembling.
Prachi (scared): "Ka... kaun ho tum(Who... who are you?)"
The figure didn't answer immediately. Instead, they reached up and removed their helmet. Prachi froze, her eyes widening as she recognized him instantly.
Ranbir: "Tum itni dar gayi thi, Prachi ji? Tumhe pata tha ki main hi hoon(You got so scared, Prachi ji? You knew it was me.)"
Esha: Aaj tumhe maar padegi. Mujhe laga ki yah Kunal hai(You will get a beating today. I thought it was Kunal!)😡
Prachi blinked in disbelief, her hands gripping the windowsill.
Prachi (nervously): "Aap yahan... yeh sab kya kar rahe ho(You're here... what are you doing?)"
Ranbir smiled, his face lighting up as he saw her fear turn into confusion. He leaned against the window frame casually, his eyes locked on hers.
Ranbir: "Tumhare liye kuch surprise tha. Main chahta hoon ke tum mere saath chalo, explore karo Delhi. Mere electric bike ke saath. Tumhe kisne roka hai(I had a little surprise for you. I want you to come with me, explore Delhi. My electric bike is waiting outside. Who's stopping you?)"
Prachi's heart raced even faster as she shook her head, still backing away from the window.
Prachi (panicking): "Yeh galat hai, Ranbir ji. Main aise nahi ja sakti. Main bilkul nahi ja sakti(This is wrong, Ranbir. I can't go like this. I just can't go.)"
Ranbir's face softened as he saw how scared and unsure she was. He wanted to reassure her, but he didn't want to make her feel forced. He stepped closer to the window, still keeping the distance.
Ranbir: "Prachi ji, tumhe darne ki zarurat nahi hai. Yeh sirf ek friendly trip hai. Tumhare liye kuch seekhne ka waqt hai(Prachi, you don't need to be scared. This is just a friendly trip. It's time for you to learn something new.)"
At that moment, Prachi heard a voice behind her—Namrata was standing in the doorway of the guest room, her arms crossed but with a playful look in her eyes.
Namrata (grinning): "Arre, kya hua? Kahan bhaag rahi ho tum?(Hey, what's going on? Where are you running off to?)"
Prachi turned to face her, still feeling a bit shaken. Namrata winked at her, sensing the tension.
Namrata: "Prachi, relax. Main sab sambhal loongi. Tum kal tak apne family ke saath time spend kar lo. Tum dono ka time abhi hai, bas thoda relax karo(Prachi, relax. I'll cover up till tomorrow afternoon with the family. You two need this time now, just take it easy.)"
Prachi shot a quick glance at Ranbir, who was still waiting expectantly outside her window. She hesitated, then looked back at Namrata.
Prachi (hesitantly): "Main... main kya karoon, Namrata(What should I do, Namrata?)"
Namrata: "Ja Prachi ja, aur kuch time spend kar le. Tum dono ko jana chahiye. Tum dono kaafi kuch samajh sakte ho. Koi dikkat nahi hai, main sab sambhal loongi. Apna dil samajh ke chalo(Go Prachi, go, and spend some time. You two need to. You can both figure a lot out. No worries, I've got everything covered here. Just follow your heart.)"
Esha: Wah! Mujhe lagta hai ki ab Amrish Puri ki jagah aap ko cast kiya jaana chahiye tha(Wow! I think you should have been cast instead Amrish Puri now!)😎
Prachi looked back at Ranbir, who was still smiling reassuringly. Her heart fluttered, but she was still hesitant.
Prachi (softly): "Ranbir ji(Ranbir ji...)"
Ranbir's smile widened as he leaned in closer, his voice soft yet filled with excitement.
Ranbir: "Bas, tumhe kyun dar lag raha hai? Tumhara man nahi hai kya aise time guzarne ka? Hum bahut kuch dekh sakte hain. Tumhari pasand ke jagah dikhaunga tumhe(Come on, why are you scared? Don't you want to spend time like this? I can show you so many places you'd love.)"
Prachi bit her lip, her gaze shifting between Ranbir and Namrata. Her heart was torn, but something inside her told her to take a chance. She was curious about him, and this moment felt like one she didn't want to let go of.
Prachi (finally nodding): "Theek hai... lekin aap... Ranbir ji, aap mere saath chalenge(Okay... but you... Ranbir ji, will you come with me?)"
Ranbir chuckled softly and nodded.
Ranbir: "Haan, Prachi ji. Tumhe humesha apne saath rakhunga(Yes, Prachi ji. I'll always be with you.)"
The soft hum of the electric bike filled the air as Ranbir revved the engine, waiting for Prachi to climb onto the backseat. Prachi stood at the edge of the window, looking down at the sleek, modern bike below. She was nervous but excited. This was new. This was something she had never imagined herself doing, yet it felt strangely thrilling.
She took a deep breath and swung her leg over the seat, careful not to fall, and sat down. She hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do next. Her heart was racing, and her hands were trembling slightly. Then, instinctively, she reached out and held onto his back.
The touch was soft, yet it felt like an electric shock coursing through her body. Her fingers lightly gripped his jacket, pulling herself closer. For a moment, everything seemed to stop—the sounds of the city, the breeze on her face, the hum of the bike—all faded away as she focused on him.
Ranbir (stammering, completely caught off guard): "Y-y-you... aap... aap... yeh... yeh... hold kar rahi ho mujhe(Y-you... you... you're... you're holding me?)"
Esha: Hayeee! I am going to die! 🤪
His voice was shaky, and for the first time, Ranbir felt completely out of his element. He was always confident, always the one in control, but this moment? This moment was entirely different. Prachi's hand on his back made him feel something he couldn't quite explain. It was as if she had left him speechless.
Prachi, noticing his sudden nervousness, couldn't help but smile. She wasn't expecting to affect him this much. Her fingers gently tightened around the fabric of his jacket, trying to steady herself as the bike started moving.
Prachi (softly, almost teasing): "Kyun, Ranbir ji? Kya yeh itna ajeeb hai(Why, Ranbir ji? Is this so strange?)"
Ranbir cleared his throat, trying to gather himself, but the effect she had on him was undeniable. He was trying so hard not to embarrass himself, but his mind was racing.
Ranbir (nervously): "N-n-nahi... aise nahi... bas... yeh sab... thoda unexpected hai(N-no... it's just... well... this is a little... unexpected.)"
Prachi giggled, the sound of her laughter sending a wave of warmth through his chest. He couldn't help but chuckle nervously with her, his hands gripping the bike's handles a little tighter to steady himself.
As they started riding, the wind blowing through her hair, Prachi couldn't help but feel a sense of freedom. She had always been cautious, always had walls up, but tonight—this was different. With Ranbir by her side, something inside her felt light, almost like she was beginning to trust him, little by little.
Ranbir, on the other hand, was having a hard time keeping his cool. Every time Prachi's hand lightly brushed against his back, every time she adjusted herself on the seat, it sent a jolt through his entire body. He didn't know if he should focus on the road or on her presence behind him. He was so used to being the confident one, the one who always knew what to say, but now... now, it was her who had him tongue-tied.
Ranbir (trying to keep the conversation light): "Toh... Prachi ji, aapko Delhi kaise laga ab tak(So... Prachi ji, how do you like Delhi so far?)"
Prachi smiled softly, enjoying the ride despite the awkwardness between them. She took a deep breath as she answered.
Prachi (gently): "Delhi kaafi alag hai, Ranbir ji. Lekin... acha lag raha hai. Sab kuch naya hai yahan(Delhi is quite different, Ranbir ji. But... I'm liking it. Everything feels new here...)"
Ranbir nodded, trying to focus on the road while keeping his composure.
Ranbir: "Haan, sab kuch naya hai. Par... tumhare saath yeh sab naya... thoda aur khaas lag raha hai(Yes, everything is new. But... with you, this all feels a little more special.)"
His words made Prachi's heart skip a beat. She hadn't expected him to say something so sweet, and it made her cheeks turn pink.
Prachi (with a shy smile): "Aap... aap yeh kyun keh rahe ho(Why are you saying this?)"
Ranbir was taken aback by her question. He'd said it without thinking, but now that it was out there, he wasn't sure how to explain himself.
Ranbir (awkwardly): "K-kuch nahi... bas... yeh sab... thoda... different hai. Tum... tumhare saath sab kuch thoda... aur khaas hai(N-nothing... just... this is all... a little... different. With... with you, everything feels a bit more special.)"
Prachi's heart fluttered as she felt his words settle inside her. She didn't know how to respond to that. Her emotions were in a whirlwind, and it felt like they were both silently admitting things they weren't ready to say just yet.
And in that silence, with Prachi's hand still resting on his back, Ranbir realized something he hadn't been ready to admit before. He didn't want her to let go.
The night air was crisp, and Delhi's streets buzzed with life. Prachi and Ranbir had been riding through the streets for what seemed like hours, exploring the city. Prachi had never imagined that she'd be doing something like this, riding through the busy streets of Delhi, holding onto Ranbir's back, laughing, and chatting like old friends. But it was happening, and she was enjoying every second of it, even if it felt a little out of her comfort zone.
As they parked the bike near a famous street food market, Ranbir turned to Prachi with a playful grin.
Prachi (giggling, with a teasing tone): "Toh, Ranbir ji, batao. Aapko kis jagah rehna zyada pasand hai? Delhi, Sheetgiri, ya London(So, Ranbir ji, tell me. Which place do you like living in the most? Delhi, Sheetgiri, or London?)"
Ranbir paused for a moment, a slight smirk on his face. He thought for a second before answering, deciding to throw in a little playful lie.
Ranbir (grinning): "London toh bahut accha hai. Wahan kaafi achi memories hain meri. Par, Delhi... yeh bhi apni jagah special hai. Aur Sheetgiri toh... ekdum apni hi duniya hai(London is really nice. I have some great memories there. But, Delhi... this place has its own charm. And Sheetgiri... well, that's a whole different world of its own.)"
Prachi raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his answer. She had no idea what to make of his words, but she decided to play along.
Prachi (curiously): "Achha... London mein koi dost ya... girlfriend thi(Oh, so... was there a friend or... a girlfriend in London?)"
Esha: Bold Prachi! 🤣
Ranbir's eyes widened slightly, but he quickly recovered. The thought of telling her the truth—suddenly felt too embarrassing. So, instead, he decided to lie, just a little, to keep things light-hearted.
Ranbir (grinning, lying smoothly): "Haan, ek thi. London mein, ek achi dost thi, jo... baad mein... girlfriend ban gayi thi(Yeah, there was one. In London, a good friend who... eventually became my girlfriend.)"
Prachi, completely unaware of his little fib, smiled with interest.
Prachi (teasing): "Oh, toh Ranbir ji, aapke paas toh purani kahaniyan hain! Par... koi bhi ladki yeh nahi keh sakti ki aapne usse kabhi nahi dekha, bilkul... like London wali(Oh, so Ranbir ji, you have some old stories! But... no girl can ever say you never noticed her, just like that London one!)"
Ranbir chuckled, a little nervously, but he wasn't going to admit the truth yet. He had no intention of letting Prachi find out that he had never had a girlfriend. His focus was on her, and how she seemed to look up to him so easily.
Ranbir (laughing): "Woh ladki kaafi special thi... par abhi ki baat karte hain. Tumhe pata hai, ek baar tumhe Delhi ka asli taste dikhana hai(That girl was really special... but let's talk about now. You know, I have to show you the real taste of Delhi sometime!)"
Prachi, always ready to explore new things, nodded eagerly.
Prachi (smiling wide): "Aur kya hai yeh 'real' taste of Delhi(And what's this 'real' taste of Delhi?)"
Ranbir's eyes sparkled mischievously. He quickly led her through the bustling food market, pointing to the brightly lit stalls where vendors served street food.
Ranbir (excited): "Yeh hai Delhi ki asli jaan—gol gappe! Tumne kabhi khaya hai(This is the heart of Delhi—gol gappe! Have you ever tried it?)"
Prachi's face lit up with curiosity and excitement. She had heard of it before but had never actually tried it.
Prachi (hesitant but excited): "Pani puri? Nahi, maine kabhi nahi khaya. Par abhi zaroor try karna chahti hoon(Pani puri? No, I've never had it. But I really want to try it now!)"
Ranbir grinned as he turned to the vendor and quickly ordered a plate of pani puri. The vendor handed over the crispy puris filled with tangy water, chickpeas, and potatoes, and Ranbir carefully handed them to Prachi.
Ranbir (teasing): "Dheere se khana, yeh thoda teekha ho sakta hai(Eat slowly, it might be a little spicy!)"
Prachi, eager to try something new, grabbed the puri and popped it into her mouth before Ranbir could warn her. The tangy, spicy flavors exploded in her mouth, and her eyes widened in shock.
Prachi (laughing, eyes wide): "Arre! Yeh toh bilkul mirch se bhar gaya hai(Oh! This is completely filled with spice!)"
Ranbir burst out laughing, his heart warming at how genuinely cute Prachi looked. She was so expressive, so carefree. He was having fun with her, something he never expected, especially after their awkward beginning.
Ranbir (laughing): "Told you, it's Delhi style! You can't run away from the spice here(Told you, it's Delhi style! You can't escape the spice here!)"
Prachi, trying to cool her mouth with the cold water, couldn't help but laugh along with him. She had never imagined this would be so much fun, but here she was, laughing over spicy pani puri with Ranbir, feeling more relaxed than ever.
Prachi (giggling, still catching her breath): "Yeh toh aapne mujhe bilkul surprise kar diya, Ranbir ji! Main samajhti thi ki Delhi bas traffic aur shor se bhara hai, lekin yeh toh... kuch aur hi hai(You've totally surprised me, Ranbir ji! I thought Delhi was just about traffic and noise, but this... this is something else!)"
Ranbir couldn't stop grinning. Watching Prachi enjoy herself, seeing her let go of her usual cautious nature, felt like a small victory. For the first time, he was seeing her truly happy, truly present in the moment.
Prachi looked up at him, her face lit with a mixture of amusement and genuine affection. She felt a flutter in her chest, something she hadn't expected. She liked being with him, more than she cared to admit.
Prachi (softly, still smiling): "Yeh toh kaafi acha tha, Ranbir ji. Mujhe lagta hai main Delhi ke aur bhi tastes try karna chahti hoon(This was really nice, Ranbir ji. I think I want to try more of Delhi's tastes.)"
Ranbir's heart skipped a beat. He hadn't realized just how much he was enjoying this moment with her, how much he was starting to care about her. He wanted to keep showing her more of this world, this life... with him.
And for the first time in a long while, he didn't mind how much he was changing just to see her smile.
After a couple of hours of wandering through the streets of Delhi and enjoying the food and sights, Ranbir was still determined to show Prachi more. His eyes sparkled as he turned to her, a mischievous grin on his face.
Ranbir (excited): "Aaj raat ka plan hai—Delhi ka famous water light show! Tumhare liye kuch special hai. Kyunki tum meri future wife ho(Tonight's plan—Delhi's famous water light show! It's something special for you. After all, you're my future wife...)"
Prachi felt a warmth rush to her cheeks as his words lingered in the air. She had gotten used to him teasing her, but there was something different today. His words felt more meaningful, more sincere. She smiled softly, not sure what to say, but just feeling the weight of it all.
As they approached the water light show venue, Prachi was awestruck by the bright lights, the sound of the water splashing, and the magic in the air. She couldn't help but glance around, taking in the vibrant atmosphere.
But then, as they neared the entrance, Ranbir paused to look at something on his phone, and that's when Prachi noticed a girl approaching him.
The girl was dressed in an elegant, modern outfit and was clearly interested in Ranbir. She walked up to him with a confident smile.
Girl (flirtatiously): "Hey Ranbir! Tum yahan? Kafi time baad dekha tumhe(Hey Ranbir! You here? It's been a while since I saw you!)"
Esha: Excuse me...back off! 🙄
Prachi immediately tensed up. Her smile faded, and a pang of jealousy shot through her chest. Her hands clenched into fists, and her eyes narrowed as she watched the girl speak to him.
Prachi (under her breath, muttering): "Yeh kaun hai(Who is this...)"
But before she could even think about stepping away, the girl turned to Ranbir with a flirty smile and continued.
Girl (flirtatiously): "Tumhare saath toh hamesha time guzarna interesting hota hai, Ranbir. Tumhare saath kuch waqt spend karne ka mann tha(Spending time with you is always interesting, Ranbir. I was hoping to spend some time with you.)"
Prachi could feel the anger bubbling up inside her, but it wasn't just that. It was the sudden fear. The fear that this girl might be someone who could steal Ranbir away. She had no idea why, but it felt wrong.
Ranbir smiled politely, but he wasn't flirting back. Prachi could see that. But the girl wasn't giving up.
Girl (teasing): "Toh, yeh tumhari... friend hai? Ya... aur kuch(So, is this your... friend? Or... something more?)"
Prachi's heart raced. She wasn't sure what to do. But the words, the way the girl was speaking, they were making her feel like she wasn't enough. The anxiety and jealousy quickly turned into a fiery determination. She took a step forward, walking right up to the girl and standing in between her and Ranbir.
Prachi (with a fierce tone): "Woh mera future husband hai(He is my future husband.)"
Esha: Sherni! 🦁🔥
The girl raised her eyebrows, clearly surprised by Prachi's bold declaration.
Girl (with a mocking laugh): "Husband? Abhi tak toh yeh sirf commitment ka time hai. Shaadi ho bhi sakti hai, ya nahi. Divorce tak ho sakta hai, samjhi(Husband? So far, this is just about commitment. Marriage may or may not happen. It could end in divorce, you know?)"
Esha: Woah! You are going to get arrested! No maybe a punch to that mouth of yours! 🚔👊
Prachi felt a stab of pain in her chest, but she wasn't going to let this girl walk all over her. She turned to Ranbir, her eyes burning with the intensity of her feelings. There was no way she was going to let anyone, especially some random girl, take what was hers.
Prachi (with a firm, unyielding voice): "Haan, yeh mera future husband hai, aur main yeh baat tumhe ya kisi ko bhi samjhaane nahi aayi hoon. Tum samjho ya nahi, yeh mere liye clear hai(Yes, he is my future husband, and I'm not here to explain that to you or anyone else. Whether you understand it or not, it's clear to me.)"
Esha: 👏👏👏
The girl was taken aback by Prachi's confidence, her expression faltering. She clearly hadn't expected this kind of reaction. For a moment, there was a tense silence, with only the sounds of the music and water show filling the air.
Ranbir stood there, frozen, not knowing what to say. He had been silently watching the exchange between them, surprised by how fiercely Prachi had reacted. But his heart swelled with admiration for her. She wasn't just a shy girl; she was strong and protective when it mattered.
Ranbir (softly, to the girl): "Mujhe lagta hai, tumhe yeh samajh aaya hoga ki yeh meri fiancée hain, aur humein thoda waqt chahiye apne rishte ko aur samajhne ka(I think you understand that she's my fiancée, and we need a little time to understand our relationship better.)"
The girl gave them one last look, clearly realizing that she wasn't getting anywhere, before she turned around and walked away. Ranbir exhaled deeply, but Prachi, her heart still racing, kept her stance, her hands still tightly clenched.
Prachi (muttering, still a little shaken): "Main nahi chahti koi mujhe yeh feel karaye ki main kuch nahi hoon. Mere liye yeh... yeh kisika... mushkil hai samajhna(I don't want anyone to make me feel like I'm nothing. For me, this... this is hard to understand.)"
Ranbir reached out, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder, but he didn't say anything at first. He could tell she was still upset, her heart visibly racing. He knew how important this moment was for her.
Ranbir (quietly): "Pehli baar, tumne jo kuch kaha, woh galat nahi tha. Tum meri fiancée ho. Aur mujhe tumhare har gussa aur har bhavna ka izzat karna hai(For the first time, what you said wasn't wrong. You are my fiancée. And I need to respect every anger and every feeling you have.)"
