Chapter 8 - Interview With A Vampire

"Uh – room 218?" the brunette woman standing on the other end of Marina's door asks as she breathed in the sight of her.

She was wondering if she's in the right place seeing as Rina is clearly human.

"Yeah, you're in the right place" Rina says to the woman whose badge says Antoinette. "He's waiting for you" she says as the woman nods at this as she made her way into Rina's hotel room where Godric waited for his donor.

"Sheriff, this is Antoinette from Elite Bites" Rina says in explanation. "I'll give you two some privacy" she says as she headed to her room so that Godric could feed in peace.

"Come closer, child" Rina hears Godric say to the other woman as she went over to her bed and sank onto it, pulling out her phone and going through her emails.

She sighs heavily when she sees that she has an email from her professor in response to her request for an extension.

Unfortunately the professor can't grant her one so she's going to have to come up with something really quickly.

"Fuck" Rina says as she rose from off her bed as she paced the length of her bedroom in stress and worry.

She'd given all of her information and research to the Fellowship and in doing so now had nothing to present as her writing assignment.

"Ms. Sinclair" she hears Godric's soft knock on her bedroom a few minutes later. "Is everything alright in there?" he asks her.

She goes to answer her door and sees him standing before her, looking less pale with more colour to his cheeks. The sight is a welcome sight to her after how pale he's been since she's known him.

"Everything's fine" she lies, "just dealing with some college stuff" she tries to dismiss, "are you finished already?" she asks him, hoping to divert the topic from herself.

"Were you expecting me to take longer, Ms. Sinclair?"

"Marina or Rina" she interjects in insistence, "we've gone though enough together to warrant calling one another on a first name basis wouldn't you say?" she says with a smile, "and to answer your last question, yes, given how pale you were I had expected you to take much longer" she adds honestly. "I wouldn't have minded waiting until you were fully fed" she adds.

"I am sustained and that's all that matters" Godric replies as Marina nods at this. "If you insist on my calling you by your name then will you do me the same honour?" he asks her.

"Okay, Godric" she says. Godric feels an unfamiliar feeling in his chest at hearing her call him by his name as though they really are friends.

"We are...friends are we not, Marina?" he asks her, making reference to what she said to Nan Flanagan.

"Yes" Rina says with a nod.

"And friends share their worries with their friends, correct?" he asks her.

"Basically, yeah" Rina nods, wondering where he's headed with this.

"Then will you not tell the real reason for why you are stressed?" he asks her. "Because we are friends" he adds as Rina smiles at this, knowing that she's caught in a trap of her own making.

"Okay" she nods, "but you have to promise not to feel bad, okay?" she adds as Godric nodded at this, though he is certain that he will feel bad if something negative had happened to her due to her association with him and his kind. "I asked my lecturer for an extension on my assignment since it's due soon and she said no so I-I kinda have nothing" she concludes with a weak smile.

"Because you gave all your work and information to the American Vampire League?" he asks her as she nods at this. "What exactly are the parameters of your assignment?"

"We had the option of either doing a written piece or conducting an interview and transcribing it" she admits.

"Are there any particulars about whom you may interview?" he asks her as his mind raced, searching for a solution to help her.

"Not really, no" Rina shakes her head.

"So if you were to interview a vampire then that would not be an issue?" Godric asks her as her eyes light up at this as she realizes his implication.

"No" she shakes her head. "But it can't be you" she adds quickly as Godric arches a brow at this, "believe me I'd like nothing more than to interview you and hear about 2 millennia worth of history from you but I don't want whoever reads the piece to connect the pieces and figure out that it's you" she adds.

"Would it not be anonymous?"

"Even so I don't want it to be you" she adds. "Maybe I can ask Bel?" she says.

"I do not think that Isabel would take issue with it" Godric admits, "though I'm sure an older vampire who has lived for much longer would prove a more interesting source of information would they not?"

"Do you have anyone in mind?"

"I do" Godric nods as Marina arched a brow at this, wondering what was going through his mind.

"I would be honoured to conduct an interview with you, Marina Sinclair" Eric says to her after Godric has made his request to him on Marina's behalf when the other vampires have all awoken, including Joe and Isabel.

"You don't have to–"

"Nonsense" Eric says, "when shall we begin?" he asks her.

"Now, if possible?" Rina says, feeling a little nervous now as Eric flashed onto one of the many couches in the living room of Godric's suite.

"Please" he says with a sweeping gesture as he gestured to the couch across from him with his signature smile that warned of possible danger.

"This is so exciting!" Marina says, suddenly feeling excited about having an interview with a thousand year old vampire.

Eric and Godric smile at her palpable excitement as she grabbed her laptop and phone and readied the items she'd need for this interview on the table before her.

"Thank you for doing this, Eric" she says to him, "you can consider your vow to me settled after this" she says to him, practically bouncing from excitement as she opened her laptop.

"Don't be ridiculous, human" Eric says to her, "this isn't even the tip of the iceberg in settling that particular debt and vow" he adds.

"But–"

"The vow I made to you won't be settled by something as trivial as this" Eric informs her, "you can use it to ask me to buy you a chalet in the south side of Paris or a private jet" he says to her with a little wink.

"You're joking, right?" Rina says in wide-eyed shock, "he is joking, right?" she says in panic as she turned to face Godric at this and the older vampire has the good sense to appear amused by all of this.

"No" Godric admits amusedly, "I'm afraid he is not" he adds, knowing his son well enough to know that Eric wasn't at all joking about what he's said as Rina turns to face Eric at this.

"I never kid about anything so serious, little human" Eric says to her, his lips tilting into a faint smirk at this.

"Jesus, you're intense" Rina says with a flinch, "and a little less of the calling me little, Viking" Rina says as father and son chuckle at this as Isabel and Joe make their way into the large living room of Godric's hotel suite as they got started on paperwork for acquiring a new nest.

Marina's interview with Eric had gone amazing.

She already had a thousand and one words scrambling about in her mind as she got to transcribing.

She was back in her hotel room, working on her stuff while Joe was helping Isabel with the things Godric requested of his second and Eric had taken off back toward his area after concluding his interview with Marina and saying his goodbyes to his Maker.

He'd kissed Rina's hand good-bye with the promise that they would meet again in the future as his eyes twinkled with mirth as Joe gave the older vampire an annoyed look for his constant flirting with his sister – much to Eric's amusement.

Julian stood guard outside Rina's room as Godric had talked him to do - much to Rina's chagrin as she felt that it gave off the impression that she was much more important than she really.

The front door to her hotel room opens and she doesn't need to turn to know who it is.

"You really need to learn how to knock" she speaks up.

"And you should learn to lock your door" her brother retorts.

"One of these days you'll walk in on me naked" Rina says to her twin as Joseph makes a gagging sound at this as Rina snorts at this.

Good. That's what he gets for not knocking.

"I'll knock from now on" he says as he approached his sister as she typed away. "How's it coming along?" he asks her.

"It's actually going quite well" Rina replies, "Godric is a lifesaver" she adds.

"That he is" Joe retorts as he thought about the sheriff and his sister.

It doesn't take being a genius to figure out that Godric has a soft spot for Marina that he doesn't have with a lot of other people.

Sure he's not the boy Death anymore but he was still a very terrifying and powerful vampire.

One of the few powerful ones in Northern America if rumours were to be believed.

"So what are you doing here?" Rina asks as she turns to face him as he sinks into the couch across from her, "shouldn't you be helping Bel with something?" she asks him.

"She sent me off" he admits, "told me to keep you company since she and the sheriff have things handled for now" he adds.

"That's sweet of her" Rina says with a smile, more than happy once again that her brother was turned by Isabel and not any other vampire.

"Yeah" Joe replies, "so...you and the sheriff seem close" he says in a casual tone as he looked about his sister's hotel room.

"And?" Rina says just as casually, knowing that her brother wanted to say more.

"Nothing" Joe lies.

"Joe, come on" Rina says with an eyeroll, "he doesn't like me like that" she adds, seeing what her brother wanted to say.

He is her twin after all and she knows him as well as she knows herself.

"Okay" Joseph says, not wanting to push the conversation anymore. "Isabel was telling me that she is going to place a formal request to the sheriff that you live with us in the new nest" he reveals.

"What?!" Rina gawks as she lifted her eyes from her laptop screen to face her brother. "Why?"

"Why not?"

"I'm not a part of your nest for one" Rina says.

"You don't have to be if the sheriff gives his consent" Joe says to her.

"But won't the other vampires be unhappy about that? A human living in their nest as if she's one of their own?" she adds, "especially after what happened with the last nest" she adds.

"None of the other vampires will do anything to touch you" Joe says protectively, "my necklace warns them to steer clear of you and if the sheriff agrees then his decree will solidify the warning that you aren't to be harassed" he adds.

Rina bites her lower lip in concern at this.

"What? What's wrong?" Joe asks his sister in concern.

"I'm grateful, don't get me wrong" Rina says, "but I don't want to be an incon-"

"Don't you dare finish that sentence Marina Zuri Sinclair" Joe warns his sister with a frown. "Let me tell you right now that the sheriff would never be helping you as much if he thought you were an inconvenience" he adds, "you have the luck of being respected by one of the oldest vampires in North America and that's no small thing" he points out.

"You think he respects me?" Rina asks her brother in surprise.

"You are the smartest person I know" Joe praises his sister, "but also the dumbest if you have to even ask that" he adds as Rina throws one of the throw cushions at him as he chuckles at this as he caught it as his sister also laughs along with him as they chatted while Marina wrote.

Marina is great at multi-tasking so talking with her brother and writing her work isn't an issue for her as she has more than enough experience in writing while drowning out large noises in order to focus.

Something she learned when she and Joseph were bounced around in foster homes and orphanages where there were as many as ten other children in the rooms that they shared.

"Sheriff" Joseph greets Godric when he went to go and open the front door of Rina's hotel room. "Is something wrong?" he asks the older vampire.

"No, nothing is wrong Joseph" Godric reassures the younger vampire, "is your sister sleeping?" he asks, even though he can hear from Rina's heartbeat that she isn't.

"Uhm no" Joe says, "please come in" be says as he stood aside as Godric made his way into the hotel room.

"Godric, hey!" Rina greets him with a large smile as she turned away from the television to face him.

"Marina" Godric says with a warm smile directed at her as Joseph looked between both of them in intrigue. "I came to enquire about the status of your transcribing" he lies, coming up with an excuse on the spot.

The truth is that after signing all the paperwork that Isabel handed him he'd grown bored and wanted to see the one person who knew how to provide him with amusement and brighten up what was once a dark, miserable life.

"Oh that's almost done now" Rina says, "I'm going to finish it off tomorrow so Joe and I were just watching some movies" she adds, "you're welcome to join if you aren't too busy" she says as she waved him over.

"I wouldn't want to impose" Godric says, not wanting to interrupt their sibling bonding time.

"We insist, come on" she waves him over with a smile.

"Actually, now that you're here sheriff maybe you might keep my sister company as Isabel needs my assistance with something" Joe lies.

"I would be happy to keep your sister company until you and Isabel have concluded whatever it is that you must discuss, Joseph" Godric says to the younger vampire who inclines his head toward the older vampire in respect at this before flashing off as Godric went to join Rina on the couch at this.

"We were watching The Legend of Dracula" Rina reveals sheepishly as she flushes a little in embarrassment at this, "but we can watch something else if you'd like" she adds as she moved to change the channel.

"No, we can watch whatever you wish" Godric replies. He isn't as much a fan of films as Isabel was so it made no difference to him – not to say that he would ever say this out loud to Marina and risk hurting her feelings.

"Okay then" Rina says with a smile as she resumes playing her movie as she grabbed her bowl of popcorn from the table. "The cheese seasoning doesn't bother you, right?" she asks, "Joe says that it smells dreadful" she explains.

"He's younger therefore the scents still bother him greatly" Godric explains to her, "the older we get, the less the scents and smells bother us" he adds. "But to answer your question, Marina, no, the cheese seasoning does not bother me" he adds as she nods at this with a smile as they watched the film about the fictional vampire named Dracula who was based on the Wallachian (now Romania) prince Vlad III or Vlad Tepes/Vlad The Impaler – whom Godric had actually known.

History had not exaggerated his cruelty and brutality when it came to slaughtering his enemies or any who stood in his way.

He wonders if Marina would be excited to know that he had known the man that the film is based on.

He spares a quick glance in her direction from the corner of his eyes and almost smiles when he sees how engrossed she was in the film.

Marina isn't sure when she'd fallen asleep but she could feel someone lift her and carrying her in their arms before gently depositing her on her warm, comfortable bed.

She pops a sleepy eye open and sees Godric drawing back from her.

"Stay" she finds herself requesting in a whisper as she grabbed his hand, taking him aback at this as he looked at their hands.

His pale and hers practically glowing with life.

His deathly cold and hers warm.

"Don't go yet" Rina murmurs sleepily as Godric nods at this as Rina smiles happily at this small victory before releasing his hand from her grip as Godric watched her chest rise and fall with each breath that she took as she fell right back asleep again.

Godric wonders if she even has any idea of the request that she's made of him, or even how the hand that she'd gripped tightly hand tingles ever so lightly as he covered her appropriately, knowing how easily humans fell sick.

Godric deliberated about whether or not to leave now that Marina is sleeping and has let go on his hand but something inside him stops him from leaving as he's made a promise that he won't leave, so despite his better judgment Godric finds himself flashing onto the bed Marina slept on, resting atop the bedding that she slept under as Godric closes his eyes and prepares to sleep.

Marina snuggles up to him as Godric stiffens momentarily at this as she rested her hand on his chest, directly where his heart is and would be racing madly if he were still human.

Godric relaxes at this as he also fell into a slumber.

The most peaceful he's had in what feels like centuries.
