Chapter 7 - The Vow

Marina pushes open the door leading into her apartment as she and Joe step inside, she steps on a piece of broken glass which further breaks under her feet.

"What the fuck?!" Joe says angrily when he surveils the destruction before him.

"The Fellowship" Rina says in realization.

She sighs at the damage that's been done to her apartment as she kneels to pick up the picture of her parents that had been thrown to the ground.

It was of her parents when they were in their early 20s. Her mother was leaning against her father with a smile directed at the camera but her father had a small smile on his face.

Rina still remembers that he had a small smile that was a rare sight to see and that it wasn't because he wasn't happy but rather that he just hadn't been a big smiler like their mother had been.

This is no doubt in their minds that this is the work of the Fellowship of the Sun. There were all kinds of racist slurs and slurs in general - spray painted all over her walls.

"We have to call the police about this. These people need to pay for what they've done. Just look at this place!" Joe says angrily as he kicks away at some of the glass on the ground.

"I can see, Joseph" Rina retorts simply.

She dusts off the glass on the picture of their parents as she made her way toward her room. Unsurprisingly there was damage done to her stuff in there too but this room had a personal message for her.

You will die bitch was written on her wall.

Marina looks at the writing for a while before a laugh escapes from her lips the longer she stares at it.

The Fellowship of the Sun has been rattled.

Steve Newlin was scared because she knew things about his organisation and she had proof.

"Rina, how can you laugh in a time like this?!" Joe says angrily, "could you please be serious for once in your life!" he snaps at her.

"I am being serious!" she retorts firmly as they glare at each other. "we both know that The Fellowship are the ones that trashed this place so what good do you think going to the cops will do me? You think the cops are going to care about them trashing my place considering the Fellowship bombed Godric's place?!" she snaps at him.

Joseph sighs at this as he rubs the bridge of his nose. He never thought it possible anymore but he feels like he's about to get a headache.

"Fine" he concedes with a sigh, in no mood to argue with his sister. "I need to talk to Isabel about this--"

"She's already stressed enough with her lover being a traitor and now the suicide bomber, Joe. Leave her be" she says.

"No" he says firmly.

He's let her do whatever she's wanted to do in the past because the truth is that he can't stop her from doing anything that she wants when she's set her mind to it but this time he's not going to stand aside.

Not when her life was at risk.

"You're coming with me and that's the end of it" Joe says to her, leaving no room for negotiation in his tone.

Rina crouches in the middle of her bedroom and brushes aside the glass on yet another picture which was of herself with Joe and their parents.

In this particular picture their parents were smiling happily and Joe had been teasing his sister so she had smirked happily at the camera because she been about to punch him.

"Fine" she says, knowing that her brother can be just as stubborn as her when he wants to be. "But look on the bright side – this means that Newlin is afraid" she says with a light laugh despite the destruction surrounding her. Joseph does not look amused by this in the least. "I know things about his cult that he doesn't want the mainstream media to possess" she adds as she turns to face him even in her couched position. "Good thing I had those recordings for you to keep, huh?" she snorts as he scowls at her for taking this so lightly.

"Get the flashdrives and let's go" he says to her.

Despite ransacking her place the Fellowship failed to find her proof in the place where Joe has been hiding it for her: the loose floorboard in the corner of her room.

She kneels and pulls it out and inside the loose floorboard is her small metallic box where she keeps the hard drives with all the proof that she's been acquiring against the Fellowship of The Sun.

Rina had been planning to use it in order to expose the Fellowship of the Sun for herself but now she's going to hand it over to Nan and have her and the AVL use it to take Newlin down.

Joe had done her a solid and had labeled each of the hard drives according to what she had told him they had inside.

The Fellowship has made a huge mistake in attacking her temple because now she's going to burn their church to the ground.

"Come on. Let's get out of of here" she says as Joe takes off with her in a flash.

"Just a second Rina" Joe says to his sister as she was about to hand Nan the flashdrives as everyone looks at him in surprise at this, "my sister risked her life for these flashdrives" he points out to Nan, "so I'll not have her life placed in danger because of them" he says to the older vampire, "you've given the sheriff his job back and for that we are grateful but you must also vow that my sister's name will not be mentioned in any way" he adds firmly as Godric looked a little proud of the young vampire for defending his sister like this.

He doesn't know why Joseph's actions surprise him though as he's always known how protective Joseph was of his sister and how Rina in turn was protective of her twin brother.

"You're kidding me, right?!" Nan says in disbelief, "who the hell do you think you are to talk to me like that?" she asks him angrily.

"I'm her brother" Joe says, meeting Nan eye-to-eye defiantly as she glares at him.

Joe refuses to stand down even though Nan is far older than he is and could kill him in the blink of an eye.

"You have my word that your name will be excluded" Nan says dryly to Rina who nods at this as she hands the woman the drives as Nan throws one last angry glance their way before taking off with her bodyguards.

"I must admit that you have some balls to do what you just did, young vampire" Eric says to the younger vampire, seemingly impressed by his standing up to Nan even when she could have very easily killed him.

"Out of respect for the sheriff I'm going to ignore that comment" Joe says to Eric, who smirks at this.

Joseph Sinclair is doing his maker, line and Godric's nest proud.

Isabel had done a good job with him and that's not something Eric says about a lot of the younger vampires nowadays.

"Marina Sinclair" Eric says to her as she turns to face him in surprise at hearing her full name and surname escape from his lips, "you are in my eternal debt for the great service that you have done for my maker tonight" he adds. "Ask what you wish of me and it shall be yours" he adds, bowing his head toward her.

Marina looks a little taken aback by this as she hadn't really expected it from Eric – or from anyone really.

"Uh - I-I'll hold you up to that vow one day, Viking" she replies awkwardly.

"Until then" Eric says, sharing a look with his maker that promises that there is a conversation between them that must still be had before flashing off as Sookie and Bill said their own goodbyes as they returned to their room.

Isabel and Joe walk out the room as Joe filled her in on what they had found at Rina's apartment when they arrived, leaving Rina and Godric behind as they did.

"So...the sun will rise soon" Rina says when an awkward air settles between them.

"You should not have given away all of your hard work like that, Ms. Sinclair" Godric says, ignoring her statement as he chastises her for her irresponsibility.

"Of course I did. They were going to fire you for something you had little control over, which is completely unfair!" she adds.

"I gave myself to the Fellowship-" he points out.

"Sheriff, we've already gone over this" Rina says to him, "I don't want to have to fight with you over it" she adds as they stood across from one another. "Besides" she says with a grin, "a good journalist never has just one copy of anything" she adds.

"So you still have copies even though you gave Nan Flanagan your originals?" he asks her.

"Exactly, sheriff" she says with a beaming smile directed at him, "Now will that finally get you to relax and stop being so damn worried? Seriously, it'll give you wrinkles" she teases as his lips tilt into the faintest smirk at this.

"What's this I hear about your apartment being destroyed?" Godric speaks up in concern as she sighs at this.

"I didn't want to talk about that with Nan still here" she says, "she's such a bitch, by the way" she adds as Godric's smirk grows at this though he doesn't seem to disagree, "but the Fellowship trashed my apartment and wrote some...stuff on my walls" she adds, "thank goodness they didn't find my flashdrives where I hid them or that would have been a little awkward after I basically had a stand-off with Nan Flanagan" she adds with a small snicker.

"Ms. Sinclair, the Fellowship are dangerous" Godric says, "your blasé attitude toward them is a cause for concern" he adds, feeling worry for the young woman who doesn't know just how much she's positively impacted his life in the short space of time that they've known each other.

Part of his allowing the Fellowship to abduct him was because Godric was bored, tired of living and depressed with life. After 2,000 years he had done everything that could be done and nothing excited him anymore.

Nothing drew his attention.

Until Marina walked into the holding cell that the Fellowship had been keeping him in, smelling strongly of her twin brother's blood though the scent could only be smelled by other vampires and supernaturals like weres.

"I know that they're dangerous" Rina says, "but I figure that's something for tomorrow's Marina to deal with" she says dismissively, "right now all I want is to sleep this night away" she adds as Godric nods in understanding at this.

"You know not the service that you have done for me tonight, Ms. Sinclair" Godric says to her, "just as my progeny vowed, I too vow to repay your for your kindness" he adds.

"That isn't really necessary, sheriff" Rina protests in embarrassment.

"Nevertheless I shall" Godric says to her.

"Uh – thanks" Rina says awkwardly, embarrassed by the fact that he was the vampire sheriff and yet he was bowing to her as if she was as important a figure as him. "So...how's Eric taking the revelation that...y'know" she says, referring to the fact that Godric gave himself up to the Fellowship of the Sun.

"He is upset with me" Godric admits to her, having felt the betrayal and slight anger through their bond.

"Understandable" Rina says, "you guys have been together for a thousand years and the fact that you were ready to just end that must hurt" she adds, "I'm not calling you a terrible maker or anything" she reassures to him, "but you guys are going to have to talk this thing through" she advises as Godric nods at this.

"We will" Godric says as Rina offers him one last smile at this as she prepared to walk off and go get some much needed rest. "Ms. Sinclair" he calls out for her as she turns to face him with an arched brow at this, "I heard Joseph mention that your injuries might take some time to heal" he adds, "if you drank vampire blood they would heal much faster" he adds in offering.

This is no small thing given how sacred Godric holds his blood and that of those in his line but of course Marina does not know this.

"Are you offering me some, sheriff?" she asks with a teasing smile at this. "I'm just joking" she says, "I'll be okay, sheriff. Thanks" she reassures him.

The last thing she wants is to have some sex dreams about the vampire whose blood she drinks.

"Very well" Godric nods. "Have a good sleep, Ms. Sinclair" he adds.

"You too, sheriff" Rina says as she made her way out of his room as Godric watched her leave.

Marina may not know this but she's re-ignited something that he never thought he'd ever get back again: the zest for life.

When Marina awoke later on in the day she went down to get breakfast with the other human guests at the Hotel Camilla but noticed that some man seemed to be following her.

After finishing her breakfast she headed back upstairs, hoping not to alert the man that she'd noticed him as she calmly made her way down the hall before making a sharp turn, when the man comes running past she sticks her foot out and trips him as he falls to the ground with a kind thud and an exclamation of "fuck!" before Rina pulls out her can of pepper spray as he looked up at her in shock and surprise at this.

"Who are you and why are you following me?!" she asks him firmly as she stared the man down.

"Godric sent me" the man says as he holds his hands up so that she doesn't pepper spray him, "my name is Julian" he adds.

He was older than her with brown hair with hints of ginger in the light, a reddish beard and blue eyes.

"Uh huh, and you expect me to just take your word for it, Julian?" she says in disbelief.

"It's the truth" he adds, "he's worried that the Fellowship might seek revenge against you so he sent me to watch over you during the day" he adds as Rina narrows her eyes at this, regarding him in suspicion.

She searches his eyes for any hints of lies and finds none.

"Okay then Julian" she says as she grabs her phone from her back pocket, "since Godric sent you I'm going to take a picture of you and Godric ask about this tonight" she adds as Julian nods at this as she took a picture of him before lowering her pepper spray when he makes no move to attack her.

It doesn't mean that she trusts what he says as Julian stood to his full height at this which was almost as tall as Eric.

Rina is surprised that she actually managed to take this tall, giant man down.

"Damn, you always in fight mode like that?" Julian asks her, seemingly impressed with how she'd been ready to protect herself from him. "Don't know why Godric needs me to protect you when you can basically do it yourself" he says as Rina cracks a small smile at this.

"That's what I'm going to ask him tonight" Rina says, her can of pepper spray still clutched in her hand. "After you" she adds, gesturing for him to climb into the elevator first as Julian chuckles at realizing that she wanted him to walk ahead of her so that she could keep her eyes on him at all times.

She is a smart one.

⚜️Dig Down Deep⚜️

Rina was chewing on an apple as she typed away on her laptop when she hears someone knocking. It probably isn't Joseph considering he never knocks on her door so much as just burst inside.

Rina had given up trying to get him to knock like any normal person would. She rises from her seat and heads to go open her door, looking through the peephole and seeing Godric there.

"Sheriff, good evening" she greets with a warm smile as she opened the door for him. He was dressed in his signature cotton shirt and yoga pants.

"Ms. Sinclair" Godric replies, "may I come in?"

"Sure" Rina says, "how are you up?" she asks, knowing that he was up an hour earlier than the usual time.

"When we get older we wake up earlier than the younger vampires in our day slumber" he says to her.

"Oh" Rina says, having learned something new about them - not to say that she knew much at all as Joe tended to avoid sharing anything with her, "so what can I do for you, sheriff?"

"Julian informs me that you nearly pepper sprayed him today" Godric remarks coolly, a hint of amusement in his voice as Rina snorts at this.

"That's because he was following me" Rina retorts in her defense, "I had to protect myself incase he was with the Fellowship" she adds as Godric nods in understanding at this, "sheriff, I assure you that I do not need a babysitter" she says politely, "I'm quite apt at protecting myself as I have been doing it for a long time now" she adds.

"Julian is not a...babysitter" Godric says, "Isabel and Joseph informed me of the threats against your life that were written on your walls and we came to the conclusion that it would be in your best interest if you had someone to protect you in case the Fellowship made do on those threats" he adds.

Well that certainly explains how when Rina woke up she found her clothes in the wardrobe of her hotel room. Isabel and Joe must have gone to fetch them.

"Joe asked you to be the one to break the news to me, didn't he?" Rina asks through narrowed eyes as Godric nods at this, seeing no need to lie to her and insult her intelligence.

"He said and I quote: 'if I do it she'll just kick my ass" Godric says as Rina throws her head back and laughs heartily at this as Godric looked at the human before him in amusement at the sight.

He finds the sight of her laughing to be quite warming.

"Well then, let it not be said that Joseph Sinclair doesn't have a good sense of self-preservation" Rina says amusedly. "He probably asked you to do it because he knows that I can't fight against your request like I would his" she adds. "How rude of me I've invited you in and yet offered you nothing to drink, would you like for me to call for a donor?"

"I'm fine, thank you" Godric declines.

"Sheriff, let's not repeat this again because frankly we both know who'll win in the end" she says to him.

"Do we?" he asks amusedly.

"I don't know if you've heard but I can very stubborn when I want to be" she says with a laugh, "so what blood type should I ask for?" she adds as she moves to dial for a blood donor.

"AB negative is my preferred type" he replies.

"Then AB negative you shall receive" Rina says as she called up the hotel's front desk and asked for an AB negative donor.
