Chapter 1: The Mind Smiles

*Logan POV*

When I had heard the news that there would be new residents arriving in our City of Mental Personas, I was minorly surprised, though I was careful not to show it. There were rules, after all; I had to retain my calm, unaffected state of being.

I was walking amongst the other Smarts as we made our way to the Cranium headquarters when the lights on the gate changed from red to green. Afterwards, said gate opened, and a group of people walked in.

They were all female, and they were all wearing glasses. A few of them wore dresses, but most of them wore hoodies and sweaters, so I gathered that their Host was not someone obsessed with fanciful clothing.

But what struck me as the most odd was that none of them looked alike.
Usually, personas all looked alike. In the case of my brothers and I, we all looked like our Host, Thomas Sanders.

But these females all had different hair types, eye colors... even their glasses were different.

I was not sure what to say, and I could tell that the other Smart aspects were just as confused as I was.

It was then that the group noticed us, and one of the females stepped forward.
She wore a plain, cream-colored dress, and her glasses had black frames. Her hair was long and black, and was pulled back in a simple bun.

I guessed that she might be the Smart aspect, and I decided to extend a greeting.

However, before I could speak, she said, "Hi, everyone. My name is Kendra. I represent Literature in my Host's mind."

I was a bit surprised by this information, but I managed to say "Salutations, Kendra. Would you and your sisters care for some assistance to your living quarters?"

"That would be nice, thank you," Kendra replied.

Then she smiled.

In that moment, time seemed to stand still. Of course, time did not really stand still; that would be a physical improbability. It just seemed, under the circumstances, that the world had been rendered frozen.

Never, in all of the history of Mental Personas, had there been a Smart that had smiled as wide as Kendra did now.
