Kakashi silently wondered about the house the next morning, hoping to get a clear map of the place. In his opinion, Grimmauld Place was not at all a very safe environment. He had thought that the Castle was bad, given the amount of hidden chambers filled with dangerous creatures and strange magical objects, but this place was even more so. The small confined quarters hid the oddest of mechanisms. In a cupboard in the Kitchen was an old set of knives that were enchanted to charge at the user or any unaware victim. He had narrowly managed to escape without injury, however, the door he had used to avoid them took the brute of the damage. The door as a result swung on its hinges angrily (if that was even possible) and wouldn't let him back in until he had apologized. All in all, the whole place had the Shinobi on high alert.
He had hoped to find someone who could give him a 'proper' mission briefing, but Mad-Eye said that he was to wait for Dumbledore on that score, who would be arriving later on today to deliver said breifing. Slightly disappointed with the news, he decided to head back up to the attic before Harry and Ron woke up. To his amazement and confusion, he found multiple parcels littering the surface of his neatly made bed. Currious, he went through the packages that hadn't been there before he left, discovering that they happened to be his school supplies for the upcoming year of Hogwarts. All that seemed to be missing was a wand, which didn't surprise him. Last year he had learned that the wand chose the Wizard, which didn't make any sense to him. However, nothing that happened in the Wizarding World made sense to him. After organizing the contents into his new school trunk, he grabbed a copy of 'Charms: Year One, How to Jinx your Enemies', and began reading, hoping to catch up on the curriculum.

Harry woke up grogily, the previous evening leaving his mind in a state of clutter and stress. A dementor had attacked him and his cousin, resulting in him having to use the Patronius Charm. He had learned that an organization called The Order of the Phoenix had been recreated to once again defeat Voldemort. He had discovered that Dumbledore had planned to keep him in the dark about all of this and had made Ron and Hermione keep it a secret from him while he was stuck at the Dursleys. His Hearing at the Ministry of Magic was tomorrow and he could potentially be expelled from school, the one place where he felt he had always had a home. And he had found out that Kakashi Hatake was once again hired to look out for him, after all he had said and done. All in all, things were not moving in his favor.
He sat up to see that Ron was still heavily asleep, curled in on his side with a pillow grasped tightly in his hold. He looked over to Kakashi's bed to see that the Shinobi was actually there and not off doing something strange or secretive. Instead, the silver haired teen who was slightly younger than he was, was sitting upright with a book clutched in his hands, reading over it with a bored expression.
"Good morning." Kakashi said without looking up from his book, only moving to turn the page.
"How long have you been up, it's like six a.m.?" Harry asked, wondering if the Shinobi had gotten any sleep.
"Couldn't sleep. I had forgotten how loud Ron's snoring was." Kakashi said, completely aware that the red head was now awake.
"Hey! I do not snore!" Ron stated indifferently, ignoring the knowing looks that both Harry and Kakashi sent him.
"Of course you don't..." Harry added sarcastically, while Kakashi continued reading his book. He had managed to read through all of the Herbology, Hogwarts: A History and most of the Potions curriculum. He had used his Sharingan eye while the two teens were asleep. He wouldn't be able to use it for the other courses, he could already feel his chakra depleting considerably.
"What are you reading Kakashi?" Harry asked.
"Potions." He replied bluntly, but not out of rudeness. He was worried that he wouldn't have enough time to get through all of the curriculum before getting to Hogwarts. He knew he would have the most difficult job with Charms and Transfigurations, because he had only studied theory last year and not practical application. What bugged him the most was the fact that he did not have a wand to practice with. He wondered if he would be able to borrow Harry's or someone's, but was a little hesitant to try. The last time he had used a wand it had burned his hand considerably, he still had the scars covering his wrist and forearm from the experience.
Harry walked over to get a better view of what Kakashi was studying, finding that the teen was examining over complex diagrams and equations. His eyes widened considerably at this discovery, he had only ever seen Hermione attempt to study the theory of master potions, and even she had a difficult time comprehending it.
"Uh Kakashi, you do know that you don't have to learn this unless you are taking Advanced Potions and Arithmacy. And even at Hogwarts that's a rare occation, no one ever learns unless taking private lessons from Snape, because that course isn't actually avaliable." Harry said skeptically.
"I know."
"Then why?"Harry asked.
"I know nothing about the practical application of using magic. And from what I have learned from these books is that wizards use magic for everything, including brewing potions. So, I would at least like to be proficient in theory since I won't be able to figure out the magical aspect for a while." He answered, jotting down notes onto a piece of parchment. Harry stared wide-eyed at Kakashi's notes, they were neatly drawn out and organized to perfection, it was like a piece of art. The only thing was that it was written out in Japanese.
"Wow mate, you take better notes than Hermione." Ron said, also comming over to get a look.
In Kakashi's opinion, it wasn't very neat. If he had drawn everything out with Sharingan than it would have been. However, when your Sensei was a Master Sealer, then you learned to critic your work pretty harshly. Because one tiny mistake when drawing out a seal, even for the simplest of things meant death... or a very large explosion that caused great injury and pain. Take your pick.
They were then interrupted by Mrs. Weasley who opened the door abruptly, announcing that breakfast was ready. Ron instantly jumped up and quickly got dressed, Harry also quickly followed suite. Being at the Dursleys for only a month had caused him to loose a decent amount of weight and muscle mass. Kakashi would have to be sure to mention to Dumbledore that if he really wanted to keep Harry alive, then he should stop making him return to that horrible place. It was physically and emotionally taxing on his clients body.
After supplying himself with a decent amount of kunai, senbon and shuriken, Kakashi made his way downstairs after Harry and Ron. He had ditched wearing the armor, Molly Weasley had insisted that he not wear it in the house, stating that it was highly inappropriate. Which was probably for the best, he would have to get used to not wearing it. This year at Hogwarts he would have to deal with wearing the ridiculous school uniform. Which was highly impracticable and claustrophobic. The billowing robe and tight shirt equipped with his very own neuse a hazard to wear. But he would have to deal with it, this was a mission after all.
"Good morning Kakashi." Hermione greeted shyly. Kakashi wondered why she was acting so differently around him. Perhaps his suspicions of her being convinced by Ron and Harry to hate and fear him turned out to be true after all. Nevertheless, he nodded his head towards her kindly. He didn't want to be on her bad side, she had the wit and intelligence to beat him in an argument, and he didn't want to have to deal with that.
For breakfast, Mrs. Weasley had made hefty amounts of porrage, toast, bacon and eggs; complete with pumpkin juice. Kakashi had forgotten how much he hated English food, it was much to sweet and heavy for his liking. However, he didn't want to be rude, so he grabbed a small portion of toast and bacon.
"Kakashi, how do you plan on growing if your only going to eat such small and insufficient portions!? Seriously, I didn't even see you eat anything last night!" Molly criticized, shaking her head disaprovingly at the sight of his plate. "Your even smaller than Harry, and that's saying something!" She continued. At her words, Fred and George couldn't help but laugh. Last year they had tried so hard to get Kakashi to actually eat, also saying that that was why he wouldn't grow.
Mrs. Weasley scowled when she didn't see him add anything more to his plate. So she walked over beside him and started placing servings of eggs and porrage on his plate while pouring him a glass of juice. She looked at him firmly and smiled when she saw him grudgingly begin to eat. The twins looked at their mother in awe, never had they been able to succeed in forcing Kakashi to eat. Even the golden trio looked surprised by Molly's actions and success.
Kakashi did not like being treated like a child; however, the look that Mrs. Weasley had given him had actually frightened him. Dispite all of his experience with dealing with murderers and traitors and killing people in the sickest of ways. Her stern look had reminded him of Kushina-san, who was the only woman on earth who could intimidate him (except perhaps Tsunade-sama, but she scared everyone).
As the breakfast continued, he could barely even get through the large portion of eggs that she had served him. He had effectively trained his stomach to not expect food for long periods of time, and he was beginning to feel nauseous. He had only taken one bite of the sweet sugary porrage when his stomach protested dangerously, he quickly stood up and ran out of the room. Everyone was so surprised by his sudden action that even Lupin had jumped in his seat.
"Harry, will you go see if he is alright." Mrs. Weasley asked, staring after Kakashi's retreating figure.
Harry didn't feel that Kakashi would need or even want his help, but he followed after him anyway, also scared of the fierce red headed woman. He climbed up the long flight of stairs, hoping to find Kakashi in the attic. However, when he opened the door, all he heard was said Shinobi puking his guts out in the side bathroom.
"Kakashi? Are you alright?" Harry asked tentatively approaching the door, unsure of what to do.
Kakashi continued to painfully puke up his unwanted breakfast. He had gone so long without eating a real meal that his stomach had actually regected the food, unable to handle the sensation. That's what he got for only surviving on soldier pills and chakra infused water with a bit of Misu. But at the same time, that was all that his stomach was able to physically handle. Working in ANBU Black Opps/Foundation didn't make room for a healthy and wise diet. Also the immense amount of training and physical strain that he endured didn't help either.
When he had heard Harry call through the door, he was tempted to yell angrily at the teen to go away. But now that he thought about it, that wouldn't be a smart decision. After dry heaving for a couple more minutes, he rinsed out his mouth and opened the door.
Kakashi looked absolutely horrible in Harry's opinion. The boy was pale and sweaty, his hair was disheveled and his hands were shaking slightly.
"Are you alright? What happened!?" Harry asked immediately.
"Yes. I hate English food." Kakashi answered seperatelty, trying to move past Harry.
"What's really wrong. I know it wasn't the food... exactly." Harry said unsure, grabbing Kakashi's arm to stop him from leaving. Which was probably for the best, Kakashi looked about to topple over.
"I'm just not used to large meals. I'll be alright." Kakashi said more defensively, the dizziness starting to take effect, however he refused to show it.
"Are you not taking care of yourself? You didn't last year either, however, it wasn't this bad." Harry added angrily.
"I said I'm fine." Kakashi said. He was a Shinobi... a tool. He wouldn't lose his cool agian, not while out on a mission and hiding from one of the most powerful ninja in the Elemental Country. He confidently (and stubbornly) moved past Harry and joined the others down stairs. Luckily for him, Molly had cleaned up breakfast with the flick of her wand and had began instructing everyone in the decluterization of Grimmauld Place.
Reluctantly, he had decided to stay with Harry during the long cleaning session, unsure about any and all dangerous oddiments and creatures. He had managed to destroy a good number of magical objects before Harry could get hurt, but no matter how many he burned to a crisp, they just kept appearing. Harry also seemed cautious around him, almost like he was debating whether or not to ask the unanswered question.
Harry had wanted to catch up with Kakashi ever sense he got here, even though he was angry that he was even here. However, he knew at the same time that Kakashi didn't really have a say in what missions or tasks he was assigned. He wanted to know how Minato Sensei was doing in his new position as Hokage, and he wanted to know how Kushina was. He wanted to ask Kakashi how his summer went. But what he really wanted to know was why Kakashi was acting so differently. Sure last year he had been a jerk at times and was emotionally distant, but he seemed... different, or worse somehow. When he had first seen Kakashi, he looked empty, like he had lost himself. He had definitive proof that Kakashi wasn't taking care of himself and wondered why that was. He didn't look unhealthy per say, if anything he looked more muscular and toned (but still short, he thought dryly). The only off thing about him was the obvious lack of sleep. He spoke less and he only gave blunt short answeres when necessary. Harry also noticed that Kakashi seemed cautious of his movements. He walked with a slight limp and he could have sworn that he saw Kakashi wince when either bending over or moving his arm. Something had happened, and he was going to find out what it is, no matter how long it took him.
As the afternoon approached, Mrs. Weasley had Harry and Kakashi working on taking down the dark, moth eaten curtains. Which had proved to be difficult. Apparently Mrs. Black had placed a sticking charm on most of the furniture, including her own frame, so that no one would be able to remove them from the house. This had infuriated both Sirius and Mrs. Weasley. Whenever anyone disrupted or moved the thick curtain covering Mrs. Blacks painting, she would wake up and begin screaming. The only way to get her to shut up was to have Kakashi calm her down and have a short conversation with her (or hex the painting). It seemed that the only person in the entire house that she approved of was Kakashi.
In the house, they had found infestations of Cornish Pixies and Doxies (which are a strange beetle like creature) as well as a many number of other creatures. Where they had to spray them with a paralysis potion and throw them into a bin to be later taken care of. Harry was absolutely exhausted and Kakashi seemed to be annoyed more than anything. Ron and Hermione were faring pretty well, except for when Ron got his hand stuck in a vaccume charm trying to dust the inside of a vase. Hermione on the other hand knew exactly what to do and what to expect, she was proficient in Care of Magical Creatures, so she was very comfortable with dealing with 'Magical Creatures'.
Sirius had told Molly to wait for Mad-Eye to take care of a certain Boggart that was locked away in a desk in the study, however, she didn't heed his warning, certain that she would be able to disarm it herself. However, she did not expect the Boggart to take the form of all her family members. Each one dying right before her eyes, confusing her mind even though they were only just a few yards away. Harry and Kakashi had heard her scream and ran into the study, worried about what had caused her to cry out.
Harry knew that what had shocked her was a Boggart, taking out his wand to disarm it. Kakashi on the other hand, had no clue what was going on, he knew that the sight before him wasn't real. The large obnoxious clan of red heads were alive and well in the living room downstairs, so he guessed that this was some sort of genjustu.
He stepped in front of Mrs. Weasley quickly while unleashing two kunai simultaneously and his single uncovered eye widened slightly as they passed straight through the fake form of Mr. Weasley, hitting the adjoining wall behind him.
Then almost instantly, the image changed.
He didn't know how it was possible, but Obito was standing in front of him. His dark messy hair hanging over his obnoxiously orange and blue goggles, the same pair of goggles that he had kept after his death that were currently in his room. Obito was smiling at him, his wide smile shining as brightly and as innocently as he remembered. Then... blood. The left side of Obito's body just seemed to flatten, his left rib cage and appendages grotesquely callapsing in on themselves. Sharp pieces of bone stuck out at odd angles, the same way it had when he was crushed by the falling debree at Kanabi Bridge. Kakashi then saw his right eye disappear into a bloody bath of nothing, the same eye that he had now. Blood was pouring out of his mouth as the boy attempted to speak, before he coughed and the blood found itself on Kakashi's face. The sensation was odd, it felt like it was really there. But it couldn't have been... Obito had died a year ago ---- right?
Obito soon melted away and revealed the beautiful image of Rin, her skin and pale lips soft and delicut. Kakashi felt his whole frame shaking as he knew what was about to happen next, he could already feel the blood dripping off of his hand. He brought his hand up to his face and found that her blood was really there. The same shade and color as hers from the night that he had killed her. He looked back towards Rin who was standing not but two feet in front of him, her chest now open and gushing out blood. He could feel her heartbeat get weaker and weaker, the pulse he could somehow feel on his hand even though he was not touching her. Her expression turned angry like it did in his dreams, he could feel hot tears run down his cheek on Obito's side. The girl that he had loved now dead, and Kakashi had broken his promise to Obito.
Kakashi fell down onto his knees, unable to stand any longer. The pain in his leg throbbed as he landed on the hard surface. He couldn't breath and his heart felt about to expload. He had seen their deaths multiple times in his dreams, however this seemed so different... so real. He gasped when he saw Minato Sensei and Kushina, smiling down on him, their kind faces seeming unaware of what was about to happen. He wanted to cry out and tell them to move, but found that no sound could escape his lips, just as it had not on the night that they died. He watched as Minato grasped Kushina tightly in his arms as a great big hole pierced through both of their mid-sections. He could hear the resounding cry of their son, Naruto, echo in his ears as he saw that the infant had appeared as well. The body's of Minato and Kushina lay dead beside him as Naruto continued to cry.
Kakashi wanted nothing more than to pick up the infant and comfort him, he needed to hold what was so precious to his Sinsei close to him, and feel the warmth of life. He crawled forward to pick up Naruto, but the baby disappeared in a flash of smoke. He looked around hysterically, trying to find Naruto, but he found the outline of the Nine Tailed Fox instead. It wasn't as large or as massive as its real form, it only being the head; but that was enough to cause Kakashi to loose all sense of his being. He fell forward onto his hands and began heaving. But nothing came up, he had already spilled his guts earlier, not allowing for anything to come up. His ribs protested as he continued to gag, he was becoming uncommonly dizzy.
Moody then appeared behind them all and flicked his wand, causing the cruel image to disappear in an instant. He strode past Harry who was looking very pale and on the verge of collapsing and made his way over towards Kakashi. Harry watched as Moody lifted Kakashi up into his arms, the teen now unconscious, and quickly left the same way that he had came. Molly was still frozen, the flashes of Kakashi's fears now ingrained forever on her mind.
Harry didn't know what to think, never before had he seen such a robust Boggart. No wonder Mad-Eye had insisted that he take care of it. He thought back to what he had seen... it seemed strange that someone who was comfortable with killing people was afraid of death. But that thought soon dissipated in an instant. At first he had thought that the image of Minato Sensei and Kushina-san was just a fear of them dying. If he remembered correctly, Minato Sensei was the Hokage right now. However, the images of the other two people, who seemed as old as Kakashi, if not younger, reminded him of something that Kakashi had said last year.
'You have never been in a war Potter, you don't know what it's like to see thousands of dead rotting corpses. Or to see your best friend be crushed by a boulder, mangling his body.'
The boy in the blue outfit with orange goggles must have been that friend... The same friend who had given Kakashi the Sharingan, which made sense because this boys eye had disappeared. But who was the girl. Kakashi had never mentioned her before. However, the way that Kakashi had reacted to seeing her proved that she was someone important to him.
So if the first two images had been real people's deaths, then that meant that...
Minato and Kushina were ---- dead.
Harry felt a sharp pain in his stomach and he had began to feel light headed. He quickly sat down on the nearest couch, afraid that he would collapse otherwise. Minato was the best teacher... no... the best man, he had ever known. He was so full of kindness and honesty, he was always smiling and he loved his students. He had taken the time to get to know each and every one of his students, paying attention to the tiniest of details. Whenever he had felt alone or scared about the Triwizard Tournament, Minato was always there to help him. He had began to think of Minato as a father figure, he had offered advice that Sirius and Mr. Weasley would not have ever thought to give him.
And Kushina...
Kushina had reminded him of his mother. If he were to want his real mother to be like anyone, it would be Kushina. The tough red headed woman was fierce and gentle, funny yet wise. She offered the perfect balance between pointing out your obvious mistakes in a stern and offensive way, while offering the solution through patients and unconditional love and support.
He felt tears begin to pour over the rims of his eyes as the realization hit. He wondered why Kakashi didn't tell him, he felt angry and hurt about having to find out this way. He also wondered why Dumbledore or any of the others hadn't told him as well. Unless they didn't know...
The way that Mrs. Weasley had reacted clearly proved that she didn't know, so it might be the same for the others. But Dumbledore might, he was the one who had hired Kakashi to guard him again in the first place. Harry hated the feeling of being left in the dark, he deserved to know that Minato was dead, and by extention... Kushina.
In his heart he understood why Kakashi hadn't said anything. Minato Sensei was his surrogate father and teacher. He had taken Kakashi in after his father's suicide. So he understood why Kakashi would have had such a hard time bringing up such a topic. However, Professor Dumbledore should have told him, he might have been able to help Kakashi overcome the emotional strain of his recent tragedy.
Harry slowly stood up from the old couch, making sure that his legs could handle the journey up the stairs. Moody would have taken him upstairs after passing out, so that was where he would go. He needed to see if Kakashi was alright and he needed to know if Minato Sensei and Kushina-san were indeed dead. He also wanted to ask him who the baby was and what that strange fox looking creature was.
Mostly about the fox though, for that was what freaked Kakashi out the most. Or was it that the baby had disappeared... either way, he would find out soon. He mentally wondered if he should tell Ron and Hermione about this, they also had the right to know if their teacher was dead. Deciding that it was for the best, he quickly gathered his two closest friends and relayed to them what had happened not but moments ago, being sure to include every detail.
Hermione instantly cried out, clasping her hands over her mouth at the depressing news. Minato had also been an important figure in her life. He never got tired of her constant curiosity and had answersed everything for her, unless it was on something that would cause a break of trust in his Villiage. He also treated her with great respect and enthusiasm when she participated in class, always encouraging her to never be scared to improve herself and stand out.
Ron was also deeply upset. He hadn't exactly been emotionally close to the enthusiastic blonde teacher, but he had learned much from the man. He had learned to defend himself without magic and had learned the value of teamwork. On occasion, Minato would instruct him on new strategies for playing Wizards Chess. Ever since that lesson, he had never lost a game since.
"How is Kakashi? That must have been really distressing." Hermione asked, worried about Kakashi.
"Moody came in and took him off somewhere after dispelling the Boggart away. I was going to go check the room after I told you guys." Harry answered.
"Then let's go." Ron said impatiently.
The three of them quietly climbed the stairs, just in case Kakashi was still asleep. As they reached the door to the Attic, they noticed that Sirius and Lupin were standing by the door, which happened to be open.
"Sirius, is Kakashi in here?" Harry asked, trying to get a look inside.
"Yes he is, he just woke up." Sirius informed.
"Is he alright?"
"We don't know, neither him nor Moody have said anything. We just saw Alastor carrying him up the stairs and wondered what had happened." Lupin said.
"He had a bad run in with that Boggart that was locked in the desk in your office." Harry said. Sirius stiffened and held an angry expression on his face.
"I told Molly not to mess with it. If it was safe then I would have done it myself, but it wasn't, that's why Moody insisted that he take care of it. That Boggart has been trapped in there since my Grandfathers day. The longer a Boggart is kept from people's fear, the more potent the image. And with Kakashi's background, it's no wonder that he reacted this badly." Sirius stated, fuming. This made Harry even more concerned for Kakashi, he knew that the teen had had a very difficult life.
"Is it alright if we go in there?" Hermione asked desperately. Both Lupin and Sirius shared the same look, moving aside to let the three young wizards pass.
The silver haired teen was sitting upright in bed, his hands resting on his lap. Kakashi looked... empty. His sole gray eye seemed dead. No life, no emotion... just nothing. Moody stood up from his chair and began walking away, Hermione quickly cut him off, her face stating that she needed to know if he was alright.
"He'll be alright Miss. Granger. Rest will get him back to... normal, in no time." Moody said hesitantly, his face kinder than they had ever seen it. Alastor knew the life that Kakashi lived... hell, he lived it himself. He knew that boy was changed because of it, and that he would never be rid of his nightmares, but he was strong... stronger than most Aurors he knew. Kakashi Hatake would be just fine in his opinion.
Pleased with Moody's assessment, Hermione ran past the Auror stopping to stand by Kakashi's bedside, Harry and Ron also followed. Moody had left however, Lupin and Sirius had decided to stay, wanting to know if they would overhear important information.
"Are you alright Kakashi?" Hermione started.
"Hai." Kakashi said, his sole eye unmoving from whatever he was staring at.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked before Harry gave her a stern look.
"No."
"Of course you have to talk about it! I just saw the Boggart take the form of a mutilated Minato Sensei and Kushina! As well as a few other people! If Minato is really dead, then you should have told us from the start, we deserved to know!" Harry said exasperated.
"HARRY!" Hermione and Ron shouted, both upset about their friends completely uncalled for outburst.
"Come on mate, sure we want to know too. But not like that." Ron said deeply. "Besides, I thought we agreed that we would take it slowly."
"Ron's right." Hermione added, concern lacing her tone and features as she glanced over at Kakashi.
"No. If Harry feels that he deserves to know everything based on the sole fact that he is the chosen one, then let him." Kakashi said coldly, finaly looking up at them. Harry felt his gut twist at Kakashi's crude words, feeling ashamed of himself.
"I-I didn't m-mean..." Harry started.
"No that's exactly what you meant. From the moment I got here, you have made it clear that the Order should have asked for your 'permission' to summon me back. Well, that's not how life works. I would have thought that your time at the Dursleys should have taught you that the world does not evolve around you. You might be the one who Voldemort is after, but his actions affect everyone." Kakashi said.
"I-I..." Harry stuttered.
"And no, you did not deserve to know that Minato was dead. He was here last year on a mission same as me. It was his responsibility to kiss up to students and blend in, so that my position as your personal guard was not compromised. He had been in so many deep cover missions that it was easy for him to develop that personality. What you might have thought was genuine kindness was really a fascade of lies, just like me." Kakashi said normaly, easily being able to tell them the lie. Minato had truly loved being a teacher at Hogwarts, but if he could make them believe that Minato hadn't truly cared for them, then it might be easier for them to get over his passing.
Harry and the others looked shocked at his words, obviously offended. But he didn't care, it was necessary. He knew how soft Wizards hearts were, so he was just trying to protect them from the pain he was already suffering through.
"No, it couldn't have been a lie!" Harry said upset.
"Minato Sensei and I were hired to babysit you for a year. A year in which we could have been aiding in the protection of our own Villiage, who was currently fighting in a war. However, the Hokage owed a favor to Dumbledore, so we were sent as a result. Minato had to be separated away from Kushina for a long period of time, while being forced to teach untalented schools children who shied away from everything. He and I did not like the mission one single bit, but we are Shinobi. It is not in our place to ask questions or disobey a direct order. That is our law." He finished coldly, sitting up in bed to stand up. Harry, Ron and Hermione watched as he left the room, like nothing had ever happened.
Hermione was speechless, Kakashi had truly changed. She also couldn't believe that Minato would have actually tricked them into believing that he cared. It all seemed like a lie. She hoped that it was all just a lie. On the last day he was at Hogwarts, he had given her the necklace out of friendship. It seemed an disadvantage to have them be enemies, perhaps he was still upset over Minato's death. Never before had Kakahsi been so awfully cruel, maybe he was protecting them from the truth. Kakashi looked emotionally tied up when he was telling them about Minato's 'true feelings', so maybe it was all just a lie.
Ron didn't to know what to think, it was like Kakashi to be mean and act like a jerk while really having their best interests at heart. But at the same time, he had sensed no hint of a lie from Kakashi's words. But if he were a dangerous Shinobi with awesome powers and abilities, he would also hate being in a place where he felt his abilities were being overlooked and taken advantage of. So maybe that was how Kakashi and Minato really felt... It made perfect sense in his mind.
Harry on the other hand was about to burst with rage. He had always known deep down that Kakashi was an individual that was incapable of changing. He had hoped to change the hard stone cold Shinobi last year, but had only gotten so far. But after leaving Hogwarts, Kakashi had gone back to the life that he was used to. He worked as an assassin, hunter, mercenary, soldier and tool. And it seemed that Kakashi was perfectly comfortable with that. The thought absolutely disgusted him. He was no better than Voldemort. So if Kakashi Hatake was only going to care about the mission and not his own person, then he would let him. He didn't care what Kakashi did anymore, as long as it didn't harm the lives of his friends.

Kakashi summoned Pakun right after leaving the room, he needed to cool off some built up energy but he needed someone to keep an eye on things.
"Yo, Kakashi." Pakun greated cheerfully.
"Pakun, I need you to keep an eye on Harry while I'm away for a bit." Kakashi ordered the small pug.
"Why are you watching that brat again? I thought that the Hokage had banned you from leaving the Villiage? On behalf of you being hunted by one of the most powerful Shinobi in the Elemental Nations." Pakun asked confused. Kakashi had forgotten to update Pakun on the recent events, now mentally scolding himself for not doing so.
"Hokage-sama thought that I would be safer away from the Villiage. Orichamaru will never be able to find me here. Sandaime just made it so that I am completing a mission at the same time. Two birds with one stone I guess." Kakashi said casually, however, Pakun had clearly heard the annoyance in his masters tone. He also noticed that Kakashi looked a little shaken up as well. No one else but him would notice, but Kakashi looked on the brink of tears.
"What's wrong? You seem upset about something." Pakun inquired. Kakashi physically sighed, he knew that it would be impossible for him to keep it away from Pakun. His pug was the last person left on Earth (besides Gai) who could tell when something was wrong.
"I don't know what it was, but a creature here was able to take the physical form of Obito, Rin, Minato and Kushina, as well as Naruto and the Kyubii." Kakashi said, shaking slightly. "I saw them die... again. It seemed so real." He confessed, visibly frightened. "I had to lie to the others about it of course, but they wouldn't be able to handle the truth." He finished.
"Naruto?" Pakun asked confused.
"Hai. It was like this thing was showing what I feared most..." Kakashi tried clarifying.
"Which is?" Pakun asked clearly not knowing.
"I don't know... guilt!? It was my fault that Obito died. It was my fault that Minato and Kushina died whilst making Naruto an orphan. I was the one that killed... no, murdered Rin! It was all my fault." Kakashi said hurt.
"Then why did it show the Nine Tails? You have no guilt concerning the Tailed Beast." Pakun said, trying to make sense of the situation.
"Because the Kyubii is a physical fear, not an emotional fear." Kakashi bravely admited, which looked physically painful for the teen.
"Do you want to feel my paw?" Pakun asked seriously, changing the subject, gesturing his paw out to Kakashi. The silver haired teen reached out his hand and grabbed the paw, instantly feeling better. He was glad that Pakun had not inquired more on the subject, happy that he had the instincts to know when to stop.
Pakun was now really concerned for Kakashi. Only twice had he ever taken his offer to feel his paws, needing comfort and support. Seeing Obito and the others again had clearly disturbed and frightened Kakashi. He would now have to work extra hard to help Kakashi get into high spirits (well... higher spirits).
"Alright, I'll watch the Potter brat while you get some fresh air. Be sure to be back in two hours tops, or else I will come get you myself. We do not know if Orichamaru can find you while here in this house. It will not be safe for you until you are at Hogwarts, so keep that in mind." Pakun advised. Kakashi nodded his head in agreement, silently creeping out of the house through the window, leaving Pakun alone with the group of obnoxious Wizards.

Hermione stood shocked at what she had overheard. She had left to follow Kakashi to confront him about what he had said, but stopped and hid behind the stairs when she saw that he had summoned his pug. And because she was wearing the charmed necklace that Kakashi had given her, she had been able to understand their entire conversation.
Kakashi was here hiding from someone by the name of Orichamaru, a very powerful Shinobi. He was here for his own safety. If he wasn't, then he would be trapped in his Villiage under constant surveillance, unable to leave for fear of being captured... or worse. Kakashi's cover was that he was on a mission to watch Harry, even though it sounded like he was here to be protected by Dumbledore.
She had also learned that the baby that Harry had described was named Naruto, but they didn't mention who he was exactly. Also, the fox demon that had caused Kakashi to pass out, was called a Kyubii, otherwise known as the Nine Tails or Tailed Beast. When she got to Hogwarts, she would research all details under these given names and hope to discover what it is.
But what she had taken from their conversation the most, was that Kakashi had lied earlier. Minato had cared for them and even though Kakashi didn't verbally say that he cared for them, he still did.
