Chapter 4: Explaination

I was walking in front of Raven, Aspen, and Lucy on the sidewalk of the street leading to my house. Nervous sweat was all over me as I lead them, and Raei and Aldridge, to my mother.

I remembered what had happened earlier. Aldridge had magically made everyone fall asleep, except for Reai, Raven, Lucy, Aspen, and I. He said when they wake up, the last thing they will remember is walking to their 8th period class.

Then, we walked through the halls where we came across a few of the teachers that, for some odd reason, were not teaching. Aldridge had to deal with them by doing the thing he did to the class back at the cafeteria. It only took about a few seconds.

I could hear Reai and Aldridge talking in hushed whispers behind the trio behind me. I was pretty sure that they thought I couldn't hear them talking, from their conversation. "What element is she? We've never come across anything like her before..." Reai murmured quietly to her partner.

I could sense Aldridge's shrug as he whispered back, "I really don't know... The way her mind wall is, it's not normal."

   Mind wall?

'Yeah, that's the thing that keeps people like Aldridge, mind controllers, out of our mind.' Frost answered my question, even though it wasn't directly directed at her. 'Listen.'

"What to you mean, not normal?" Reai sounded weird, I could tell she was feeling a strong emotion, but I couldn't really tell what it was. I thought it might be... loss, or sadness.

"You know how mind walls are always brick or stone, or something solid, right?"

   "Yup."

"Well, when I was trying to mind control her, to see if she was the rare element, I discovered her mind wall is different," Aldridge took a deep breath before he continued with his little story quietly. "Her's is made of feathers and fur. And it's unbreakable."

'All me, all me.' Frost sounded very proud.

Reai stopped on her tracks. I turned around and glanced at her, pretending to be confused. "Oh, nothing," Aldridge rushed quickly. "Nothing at all."

Raei glared at him, "No, it's not nothing. Tell her."

"I can't! It hasn't been run through with the council, or anyone!" Aldridge looked mad at the way that Raei was talking. "I can't tell her, its not allowed!"

"You will tell her, or I will!"

   "No, I won't!"

   "Yes, you will!"

I rolled my eyes at their silly behaviour. 'Why don't you just tell them that you heard?' Frost suggested.

But then they'll know about my senses, if they don't already know, and you said we don't want that.

'I said don't tell them about me, not about your senses. Plus, I think they're gonna kill each other if ya don't, so...'

   Fine.

"Hey, guys!" I shouted. "Break it up! I know what you said, so you don't need to kill yourselves over it! Alright?"

They both stopped threatening each other and they both stared at me, hard. "How?" Raei asked a simple, one worded question, but luckily, Frost came to the rescue.

   'Hey, look! Our house!'

I repeated those words almost exactly, "Hey, look, ou- my house!" I dashed across the remaining small chunk of the sidewalk to my house, and then stopped nervously at the gate. I wondered what Mom would think of all this.

'She'd probably get angry at you, then get all mushy with you, then get angry at Raei and Aldridge, then get curious about Raven, Lucy, and Aspen cause she didn't notice them, then-'

I cut Frost off with my thoughts. Are you fore-seeing the future, or are you looking at her personality to judge this?

Frost snorted. 'No, silly little Mossy, I can't foresee the future, I am a snow leopard.' I could easily picture her with her head high and nose up, not facing me in a fake royalty manner.

Did you just call me silly little Mossy?!

   'Yup!'

I sighed, this wasn't getting anywhere. Plus, I probably looked stupid, just standing there, zoned out.

'Yup!' Came Frost's voice, almost exactly the same as the last time she said that, in a happy, cheerful, little kid tone. It annoyed me so much....

This is going to be a long, long, night.

   'Yup!'

   Frost!

I sighed, the more I got to know Frost, the more annoying she got. Hopefully she'll still be useful when we're explaining this to Mom.

'Of course I will,' Frost's voice got soft and gentle. 'I'll always be with you.'

   Always?

   'Yes, always.'

I took a deep breath in, and gestured for my friends, and the two partners, to follow me into my house. I planned on explaining everything to everyone, including Frost. Then I'd ask about what Raei and Aldridge knew about me.

They had all crossed the street, and we were all now walking up the path toward my front door. I got my key to the house out and unlocked the door, stepping in, taking off my shoes and dumping my bag and notebooks unceremoniously on the floor near the door.

"Mom?" I called into the halls.

"Coming!" She yelled from the other side of the house. It wasn't a very big house, but big enough to support the two people living in it, me and my mom.

"Alright! I have some things to talk to you about!" I replied as she worked her way across the hallways. "And I have company!"

Mom walked out of a little door on out left, leading upstairs, where her bedroom is. "Oh," she said, a little shocked when she saw how much company I had. And that almost half of it was  adults.

"Mom, this is Raei and Aldridge," I introduced, gesture at each person as I said their name. "And this is Raven, Lucy, and Aspen. Aspen's a advanced earth, Raven and Lucy haven't gotten their elements, and Raei and Aldridge..." I stopped, unable to think of an idea of how I introduce those two.

I could see the curious gleam in Mom's eyes, the amused ones in the two other adults, and the curious ones of Raven, Lucy, and Aspen. I figured the curious looks from my three kid friends were because they didn't actually know what Raei and Aldridge were. I'm not sure I was completely either.

I settled for a stumbling, stuttering line. "They're... well... rare elements," I blurted.

Mom's eyebrows's lifted in shock. "What are rares doing with my daughter?" She muttered quietly to herself.

"We'll explain if you'll let us, Mrs. Moss," Raei said, her short figure standing tall under the scrutinizing gaze of my mom.

"Call me Anna," she replied. "And please do explain."

"Alright, this might take awhile, mind if we sit down?"

'I bet she's gonna ofter everyone tea, or water, or coffee, or something.'

I chuckled out loud, my mistake, because Mom looked towards me in a questioning way, most likely wondering why I'm laughing at something, and what that something is. I shook my head, making her shrug and turn back around to face the guests.

Mom gestured to a mostly open wall, leading to the living room where we watch TV. After we got settled in, I started explaining the whole situation, "So I walked up to the school, Lucy greeted me, we went to find our schedules - we have a few classes together - and then in our air elemental history class, we had to sit next to Raven and we became friends. Just before lunch, I ran into Aspen, who I didn't know the name of, so I called him 'earth boy' in my mind. Then, at lunch, I started hearing things louder. Then smelling things louder, then I ran, it was so confusing and-"

"Great!" Mom exclaimed happily, and loudly, interrupting me. "You're advanced earth!"

I shook my head, "No, I'm not. You didn't let me finish, mom."

"Oh, alright," Mom sagged. Then muttered to herself very quietly, only I could hear, "What are you then?"

"I'm not sure what I am, mom," I replied truthfully. I ignored the shocked and confused expressions that were going around the little circle of people, as I continued, "I ran into a hallway, and stopped. I could hear Raven and Lucy walking around the hallways, calling my name."

"Yeah, she was so fast, it took a long time to find her!" Raven stopped me, adding a bit to my story. Lucy nodded along with her.

"Oh, I didn't realize how far away I was from the cafeteria," I apologized. "Anyway, when they found me, I ran outside of the school, then I passed out."

A look of concern and worry past over my mom's face, but quickly went away, "But... you're fine, right?"

"Oh, yes," I reassured her. "No damage done."

Lucy took over the story then, "When me and Raven found Moss in the hallway, we saw something... I don't know, abnormal? Maybe? I'm not sure if it was normal or not, her being at that time a possible rare element."

"You're a possible rare?" Mom asked me, her eyes wide from all the information getting given to her.

"Yes," I didn't tell her I was a rare element, that there wasn't any possibility involved. My gaze shifted back to Lucy, "What did you see?"

She and Raven exchanged nervous glances, and then Lucy told me what they saw, "You had cat ears. And a cat face."

(A/N: I really wanted to end it with: then Lucy told me what they saw. But, I didn't... I'll admit though, I considered it. I figured the chapter wasn't long enough. You guys are lucky.)

Everyone just stared at Lucy. Aldridge looked the most startled out of everyone in the room besides me, probably because of my mind wall being made partly out of fur. But what did feathers mean? I was surprised my mom wasn't freaking out, she just looked shocked. Lucy started wriggling with nervousness, under the gazes of all the eyes in the room's except mine and Raven's.

I stared at the wall, while trying to contact Frost. Frost? You there?

'Yes, I'm here.' Frost sighed after a moment or two of silence in my mind.

Do you have any idea on what happened?

'Maybe...' She replied, her calmness evaporating quickly.

What is it, then? I questioned, my calmness going away as fast as hers, maybe even faster.

To my disappointment, Frost didn't answer me. Instead, I said out loud, "Exactly what kind of cat?"

Raven stuttered, "Wha- What do you mean?" Wow, for all the time I've known her, I'll admit, it's not long, she's never stuttered, and always been confident and strong. Not now.

"I mean, like, snow leopard?" I said, then I realized my mistake at only saying the one, probably one of the most uncommon big cats, so I quickly fixed it by quickly hurrying on. "O- Or tiger, leopard, cheetah, lion?"

It was my turn to be stared at weirdly. "Uh, I think it was snow leopard," Lucy chimed in. "Keywords: I think."

I chuckled, then murmured to myself, "That makes sense."

Unfortunately, I didn't appear to say it quietly enough. "What do you mean, that makes sense?" Aldridge asked, still quite shocked from the cat thing.

"Oh, uh, nothing," I rushed very unconvincing.

"Uh huh," Raei said, nodding her head. "Now tell us. We all deserve to know."

I froze. What do I do?

I didn't aim that question at Frost, but she replied nonetheless. 'Tell them about me.' She sighed. 'They were going to figure it out eventually.'

   Ok, how?

'Want me to tell them?' Frost suggested.

   Ok.

"This is going to sound weird," Frost's growly voice came out of my mouth, startling everyone at the strange sound.

Aspen looked at me in the eye, then mouthed 'Frost' slowly, tilting his head as if asking a question. I nodded, and I could hear Aspen whisper to Raven and Lucy, "Frost."

Frost continued, "My name is Frost."

(A/N: Again, really tempted to stop here.)

"Moss?" Mom said shakily. "That's Moss, my daughter. Not Frost."

Give me my voice for a sec. I requested. You can have it back to explain things.

I felt back in control of my voice, so I explained it to everyone, "Now it's me, Moss. Frost can take over my voice, which is why it goes all growly."

I saw understanding flash through Raei and Aldridge's eyes. Now they know that most of the times that I 'growled' at them, it was because Frost was at least partly in control. "When did... Frost... appear?" Raei asked me curiously.

"Earlier today, when I woke up in the infirmary from passing out."

"Why did you pass out?" Aspen questioned. When the others shot looks at him, he said, "What? I'm new to some of this too!"

I laughed, then Frost took over my voice, "It was probably because of all the increased senses. We have better sight, smell, hearing, and reflexes than even advanced earth elements."

Everyone nodded slowly, Raei, Aldridge, and my mom were still recovering from the shock of Frost, when finally, Mom asked, "So... what are you?"

So, this is chapter four. I want see if anyone is going to answer these questions, though it's one hundred percent fine if you don't, of course.

Updates have been going semi fast, at least the four updates that have happened so far, but I'm afraid to say that updates will be getting probably pretty slow when school starts for me, which is tomorrow... D: Wish me luck!

And, if you were wondering, yes, Frost speaks as if her and Moss are one. Moss does not. Yet. She might in the future.

What do you think Frost is like?

What element do you think Moss/Frost is? I've not listed any of the rare elements, besides Aldridge's mind control, so it could be anything. Guess away!

Excuse any mistakes in grammar, or any other mistakes you find. I'll get around to fixing it up sooner or later.

Also, a little guide about the way people speak for those who are wondering:

"Quotations for people speaking out loud and no italics or bold."

'For Frost speaking, or possibly someone in the future speaking in her mind, italics with single quotations.'

Just italics for her thinking, or usually its speaking in her mind to her 'companions', AKA, her dragon (in the future) and Frost.

'For her future dragon speaking in her mind, its bold and italics with the single quotations. Yes, she gets a dragon...'

Word Count (with A/N this time): 2436
