~New Neighbors~
Hola, I am Sky.
I am a 'pro' dirt biker who just so happens to have a motocross tournament coming up next week.
My mother told me we're getting new neighbors.
The Yutes?
Weird. I've never had new neighbors. We were really surprised to hear that the old couple, the Sholds, were moving to Ohio. They've lived here for who knows how long.
Mom said they're coming today and that we're gonna greet them. She heard they have a son my age.
I wonder if we'll become friends, or maybe he rides as well?
I sat on my bed, scrolling through social media sites.
I heard a knock on my door.
"Yeah? Who's it?"
I heard my mother's voice, "Neighbors are here, Sweets!"
I hopped off my bed and gathered my little dirt bike figurines, carefully setting them on my shelf above my head.
I opened the door and walked out to the front.
My mother led me to the house. I always loved that house. It smelled of old furniture and cookies. Mrs. and Mr. Shold we're like Grandparents to me. Always baking cookies and her daughter, Alvina, would usually come over to my house and we'd go outside on a 'Boy Hunt'.
Two adults walked up to my mother and greeted her. I'm guessing they're the parents of the boy Mom told me about.
"And who's this?" The Mom asked, nodding towards me.
"This is Sky. She's my 14 year old daughter. She has an obsession over dirt bikes and motocross." My mom laughed.
I felt my ears going red and soon my cheeks.
"Mom! You don't need to tell everyone!" I was soon glowing red. The Mother smiled.
"Oh, really? My son, Dylan, loves motocross. In fact, he has a tournament coming up next week!"
I burst up, "Is it on Saturday? What's his number? What type of bike?"
Mom squeezed my shoulder, "Not to many questions, Hun,".
I nodded and looked past Mrs. Yute. There was a boy running toward her.
That must be Dylan!
He had curly hair and glasses. He wore skater clothes, though.
"Mum, can you come here?" He tugged at her sleeve.
Mrs. Yute looked at him.
"Dylan! I don't think you've met Sky yet! She loves motocross too,".
Dylan glared at me.
"Hi,"
I blinked. That's it? Hi?
"Hello, Dylan. How are you?" I tried to sound casual.
He looked at me like I was an alien or something.
"I'm doing well, how are you?" He asked in the same tone as me.
"I am very fine. I found out you have a tournament next week. A moto one?" I smiled.
"I do. How did you know?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Lucky guess?" I laughed but stopped as his eyes locked in on mine. Emerald green with a soft touch of bluish brown.
"Lemme see the bike?" He asked, walking on without me.
"If ya show me yours after," We walked on to the garage.
My bike was on the stand. It looked shiny as ever.
"Nice! 2016 Kawasaki KLX 140L? Just a lucky guess,"
I nodded and chuckled as he quoted some of my words from earlier.
"Yeah, kinda small though. But, wheelies are still my jam!" I threw my hands into the air.
He smirked and went for the bike. I grabbed his arm before he made it, causing his glasses to slip off his face. I went for them, landing on my face but catching the glasses in my hands. I just laid there.
"Uh, you okay?" Dylan asked, helping me up.
I wiped the dirt from my clothing and gave the glasses back.
"Fine, thanks," I smiled at him and ran out to Mom. She was heading my way so I stopped abruptly.
"Hi Mom!" I said, still smiling. Dylan walked by and waved. I waved back and mouth the words "See ya".
Mom glanced at Dylan.
"So, you two have a lot in common?" I dodged her question and thought to myself, I never saw his bike! I shook away the thought and went inside.
"Come on Mother, stay a while."
