Chapter 38
═════
Everything was different today. The weather, the people, the atmosphere, and myself— it wouldn't be surprising to anyone that I'm nervous as hell. Today can determine whether if I should be sent to jail, or not.
But a good conscience is like a soft pillow. If I hadn't done anything, I shouldn't worry.
Naomi, Tyler, Veronica, Logan and my parents, Tiffany, and maybe Diana would be here. Everyone and everything in this mess will make an appearance.
Thompson wouldn't be here; he was hospitalized just yesterday.
Logan's already-sweating palm pressed tightly yet nervously against the steering wheel as he cussed under his breath at everyone in his way.
Mom held my hand; squeezing it whenever she recalled why were on this dreadful trip to the court.
Dad didn't come, he wasn't involved one bit. His failed attempts of supporting me with his hugs never worked; not for me at least.
The weak lights illuminated my nervous face as I walked down the hallways to the court room. I didn't spot anyone familiar until I made it at the door.
Naomi's blue curls were wiggling on her weak shoulders as Veronica accompanied her to the seat. She gently sits down before Veronica does the same.
Veronicas eyes sparkle when she sees me and she immediately smiles, the same smile I lacked at all these months.
"Alissa!" Veronica exclaimed as she nudges Naomi in the shoulders. She impatiently looks around until she is stumped when she also sees me.
"Hey" she brushes her shoulders nervously.
"Are you okay?" I ask, referring to the drugs. She nod.
"Your nervous too" I change the subject.
"I've been waiting for this moment for my whole life. Nothing would be better than getting justice for mom and dad" she states. Veronica blinks rapidly in an attempt to prevent her emotional self from crying.
"The court will begin in about ten minutes" she adds.
I nod as my gaze moves to Tyler discussing something with another officer. His face was in a slight frown in concentration as he spoke. I wonder where others were.
Logan and mom sat in front of the three of us while mom kept wiggling her purse like a madman.
"I'm sorry" I suddenly announce to Naomi. She opens her mouth to speak but then closes it.
"I thought you were planning to trick me so I'd be your informant. But now I know your truly Thompson's granddaughter, everything you did was for a reason. Even helping me was to get justice for your parents" I bite down my lip, "And you were drugged because of me" I silently whimper.
"Alissa, I didn't plainly do it for my parents I-" as soon as she tries to comfort me by my shoulders the court door darts open.
"The court begins now" a tall man turns heads to him as he announces.
Naomi supportingly smiles at me as we all walk inside. The room was small; small seats covered the ground as we each took a place to sit.
In the court; Cassandra, Bella, Bennett and Tiffany with Diana were already here before us. Bella's face was crimson in tears the more he looked at his living brother. I was thankful they didn't notice me. I don't have any patience for there new accusations.
I sit beside Naomi while Veronica sat behind us. Everyone that was a part of this was here. I glance over the other row of seats to see a familiar man.
How the hell is Travis alive.
I shake my head. If Bennett is alive, he should be too.
"The accused teenager of this false murder is Alissa Evans?" The court judge blocks my flooding thoughts, "Is she here?" He asks.
"Yes" I awkwardly stand up, "Yes, your honor" Naomi silently corrects me.
"Is Bennett Blake here too?" The judge continues.
Bennett stood up. They had ruined him. His eyes were covered in eye bags as his hair was messed up. The color form his skin was drained to the point where he's pale.
The judge continues to question everyone. Both me and Naomi were absent. I didn't know what is currently going through her head but I know for sure that she won't stay silent the whole torturing period of time here.
Back then, I didn't know Tyler much and just met Naomi while I was a wreck. Who would even guess these two were cousins that both lost there parents.
A tables obnoxious creak disturbs my thoughts as Diana nervously stands up. Her face shimmered with sweat as she collected herself to speak.
"I...I need to go to the restroom" she stutters.
The judge hesitantly nods as she walks past us with her heels clicking on the hard tiles. She balled her fists beside her waist.
Something was between her hands.
It was gold-colored, like the color of a perfume. Only it was poured into a slick-thin container and a weak lid.
