Chapter 17
"I'll start with Lee girl" he opens the packet. "She's in some shitty 'X' group that burns its mark on the nape of there members" he continues.
"Wait a go, loser. I already knew this" Naomi rolls her eyes.
"I saw her around late December with some guy" he frowns.
"She was kissing some black haired dude" he states. "How did he look like?" Naomi asks. "I didn't look, they were so deep in there kiss that he closed his eyes" he makes a disgusted face.
Weren't we on a date at late December? Could it be, when I was writing he could've left off to that Tiffany?
"That's all I know about her. I'll just start with Thompson" he smokes marijuana.
"He once had a 'X' mark on his nape too. He comes outside staring at the sea like a owl, and whenever someone gets near him he just yells some shit at them" he adds.
"Why do you think?" I ask him. He blinks slowly for a few moments before answering, "ain't nobody know what's up with him, tomboy" he purses his lips.
"Some say he thinks humans as a bad luck omen. Some say he was cursed by the 'X' group, the other rumors are just as meaningless as these" he shrugs. "Thompson also has written two volumes of books about everything happenin' around here" he adds.
"The first book was written ever since that detective died ages ago"
"Why?" I ask him, I know he doesn't like me and I won't be meeting him again for sure, just have to savor my chances.
"Because he was his father" he states. My heart dropped.
Thompson lost his son. And he's been writing about it ever since then? How could people be so ignoring to not even sympathize with him.
"He used to be less creepy when his son was alive. Until he got murdered. And he somehow managed to have a room at some mansion. After the 17th May incident His grandkids changed there last names so they wouldn't be associated with him anymore" he smokes again.
Everything seemed bitter. Even the marijuana he smoked got intense bitter when reality once again shattered. Thompson mentioned he'd be free on 17 May, could he meant committing suicide because of his son? Why did everyone hate Thompson. Not even he could be hopeful to his grandkids.
"You'll need a lot of trying to grip that goddamned book of his"
"What happened on 17th May?" I demand him to answer.
"A while before that day, some guy got murdered and detective Thompson was assigned to get to the bottom of this. 17th May is just the day he also got murdered and that day many other people died whilst some officers were accused of murdering and went to jail. After checking up on detective Thompson they also saw a mark on his nape" he explained.
"Thompson's eyes were waterfall that night. He demanded justice several times while sitting in front of the police department. They didn't listen to him" he continues, "Ever since then his eyes turned from green to black, and as time passed on a crimson color started to form around his pupils. And that's when he was marked on the nape" he finally lets the marijuana off.
"Even until today, he still writes and sometimes stare at the sea with a pained expression and sometimes threw empty glass at the sea, yelling and shouting at no particular person. That's when people tried to send him to some mental hospital but they didn't really care for him so they let him off" he adds.
"That's it?" Naomi asks. He slowly nods.
"We'll be off then!" She holds my wrist.
We head to the empty hallways. The stairs were creaking with every footstep we made on it. Naomi didn't say anything, assuming I was shocked with everything going on right now. What if things were different? What if the 'X' Group never existed? Maybe no one, maybe not even me would've gotten involved in this mess.
Maybe I wouldn't be here today?
"We need to get Thompson's trust, or his book" I declare. Naomi stops in her track for a few moments before nodding silently in agreement then continuing to walk.
"I'll just take you back to the beach, okay? I have something to do somewhere" she adds as we walk back the familiar path.
We make it back to the beach. She says her goodbyes and left. I watch as her footsteps sound go faint the more she walks away. Today was such a energy consuming one. First I check out some weird evidence Naomi got and meet some crazy guy that gave me some unbelievable things to believe.
Shit.
Thompson is sitting on the sands, staring at me.
