Diagon Alley Part 2

After getting the uniform, Ms. Bones led Jordan to Flourish and Blotts to purchase all of their textbooks. As they entered the building, Jordan could see a bunch of shelves with labels ranging from dragons to magical cooking. Each shelf was stacked to the ceiling. There was a whole section dedicated to invisibility, even though only one book was visible. After searching throughout the bookstore for the necessary books (A History of Magic was almost out of stock), they quickly bought some parchment, ink, and quills. Jordan found a nice deal for a set of scales which were 30% off. The apothecary was a bit crowded, since a lot of students had to pick up potion supplies. They quickly went through the list of school supplies, all except for...

"How about I'll go buy some ice cream from Macmillan's, and I'll meet you after you go buy your wand at Ollivanders." Jordan peered cautiously at the small shop. It looked very old and dusty, with the sides lined up with thousands of boxes. They cautiously stepped in, but no one was there. They wondered if they entered the right store. Suddenly an old man with white hair and curious eyes popped up from behind the counter.

"A muggle-born, I see." He then muttered to himself while searching through the boxes in the back. He brought three boxes to the front.

"Ok, which is your wand arm... erm..."

"Jordan"

"Right, ok, Jordan which is your wand arm?"

"Well, I use my right hand," Jordan stated.

"Please hold out your arm." Mr. Ollivander took some measurement, and while doing so, he explained multiple things, like the different cores used, and how the wand chose the wizard. It all seemed very peculiar to Jordan. The tape measurer stopped and moved back to the counter by itself.

Mr. Ollivander then handed a wand. He looked at Jordan expectantly while they waved it a little. Nothing happened. He snatched it and replaced it with another wand. Again, nothing happened. He went to the back to get more wands to try. Each time Jordan waved it, Mr. Ollivander just shook his head and replaced it. The pile of tried wands was just growing bigger. Jordan started to think that maybe they weren't suited to have a wand after all. Maybe this was just a mistake, and they would be sent back. Maybe Ms. Bones was wrong and they weren't magical at all. Jordan hoped this wasn't the case. They had just started to like this world. Mr. Ollivander thought for a bit, went to the back, and then came back with a single box.

"Perhaps this is the one. Silver lime and unicorn hair. 12 and quarter inches, bendy."

Jordan took it and did a quick wave, except this time, they felt a warmth in their fingers, and gold sparks shot out from the end of the wand.

"Silver lime wood. Prized by many. It has a reputation for some of the best Seers and those skilled in Legilimency."

"Excuse me," Jordan interrupted. "What is legilimency?"

"Legilimency is the ability to be able to see into other people's minds..."

When Jordan left the small shop, they felt accomplished. They finally got their own wand! They met up with Ms. Bones near Macmillan Ice Cream Parlor. She was standing there with a cheerful expression, and holding two cookie dough ice creams, both of which were starting to melt.

"So, which wand did you get, Jordan?" Ms. Bones asked politely.

"Silver lime wand with unicorn hair," Jordan started pouring out questions. "Is it an actual unicorn? Do unicorns actually exist? What about mermaids? Oh and fairies? Wait... do dragons exist? I mean if goblins and flying broomsticks exist... Can animals talk? Are there different animals that only wizards know of?..."

Ms. Bones could hardly hear Jordan. She quietly chuckled at their curiosity. She quickly explained as best she could about magical creatures, even though she wasn't the right teacher to do that (she was just the matron/head of house). Ms. Bones wanted to buy an owl for Jordan ("It's very popular, since they're dead useful and everything") but they protested since Jordan's mum was deathly afraid of birds. They still had an hour until they were supposed to head back. So Jordan wandered around under the watchful eye of Ms. Bones. They went up to a crowded shop called Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Inside, there were a bunch of girls cooing over bright little puffballs pygmy puffs. Some little child was crying because their mum refused to by a screaming yo-yo. They looked at some of the cool products, like Skiving Snackboxes, Extendable Ears, and Anti-Gravity Hats.

When Jordan got back to their house, they made sure to write down all that they saw during that day. Jordan flipped through their sketchbook, and opened to a new page. From their photographic memory, they started sketching the narrow alley, making sure to include all that they saw. Then, they started looking at everything they bought. Jordan was intrigued by the textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which described all sorts of animals which they had never even heard of. Jordan hoped that this whole world wasn't just a dream, because it was starting to become amazingly real...
